funk
2008-04-05 14:25:00 I’m in quite a funk lately. Spacey, depressed, lonely. I’m OVER sensitive to everything. Randy went out with the boys last night to get supplies for a banana split. Woodrow has been begging to have one and Randy decided last night was a good night to do it. The boys were excited to pick out sprinkles, cherries, and whipped topping. They picked a nice Chocolate Vanilla mix from Breyers. They brought it home and Randy was feeling a little sick, so I made the boys their sundaes. As summer approaches I am sinking quickly as the dairy allergy is in everything that says summer to me. Even crabs on the deck requires melted butter and beer. Making the sundaes for the boys last night depressed the hell out of me. I was even tearing up watching my three favorite people in the whole world enjoy an ice cream sundae because I wasn’t able to do it with them. Randy said “This has got to be terrible for you, because you love going out for ice cream.” Yup. Thanks for fi... More About: Funk

who needs another mouth to feed?
2008-04-02 20:47:00 A friend emailed out a dachshund video on youtube that is sooooooo my dog. Olie would flip for this. If you’ve met my dog you know he’s a wee bit OCD about playing fetch. I went to my local dog store because a friend told me that a certain dog toy had a lifetime guarantee that if your dog chews it up, (check) tore it apart (check) or just plays with it for well…forever and it’s falling apart that you can bring it back and they’ll replace it. So…I brought it in and they said oh can I see your receipt. I said why yes you can. I had just bought it six days before. Oooo you have quite a chewer is it a puppy? Nope. He’s five. Ooooo A pitbull? Nope. Dachshund with a knack for fetching and if you don’t throw the ball he chews it up. Oooooo. Maybe you should try this bitter apple spray. BWAHahaha. Uh huh. I spent that 8 dollars when he was 4 months old. You think it’ll work now. I laugh at you little teenage boy. You do not know the st... More About: Feed , Mouth
Personal space
2008-04-01 14:57:00 While I know being a mama is hard work I never expected to give up SO much personal space in the greatness that is motherhood. One of the things that Randy and I agreed on before we had kids was that no matter what I got to shower before he left for work. (He leaves most mornings by 8am so it’s not like he’s getting up at 4am to leave) Up until the past week or so it’s been fine. The boys play upstairs while Randy gets dressed and I shower. The last week or so they’ve been playing downstairs getting into EVERYTHING. Woodrow and Cooper have discovered how to climb chairs to reach things. W knew this but never really got into it because well there wasn’t much fun in doing something sneaky by yourself. Now that Coupe comes up with these grand ideas on how to get the chocolate cookies on top of the fridge there is REAL trouble. (right here in river city) Exhibit A from this morning: The accused: The real issue is the boys know that those 15 minutes that ... More About: Personal , Space
Fun two days
2008-04-01 13:49:00 I have had the most wonderful two days. Sunday I got to sleep in, take a long hot shower, get dressed and go out to lunch and shopping with my mom. Alone. Without any climbing on anything or tugging on my shirt to go home. It was great. We spent most of the afternoon shopping and I came home to two boys in great moods. Somehow Randy can get them to nap. I have yet to learn his secret. We watched a movie together as a family (the boys watched all but the last 15 minutes!). We popped popcorn and relaxed. It was great. Yesterday one of our close friends got tickets to opening day at Camden Yards. The game was at 3pm but we had to meet him at 2pm..so we headed to Baltimore around 1pm. My parents watched the boys for us all day long. I came home to a very clean house, the dishes done and put away, the laundry folded, the boys in bed. It was bliss. I sat on the couch all evening with my husband watching Dexter on Neflix. Today I’m back on the job..but it’s so nice to have a cl... More About: Days

2008-03-29 16:02:00 My new favorite cookie (that comes out of a package and not my oven). They make an awesome peanut butter cookie that is YUM-O. The rice pasta was ‘eh. I like the spiral rice pasta but for some reason the spaghetti ’style’ pasta is just not good. Besides anything called spaghetti style can’t be all that good can it? Randy of course has loads to say on this subject and is appalled that I even serve this stuff to our family. (the boys love the rice pasta heck I could give them any type of spiral pasta and they would gobble it up) The only person complaining about the rice pasta is Randy. My response to that is “Go make your own damn dinner then.” I refuse to make 2 dinners. One for me and one for them. The boys eat (for the most part) what I make for them…so my darling husband you are the odd man out. More About: Food , Post

