View the Earth from Space in High Def thanks to Japan’s Lunar Exporer
2007-10-02 22:29:00
Less than a month after launch from the small island of Tanegashima off the southern tip of Kyushu Island, southern Japan , the Lunar Explorer “KAGUYA” has already started to beam back images and video of the earth. This media jumps into the record books as not only the farthest footage of Earth taken from deep space over 110, 000 km away from earth but also the first footage from space in high definition. The satellite was confirmed to be in good health through telemetry data received at the Usuda station. [ Via - JAXA ]

Christmas shopping help has arrived
2007-10-02 06:05:00
We are just beginning October but if you are smart (like me) you should already have you Christmas plans and gift ideas written down and planned for. Right now I am stockpiling cash in my paypal account, working hard to raise my limit on my secured credit card and staying on top of all deals, especially related to online shopping. This year I’ll probably be spending 90% of my gift buying income online and to ensure I get the best deals and coupons which will end up saving me a couple hundred bucks I have a secret weapon, that weapon is couponchief.com. I am already eying a notebook for my younger sister from Dell and I plan to get my Mom into the 21st century with an MP3 player from buy.com. That’s just my immediate family members shopping list but my tips to you are start planning, budgeting and shopping early and always check for and use coupons.

New anime I am looking forward to for Fall 2007
2007-09-30 20:27:00
The spring and summer anime season has come and gone leaving many memorable anime series for us anime fanatics to enjoy for a long time to come, but the anime machine over in Japan will not slow down and as expected will unload a plethora of new anime series this fall. Anime covers many genres, art styles and age groups so not all anime will be attractive to all anime fans so below I have chosen the top 5 series I am looking forward to personally and these are the series I am most likely to blog about. I still have numerous seasons I need to finish watching such as Bokurano, Heroic Age and Seirei no Moribito just to name a few, but who says I can’t jump into a few new series as well ^_^. Night Wizard I’ve only seen the trailer for Night Wizard and a few images over at the official site but it already has a few things I like in certain anime. Swords, magic, mythical creatures, decent animation and a beautiful female with an oversized weapon, I can’t wait. Dragonaut The Reson...

How the Pro-Democracy protests in Burma connect to Jamaica and Japan
2007-09-28 17:06:00
I rarely blog about such serious topics but it looks like the political situation in Burma (Myanmar) is getting worse and worse. Yesterday morning I woke up to news that Burmese nationals in Jamaica were protesting in front of various embassies and offices in Kingston. Embassies such as the Mexican Embassy, Chinese Embassy and even the local United Nations Office. Now this morning I wake up to news that a Japan ese journalist has been killed by Burmese soldiers and it was all caught on camera. As expected Japan is outraged, because video footage of the incident clearly shows the Japanese journalist named Kenji Nagai being shot at close range in the chest by a soldier. Still no action from the United States who has always claimed to do anything within it’s power to spread “democracy” across the world, in fact no major western power has done anything mainly because many of them support the military regime in Burma. All connections to the outside world via the internet has been cut o...

Portable Palm Cell Phone Jammer
2007-09-27 22:03:00
Cellular phones are one of the most useful inventions ever and in the last decade the cell phone explosion has been taking place all over the world especially in developing countries like Jamaica, while developed countries like Japan continue to use cell phones for so many activities that I think it is now a vital tool for “survival” in a modern world. Believe it for not, there is estimated to be about 2.7 million cell phones in Jamaica, that’s breaks down to about 1 cell phone for every man woman and child on the island! They were designed to go everywhere with the user, but what if you don’t want any near you? Say you are in a movie theatre, or on a bus, or in church and you are constantly bothered by ringing cell phones and chatter? I have found the perfect (silent) tool for you, a cheap, portable cell phone jammer! Would you buy one of these? [ Via - Gizmondo | Brando ]

