Our Army Need This Weapon
2008-01-08 08:27:00
This is a weapon that can give an extra edge over the enemy when it comes to Urban fighting. This weapon can see around the corners, a good feature which might save your face from blowing off. The Corner Shot consists of a segmented, assault rifle-type which could be folded, onto which is attached a pistol of choice and a compact, detachable color video camera. Our army is planing to capture vanni soon(rebel strong hole town), this weapon could be a perfect tool to neutralize the enemy hiding inside structures.Amos Golan, the inventor, one of Corner Shot's founders and a former Anti-Terror Unit Commander, said: "I believe that the Corner Shot weapon system can be extremely beneficial in the global war on terror. It protects soldiers' lives and increases their chances of survival, while drastically improving their ability to gather information and transmit the combat scenario as well as pinpoint and engage targets out of their line of sight." He added: "Today's combat situa...

Why open source Sucks!
2008-01-05 09:11:00
Have you ever realized how much development occurred because of commercial software companies? Development of software industry, internet market, game industry, virtual worlds, movies all these things are because of commercial software industry, not because of open source. Is open source going to be the future of the computer industry? I don’t think so; even if it does it wouldn’t be a bright future.I believe that there should be a balance between Open Source and Commercial Softwares. I personally believe in a future where people can buy softwares close to the price of books. There are some people who talk highly about open source; most of them hate commercial software and the wealth they have massed from it. They consider themselves as Gods and they all want to crush the evil Microsoft. Anyone who utters a word against OSS is regarded as supporter of evil; most of them don’t even have the courage of saying “Vista is Superb”. But they all have windows installed in their m...

Hunted House Unhunted!
2008-01-02 05:14:00
This beautiful 4 store building in China was very famous for scaring away its owners. They claimed that they heard horribly spooky sounds at night in different parts of the house. The house has been passed to more than 4 owners for the past 10 years. It used to be valued at about $34,000, but with the haunting incidents value dropped and two brothers paid $6,500 and bought it. Even they heard the strange sounds but they refused to accept that it was coming from ghosts. So every night they searched the whole house looking for the source of the sounds. Finally, after many nights of searching, they figured out the noise sounded like something flapping in the water and it came from the bathroom pipe on the first floor. So they decide to break it open, this is what they have found. About 10 huge catfish were found swimming in the sewer. How did they end up there? The first owner of the house was a catfish lover, one day he bought some catfish and left them in the bath room, tow of them e...

Living Raptor
2007-12-27 18:21:00
If I was in the team which design the movie Jurassic park, I would have definitely used this creature as a model to design the Velociraptors (Raptor s).I took this picture in Kandy, near a farm in Digana area, many thanks to my friend Ruchira for showing me this guy.Look at its vivid skin, golden scales placed just like a knights amour on top, velvet like skin underneath,if you zoom in to its brown eyes it will make you shiver (thanks to my new 18X Panasonic camera) .Look at its ear and the pattern of the perfectly placed scales, truly Jurassic isn't it, fascinating too. This creature has a bad reputation in Srilanka, not for its viciousness but as a result of a myth. It says that if bitten by one the only cure is to find sand from the seas and stars from the skies. Unfortunately,It never bites, so the myth continued to exist for centuries. I have never seen the beauty of this creature until now, maybe because of the same reason of believing the myth when I was a kid. By the way this...

Back To Childhood
2007-12-24 18:13:00
Finally I could capture this beautiful place in my camera, this is one of the place I grew up, one of my adventure spots, a place made my child hood so beautiful.only known by the locals near Gampola area. When I was a small kid I used to swim in this river, longest river in Sri Lanka called mahaveli. My parents used to punish us for going to swim in this treacherous waters. It didn't stop us , because we loved adventure and the beauty of the place. Some times we walked along the small canal parallel to the river until we reach the starting point of the canal. As you see in the picture its a breath taking place, the river flaws across wast swath of stones creating many waterfalls and natural swimming pools. Once we took a large vehicle tube filled with air and did some improvised rafting session, it was brilliant. Some places are really dangerous, specially the deep holes created in the stones by millions of years of continuous grinding by sand, some are even inter connected. The plac...

