Got my new Digital Camera Yesterday
2007-12-12 07:10:00 Got a text message last night from the local courier service I joined recently saying that my package had arrived and was ready for pick-up, so being the typical civil servant in Jamaica I took it upon myself to take time off from the government’s work to go pick up my package first thing yesterday morning. It was my first time using one of these courier services/clubs where you join for a fee and then get an American address where you would ship items bought online to as long as you place your membership number as part of the address, they would then ship the item to Jamaica for me charging a fee depending on the weight of the item. Bought my cam online on the 5th of December and on yesterdat the 1th it is safe and sound in my hands. Anyway enough of that, please allow me to geek out about my cam ^_^. Following Taylor’s recommendation I discarded my plans for a SLR and went for a easy to use semi professional digital cam with great zoom and features. The number one candidate was ... Gaming Bliss - playing through multiple video games
2007-12-10 04:35:00 My internet connection at home continues to be unreliable, it seems Yatta was right and Flow Jamaica has DNS problems. I have taken the opportunity to spend a lot of time out of the house this weekend and I have also been playing a lot of video games. I have managed to finish the PS3 version of Assassins Creed so everyone can look forward to a review soon although I will be playing it over on the Xbox 360. Bioshock continues to be a wonderful (but scary) experience that I can only manage in small doses but I think I am about 80% complete in that game. Call of duty 4, I am playing this game on the second hardest difficulty and it frustrating! (in a good way). I love the experience and enjoy every minute of it. The sight of an RPG flying through the air never looked better. FIFA 2008 is the best football game I have ever played. The multiplayer scene is very hyped right now and I am must admit that I am a small fry compared to the big guys at the Area 51 Video Game arcade, but ... Fix my Connection!
2007-12-06 03:36:00 It’s been about 3 days now since my internet connection at home been acting funny. Certain pages are either displaying very slowly or not at all and for someone like me who spends a lot of time on the internet for both leisure and business it is frustrating. I have to keep refreshing certain pages or waiting for a long time for images to load up. I have checked my wireless connection and equipment many times and I am sure the problem isn’t from my side but calling Flow Jamaica’s customer service is proving increasingly difficult lately, I have to hold for long periods, listening to annoying jingles, christmas promotions and advertisements and the dumb technical staff still have not properly diagnosed the problem since yesterday. Been calling back all day but can’t get anyone, I’m guessing because today is Local Government Elections, so much for 24/7 customer service. Flow Jamaica's website has a new look since the last time I visited I’ll sleep on it and then call again first thi... More About: Connection

Speaking Japanese is hard but English is even harder
2007-12-03 15:29:00 A friend of mine sent me this video in an email. Many English language speakers like me who are studying Japanese find it very difficult because of the difference between the languages, how it is spoken, read, pronunciation and much much more, but have you ever thought about it from the other side? Here is a hilarious video from a television program in Japan, the aim is not to laugh while a native Japanese speaker tries to speak English. I laughed within the first minute, and by the end of the video I was laughing uncontrollably. More About: Hard , Speaking
2007 Miss World Competition - Well done Yendi Phillips
2007-12-01 15:43:00 So I was dug out of bed earlier than usual on a Saturday morning by my little sister who wanted a screaming partner while watching Miss World 2007. As it turns out I enjoyed the show and I had my beautiful women from all over the world. As expected I had my bets on my two stereotypical favourites: Jamaica and Japan, but as the program went on Poland, Trinidad and China looked as If they stood a chance to win. The Japanese and Polish contestants were the first to illuminated and then I got super excited when Jamaica, Trinidad and China made the top 12. Only to be shouting at the screen 5 minutes later when Jamaica fell out of the race and didn’t make it to the top 5. Her motto is “Life is short so do everything with wholehearted commitment; love life and live in love!” So the top five turned out to be Mexico, Trinidad, China, Sweden and Angola. No disrespect to my Swedish brethren but Miss Sweden looked and acted completely out of the loop as if she was rising a series of “buck-u... More About: Competition , Phillips , General
Japan Extension Dreadist Society
2007-11-29 21:32:00 Harvey, a fellow blogger on Japan related topics has a blog called Japan Newbie. He has lived in Japan for years and I swing by his blog from time to time to read up on his latest experiences living, working and traveling in Japan. A few days ago he made a post called "are you a dreadist?" which is about an interesting organization in Japan called the Japan Extension Dreadist Society . I wasn’t surprised that such a society existed but I was surprised at how great their dreads/braids/cornrows look and how pro Jamaica they were ^_^. Hitman Movie Review