Claymore Anime Review
2007-09-26 22:47:00
Let me start this review by stating that I am grossly upset at the way the claymore anime ended, but more on that later. About Claymore The anime takes place in a fictional world with a medieval, primitive setting. The human inhabitants of this world are constantly attacked by demon-like creatures called Youma who feed on their internal organs with special preference for their intestines. A secret organization was created to fight these creatures and protect humans. This organization creates special warriors by infusing the the flesh and blood of these monsters into the body of humans. This fusion creates warriors who share the superhuman strength and other powers of the vile, evil youma. The warriors of this unnamed organization are called Claymores, because of the large medieval blades they wield without much effort because of their special powers. Long ago Claymore warriors were all male but due to reasons explained in the anime it was decided that females were better suited to...

Heroes Season 2 premiere reactions
2007-09-25 18:31:00
The second season of Heroes premiered last night. I missed it on NBC, but luckily within a few hours I found it using an “alternative method”. What do I think of it? It starts with a bang, gets watered down in the middle and ends with the usual excellent cliffhanger that ensures you don’t lose interest in the series. Hiro is my favourite hero, but I didn’t like his performance in this episode and I hope he doesn’t get stuck in the role of comical relief in the series and get involved in some serious action as the show goes on. Clare topped the list of my least favourite heroes halfway through the first season but grew on me towards the end. I really hoped her role would have been more mature now but instead she restarts the whole high school girl, cheer leading, love interest, oh my god I just touched fire and broke my leg for no damn reason role. New characters, death, amnesia, a flying stalker and an English Gaijin sum up some of the other interesting bits. Who haven’t seen it...

Tokyo Game Show 2007 Cosplaying
2007-09-24 19:15:00
Aspiring cosplayers like myself look forward to events like TGS to get a peek into the country that invented the “hobby”. TGS 2007 didn’t disappoint and the cosplaying crowd was out in their numbers, unfortunately I am forced to just admire the costumes thousands of miles away via a computer screen but one day I will be there!!!!!!!! Here are pictures of some of my favourites from the show. Which one do you like? You can look forward to more cosplaying coverage and images in the newly created Cosplay section of the Jamaipanese.com Gallery. TGS 2007 has ended, no RE5 update but lots of other gaming goodies
2007-09-24 18:50:00
As expected the 2007 staging of the Tokyo Game Show was a resounding success with almost 200, 000 people passing through the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex in Chiba City Japan. There were so many games, so many trailers, so many announcements I cannot begin to start to go through them all, but, I’ll run through some of the important ones. Dual Shocking PS3 Sony has finally confirmed and showed off the new Dual Shock controllers for the Playstation 3. Personally I am disappointed with the current PS3 controller, its light, it looks bland and feels cheap so a hopefully heavier and sturdier Dual Shock controller is very welcomed. Nintendo Where Arth Thou? Not really “surprising” news as Nintendo has never been a huge supporter of TGS but after they used the show to show off the motion sensing controller for the then officially unnamed Wii console in 2005 some people were expecting a surprise from Nintendo seeing that they are riding high with their dual pronged D...

Jamaipanese.com 3.0, What do you think?
2007-09-23 21:46:00
Version 2.0 of Jamaipanese.com only lasted 6 weeks because it took forever to load, had a few coding glitches and was intended to be a temporary fix for display issues I was having in Internet Explorer. I have spent over 3 days working on and customizing this new theme for my blog and I am happy with the result, although there will be minor touch-ups here and there every now and again. I started with the SFX skin for Nucleus CMS and I customized the colours, fonts, columns, header and more into what it is now. I have also added a new smilie plugin to put a little more life into certain posts, they look cute and otakuish (no thats not a word) and cute. So there you have it, three columns, faster load times, simple/clean layout and super cute smilies. What do you think?

