Buddha Visits China On Rainbow & Stays an Hour
2007-07-05 08:16:00
A human-shaped shadow in the middle of a rainbow halo appears on Zushan Mountain after a heavy rainfall in Qinhuangdao, North China ’s Heibei Province, July 1, 2007.The vision, which many tourists believed to be the Buddha , stayed for more than an hour. This could be an entirely natural phenomenon since its a mountainous area, mist could always create different densities in air which could make light refract several times to create Illusions like that, nice picture though. This is a good example of how miracles were added to some religions, if this happened in medieval times,it would have been written on a religious book as a miracle of their religion , depends on who sees it and which religion they are in, this time its Buddhists, sad thing is Buddha preached never to believe in miracles.

Coco de Mer - Amazing Tree
2007-07-01 08:38:00
The sailors who first saw the nut floating in the sea imagined that it resembled a woman's disembodied buttocks.Until the true source of the nut was found, people thought that this nut grows on a mythical tree at the bottom of the sea, which gave its name ,coconut of the sea (coco de mer).I took this picture when i visited its natural habitat in an Island called Praslin.Male flower resembles male sex organ, some people believes this island to be the garden of eden.Coco de Me Nut, originally uploaded by poojitha. This plant only found in Seychelles bears the largest seeds of all plants, weighs 15-30 kg.The Coco de mer is a palm endemic to the islands of Praslin and Curieuse in the Seychelles. Saigon Execution
2007-06-27 10:25:00
Edward Adams, The Associated PressJan. 30, 1968: North Vietnam's Tet offensive brought fighting into the U.S. Embassy in Saigon . Thirty-six hours later, AP photographer Eddie Adams and an NBC crew came upon two South Vietnamese soldiers and a prisoner."And out of nowhere came this guy who we didn't know." Gen. Nguyen Ngoc Loan, chief of South Vietnam's national police, walked up and shot the prisoner in the head. His reason: The prisoner, a Viet Cong lieutenant, had just murdered a South Vietnamese colonel, his wife and their six children. The peace movement adopted the photo as a symbol of war's brutality. But Adams, who stayed in touch with Loan, said the photo wrongly stereotyped the man: "If you're this general and you just caught this guy after he killed some of your people … how do you know you wouldn't have pulled that trigger yourself? You have to put yourself in that situation … It's a war."Watch the video

Walking trees?
2007-06-23 11:15:00
Recently I visited this nature trial of Seychelles near the Babarons beach; trail was not long about 800m from the main road. It reminded me of Sinharaja Forest in Sri Lanka, a primary forest like Amazon. The water was so cold that I thought of not having a bath, I regret that decision now. There were these peculiar looking trees which looked like giant Arthropods with so many legs like roots. Some one told me that these are called Walk ing trees because the tree actually moves on the ground with time. Roots on one side of thee tree grows over each other while the roots on the other side dies, so literally speaking the tree move on the ground with time. Not a bad idea, it must be using this to move towards more fertile soil. These are some of the pictures I took. Among Strang looking Trees , originally uploaded by poojitha. Did light refract before god made the rainbow?
2007-06-20 06:43:00
The best form of defense for those who believe in god is to show the complexity of this universe and say “It must be a work of GOD”. But those who say that will have hard time answering “Why Did He create us” or “What was he doing before he created universe”, Playing hide & seek with angles? Considering the fact that “Half the world — nearly three billion people — live on less than two dollars a day” I have a hard time believing god is really there. I asked this question from a firm believer of god once and he told me that it has happened because we betrayed god once, so he has given freedom to us or something. What a freedom, more than half of the world’s population is hungry today because one guy betrayed god, thank you very much, don’t know what to say when I meet you up in heaven. Are we like a shrimp on gods hand, originally uploaded by poojitha.Once I heard of this group which tried to save a sick Childs life by praying and failing miserably, crated a bi...