Emptiness
2007-12-22 19:27:00
Emptiness, The story below might give you a very good idea about the emptiness around you. We live in a world that thrive on materialism. According to Buddhism the whole universe is in constant change, from galaxies, planets, moons to the smallest atom.It was happening for the past billions of years and it will happen until the eternity. Only thing we can be sure about the future is that we are going to die, every day is one step towards death, what do we have? Only this moment as a reality to be happy, to enjoy, to love. Are we using the only moment we have? Is there any thing permanent? not at all, our body and mind changes from moment to moment, its impossible to identify a permanent self called you and me. Its just like a river, constant change of water which makes an illusion of a river. enjoy the story."There was once a man who swept roads for a living. One morning he was sitting down with a friend and said 'You know I've had this broom for 17 years, this broom is m...
4D Movies,Live Sharks & 3D memories in Singapore
2007-12-16 13:06:00
Before writing anything about Sri Lanka, I think I should write some thing about the experience I had in Singapore . I only had 3 days to explore Singapore, not much when you are traveling with a wife keen on shopping. The first thing I noticed about Singapore was that its orderliness and planning. Everything in the city, from air port to the furthest tourist’s attraction is clearly marked. After hectic shopping in little India & China town in the first day I convinced my wife to visit Sentosa Island. The Island is made to have fun. We decided to visit the island using a cable car which flies over the buildings and the harbor, it was a unique experience. There was a movie called a 4D Movie. The difference between 3D and a 4D movie is that the viewers can actually feel the environment effects in the movie apart from making the movie three dimensional, for an example when the birds started flying around my head I could actually feel the wind striking on my face, a guy was thrown ...

Liquid Drops Can Go Up Hill
2007-12-10 14:10:00
Sometimes if you think out of the box you can do things that were impossible in nature, like making a droplet of a liquid climb up a surface, the trick could be performed if you vibrate the surface 30 to 200 times a second depending on the liquid type.Mathmatician Jens Eggers from Bristol University explains it like this:"As the shaking plate rises the drop is compressed, while it bulges upward as the plate falls. If the shaking is vigorous enough to overcome the surface tension experienced as the drop is compressed, the drop will tend to lean forward, producing a net force which drives the drop uphill."

It's Time To Leave
2007-12-02 05:28:00
I still remember the day I land on Seychelles, just married, starting a new life, on entirely different country. I was nervous at first, and then when I got off from the plane which landed on Mahe, the big island on the picture near the horizon, I was delighted, just because of the beauty of nature. A mountains near the sea, it was a whole new scenario for me. From that day all I wanted to do was to climb those mountains and visit the islands. The smallest island in the middle is called “round island”, claims to have a hidden treasure. The island next to it is called Long Island; it was the state prison until recently. “St Ann” the big Island on the bottom right, and lovely beaches on Surf Island stand near the Long Island”. I visited all of those islands and had a wonderful time in Seychelles, but its time to leave now. I may never return back, but this beautiful place, unmarked dot on the world map, changed my life for ever. I will always remember the adventures, like in...

Missing Karate
2007-11-28 10:59:00
I have decided to come back to Sri Lanka soon. It’s been a nice experience here in Seychelles, for its uniqueness, calmness and natural beauty. I’ll be missing many things, like beaches, misty mountains, forests and specially my karate lessons. One of the best things happen to me here was being able to learn some karate, its sad to leave those guys in the club; we had some kid of strange bond with each other. Maybe it’s the respect, control & the friendliness we have shown to each other. Sometimes we get beaten so badly, but we never have any hard feeling with each other. We always admired those who fight well and try to learn from them. I have been badly beaten few times too, never felt angry, no revenge, only the desire to be better. It’s kind of a strange feeling when you get to know your strengths. Some one might look at me & think that I’m a harmless skinny guy with big ears, he could be right in the big ear part, but I’m more dangerous than I look (doesn...

