2006-12-02 15:00:09 this time last year, i was madly getting ready for an overseas trip back to the philippines. how the days have flown!it was five-weeks worth of holiday bliss: some island-hopping, asian-style retail therapy and plenty of drinking, eating and partying. i loved it so much that immediately after returning home, i vowed to go back and live there for at least six months. that didn't happen this year.the travel bug doesn't infect for very long or often, for that matter. in fact, aside from a couple of other asian countries, i've never really been anywhere else but the philippines, my birth country, and australia, where i reside. even then, i haven't toured much of this country, either. i'm not that well-travelled.a friend of mine has recently returned from her second month-long trip overseas in as many years. last year, she toured china and hong-kong. this year, she went to philippines and did plenty of adventurous backpacking-style activities. and she did all this on her own.my frie... 2006-12-02 15:00:09 nick finished his final exam for the year and so we met up today for a post-exam celebratory get-together. dinner and movies were on the cards.the meal turned out to be relatively low-key - we ate at mcdonalds. it was different to what we would normally do. we often sample the many eateries that are located in and around the city. the change was nice.the movie we went to see was john cameron mitchell's "shortbus". set in new york city, the story revolves around several characters as they explore their individual sexuality and relationships. i liked it. many people have made comments about the film's many explicit scenes of non-simulated (ie. real) sex (it didn't bother me at all, which might actually say quite a lot about my level of exposure to porn), but if you can get beyond the often confronting graphic images, there is the heart and essence of the film that speaks plainly of the connections people have - and yearn for - with each other and with themselves. it made me think a...
