Just started watching Bleach "properly"
2008-03-20 05:23:00
Bleach is a very popular manga which was then turned into an anime series. It was created by Noriaki Kubo better known by his pen named Tite Kubo from the Hiroshima prefecture of Japan. Bleach is an anime I started out watching a few years ago, but got bored by it's slow pace and initially I didn't like the comedic twists and animations it had from time to time, I just found it awkward that a character could be bloodthirsty one minute that be a stupid comedian the other minute. Bleach stars Ichigo Kurosaki who starts the anime as a high school student who has a run in with soul reaper named Rukia Kuchiki and before you know it the story explodes into an action packed anime with light sprinkles of comedy. From what I see and hear among my friends Bleach is the next popular long running and continuous anime series after Naruto. You all know how disappointed I am with the stretching out of the Naruto anime currently and it just seems I get angrier each week when all kinds of unexpl...

Boys and Girls Championships 2008
2008-03-17 16:47:00
Boys and Girls Champs held in Kingston Jamaica is the biggest yearly track and field event in the western hemisphere. Male and female athletes from from high schools all over Jamaica compete over 4 days in various events for the right to be crowned champions. This year the event was sponsored again by Grace Kennedy, Bmobile, Western Union and others and although I wasn't able to attend this year because of a last minute family emergency it lived up to it's billing and produced some wonderful performances from our young up-and-coming athletes who I am sure the world will be introduced to soon - three such names are Ramone McKenzie, Jura Levy and Yohan Blake. The World's fastest Man - Asafa Powell presenting a gift to Ramone McKenzie of Calabar High School Boys and Girls Champs started way back in 1910 and every great Jamaican athlete known to the world today passed through these championships. From Herb McKenley to Donald Quarry, to Melene Ottey to Veronica Campbell to the curre...

Step up 2: The Streets
2008-03-15 15:27:00
I am enduring a work filled, stress filled, and retarded stretch of days, but such is life and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I made an unexpected trip to the theatre Wednesday night with friends, I wasn't sure what was showing there but I didn't mind and wanted to be surprised. I didn't have a whole lot of flicks to choose from and the only memorable shows on where 10,000BC - a prehistoric love story of same mammoth hunting dude's fight for his girlfriend and Step up 2: the streets - a dancing focused film and sequel to a film I had seen some years back and liked. So I decided to check out Step up 2: The Streets . My first impressions of the film were...why is the main character in this film so damn lame?...but eventually she grew on me. The story of this movie is composed of a spoiled, bratty, rebellious white kid who hands with the wrong crowd she hates the world because her mom died when she was young and she is constantly at war with her foster parent. Mix that...

2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing 150 Days away - Mascot Information
2008-03-10 17:10:00
Continuing with part of two of series of posts counting down to the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing . The 200 day countdown post spoke about all the work China is putting into these games as well as my expectations for team Jamaica. Now with 150 days to go I will post information about the 5 2008 Olympic games mascots as requested by Leon. There are 5 mascots representing the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, one for each of the five Olympic rings and also the five elements of nature according to Chinese customs - sea, forest, fire, earth and sky. They are called "Fuwa" and they carry a message of friendship and peace from China to the world. Huanhuan is the Olympic Flame, Jingjing is the Panda, Nini is the Swallow, Yingying is the Tibetan Antelope and Beibei is the Fish. Each of Fuwa has a rhyming two-syllable name which is a traditional way of expressing affection for children in China. Hmmm if my parents were Chinese I wonder what they would call me...JamJam...? For ...

In Love with my Sister's New Laptop - Dell Vostro 1000
2008-03-09 17:56:00
My sister will be 10 in a few months and lately she been hogging my own PC so me and my mom decided that we should get her a laptop. I got a dirt cheap but brand new Dell Vostro 1000 for her on Ebay as I thought a basic setup would all she needs for all her homework, disney.com and family.ca browsing and flash game playing, but I ensured I got a DVD drive and burner for my own movie and anime watching needs. The notebook arrived a few days ago and low and behold I have fallen in love with it. I thought it would have been cheap and not of the caliber of a tech freak like me...heck I have been wanting to buy a laptop for over a year now but everything that catches my eye is over us$1000. My sister's computer is great, maybe it's the new PC syndrome, but I will take this s inspiration to try and save more so I can get my own this summer. Not really a Dell fan I am more an HP kinda guy but I kinda like the simplicity of her set-up, I don't expect it to run any advanced PC games, bu...

