that is, my dog and i could. i find myself perched upon the horns of an uncomfortable dilemma where she's concerned. no, make that a "heartbreaking" dilemma. i can be frank about this. i think most of you have had the experience of soul-bonding with an animal. you know what a unique experience it is. if you've managed to stay with that animal to the end of its life, you'll also empathize with pain inherent in the dilemma i mentioned, above. my long-time, mostly-lab eleven-year old puppy soulmate is nearing the end of her life, and she needs more help than i find myself capable of giving her. the immediate cause of her decline is a degenerative spine disorder that's... warping... the vertebrae in her lumbar spine. as the vertebrae deform, they're pinching off the nerve trunks that emerge between them, causing the wasting debilitation of her back end. as little as three years ago, she was jumping the surf on the beach to retrieve sticks. now her back legs don't want to support ...
