the trouble with blogging
2006-12-23 09:21:01
this is something that fellow bloggers can appreciate.as word had spread about my blog amongst those i know personally, i've found that it has produced some of the most surprising outcomes. not all of this has been positive, mind. in fact, quite a few have been detrimental.i received a call from a seldom-heard-from friend the other day, crying foul that i had written about her. i was surprised that she even knew my site existed, let alone that she'd read it. for the record, the post is now more than several months old and only detailed the truth. that she is one of those "use-a-friendly" friend; only heard from occasionally and only if in need of something. obviously, changing the names to protect the guilty those involved didn't matter in this case. i guess the truth rings out regardless. and evidently, it hurts.she flatly accused yours truly of making up lies that allegedly perpetuates the myth that she is a user. the fact that the number of friends she has have gradually dwind...

so, here's something that you guys might not know. i'm actually really sick at the moment.in fact, i've been under the weather for the last week or so, but have somehow been able to hold it off. it was just a slight itch of the throat and the odd cough here and there. but after days of early morning starts, late nights, partying and over-indulgence, my body finally gave in two days ago. in fact, it struck during the start of the robbie williams concert. the one i've been much-anticipating. he was good and the concert was great, but suffice to say, halfway through the show, all i wanted to do was to be back sleeping in my bed.now, i'm stuck at home nursing a really sore throat, an aching body, a slight fever, a pounding migraine and to top it all off, a blooming cold sore all over my lips. see, even when sick, i don't do things by halves.understandably, i'm not getting much sympathy from those around me. and who could blame them. even i wouldn't feel sorry for myself consider...

r*yan's holiday gift ideas
2006-12-19 03:16:02
speaking of which, how's your christmas shopping going?with a week left, the pre-christmas rush is definitely in its full steam. at the shops the other day, i witnessed two women fight it over for the last must-have toy on the shelf and had to be escorted out by security. its hell out there.i've actually done more of my gift-buying online this year, which has worked out a real treat. check out the following websites for some truly unique gift ideas:for the naughty boyslike shoes, boys (especially gay boys) can never have enough tees, particularly if said tees carry some of the funkiest prints seen.vilain garçon is a new french clothing brand capturing the european essence of sexy attitude and sassiness.it's just perfect for the hot aussie summer, as they're sure to make wearers stand out as seriously "naughty boy" fashionistas.and until their new collection is ready to impress in february 2007, the folks over at vilain garçon are having a xmas special on all their current stock....

interesting feedback received by the philippine times editor in response to my october article, queer with folks:Dear Edit or - On reading the opinion article "Queer with folks" by your writer Ryan Perdio (October 06) I felt driven to respond. It is widely understood that there has been a major transformation in modern society in the acceptance or not of a range of morals, values, ethics - whatever we like to call them. When I was a youngster, they may not have always been clearly understood and, like Ryan, some had a negative impact on me. Later as I matured, I was able to grasp and appreciate their real purpose and meaning. Among the great myths of modern times is the myth that homosexuality is inherited, i.e. one is born with it. This has been the constant lie pushed by the powerful homosexual lobby which has had astounding success in influencing both governments and society to gradually see it as an acceptable lifestyle. (I don't use the word 'gay' because that means 'joyful...

hot ticket: kylie's amazing homecoming
2006-12-13 03:12:05
kylie opened the second night of her much-anticipated "homecoming tour" with a fitting song, her classic defining anthem "better the devil you know", that set the scene for a dazzling show.the twelve-thousand strong crowd spent almost the whole evening on their feet as they danced their way through some of kylie's stand-out hits such as "on a night like this", "hand on your heart", "spinning around" and "love at first sight".the two-hour plus extravaganza was broken into two parts with a 20-minute interval to allow the pop princess some needed recharge time. the whole show was extremely well executed with the choreography, lights, sound and stage productions all making for one unbelievable show. musical numbers were grouped into separate often-saucy themes, like the sexed-up cabaret jazz rendition of "locomotion" that came complete with male and female dancers all equally dressed in some seriously raunchy black lingerie. or the ancient greek-style-inspired piece where kylie stood a...

cafe chinotto: crappiest.cafe.ever.
2006-12-13 03:12:05
i'd like to think that i'm a reasonable diner especially since i have spent enough time and a fair amount of money - enough to burn a sizeable hole in my pocket - to experience a cross-section of melbourne's plentiful restaurant and cafes. i'm patient, considerate to wait staff, order accordingly and tip as it warrants. but never in all this time have i experienced such blatantly shoddy service from an eatery as i did last nite. it almost marred the beginning of what turned out to be a really good kylie concert evening.avoid "cafe chinotto" like the plague.located in melbourne's fed square, it was the scene of our stunted dining experience where ineptitude was the order of the day.it was a bad sign when we had to endure being ignored by the wait staff for more than 15 minutes before our orders were taken.and how long do you think it a reasonable length of time to wait for a meal of four consisting only of salad, canneloni, risotto and chips?according to this place, more than ha...