Happy Birthday to me ^_^
2008-03-08 19:33:00
Today is my birthday and I have been having a great day so far. I have received quite a few gifts from friends and I suspect my mom and sister are up to something as they quickly left the house as soon as I woke up and have not returned since. I have been also receiving an overwhelming amount of phone calls, text messages and emails from friends and I am in a great mood. I am not a fussy person so a quite laid back day at home relaxing on my birthday is fine by me, I will be going out to watch a movie at the theatre later, I just hope something is there worth watching. Who wants t guess or check through my blog for hints and post in a comment how old I am today?

Sign Petition to Help Make Bob Marley A National Hero In Jamaica
2008-03-05 20:37:00
Bob Marley is a worldwide icon and a personal role model of mine, the lyrical content of his songs remain relevant many decades after his death but it is sad that he doesn't get the official attention he should get from his homeland Jamaica. I was emailed an online petition today that aims to get 1 million signatures before presenting it to the government of Jamaica and I ask that if you know of Mr Marley and his music and think he deserves to be the 8th National Hero of Jamaica that you sign the petition and blog about it on your own blogs if you have one. Click here to sign petition Bob Marley for National Hero Myspace page Petition Text It's been almost 27 years since the death of Bob Marley, yet despite previous appeals by the Marley Family and a host of posthumous awards Jamaica still refuses to accord the Hon. Robert Nesta Marley national hero status, the country's highest honour. Bob Marley deserves to be among the fraternity of Jamaica's honored national heroes. To ...

Two of the best cosplaying Photoblogs I've seen
2008-03-03 19:03:00
I as I stated in my previous post about my own photoblog I have recently been taking a lot of photographs, gaining experience and getting out of the house/office more often on my own little personal photo trips. I have been bookmarking a visiting a lot of photoblogs and even before posting about my own photoblog I discovered a 2 great photoblogs through another site that I wish I remembered so I could link to it. The two blogs are ~MPzero~ and Cosplayers Photo Studio. I know nothing about the owners of these blogs because both are in Japanese and my Japanese is nowhere near that level yet, but who needs to read when your eye are busying examining high quality high resolution shots of cosplaying goodness (and preeeeeeeetty girls) straight out of Japan! Picture Source - ~MPzero~ I look forward to taking pictures of cosplayers in Japan in the future, I just hope my pictures can come anywhere close to the quality of these shots, all of which are extraordi...

Pictures from the Japanese Teaching Material Handing Over Ceremony
2008-02-26 19:03:00
The Japanese teaching material handing over ceremony yesterday was a great experience. I met many people the most important of which was the Japanese Ambassador to Jamaica - Masahiro Obata. He didn't stay too long but from my little time with him he wasn't as straight faced and stern as I imagined he would be and was quite jovial and friendly. I also met a few persons from Jamaica who have benefited from the JET Program who spoke of their experience in Japan and of course that was the most interesting part of the ceremony to me because visiting Japan and teaching English through the Jet program is an aim of mine. There were presentations in Japanese by students of various levels, although I didn't plan to I ended up taking part with fellow step 3 level classmates. In less than an hour everything was over and I socialized a bit catching up on happenings with Tomoko sensei and friends I haven't seen for a while while helping myself to refreshments. Big thanks to my friend ...

