Worst. Diaper. Ever.
2008-04-29 03:29:00
The poop filled her diaper. It overflowed up and down her pants. I removed the diaper - a pull up, of course - and she stepped in it, thus taking out her socks. She sat on my lap, getting my pants. Her shirt got stuck to her back, and it got ...

Back Surgery Update
2008-04-29 03:02:00
Brian has made it home and is doing fine. Today was his first visit with the local rehab facility which agreed that he was being handled very conservatively by the hospital rehab and that he can be pushed a little more; he spent most of the afternoon asleep after said pushing. He will ...

One Small Step for Potty?
2008-04-28 04:00:00
F peed in the potty today. She tugged at her diaper and announced “poo poo”, sat on the potty while her father read “Once Upon a Potty” to her several times, and peed!

What Can I Say, the Boy Has Taste
2008-04-27 19:08:00
This morning J took this godawful CD that sings these dreadful songs and inserts F’s name everywhere via multi-track editing out of the stereo and replaced it with a Duke Ellington CD.

Sheep and Wool Festival
2008-04-26 22:07:00
We went to a sheep and wool festival today where the kids pet sheep and even a bunny. We didn’t touch the alpacas because they were making that cooing noise that means “unhappy alpaca.” I resisted the urge to buy more wool and am trying to figure out when I can find time ...

2008-04-23 20:17:00
Brian had his post-operative check up today and is doing well. They plan to send him home on Friday. He is walking well, can climb stairs and has had his pain medication reduced. He will go be going back to the doctor’s office next Tuesday for another post-operative check-up. Thank you everyone who ...

The Naturopathy Dance
2008-04-22 00:09:00
It’s funny how resistant people are to the idea I’m using naturopathy to diagnose and treat F’s issues. More than one person has shared that muscle resistance testing is obviously just the placebo effect, which is, I think, their nice way of saying “laden with quackery.” I would note that F obviously has food sensitivities. ...

Testing. Testing. 1, 2, 3? testing.
2008-04-21 04:20:00
Tonight while playing in the bath F took it into her wee head to pour water out of the bath onto the floor. Because I am a mean, narrow-minded thinking-inside-the-box kind of person that was not OK with me. Bath water stays in the bath tub. I know. I know. I’m ...

Overwhelmed
2008-04-20 03:52:00
Right now I have a husband in rehab on major medication and I have to spend 3 hours every day in the car in order to see him. Meanwhile I have made major life sacrifices to be a stay at home parent and now I hardly ever see my children. Both of ...

Life in Rehab (Back Surgery Update)
2008-04-18 23:17:00
Brian is doing very well. He got to take a shower yesterday; it was the first one in a week so he was pretty happy about that. He has a funky toy to put his socks on, a back brace that looks like a corset and a nifty grabber. I’m planning on ...

Brian Moved to Rehab
2008-04-17 02:45:00
Brian has been moved to rehab. He is at the Van Munching Rehab ilitation Center at Stamford Hospital. It is still 90 minutes away. Sigh. He has a follow up appointment with the surgeon on the 22nd and I hope they’ll send him home then. This driving thing is not the ...

I?m a Food Sensitivity Follower
2008-04-17 02:20:00
F has been a real over-achiever in the diaper rash area. I don’t want to brag here but my kid can manifest a diaper rash simply on contact. Some kids need to sit in their own waste for a while but mine gets right on it and rashes herself right up. Throw ...

What Makes This Hard
2008-04-15 18:31:00

2008-04-15 17:06:00

More Tales of Twin Love
2008-04-11 19:20:00
My mother has the kids all day today while I am at the hospital. On the way up to nap J apparently slipped on the steps and started to cry. When they got up to the bedroom F pointed to the Rescue Remedy (a homeopathic calming thingy) and said “Owie! Owie! Owie!” to ...

?I did it!?
2008-04-11 01:56:00
F is speaking in sentences now. Today she said, “I see a ball” and “I did it.” Her vocabulary is just exploding and her understandable words now include zipper, circle, hat, cow, kitty, Mama, Daddy, pop (as in “Pop goes the weasel”) and I can’t even be sure how many more.

Bits of Randomness
2008-04-08 15:28:00
F is getting very talky. Last night she said “circle”. Most of the time I can’t understand her but when she repeats words back to me or context makes it obvious I realize that she is talking English with a very heavy baby accent but English nonetheless. One poop forward and two poops back ...