Heroic Age – lots of anime stereotypes and excellent CG
2007-09-19 05:45:00
As I write this I have only watched 12 of an estimated 26 episodes of this series. What are my thoughts? Do I like or hate it? What is Heroic age all about? Continue reading if you interested. The story for Heroic Age evolves around the powerful “Golden Tribe” who “summoned” three primitive races from the far reaches of the galaxy. These three races are the “Silver Tribe” – and arrogant group who are the most advanced of the lesser tribes, the “Bronze Tribe” an aggressive insect-like species who although it is unclear at this time seem to be under the command of the silver tribe and the “Iron Tribe” aka Humans, the most primitive of the tribes and enemies of the silver and bronze tribes. The anime starts with the princess of the iron tribe Deianeira traversing the far reaches of the galaxy looking to find her race’s savior or “Nodos” in order to tip the balance of power in the galaxy in their favor and to fulfill some long boring prophecy the most important parts of which is tha...

Special thanks to visitors who post comments
2007-09-18 23:14:00
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the visitors who post comments on my blog, especially those who do so regularly. I am currently brainstorming ideas on what I can do to show some appreciation to such persons who respond to posts on my blog. I have an idea for small fortnightly cash prizes payable via PayPal (if you don’t have a PayPal account get one now, its free) so that 2 lucky people per month who leave comments on Jamaipanese.com can have a few extra bucks to do whatever they want. I am open for other ideas for rewards but nothing that will break my flimsy wallet please ^_^. Leave your ideas in a comment or send me a message through my contact page.

JAXA being Privatized in order to qualify for Google Lunar X Prize?
2007-09-17 23:39:00
It seems that the Japanese government is planning to privatize the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) so that it will qualify and be in the running for Google and the X Foundations 30 million dollar worth of prizes for getting robotic rover on the Moon. Japan only last week launched a very publicized lunar orbiter from the small island of Tanegashima off the southern tip of Kyushu Island, southern Japan using the domestically developed H-2A rocket. I wonder if this will be official and how it will develop. Big thanks to Tori for pointing this out to me. [ Via - risingsunofnihon ]

The 46 Laws of Anime – every single one is True!

1. Law of Metaphysical Irregularity The normal laws of physics do not apply. 2. Law of Differentiated Gravitation Whenever someone or something jumps, is thrown, or otherwise is rendered airborne, gravity is reduced by a factor of 4. 3. Law of Sonic Amplification, First Law of Anime Acoustics In space, loud sounds, like explosions, are even louder because there is no air to get in the way. 4. Law of Constant Thrust, First Law of Anime Motion In space, constant thrust equals constant velocity. 5. Screw NASA, ESA, ROSCOMOS, JAXA and any other international government funded space exploration agency. Google (yes the one and only search giant) and the X Prize Foundation is giving away 30 million dollars worth of prizes to successful, privately funded companies who manage to get a robotic rover on the Moon that will complete several mission objectives, including roaming the lunar surface for at least 500 meters and sending video, images and data back to the Earth. Hmm I wonder if I could do all those things and land the millions. No…it will take at least 10 times that in research alone before anything leaves orbit. Bokurano - kids, a big robot and a Japanese city
2007-09-11 17:22:00
Bokurano is the surprise hit (at least with me) of the anime that were released in spring. I will admit that back then I didn’t have high hopes for this anime and jumped to conclusions from just looking on the poster. Can you blame me? There are kids, a big robot and a Japanese city in the background…no explanation necessary why I just scrolled by, but for the benefit of my non-otaku brethren I will explain…half of everything entertainment related that comes out of Japan especially anime has “kids a big robot and a Japanese city”…if not all these things at least 2 out of the three. Basically though it was a choice between the 3 series that caught my eye that featured big robots/machines/mechs and at the time it was between Heroic Age, Gigantic Formula and Bokurano. I ended up choosing the other two and left Bokurano out and now Heroic Age and Gigantic Formula (I will be blogging about them soon) are not living up to my expectations….so guess which anime I decided to give a chance?.....

It's no surprise who came out on top. From that post a few months ago till now I have moved up to a 5mb connection from Flow Jamaica, I am not rocking the fastest connection available but lets so how much faster the speeds in Jamaica will get.