Japan launches Kizuna - Experimental Internet communications satellite
2008-02-24 16:15:00
Japan has been launching satellite after satellite over the past few years. I have been on top of a few of those launches which include the Kaguya Lunar Probe (and the hi def pictures of the earth it sent back) and the AKARI space Observer. The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency's latest child in space is called WINDS (Wideband InterNetworking engineering test and Demonstration Satellite ) and is code named Kizuna. I prefer to call it Kizuna as scientific and abbreviated names are usually lame -_- not to mention loooonnnggg. Kizuna was launched yesterday from the Tanegashima Space Centre after being delayed for a few weeks and was jointly developed by JAXA, National Institute of Information and Communication Technology, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. This latest communications satellite will be used to provide low cost high speed internet access across Japan and other Asian countries as well as for testing the next generation of hi definition technology. Gears of War 2 Announced
2008-02-20 22:50:00
Sweet mother of the gaming Gods, one of the biggest, best selling and most played next-gen games Gears of War is getting a sequel. Gears of War 2 is expected to drop in November 2008 and from my previous Gears of War related post you know that I am aligned with the invading Locust Horde! I play the original Gears of War a whole lot at the Area 51 arcade. It's a shooter, it's action packed, bloody and there is tonnes of competition. I can only imagine they mayhem that will ensue when the guys at the arcade learn of this news and see the trailer below. Download and watch a higher quality trailer Why is Gears of War so Big? Gears of War is like the original Halo of the last generation, an unknown, overnight hit that arrived at the perfect time and stood out from the competition. I love Gears of War, it's innovative, it tickles the graphics whore in me and nothing brings two friends closer than competing to see who can get the most headshots...skull cracking, ear drum bursting h...

HD-DVD concedes Defeat in the Format War with Blu-ray
2008-02-19 14:51:00
It's now official, Blu-ray is now the standard next generation video format after Toshiba threw in the towel on their HD-DVD format this morning after being rumored to do so for weeks. I am happy that finally there war is over and the entertainment industry can now settle on one standard format, but it's still sad that cheaper more accessible technology lost out. blu-ray disc Sony can now expect a tonne load of cash from every buying licensing to produce Blu-ray products and maybe I can finally justify buying a Playstation 3 which comes with a blu-ray drive. I am most interested to see how this unfolds in the gaming industry with Sony rival and HD-DVD supporter Microsoft now stuck with a dead format. Toshiba concedes defeat in DVD format war

There is no such thing as Science Fiction - Random Ramblings
2008-02-18 22:38:00
Yes, I stand behind the title of this post 100%, but isn't that too strong of a statement to make?...I think not! There is no such things as science fiction but instead I interpret what is said to be "fiction" as the the greatest products of man's imagination. These mental products are then shared, attempted and continually improved by the greatest minds in our civilization until they become reality. I hereby change the name from Science Fiction to "Future Scientific Actuality!" ^_^ Asimo robot by Honda - photo source I saw an interesting article on BBC News recently entitled "Machines to match man by 2029". After reading it I realized that I needed no more proof to support my above comments. It talks about humans soon being able to implant nanobots in their brains to make them smarter among other things one thought to be impossible or...you guess it....fiction. I mean think about it and take a mental travel back in time 50 years and imagine life back then, who would have though...

HMS Jamaica - Former British Royal Navy Ship
2008-02-17 06:59:00
It's late, I can't sleep and I am up reading all kinds of things on the internet. I hope you read my about page, because if you did you would have known that I am also a military buff that almost joined the British Army. British Colonial Naming - HMS Jamaica I was reading up on various ships and one thing led to next and before you knew it i discovered that there was once a Crown Colony Cruiser in the British Royal Navy named after Jamaica. The HMS Jamaica as she was called was one of many light cruisers named after what was then British colonial "possessions". The HMS Jamaica saw action all over the world especially in the second world war and was one of the naval stars of the Korean War where it picked up the nick names "galloping ghost of the Korean coast" and "Fighting J". HMS Jamaica Why don't they teach this stuff in local and regional schools instead of so much American, European and the whole watered slave trade and flawed Caribbean history. Just thought I'd geek out...

Meet the Smileys - 22 Custom Smileys for Jamaipanese.com
2008-02-13 19:58:00
Over the past few weeks I have been working with a graphics designer to creat a set of custom smileys for Jamaipanese.com. A few months ago I discovered a smiley plugin for my blogging software but wasn’t happy with thedefault set of smileys, I got a freely available set which I have been using but although they were great I still longed for a customized set made just for my blog and unavailable anywhere else. Satisfied Custom er I hired a designer for the task and he followed my instructions quite well and surpassed my expectations. So now I have a set of 22 smileys and although I wanted them available in time for my second blogiversary I didn’t want to rush and be dissatisfied. The best part is the cost for the smileys was covered by the ads I display on the site, absolutely no cost to me…cool huh? Blog Development and Jamaipanese.com Trademark One of my hopes for this my third year blogging is to get Jamaipanese.com a look, feel and experience of it’s own. So I am developing...