V-22 Osprey, a sucess ?
2007-11-25 07:12:00
This is not an image from a science fiction movie, its the Americas latest model of aircraft that sent in to the battlegrounds in Iraq. This machine is a combination of a helicopter and a plane, could cost $119 million per copy. It can take off and land like a helicopter with the ability to fly like a plane . Sounds impressive isn't it? but this plane took 25 year to develop and killed around 30 test pilots. The Pentagon has put $20 billion into the Osprey and expects to spend an additional $35 billion before the program is finished.Thats not it, the machine is still dangerous and risky, specially in Iraq experts say. The V22 lacks auto rotating technique which helps helicopters to land safely if engine fails. It lacks forward mounting machine gun, and claims to have faulty chips and software glitches. Experts warns that many of these machines would fail in Iraq, lets keep an eye on the news. What a way to waste money.Click here to see the Flight risk of Osprey. Read the complete ...

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
2007-11-18 21:10:00
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is the most famous book in the universe. Ford Perfect is a field correspondent of the guide who unfortunately got abandoned in the planet earth for 15 years. Arthur Dent, his friend, was lying in front of a bulldozer that was about to destroy his house to make a bypass not knowing that Earth is going to be destroyed that day. Ford saves his life just before the destruction of earth and finds out that universe is totally different from what he thought. He gets exposed to deadly Vagon poetry, Pan-Galactic Gargleblasters and 29 seconds of vacuum before rescued by the President of the Galaxy who stole the newly invented space ship with an infinity drive. He is surprised to find out that the answer to the ultimate question “why we are here?” is 42. He gets furious when he finds out that the guides entry on earth is a single word “Harmless”, later updated by Ford after 15 year of stay to “Mostly Harmless”. .Based on a radio series in BBC, ...
Walking Across Mahe
2007-11-15 15:18:00
The day that I leave Seychelles is coming closer and desire to discover more of Seychelles is getting higher. I decided to take the path starting from Danzil and to the beach of Port Launay. The path was set across the Morne Seychelles national park, actually its a series of interconnected paths. I obtained some maps to decided which paths that we should take to get the best experience, obviously it was the longest path. There were 13 of us (some one said it was a bad number, but he was wrong) . We got on board a truck and set out for the starting point of our walk. The driver took the wrong turn and we asked instructions from some local boys. They show us the path and told us that the vehicle wont be able to climb up to the starting point. So we started climbing along the steep road towards the starting point of the trail, but we started noticing strange things, things like vehicles? Those boys were messing with us by saying that vehicles won't be able to climb the hill, local jo...

2007-11-13 18:25:00
Some of these pictures are truly amazing, photography is about being at the right place at the right moment, plus being able to identify that moment. The best photograph was Taken by Ben Osborne in Botswana, the picture of a bull elephant kicking and spraying mud in a water-hole.Russian Sergey Gorshkov's close-up of a brown bear won the Animal Portraits category of the competition. In my opinion this picture should have won the first place, maybe judges were fascinated by the artistic nature of the first picture.Canadian Paul Nicklen's aerial image of male narwhal whales feeding was the winning photo in the competition's Animals in their Environment category

Take the Pill, Live For Ever
2007-11-09 14:15:00
Scientist dream of inventing a medicine which could make you live for ever, or at least slowing down the aging process. It seems that the dream is going to be a reality in the near future. Researchers in Cambrige , Massachusetts, Sirtris Pharmaceuticals is testing such a pill in humans in clinical trial. Its designed to increase the life span of a humans by reducing the aging process. It will take years of tests and trials to know if the drug will ultimately permit people to live to over 100 years old. Its all started on a chemical that SRT501 is based on,called resveratrol. .Professor David Sinclair announced in 2003 that this naturally occurring compound extends the lifespan of yeast. Then they tested this on mice, it worked! This substance is known to be in Red wine (not another reason to drink) since its found in grape skin (instead, eat grapes ). If you think of absorbing resveratrol by drinking red wine you will have to drink huge amounts which is practically impossible. A...