2007-11-28 23:08:00 It’s been a while since I have watched a movie that caught my interest enough for me to blog about it and the last movie I blogged about was Death Note – The Last Stand. Yesterday I watched Hitman at the theatre and it was a great experience. I have been following up on news related to the Hitman Movie for a few years now and I remember some time ago that there was talk that Vin Diesel would have stared as the main character. After a while though Vin passed up the role and all I remember was that a young not so popular actor was taking over. The movie is now out and doing very well and after watching it I have to say that it lives up the gaming franchise it was based upon although I have only played a few of the Hitman video games. The action in this movie is believable, so no super powered, untouchable hero here. The Hitman character comes across as he should and is supported well by the rest of the cast with the exception of the robot like Russian General who had me in stitches ... Heroes TV Series Biblical Character Comparison
2007-11-23 18:26:00 This is the point where I planned to make a first impressions post on season 2 of Heroes but my twisted mind has hatched another plan and I have thought of something out of the ordinary. As all fanatic Heroes fans I am always trying to predict the next twist in the story of this popular show but so far there have been little or no patterns to follow in the story and Heroes is the type of show that not even if a bullet pierces your skull, death is still uncertain.^_^. This post took me a week to write, hence its length -_-. So I either have too much time on my hands or I am just enjoying Heroes, I have found an interesting comparison to make, and it involves the characters with biblical names in the series! Biblical Noah Righteous man instructed by God to build and Ark and save his family as well as one male and female of every living thing of flesh. All of the people of the world are descended from him and his family and he lived to be over 600 years old. Heroes Noah Noah Bennet b... More About: Series , Tv Series , Character , Comparison

Fingerprinting of all Foreigners entering Japan has begun
2007-11-20 19:12:00 Yes, its now official all non-Japan ese nationals or persons with special privileges and permission inside of or visiting Japan are all suspected terrorists. I've never been off this beautiful tropical island rock called Jamaica, not because I couldn't but because I refuse to travel to another persons country and feel like a second rate human and the visa and paperwork requirements were too much for me and I couldn't be bothered. I am having trouble swallowing the terrorism prevention measure excuse been offered up by Japan and my plans for visiting Japan just got more complicated. I have nothing to fear and to the best of my knowledge I am not a terrorist but if this is not discrimination I don't know what is and if I were a terrorist Japan would be extra attractive right now, can you imagine the publicity bomb the first terrorist attack in japan after these new rules are implemented will get now? Sunshine Girls finish third in World Netball Championships
2007-11-18 20:01:00 The roses of England bloomed for six days then finally wilted in the heat of the Sunshine Girls That was how the opening sentence of Suzanne McFadden's well written post game coverage written in the New Zealand Herald. The Sunshine Girls after making it to the Semis we beaten by New Zealand but out shined England to take third place in World Netball Champions. In finishing third they lived up to their ranking on 3rd in the world. Well done girls you have made me and the entire Jamaica proud. The Sunshine Girls - Semi Finals of Netball World Championships
2007-11-15 19:35:00 The Sunshine Girls are into the semi finals of the 2007 Netball World Championships and will be facing the Silver Ferns from New Zealand for a spot in the final. The match will be taking place in the wee hours of tomorrow morning Jamaica time and I hope the young Jamaica team makes it through. I’ve been watching highlights of the matches and although this is not the best team we have ever sent to an international netball event it’s still a strong and young team and we have to keep up with or improve our number one ranking in the world. Elaine Davis, Jamaica's super tall Goal Shooter at a press conference before the 2007 Netball World Champs I recently got interested in netball after my too other favourite sports (football and cricket) continue their downward spiral. Japanese Fashion Influenced by Crime
2007-11-14 17:32:00 Fool pursuing robbers by disguising yourself as a soda machine, that’s just one of the various “ideas” being developed by designers in Japan. The Japanese people are afraid of crime and although living in a country where crime is actually declining they are always brainstorming ways to keep their themselves and their families safe. Image source - NY Times So if a soda machine camouflage is not your style why not try the “manhole bag” that when dropped unfolds to look like a manhole cover, I posted about manhole covers in Japan a few days ago, I wonder if any of them were manhole bag prototypes. My battle with an error while Registering for Youtube
