The New Media: Bloggers As A Force
2008-02-23 18:05:00 When the Malu Fernandez erupted, it sent a strong and loud message that bloggers have established some degree of clout and critical mass when it came to getting the word out and breaking stories before traditional media could get them out to public consciousness. Though it was viewed as a victory for ... More About: Media , Force , Bloggers , New Media

Why Jumper Sucks
2008-02-15 10:57:00 By now, you probably know that Jumper totally failed to live up to the hype and just left most of those who watched in a total state of disgust and frustration. When you first see the trailer to Jumper, it’s hard not to be thrilled by it. The concept is not exactly fresh, but the ... More About: Sucks
Davao Photo
2008-02-12 16:00:00 I’m used to seeing the words Davao Photo on my Yahoo Messenger window courtesy of Alleba, so it’s quite a shock to see somebody else seemingly promoting a blog about photos of Davao. To my surprise, the link points to a different site. Featuring other people’s blogs on my own site has been ...
Did We Save A Life?: The Thalassemia Consult
2008-02-11 15:00:00 Thalassemia is definitely not one of the ball park disease that most people would be familiar with. That’s probably the reason why it’s so hard to accept for a mother with nothing much apart from the clothes on her back that her five year old daughter has something so alien and something she has never ... Important Issues For the 2010 National Elections
2008-02-09 08:47:00 This is in response to Janette Toral’s tag. It’s quite noble to analyze the dynamics of an upcoming election despite already knowing how elections are usually played out in this country. It’s no big secret that those who decide the election are the misinformed masses who wouldn’t really care about issues. We would be lucky if these people would even give a token glance on issues before making up their minds on who to vote for. Politics is a simple game of persuasion wherein a box of liquor (during a supposed alcohol ban) and a few hundred pesos per voter could change the fates of candidates. Cynicism has its place in elections because society has not properly empowered the voters. To a certain extent, society doesn’t exactly promote healthy debates and arguments to occur due to the Filipino concept of pakikisama (compromising to get along) and conformity. Aside from the Charter Change issue, is there any other big concept out there that is contentio... More About: Elections , National , Issues
A Week Before Atheista.net Turns 1
2008-02-09 05:19:00 I find it very interesting that Atheista.net is just about to have its first year anniversary. In less than a year of its existence, I think this blog has featured articles that introduced a new perspective never before expressed with much gusto and magnitude to the growing Philippine Blog Community. A year’s worth of traveling, competing, debating, song-writing, vocal-cords-busting, TV whoring and saving lives (yes, this has become my favorite euphemism for med school) has been encapsulated and immortalized through this website - as long I have the money to pay for hosting! And that’s just the non-blogging relating things that I managed to squeeze into my schedule. I’m just amazed at what a year could do. Here’s to more years with Atheista. :p Viewed 266 times by 169 viewers More About: Week
New 7 Wonders of Nature: Vote For Tubbataha
2008-02-07 12:19:00 After pissing off Egyptians in a ploy to update the list of the seven man-made wonders of the world, New7Wonders Foundation is at it again. The voting for the New 7 Wonders Of Nature is now underway with the 77 nominees from all over the world duking it out for the 21 slots reserved for the finalists. Only sites with an official committee to support the nomination were allowed to continue and by the looks of things, it’s quite easy to see that it will be a very contentious and divisive race to the top. The Philippines is represented by the biologically diverse enchilada of the Tubbataha Reef in the Sulu Sea. The prohibitive location and price of Tubbataha has made it quite a novel destination for the everyday traveler, but for the serious divers, naturalists and underwater photographers, the reef has long been a treasure trove of stunning discoveries and unforgettable experiences. Due to the remoteness of the reef itself and to further protect the underwater environment, divi... More About: Vote

A Patient?s Patience
2008-01-29 20:40:00 My block just started our rotation under the Department of Pediatrics. To further enhance our learning and better our chances in understanding what a patient goes through, we were instructed to play the part of the bantays (people who accompany the sick patients at the out-patient clinic). For this activity, we gave our white uniforms ... More About: Patience , Patient

The TriNoMa Bloggers Food Tour: The Honor Roll
2008-01-15 19:35:00 I know a lot has been said about certain food establishments that participated during the much anticipated and much ballyhooed TriNoMa Blogger Food Tour . Though I agree that certain people could’ve been nicer to bloggers, I somehow feel bad about potentially harming the reputation of a restaurant because of one lousy employee. Having been brought ... The Best Thing That Happened During The Worlds
2008-01-10 21:26:00 I know I’ve already talked about how bad the 28th Worlds Universities Debate Championship was as far the Pinoys were concerned, but if there was one positive thing that came out of it, it’s certainly this one. Aside from debating, there is also a public speaking competition that runs parallel with the rounds. During the ... More About: Thing

The Preliminary Rounds: In Pictures
2008-01-08 16:54:00 Aside from preparing by reading up on the latest developments in international affairs and current events, packing for the Worlds ranks as one of the most tedious steps to be done before the competition itself. People I Met At The Assumption Worlds
2008-01-06 17:13:00 The Assumption Worlds was truly a global competition. There were over a thousand debaters, adjudicators, public speakers and observers from the 188 participating institutions from all over the world. The Philippines was well-represented with a strong contingent of 20 teams and over a dozen adjudicators from nine competing debate varsities. Since this is a global ... More About: People

No Pinoys In The Break Rounds
2008-01-01 21:11:00 It is with great sadness that I announce that no Filipino team managed to finish within the top 32 spots in this year’s Worlds Universities Debate Championship. To add insult to injury, no Asian team broke as well. The break rounds will be essentially a Caucasian-dominated field. I know it’s unspeakable and often hush-hush, but racism has always been an issue in the Worlds. This Worlds will go down as one of the most poorly adjudicated tournaments in a long time. – To be fair to my teams adjudicators, I really believed that we were adjudicated fairly in all but one round. For the other teams though, it was a totally different story. Viewed 608 times by 309 viewers More About: Break , Rounds