Third Nintendo DS Lite and Japanese Version of Brawl
2008-02-10 16:33:00
My sister broke the first one, I sold they second one to help cover the cost of my new camera and now I have a third special edition one in an online sale which offered me a free game different from the one it comes packaged with. Limited Edition Gold Nintendo DS Lite I got another NIntendo DS yesterday that comes packages with the Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass but Advance Wars Days of Ruin and Brain Age 2 (my free game) will be arriving early next week. I had originally wanted to buy a iPod Touch, but I still think they are overpriced. Super Smash Smash Bros Brawl Some of my impatient friends took it upon themselves to modify their Wii consoles just to play the import version of Super Smash Bros Brawl. They game is everything I expected it to be and more. New characters, great graphics, excellent animation and super smash attacks that aren't going to get stale any time soon. For some strange reason I am liking how Diddy Kong feels when I use him but Samus will always re...

My Entrecard Experience

It's been almost 2 months since I signed up for entrecard and I previously did a post explaining how entrecard works and what it can and should do, I have even given away a few points in a very successful entrecard competition in which i got over 20 entries. The Raw Figures Entrecard has sent me almost 2500 visitors in the time I have used it - a little over 1000 via ads I purchased on other sites and over 1300 from the entrecard.com website. I've dropped my card on other blogs over 1600 times and have had almost 2400 cards dropped back on mine....thats a very favourable drop ratio ^_^. The cost to advertise on my blog has been as high as 150 credits but I now know how to keep that cost hovering around 75-100 credits...which I think is an acceptable price for a blog at my level. entrecard stats jamaipanese Positives and Negatives Traffic is the main positive of entrecard, and with more traffic comes more comments and RSS subscribers. FIFA 2008, a very addictive football video game
2008-02-05 05:29:00
I’ve only been playing FIFA 2008 for the Xbox 360 a few weeks now but it has been out since late last year. Now I am sorry I didn’t start playing earlier because the game is so addictive and fun I just can’t stop playing. Electronic Art’s long running and very popular FIFA football series of games is very popular here in Jamaica. Next to track and field football is the next biggest sport here (R.I.P. cricket and the West Indies) and when all other kinds of video game are taboo or looked down upon a FIFA football game can be found everywhere, just yesterday I was at a barbershop watching big, grown, thug acting guys scream like schoolgirls during an excited 4 player FIFA 2008 match. Football ing Frenzy Every well known team is present and accounted for in FIFA 2008. Every player is modeled after their real life counterparts especially star players like Ronaldinho, Malouda, Rooney, Messi, Tevez and Cech. I love the game and I can’t get enough of it and it has taken over from Gears o...

Jamaipanese.com is two years old today!
2008-02-02 07:32:00
I can't believe it's been two years since my first post on this blog and it seems only a month or two ago I made my 1st anniversary post. It's now two years and it's not until I started running through the statistics for the past year to have information for this post that I realized how much my blog has grown over the past year. Let me start first by thanking all the regular visitors to my blog over the past year because without you I wouldn't have been able to continue blogging. Stats and Figures for the past year In my first year of blogging on Jamaipanese.com I made 77 posts but it the second year I made an unbelievable 296 entries which calculates to 5-6 posts per week. Cherine Anderson - A Rising Jamaican Entertainer
2008-01-31 22:38:00
My post is mainly about Cherine Anderson , a beautiful and talented Jamaican actress/songstress who has grown and evolved over the years on Jamaican entertainment scene. I like her music and she has played excellent roles in movies the most memorable being Dancehall Queen and One Love. Jamaica’s development continues to be helped by Japan

A very good friend of mine who knows all too well of my Japan obsession threw me a link early this morning. It’s news that puts a smile on my face and teaches me a lot about Japan’s contributions to Jamaica ’s social and economic development over the past couple decades. Interesting Facts in Article Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) and Japan Overseas Co-operation Volunteers (JOCV) focuses on poverty reduction, security improvement, conservation of the environment, marine engineering, enterprise development, health care, technology programs, natural disaster prevention, HIV/AIDS education prevention programs, skills training and the expansion of domestic water supply. It’s a great read and goes into great detail about each type of assistance providing statistics on the tens of millions of $US Japan has spend through various organizations ad programs over the years that has done well to uplift Jamaica....read full news item took this photo a while back with my new cam...

