« Egyptian couples attend a collective wedding organized by an Islamic organization in Cairo.(Khaled Desouki/AFP/Getty Images) Young Egyptians Embrace Islam February 20, 2008 | From theTrumpet.comIslam is on the rise in Egypt. Egyptian youth are rapidly embracing Islamic fundamentalism. This is a major trend in the region, where 60 percent of the population is under the age of 25. According to a report in the New York Times: While there are few statistics tracking religious observance among the young, there is near-universal agreement that young people are propelling an Islamic revival, one that has been years in the making but is intensifying as the youth bulge in the population is peaking. In Egypt, where the people have always been religious and conservative, young people are now far more observant and strict in their interpretation of their faith. A generation ago, for example, few young women covered their heads, and few Egyptian men mad...

How Not to Impose Productivity Systems On Others Posted: 19 Feb 2008 07:30 AM CST My baby sister visited me this weekend and brought along a stack of homework that I thought was unbelievable: she?s a junior in high school and her task list had something for every class ? and projects in most of them. She keeps track of it in a planner that has such small spaces for recording appointments or tasks that I thought my eyes would fall out of my head from squinting so hard. So I did what any good big sister interested in productivity would do: I offered to set her up with something a little easier to use. Nothing fancy, of course: I was thinking of introducing her to Remember the Milk. I like RTM for a lot of reasons, although I know a lot of other people have their preferences ? the fact that I can use plugins to integrate RTM with both Google Calendar and GMail do a lot for my productivity. My sister?s response? An immediate no. She relies on paper, not some fancy online gizmo. She pr...

Spent wholde day at Lamro's since last nite. Nothing much happened today except we had n earthquakle 6.6 in the richter scale this afternoon, then it rained, then lackout for several hours. It seems like the doom day itself. Got a phone call from Vera, my former friend at the bank, telling me that I got a letter and I said you can take it. Yours. She said their team is doing great this month and all. Glad to hear her that happy yet don't wish to hear from the bank anymore. My heart and mind are full of things today, tried to write 'em down...Failed. I fell asleep yet took them with me. I listened to my friends conversation, laughed with them yet am falled apart, couldn't hide my feelings behind my smiles. The night has approached, am not willing to witness another day walk pass me by. The hands are shaking for the heart is hungry and the head is furious. Be with me, oh peace. Let me see more good people in my life. You dunno my name. NO, you don't.

« Jerusalem is a holy city to Jews, Muslims and Christians.(PT) Collection Reminds World of Catholic Focus on JerusalemFebruary 19, 2008 From theTrumpet.comAs the Jews and Muslims fight over Jerusalem, remember that the Vatican has a strong interest there as well.Supporting Catholics living in Israel is a priority for Catholics around the world, the prefect of the Congregation for Eastern Churches says. In the name of the pope, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri is calling for Catholics to donate money for Christians in Israel. In a letter sent to bishops around the world last week, Sandri asked the bishops to support the small group of Catholics in Israel by supporting the annual Good Friday collection. The Catholics who reside in the Holy Land, he said, are a priority for the entire Catholic Church. The Good Friday collection is an annual Catholic tradition, and the money taken largely goes to supporting Franciscan activities in Israel. ?In this way,? wrote the cardinal, ?the Latin community...

The Weekend Web February 17, 2008 | From theTrumpet.comWhat do Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Imad Mughniyeh have in common? Plus, why Iran needs nukes. By Stephen Flurry On Thursday, we arrived in Jerusalem for the sixth time in 18 months. The first of those visits, in August 2006, was memorable. While waiting on our connection to Tel Aviv at the Jackson-Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta, cnn reported that a cease-fire had been reached between Israel and Hezbollah. The Second Lebanon War was over. A little more than a month before that, on the morning of July 12, 2006, Hezbollah terrorists crossed into northern Israel and ambushed two armored Humvees on patrol in northern Israel, killing three idf soldiers and taking two others hostage. Immediately following the intelligence failure, an idf tank chased the kidnappers into Lebanon, only to trigger a huge mine, killing all four soldiers inside. Another soldier who tried to rescue his buddies from...

Malaysian billionaire tunes in to Virgin Radio From http://www.telegraph.co.ukA company backed by one of Asia's richest men will battle a trio of British rivals for control of Virgin Radio after emerging as a surprise bidder for the company.Ananda Krishnan, thought to be the third-wealthiest man in Southeast Asia, is understood to have tabled a bid for Virgin Radio through Astro All Asia Networks, Malaysia's largest media company. The four companies have lodged offers worth between £60m and £70m for Virgin Radio, which is valued at £85m on the books of its owner, the Scottish media company SMG. Vitruvian Partners, a private equity firm, was also in the running for the station but was knocked out after bids were submitted last week. The deadline for the next round of bids is in mid-March. It is the second time that SMG has put Virgin Radio up for sale, and bids are understood to be higher this time around. SMG had been under pressure to sell Virgin but completed a major ...

IT was Valentine day and most of you enjoyed it the most. I was so damn stupid left my ATM card in the machine and to my horror, the guy who was behind me at that time, has taken all the money that was left--my last saving after I quit from my job last January. Tons of thanks go to Al for rescuing me from the total bankruptcy. Wonder what I did on Valentine day? Nothing.Yet, I went to Lamro's farewel dinner for his lover in the evening.I gulped up three cans of Bintang beer with tons of kilos of regrets for being so damn careless donating someone my last saving. I expected to have a light headache or a total drunkardness. But I went home fully conscious, not even a headache or an urge to throw up. The next day I met Lamro, I realized I only drank a-zero-percent-alcohol beer.Jesus, do you even call that Beer?!! Anyway, I was just feeling sad and low and acted silly. Never been drank before, just like never had sex before. Ah...it's raining outside. And am starving. but I feel good ...