Its Supercalifragilistic expialidocious !
2007-11-04 20:05:00
Have you ever came across this word? This could be one of the longest words in English . This word first became famous in a musical movie called Mary Poppins(1964).The song Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!"was Written by Robert B. Sherman for the Walt Disney movie, Mary Poppins. This one has a very interesting history behind it, thought of tracking it down a bit. First things first,How do we pronounce this word? easy, just like this ;-)su·per·cal·i·frag·i·lis·tic·ex ·pi·al·i·do·cious /ˌsupərˌkæləˌfrædʒəˌlɪstɪkˌ kspiˌælɪˈdoʊʃəs/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[soo-per-kal-uh-fraj-uh-lis- tik-ek-spee-al-i-doh-shuhs]Definition: a nonsense word meaning fantasticref-dictionary.comRoots of the word have been defined, as Richard Lederer writes in his book Crazy English as follows: super- "above," cali- "beauty," fragilistic- "delicate," expiali- "to atone," and docious- "educable," with the sum of these parts signifying roughly "Aton...
Watch Wikipedia & Flickr in real-time
2007-11-02 19:19:00
I found two websites which are really creative. Both of them are based on the same idea of allowing people to see what’s being added to Wikipedia and Flickr in real-time. It can also detect the location of the person did the edit. They have achieved this by detecting the IP address of the person who did the edit and showing its location on Google maps. I watched someone in Japan editing a document about Pakistan, and then someone else in UK was editing something about Superman, while another person in UK was editing something related to Irish Americans. You can watch it whole day; specially the Flickr version which shows different photos from different parts of the world as its being added. Just have a look by clicking on this two links.WikipediaVisionFlickrVision

In Search Of A Hidden Beach
2007-10-30 04:12:00
Last Sunday I decided to visit another beach in Seychelles called Anse Majore. It was a lovely morning, I packed water and food in to my bag . This beach is not easy to reach, its about 2 hours walk through the rocky jungle and the village. We started our walk through the village and came to the starting point of path through the jungles. We saw a huge rock spanning out to sea like a black velvet carpet. I decided to take some pictures, the rock was about 100 feets above the sea level. The sea was amazingly blue and clear, scenery was breath taking, then I saw some splashes, brownish objects disappeared in to the sea below me. It was a group of dolphins , there were three of them, this was the first time I saw dolphins in Seychelles, they were hunting for fish. We could observe huge groups of fishes running here and there like moving ink spots to escape from them. Then we set our journey towards the beach through the jungle, path was clear but dangerous. Some places were...

About This Cooking Thing
2007-10-28 04:01:00
My wife made a beautiful cake for a friend of mines birth day, well I'm not saying its the best in the world but this one needs some recognition. So I decided to post the picture in my blog :-) . She has this thing called patience to do this kind of stuff ( which I don't have). My wife is a very good cook, a natural cook. When you talk about cooking, its all patience and paying attention. Even if you have the best cook book at your hand, you won't be able to cook something tasty unless you love cooking. To me cooking is an art, like music, a gifted skill. Last time I thought of inspiring my wife by making some Dhal curry and end up adding some buriyani powder instead of curry powder. Even though I was unable to eat,My wife tried pretend that it was so tasty( Silly girl, she ate a lot to prove that) . Later she insisted that I should stick to cleaning the dishes . One reason that I don't like cooking is , after cooking it I loose the interest to eat it (even if I get it right).

Tomy Heli-Q Worlds Smallest Helicopter

This next-gen worlds smallest remote controlled helicopter will be available for sale next month for 30$. This beauty can stay up in air for 5 minutes after 20 minutes of charge. I like its bubble like look in the front, feels like buying one. If some one can improve the battery life, this could be used as a surveillance air craft, one day they will. Think about a swarm of these insect like crafts with artificial intelligence gathering data in the battle field.

