i fell into radio broadcasting by accident, and it was all because of irma.a glib comment to my then newly-acquainted "hot mummer" friend about being mentioned once on the radio, for which she volunteers, back when i was in high school inevitably saw me joining her in the radio booth about to embark on my first ever broadcasting stint. it was a nerve-wracking experience which saw my voice crack several times on air and my face remaining the colour of fuschia for the whole show. but boy, it was heaps of fun.more than a year later, and i'm still having an absolute blast, and still getting those flutters in the stomach just before air-time. my voice doesn't crack anymore, though. if anything, i probably talk too much.below is my latest article in the philippine times newspaper, which profiles the sunday program, pinoy kampus radio, and the broadcasters that make up the show.The Bungisngisan Hour:Giggles with the Pinoy Kampus Radio CrewRyan PerdioIt takes a certain kind of individual ...

i can't seem to play the sleep deprivation game very well anymore. i just don't bounce back as well as i used to. it's now monday night and i'm still recovering from a very long weekend.why is it that you actually feel fine waking up from only four hours sleep but a hell of a lot worse when you've had the proper eight-hour stretch the night afterwards? i felt like a truck had run me over when i woke up this morning.my friends keep saying it's because i'm getting old. mind you, they're actually much older than i am. in their 40s. ancient.but i guess there are some truths in what they say. i am closer to thirty than twenty. in fact, i'm closer to being thirty than being twenty-five! i find that somewhat scary.drinksit all happened on saturday when i had to get up very early to go to work's long-overdue first aid training refresher.8am. never mind saving someone's life. get me coffee, stat.training then turned to real work and before i knew it, twelve hours have passed. over...

last night, braving the chilly weather and with my mum in tow, i headed into town to attend a promotional event being run in association with the radio station i broadcast for.sitti navarro, a relatively unknown (at least locally) female artist from the philippines, crossed the eight hour divide to entertain the masses with her bossa nova stylings. the mid-20s beauty was delightfully entertaining and engaging as she sang her way through a gamut of cool-as-jazz standards and hot-and-wild samba tunes. her style of music, new to my ears, was well received by a crowd usually deprived of such delights. so inclusive was her appeal that the age of the punters spanned from the bagets (the young'ns) to the forgets (the young at hearts). the latter, though, outnumbering the former by a big margin.before the start of the evening entertainment, during the more-than-usually loud pre-event mingling and shoulder rubbing, my mum spotted a couple of familiar faces. standing near us were two acquain...