How can you make your employees (and by extension you r company) more productive and more innovative ? instead of struggling to maintain the status quo? These are the questions that Michael Lee Stallard sets out to answer in his book Fired Up or Burned Out: How to Reignite Your Team?s Passion, Creativity, and Productivity (Thomas Nelson, Inc. 2007; with Carolyn Dewing-Hommes and Jason Pankau). Stallard and his partners are the founders of E Pluribus Partners, a think tank and consulting firm focused on helping companies build connection among their employees and with their customers and clients. In Fired Up, they explain why such a sense of connection is important, and how to create it, offering good advice that would be as useful for small businesses and n...

The Week in ReviewFebruary 16, 2008 From theTrumpet.comA car bomb explodes in Damascus, Kosovo edges closer to independence, the Kremlin threatens Ukraine, and the Australian prime minister makes a farcical apology.Middle EastThe security situation in Pakistan is tenuous ahead of next week?s parliamentary elections, with terrorist bombings continuing to occur. In addition, a little-reported public rally may indicate the future fracturing of Pakistan?s army. Former Pakistani army generals, navy admirals and air force marshals staged a rally in Rawalpindi on February 5, calling for Pervez Musharraf to resign as president of Pakistan. It was a follow-up to an Ex-Servicemen Society meeting held on January 22 at which retired military officials produced a four-point resolution that blamed Musharraf for Pakistan?s continuing turmoil and called for his resignation. A protest by retired military leaders is a good indication that there may be significant differences of opinion among militar...

50 Tricks to Get Things Done Faster, Better, and More Easily Posted: 13 Feb 2008 08:00 AM CST We all want to get stuff done, whether it?s the work we have to do so we can get on with what we want to do, or indeed, the projects we feel are our purpose in life. To that end, here?s a collection of 50 hacks, tips, tricks, and mnemonic devices I?ve collected that can help you work better. Most Important Tasks (MITs): At the start of each day (or the night before) highlight the three or four most important things you have to do in the coming day. Do them first. If you get nothing else accomplished aside from your MITs, you?ve still had a pretty productive day. Big Rocks: The big projects you?re working on at any given moment. Set aside time every day or week to move your big rocks forward. Inbox Zero: Decide what to do with every email you get, the moment you read it. If there?s something you need to do, either do it or add it to your todo list and delete or file the email. If i...

Germany vs. NATO: Playing Hard to Get February 14, 2008 | From theTrumpet.comAs NATO struggles to gain support in Afghanistan, Germany seeks control. By Ron Fraser The 44th annual Munich Security Conference wrapped up two days of intense discussion last weekend with seemingly no major issues resolved. A significant source of tension and division between nato partners at the meeting centered round the general lack of positive response from EU countries to a U.S. call for more support in the Afghan theater. More than a hint of major division between nato members had already arisen during the meeting of nato defense ministers held in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, only days prior to the Munich Security Conference. Both these meetings precede and lay the groundwork for the three-day nato summit to be held in Bucharest 2nd to 4th of April. Till fairly recently the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan had faded into the background due to its being greatly overs...

Weeks passed, nothing much happened. Well, being healthy and all is enuff, eh?One of my minus behaviors I hate is Hating someone for some reason. This applies to anyone without any exception. This time I'm trying to fix my irresistible annoyance toward two people I practically meet on a daily or even hourly basis--at the house. There are limits as to how far you can put up with someone's inner monster self, or let's just say, weakness, emotionally. They truly pissed me off this time and that's it. « Drought and immigration place increasing demands on the Rio Grande.(Hector Mata/AFP/Getty Images) Border Water Shortage Causes Conflict February 12, 2008 | From theTrumpet.comThe Texas-Mexico dispute over the Rio Grande?s water continues. What is the cause of this world?s water crises? ?Whiskey is for drinking and water is for fighting over,? an old western saying goes. At least the last half of that statement is holding true as 40-plus Texan farmers, ranchers, and irrigation district officials ready themselves to take their incessant water war with Mexico to the next level. The roots of the Texas-Mexican water dispute go back to the 1944 Mexican Water Treaty, which determined how water from the Colorado, Tijuana and Rio Grande drainage basins would be divided between Texas and Mexico. Article 4 of the treaty stipulates that one third of the water reaching the Rio Grande from the Conchos, San Diego, San Rodrigo, Escondido, Las Vacas Arroyo a...

Increase Productivity and Relieve Pain with the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard Posted: 12 Feb 2008 07:30 AM CST If you have been looking for a way to increase your productivity without having to train your mind to think or behave in a completely new way, then many will point you to the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard. Well, they?re wrong, as I discovered; the time and effort to re-train your mind is quite extensive, but the time spent is worthwhile! If you?re prepared to make some sacrifices - or rather, put up with some inconvenience - Dvorak can certainly save you some medical bills and some time. The History of the Dvorak Layout In the 1860s, Mr. Christopher Sholes developed the first commercially successful typewriter. When it came to the keyboard layout, he researched the most efficient key patterns. Unfortunately, when it came time to type on this layout, at any decent speed the machine would jam up - the key mechanisms would get in a tangle. To get around the mechanical limitations...

The increasingly weak U.S. dollar, once considered the king among currencies, has brought waves of European tourists to New York with money to burn and looking to take advantage of hugely favorable exchange rates. ?We didn?t realize we would take so much in and there were that many people traveling or having euros to...

Iran hopes the launch of Explorer-1 will enable its first satellite launch later this year.