How to Rape a girl Twice
2007-06-16 04:55:00
I found this story in BBC about a raped Sri Lankan girl being denied entry to a school by the principal who claimed “she was a disgrace and a bad example to other students”. How can some thing like this could happen, did she want to be raped and videoed? Is it her fault that some one raped her? Most of all, how could a raped victim be a bad example. When she needs her friends and family most, our great culture managed to push her to a dark corner of our society. Is this the way Sri Lankans thinks? We should change this culture of, expecting perfection from women while men could do any filthy thing and be normal in the society. Sri Lankan men are always ready to call women a bitch or whore at the slightest mistake but I have never seen a bad men were called like that, we don’t even have a word for them, do we?I can foresee this girls future. Not being able to go to school she will loose the only way to over come her mental turmoil , people will call her “bitch” in public, o...

Size could be Daunting
2007-06-13 07:15:00
I took this picture when I was in the bird island. It was dawn, birds was starting its day. If you haven’t noticed, look closely at the beach, you’ll see some interesting buildings. Those buildings are built by male crabs; well you might think that the sand piles are created when the crab builds its hole. Actually there is a different story. The biggest sand pile attracts the most females. Simple logic, bigger car attracts more beautiful girls. Some mounds were even close to one foot, not an easy task for a small crab like that. The funny thing was that even new born crabs were building mounds; some were merely 2 centimeter high. They were like guys with push bicycles.crabs, originally uploaded by poojitha.

This man can Play GOD?-A Synthetic Life
2007-06-08 15:09:00
This is no fiction,Dr Craig Venter, the scientist who led the private sector to sequence human genome is back with a new idea. He wants to build a living organism from scratch, a life, truly man made life which could grow and replicate , mind boggling idea ,well he thinks he can do it ,so he has already applied for the patents as well. This could be the turning point of mankind ,like the day we invented fire or wheel. Some groups are beginning to oppose the idea, called on patent offices to reject applications on synthetic life forms. Religious groups will join them very soon, like they did to stop stem cell research in America which could have been used to do scientific wonders like growing an eye for some one who lost it. Luckily, people like them were not there to stop it saying "its gods creation" when we invented fire, so we are eating cooked food now. The scientist says that these life forms could be designed to make fuels and absorb greenhouse gases. Well i think we can even u...

Tired Of Googling? Use Mahalo
2007-06-07 06:51:00
I found about this fantastic search engine called Mahal o ,I was impressed after doing a single search, something you should try. This is a human powered search engine, meaning every search result is carefully reviewed by humans to select the best search results. It could be useful since its guaranteed to give the best results. But there is a downside as well ,because It may have difficulties accessing most newly updated web pages. But its a search engine with true human touch.I would like to add something about Googl e ,Google has introduced a new tool to its collection. Its called Google Gears. It is an open source browser extension that lets developers create web applications that can run off line.Recently Google has acquired a company called Panoramio a web service which you could use to place your photos on a world map,now Google is using this technology in combination with Google earth, fantastic.Soon we would be needing another search to find services offered by Google itself.Some...

Its Not About Winning
2007-06-02 19:22:00
Past 6 months I trained hard, determined to get my next belt in Karate. I always tried my best since Kyokushine Karate is all about being the best fighter. Past month was announced as the grading month, We were excited, I really wanted my blue belt, so I trained 3 times a week, some times 4.Today was the grading day, I was excited, if I get the katas and techniques right, I’ll be called to fight 7 black belts, I have to fight all of them to get my belt. So I got my katas and techniques well enough to please Shihan (Chief Instructor) & Sensei only fighting was left. All the other gathered in a circle to watch us fight, we were called in as “The unlucky guys”, so we were, so to say “I was”. It was hard to fight because we were already exhausted by doing exercises, to add up to the fact, I had a very light breakfast (fool of me).I could fight up to five black belts with no major trouble, I think I did well, disaster strike when Sensei got me to fight the last round, I was to...

