Crocs, beaches and Jackie Chan
2008-04-06 20:11:00 I went to the Crocodile bank a second time, after i went the first time with my parents. After watching a very different Jackie Chan in "New Police Story" with Naina, we were wondering what to do; and we came upon the idea of doing something "different". Amulya to the rescue. She has always patiently made sure that I don't need a GPS unit in Chennai. She's off to the Hague though, so, I don't know about the near future.. ;) She gave precise instructions to reach IIT from Naina's place, and I knew my way from there.After a nice and easy ride, we finally came to the crocodile bank...The Bay of Bengal runs parallel to the East Coast Road, and we see awesome coastlines en route to the Crocodile Bank, here's a video I took... I love the app. Hasbro is involved in talks to take over the game.I have been through many discussion forums, and the gist of the discussions everywhere after discounting rabid fan boys and equally determined foes of the Agrawalla bros is this.1. Hasbro had given Atari the rights to an electronic scrabble game. after that licence expired, no follow up was done until a user pointed it out to Hasbro who had "forgotten about it". The general consensus was that Hasbro sucks as they basically don't care about the game, just making money.2. Patents last for 25 years, and thus there is no patent for scrabble.3. Copyrights can exist only for the lettering, and the collateral that comes in the box, like the manual. Scrabulous doesn't copy that as far as my knowledge goes.4. 2008-03-06 12:50:00 I wasn't paying too much attention to my Google Reader lately, and today I finally got a chance of going through the posts I have missed out reading.It so happens, there was a gem of a story by Seth Godin about how to gain a 1000 true fans for whatever you do. His take:This is Kevin Kelly's best riff of the year, and that's saying an enormous amount. Go read it!Some people will read this and immediately understand. Others will read it and start waffling over the meaning of "true." My expansion: you need to alter what you do and how you do it so that 1,000 true fans is sufficient to make you very happy.I would strongly recommend anyone to go read that post - it has an awesome concept in it. 2008-02-04 08:44:00 Watblog, a guy I follow at twitter, just talked about Indian railways opening up their APIs so that anybody could access railway data and implement train reservation systems on their website. I am sure this will be at some sort of fee based system. More details at the link on the blog header.Now, imagine this. Better servers at the railway people's end (at this point of time, the "tatkal" time period of 0800 hrs always results in a whitescreen at their site, and I can never reserve an ad hoc ticket at peak hours, due to connectivity issues)And a facebook developer who develops an app so that I can reserve my train tickets via facebook itself. I trolled for, and found available seats for saturday and sunday. Saturday and Sunday happen to be the days where the concerts happen. Potential trouble.