2007-11-13 20:10:00 I just spent the last 30 minutes wrestling with Youtube and swearing at the computer screen only to realize that the culprit was a cookie! Sound weird to you?...Ok let me explain. I was creating a Youtube channel to post future game related videos from Area 51, that same videogame arcade I talk about from time to time. So I headed over to Youtube and signed out my regular account and clicked sign up to create one for the game arcade. I thought it would have been cool to have the date of birth field being the first day the arcade opened which from the arcade's website states April 2002. I kind of thought that it wouldn’t work but I click so fast that I thought it would only cost me about 3 seconds to see if it would work. I filled out all the other fields and clicked enter and was hit in the face with an error "Sorry. Based on the information you have submitted to us, you are ineligible to register for YouTube.com." I said to my self “oh well, it didn’t work” and hit the back butto... More About: General , Error , Battle , Regis
Color-Changing Auto Paint by Nissan
2007-11-12 19:48:00 Want a car like a chameleon? In three years you might be able to get just that. Nissan is developing a special technology using polymers limned with dyed iron oxides, which become visible when lit up with a carefully-measured charge. I guess different measurements give you different colours. Turned off, the car reverts to being it’s default, plain white. Great colours, I'd turn of this one to pay homage to my alumni - Calabar High School How cool is that eh? I will not even think evil and mention the benefits of this technology for when trying to evade the police, I’ll more think about having a different colour for each day of the week, or for my different moods, or to match my clothes! ^_^. Red, now this colour just makes the 350Z look even sexier [Via - Sci-fi Blog | Mobile Mag | Wired Blog ] More About: Color , Auto , Changing , Paint
Enjoying Xbox Live
2007-11-09 21:12:00 Microsoft is now a major player in the console gaming market, but they had to fight long and hard for the recognition. One area that they have made their name is in the area of online play. I give then top ratings for the Xbox Live experience and with games Like Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Gears of War, just to name a few; logging on for a couple hours each week is an experience I look forward to. I've been an Halo 3 addict since I got my hands on it, but it seems my addiction will have to wait a little because my 1 month free of Xbox Live Gold Membership expired on November 5 -_-. Shaggy Intoxication Album and Bonafide Girl Video
2007-11-07 17:31:00 Local and International entertainment news overflowing the news on Shaggy and his new album to be released on November 13th. Shaggy is a good entertainer and I've always preferred cheerful "gyall tunes" (as we'd say in Jamaica) than the negative, profanity laden, violent rubbish that the Jamaica music industry bit spitting out by the hundreds lately. Had to take the time to big up the positive. Check out the first video off the album, I must admit it's kind of shallow lyrically, but with a catchy hook sung by Rik Rok, a classic Jamaican beat and lots of beautiful ladies as eye candy how can you not like this song and video, especially for a party vibe. ..."sweet girl, your the only one for me the only one that has my heart, there's no need to stray our love is like a perfect work of art, ain't no need to loose your cool you really got to play it smart"... Jamaica's 2030 Vision and plan for Development
2007-11-04 18:55:00 Filing through all the negative news over the past couple days I heard multiple mentions of a new development plan for Jamaica. I’m glad that finally there are moves towards a national development plan. Jamaica continues to fall behind the rest of our Caribbean neighbours and the world with barely any growth in our economy each year. I’m hope that this plan is not derailed by political divisions and uncooperative people. I'll be following this issue closely in the months and years to come. Jamaica's 2030 Development Vision Article Excerpts Jamaica's 2030 Vision, which aims to catapult the island into developed country status by that year, is driven by a plan and an approach that is unique in Jamaica's history of developmental planning. The PIOJ Director General said that it would be the task of national leaders to "excite the people to join in working toward the ultimate objective of meeting the goal of developed country status by 2030". He said that already a lot of mater... More About: Plan

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 - First Impressions
More articles from this author:2007-11-01 01:39:00 So far I have watched the first 4 of 25 episodes expected in the first season of the latest Gundam Series. I have been excited about this new Gundam series for months and I wrote about it in June. Gundam Exia and it's pilot has yet to impress me The story is very Gundam-like and revolves around a private organization calling themselves Celestial Being using the power of advanced mobile suits called Gundams in their quest to end all wars. Also in typical Gundam fashion a simple story is complicated by a huge cast of characters and the viewer sees the progression of the Gundam 00 story through these various characters. The "Flag" Mobile Suit that wiped the shine off Exia It's a bit too early to say if I like Gundam 00 or not, but I do look forward to each episode and I have already found my favourite suit and pilot. I have always been a fan of the big, high damage dealing Gundams like Heavy Arms instead of the pretty, agile, and flamboyant types and so far it seems that Gundam V...