weekend randoms or how the heat really sucked and made sleep
2006-12-12 03:11:02
it's been a funny sorta weekend.melbourne sweltered as temperatures reached over 40 degress, made worse by the thick smog that hung for the most of saturday. there are bushfires burning in the eastern part of the state and the ensuing smoke blanketed most of the metropolitan area. apparently, this has been one of the worst ever with scattered outbreaks almost joining up into one "super fire" that stretched from the ski fields almost right down to the coast. melbourne is currently in the grips of a very bad drought and the summer season, which looks set to be the hottest to come in a while, has only started. things are definitely going to sizzle down here.i spent most of saturday with nick, who stayed the night over. he joined us for a friday night drinking session at a friend's house where jager bombs were de rigeur. i swear that stuff really can't be all that good for you. never mind the alcohol, it's the guarana that i'm concerned about. between four drinkers, we went through...

washing cars
2006-12-07 15:05:09
i hate washing cars. i'd rather mow the lawn, which says a lot since i hate doing that too. truly, i'd make for a bad butch lesbian.yesterday, i was tasked to clean mine since it's due to be returned to the dealership tomorrow. i actually lease and every year i must swap the current ride for a new one. it's part of the agreement and really, it's a great setup. for one, it's affordable (i don't have to pay for insurance nor registration), it's also practical (i can drive it as much as i want to and not need to worry about depreciating value nor serviceability), and, of course, there's the novelty factor (that new car smell).but the main drawback to the whole setup is that it feeds into my tendency of not giving a rat's arse about keeping the damn thing clean. after all, technically it's not really mine. but don't misunderstand. i'm as anally rententive about keeping the inside spotless. none of this receipts and discarded wrappers on the floor laziness. i hate that as mu...

i love starbucks coffee.i know, call me crazy. but since discovering it a couple of years ago, i've never been able to go pass a skinny caramel macchiato, especially when it's a venti. and my addiction has gotten worse since a starbucks has opened in my area. it's literally five minutes away. now, i'm there at least three days a week.for those unfamiliar with how the ordering process works in starbucks, it goes something like this: you order your drink, they write your name on the cup, and when your drink is ready, they call out your name for you to pick up. i've never felt comfortable about giving my name out every time the barista asks for it. i feel uneasy with having it announced loudly to a group of strangers.this feeling was justified one time when at a packed city store my name was called out loudly several times by an over-zealous barista. i think even the shops across the busy road heard it. after i went to pick up my coffee, i was approached by an older gentleman who ...

the 'what if?' game
2006-12-06 03:04:13
another hectic weekend, though unintentional. really, i was planning on having a quiet one considering the craziness of the previous.on friday night, a bunch of us ended up at the peel, a gay venue in the suburb of collingwood. it was boys only night, which in spite of the suggestive salaciousness of the event, have from previous experiences often failed to live up to expectation. last friday was no different. somewhat disappointing, though it did prove particularly interesting.i saw my uncle there. and his partner. nothing out of the ordinary. after all, it's not a secret that this uncle is gay. it's actually common knowledge. no, what makes the whole thing of interest is the partner. a guy i dated the year before. yes, dated. in fact, our history together goes back even further. he was the president of the youth group i was a member of during my late teens. it was only by chance that we caught up again last year. our dating days were short. he was after a long-term relationship....

blogging gives millions of people the ability to publish their own words online, which is a fantastic thing, but there is still something uniquely special about seeing one's name and work in print, on paper. my blog bud, steven of steven from melbourne, is a freelance writer who has recently started writing for dna magazine, the world's fave gay glossy, and sydney's own gay rag, sx national. in fact, you can check out steven's premier sx article below on "booty calls" (and see if you can spot my little contribution):(click on the above picture so you can actually read it - don't worry, it'll launch a new window) for the last couple of months now, i've been a volunteer writer for the philippine times, a nationally circulated newspaper for the filipino community in australia.my inaugural article, published last october, is a reworked version of an earlier post and is titled "queer with folks", detailing my relationship with my parents and their ensuing reaction to my coming out...

ladies and gentlemen, let's get this party started!
2006-12-02 15:00:09
despite getting only four and half hours sleep, i woke up feeling absolutely fantastic. in fact, i felt like a million bucks.my first client for the day looked at me rather apprehensively and wondered whether i'd already had a caffeine hit. understandably, she was a little worried to see me so buzzed up at 5.30 in the morning, wide eyed and jittery. i hadn't yet had my morning brew nor my breakfast. just some extra spring to the day's steps.i feel excitement kicking in and a sense of optimism and renewal. it's an upswing turn from all the dramas of the past two weeks. maybe because today marks the start of my four-day birthday weekend celebrations that i am in such a great mood.in the last few years, i've come to recognise that when it comes to birthdays, there are three types of people. there are those who dread it every year, there are the ones who completely ignore it, and then there are those who celebrate it with gusto. i've always been the latter.as early as i can rememb...

so, officially the birthday has been over for a couple of days, but don't bother telling that to my poor confused brain...or my exhausted body, for that matter!i didn't think it was possible, but i am, in fact, dined-out, drinked-out, danced-out and really, just plain ol' partied-out. but boy, it sure has been alot of fun.with plenty of other pre- and post-birthday events, the celebration on the actual day on saturday was just insane.taking leave of work for the weekend, i was able to catch up on some needed rest and sleep in on saturday morning. was a smart thing to do in hindsight, considering what a crazy night it proved to be. our dinner in the city was cancelled after friends dropped by brimming with presents that included a bottle of jagermeister (herb liquor - 35 per cent alcohol) and a dozen cans of red bull. i hadn't had it before but i think i made up my quota of jagerbombs after downing three in ten minutes. we finished the bottle within the next thirty. another hour ...