Birds Island-Part Four [The Shark]
2007-05-30 21:35:00
So we continued our nature tour towards the shore. Our nature expert Robin showed us a marking on the sand and told us that there were green turtle eggs buried there. We found an abandoned Noody chick screaming on the shore, must have fallen from a nearby tree. We left it there; nature should take its course. Then we found beautiful tropic bird nests among caves created by tree roots. I was told that papaya milk is a tested remedy to cure stings by sea urchins. It relives the pain and removes the stings. If you don’t know what’s a sea urchin is “you’ll know when you got stung by one”. Once again we walked towards the huge bird colony which never fails to amaze. Sun was setting beautifully over the horizon, I took some pictures. When we were returning we were lucky to see a white Tern feeding its baby. It was standing on the branch it hatched, they don’t build nests remember? I took some pictures but it was somewhat blurred, bad light, could have been a beautiful picture. ...

Birds Island-Part Three [Esmeralda]
2007-05-27 17:33:00
Next day morning we were determined to go for snorkeling and kayaking. After having the breakfast we reached the shore with our goggles, flippers and oars. We dragged the kayak to the sea; both of us sat on each side facing each other and started rowing. The boat started moving forward a little bit, then it started going in circles. We started rowing relentlessly to make the boat go strait, which in tern made it rotate on the spot like a spin. We were breathless and laughing, luckily nobody was around. We knew we were doing something wrong, rowing boats not that easy after all. Finally some how we manage to synchronize our rowing a little bit, which made the boat go slowly towards our destination, not for long, with slightest mistake it would start going in circles. After circling many times towards the destination, we stopped to rest, I looked back to find out that we have barely moved 20 meters. Somehow we managed to learn the process of moving the boat and steering it, not perfec...

Birds Island-Part Two [The Colony]
2007-05-23 20:43:00
Bird Island , originally uploaded by poojitha. CLOSE TO BIRDS, originally uploaded by poojitha. There were so many birds nest to be seen, I saw some beautiful White Terns perched glamorously on tree tops, to me they always looked like dolls , eyes painted with black ink , head bit out of proportion , heavenly white body. They are most beautiful when they spread their wings. Finally I managed to find a higher Noody chick hiding near a bush, waiting for its mother to bring food; I gently took it to my hand to take a picture. These birds stay with their parents for 3 years until they find food on their own. Sooty Terns, originally uploaded by poojitha. Noody Chick, originally uploaded by poojitha. I found a bird colony marked on the map and walked towards it, I could realize the size of it even from a distant, that part of the sky was totally dotted by a bird called Sooty Terns. When I reached the colony I found that my road was temporarily blocked by a group of Sooty Tern...

Birds Island-Part One [Arrival]
2007-05-21 13:45:00
Getting on the plane, originally uploaded by poojitha. Flying Low, originally uploaded by poojitha. We packed our bags to get ready to take the flight to Bids Island , a remote island in Seychelles, only accessible by air, one of the most magnificent places on earth. After reaching the air port by taxi, we were waiting eagerly to get on to the plane. It was a small plane, twin engine Otter .I was bit nervous because it was my first flight on such a small plane. There were about 15 people crammed in that small space, all of them excited in reaching the island. The plane was so small; I could even see the pilots adjusting the equipments. The flight took of without any major hassle, bit noisy though. Birds Island, originally uploaded by poojitha. I was sitting near the window, just under the wings. We flew over many beautiful islands like Praslin, La digue and Dennis. I managed to capture some of those in my camera. We were flying at a low altitude, at about 6000 fts. I...

Seychelles Granatics islands, originally uploaded by poojitha. I heard this news in BBC about Maldives islands flooding because of unusual hight tides.Experts warn this could be a result of global warming. In case you haven't visited beautiful Maldives, don't be late, you may have only few years before it disappears from the face of the world, 80% of the nation's 1,200 islands are less than a meter above sea level.News says that one large populated island is completely covered by sea water. We knew this could happen many years before but nobody wanted to act,act now because its now or never.I'm planing to visit an island in Seychelles called Birds Island tomorrow (If its not under water, these days you never know),its completely isolated from the world.Millions of migratory birds and turtle comes to lay their eggs ,millions remember, going to have a fantastic time over their.Hope to share the story with you when i'm back.Until then ,enjoy this picture, converted it to sepia to ...