Annoyed with the Naruto Manga and Anime - quick rant
2008-01-28 22:51:00
The Naruto manga series and it's anime adaptation is one of the most popular series not only in Jamaica but in the entire world right now. Naruto video games, memorabilia and other merchandise is pure gold at the moment and Naruto character Cosplayers overrun every popular Anime Expo, but my all seeing otaku eyes sense doom for the Naruto series on a whole because die hards like me are starting to be disappointed as my feelings are shared by most of my anime/manga loving friends. The Naruto Anime You could almost hear the celebrations of my otaku brethren worldwide when it was announced in mid 2006 that the Naruto anime was returning after a long break with an addition to the name and a promise of a continuation of the story, and in February 2008 Naruto Hurricane Chronicles was born. It started all well and good but after the first couple exciting episodes and the hype wore off I came to realize how lackluster the animation and artwork was with very few exceptions. The episodes ...

Japanese "ru" verb practise
2008-01-27 23:16:00
I’ve been doing my best to put aside some Japanese study time from time to time, because as I said in my post about wanting to conquer the Japanese Language I have been at the same level for over a year now and now that I’ve started looking over some stuff I am now convinced that I have regressed further than I thought. Continuing on from my post about Japanese “u” verbs I present a post about “ru” verbs giving examples and a few basic sentences. If you are unable to see some of the characters typed below please install East Asian language support on your PC. If you see them but don’t understand what they mean and you want to know, consult the Hiragana Charts. The verbs will be written in example sentences in conversational or “masu” form: Positive present tense, past present tense, positive past tense and negative past tense. Please note that Japanese does not have future tense. たべる - to eat ねる - to sleep かける - to call ...
Virgin Galactic takes aim at Space Tourist Market
2008-01-25 21:40:00
I stay on top of most space related news and over the last few days media outlets all over the world has been abuzz with news that Virgin Galactic ’s unveiling of its Space ShipTwo spacecraft and its WhiteKnightTwo carrier. So start saving from now because in 2010 a trip into space will cost you us$200,000 initially but is expected to gradually get cheaper as trips get streamlined. In the first 12 years Virgin Galactic hopes to build and operate 40 SpaceShipTwos and 15 WhiteKnightTwo carrier crafts. This is wonderful news for Space travel geeks like me and the best part about this news is that it isn’t decades off or still in planning or might not happen….it’s coming baby and in less than two years! Are you excited about this announcement? and if yes how long do you think it will take before it becomes affordable? The Video Game library available to me
2008-01-23 17:45:00
One of the benefits of having a mentor and long time friend who owns a video game arcade is playing all the biggest, best and latest console video games within 2 weeks of their release and playing for free as long as a controller is available which is very often in a game arcade with 24 42" plasma screens always available and where the multi player action in games like Halo 3, Gears of War and Fifa 2008 is smoking hot. some of the close to 100 console games available to me So I feel good knowing that my 20 hour per week gaming addiction is costing me nothing more than my eyesight. Area 51 Video Game s have really been at the forefront of gaming in Jamaica over the years and they have done some refurbishing work at the arcade that sets it way above the competition. In my gratitude I will be doing a post about the arcade in a few weeks complete with pictures and videos, so look out for that.

2008 Summer Olympic Games In Beijing 200 days away
2008-01-20 16:04:00
There are exactly 200 days to go before the start of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and it is one of my most anticipated events of 2008. I can feel in my bones that team Jamaica will stamp its class a little harder at this year’s games and better the 5 medal haul from Athens in 2004. China’s games are warming up and will be the biggest staging of the Olympic Games ever with over 300 events and they have spent billions on dollars on stadiums, advertising, infrastructure and campaigns to improve the friendliness and promote “appropriate behavior “among Beijing’s citizens, all to ensure the success of the event, the improvement of China’s image to the world and cement their place as a world power. 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Mascots Look forward to more posts related to the 2008 Olympic game in the days leading up to the event.