Happiness is a State of mind
2007-10-24 21:16:00
There was a time that I was disturbed, helpless and depressed. I never liked to be with my girl friend or parents, in fact it made me angry and more depressed. I was turning myself away from the world to my own imaginative world. My mind was full of negative thoughts, and I got pissed off with my life. The things were getting worse everyday, mind was heavy , even started to get headaches from too much thinking. One day I thought about this situation, It should not continue, I must put a stopper to this before my mind drift far away from reality.I decided to practice some meditation (Mind fulness Of Breath),It was very simple, concentrate my mind on the natural movement of air through my respiratory system (nostrils, nose, lungs). Sounds easy, but very difficult to practice.Once you start doing this you'll realize how loose and uncontrolled your mind is .You might even ask yourself 'is it really mine?' But after sometime I realized that concentrating my mind is only the beginning ...

Scientist Claims Black People 'Less Intelligent'
2007-10-20 10:02:00
Nobel Prize winning scientist James Watson who discovered the structure of DNA made the controversial remarks in an interview in The Sunday Times. This was not based on genetics or scientific research, so he faced lots of criticisms for his remark.Being intelligent doesn't remove your fundamental beliefs after all.He said he was “inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa” because “all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours - whereas all the testing says not really.". He said he hoped that everyone was equal, but countered that “people who have to deal with black employees find this not true”.He expects that scientists would be able to find the genes responsible for differences of intelligence in human beings within a decade. Anyhow, its very bad for a scientist to talk like this without solid evidence.Later he publicly apologized for his remark, but it doesn't reduce the damage he has done.If they discover genes of inte...

Lets Office Online
2007-10-19 05:30:00
Web based office suits are becoming famous these days, I think this will be the future of computing, using web based applications. There are many advantages, like easy to access, no installation required and ease of use .These are the best web based office applications if you want to get rid of Microsoft office. Most of these applications are free and the interface is quite similar to MS Office .Zoho-Good application if you want something which exactly resembles Microsoft word, most of the icons and the interface looks just like office.Think Free- Free but not very user friendly, i hated the pop-up windows. Some actions are not straight forward ,like when you want to open a new document it keeps asking about interface options, bit annoying. You have to install Java Runtime Environment for this application to work.Google Docs-this is free to use, the best way to share documents, diffrent users can edit the same document at the same time.BuzzWord- If you want to use the coolest word a...

30 Day Suicide Plan, Pay By Credit Card
2007-10-18 11:00:00
What’s wrong with this world man, now people pay to get killed, yes, you heard it right! There are websites that help you to commit suicides. I browsed through some of them, just to look how they function. I couldn’t believe that shit, some of them even give specific instruction on how to commit suicide, like making poisons , how to prepare and they even elaborate on how easy to die( as if they know it). One website was offering 30 day plan to committing suicide; you can pay by credit card to download the instruction manual. Japanese people are famous for this type of suicides. Recently they arrested a man for helping a young woman to commit suicide. He was running a suicide website, according to him she paid 1700$ for helping her to get killed. According to the Yomiuri, Japan's largest daily, the woman wrote him in early April saying: "I want to die, how can I die?" Saito wrote back: "I will give you lots of sleeping pills. I...

Next LTTE Attack that anyone can predict
2007-10-15 01:00:00
This article is based on various incidents I read in the news, please click on the links in the article if you want to read them .LTTE is the most ruthless & innovative terrorists group in the world, I see them equal to Al-Qaeda. For 25 years or so they have always changed their tactics of attacking military targets or assassinating people.Former Indian prime minister Rajive Gandi was assassinated using a woman suicide bomber who was pretending to be offering a garland of flowers. Sri Lankan president Ranasinghe Premadasa was assassinated using explosive laden bicycle.Sri Lankan president Chandrika Kumarathunga luckily escaped another woman suicide bomb attack ,but she lost one of her eyes. Sri lankan foreign minister was assassinated by a sniper while swimming in his pool, rumor says that LTTE leader got this idea after watching the movie called "Jackal" (great movie though). Bombing Sri Lankas main air force base in the night using World War II air crafts is another example, L...