I think I might die now
2008-03-26 13:46:00 Two things. I had a dream last night that I was pregnant. This scares for many reasons. (not in the dreams are real and you should expect to wake up pregnant) In the way where you dream about being pregnant and completely freaking out. I am not scared of pregnancy or even of popping out another baby. I’m scared of driving it home from the hospital and taking care of it. Need I say more? Two kids, two arms. I have more than I can handle now. It doesn’t seem to help that my body is on constant hormonal overdrive. I swam, biked and ran yesterday. I worked out for 1.5 hours and it took my body a LONG time to recover. My legs felt like jello for the better part of the evening. I do however feel nice and trim this morning. I’m itching to go shopping for some new summer clothes. I’m still feeling a little foolish for signing up for this triathlon especially since I’ll probably be the slowest person there…hoping to hit the pool again sometime today. ...
Neighborhood Easter Egg hunt
2008-03-25 13:12:00 We walked to the easter egg hunt on Saturday morning as it started hailing and sleeting. The flyer said rain or shine so we went for it. We were meeting Randy as Woodrow had soccer until 10:45am. Cooper and I walked to the field and met our new neighbors as we walked and talked. Cooper saw the easter bunny standing there and freaked out. He said ‘bunny hop a-w-ay.’ hop away hop away. He was so upset..but once he saw all the eggs in the field he calmed down and concentrated. He found and captured eggs with gusto and even shared an egg he found with another little girl. We met a neighbor that is moving in this week who is moving into the house that we looked at before this one. We talked about the house and how lucky they were for getting such a great deal. (that house has been on the market a LONG time) They are moving from NYC and into this neighborhood so they said they feel like they are moving into the middle of nowhere. Well…it’s not that BAD. Easter
2008-03-25 13:03:00 We had a great Easter . The boys went crazy when they saw all the eggs that the Easter bunny hid. Randy’s family hides the Easter basket as well as an added treat (does anyone else do this? Really..please speak up because we actually argued about the silliness that is the hidden easter basket) This was our first year where we went all out. Chocolate, jelly beans, malted milk balls. The whole sha-bang. Woodrow ate a healthy Easter dinner..but I think the only non-sugar substance I got into Cooper on Easter was a dinner roll. We got back on track yesterday…no candy for you. Thankyouverymuch. I am the mama. Easter is but once a year. We got a monster Easter package from Randy’s aunt up in Pennsylvania and the boys found their all time favorite Easter gift. This is the closest the boys will get to a toy gun. They love this bubble shooter. We spent most of the day outside filling, shooting and running with these bubble shooters. They LOVED them and Olie got a nice bub...
Workout update
2008-03-22 14:07:00 I finally hit 7.5 miles on a stationary bike this week. I can do 7.5 miles in 30 minutes for this. This whole time I’ve been training with the thought in mind that it was 20 minutes on the bike and 30 minutes on the treadmill….nope. Have to rework my circuit. Thanks for telling me Jessica…I’m somewhat relieved as I thought 30 minutes on the treadmill would kill me (after the pool and the bike) I’m hitting the pool this month A LOT and hoping that I can improve my time and effort in the pool. It really wears me out and riding the bike right after swimming laps is exhausting. I’ve tried to do the full circuit (pool, bike, treadmill) and by the time I run on the treadmill I can only run for 8-9 minutes before I start walking. April 13th is creeping up faster than I’d like it to. More About: Workout , Update

2008-03-22 13:51:00 Before we even started someone was bored… Randy got home LATE last night so we had a quick dinner and started coloring eggs close to bedtime. Following his own technique…he was soo done even before we started. Cooper was more interested in the taste of the coloring crayon than the eggs… I did happen to get one good shot of W though. We are off to our first neighborhood easter egg hunt. The kick off of the easter candy frenzy has begun. Send reinforcements, I might need them sooner rather than later. More About: Eggs
another day at the zoo
2008-03-20 20:51:00 We had a great day today at the zoo. Another fun day with few crowds and running little boys. I’m almost excited to spend the rest of the day alone with these guys while Randy works late and spends the evening with his sister. Besides it’s only three hours till bedtime…right?! He gripped onto that popcorn bucket since the second he got it. Cooper was willing to share the popcorn with NO ONE. Checking out the big stingrays. Telling me ALL about the big fish.

our month long vacation
2008-03-19 14:43:00 We have a huge US map in our extra bedroom laid out..we finally planned out our trip. Highlights will be Denver, Yellowstone/Tetons, Chicago, Minneapolis, the Badlands in South Dakota, and lots of little dives in between DC and Yellowstone. We’ll probably go South first and then hit Chicago last. We have yet to work out all the kinks but our reservations are made in Yellowstone so we are ON. I’m soooo looking forward to this trip. A month away, a month with my husband and two kids wandering the US together. Camping, hiking, fishing, playing. We’ll be spending most nights in a tent together. I’m hoping after the first two nights the boys will just crash. The first two nights will suck..as they giggle, wrestle and play their way to sleep. While I know it won’t always be peaches and cream, I’m hoping that it will be an adventure we’ll never forget (or at least one that Randy and I won’t ever forget). With twists and turns that we’l... How would that work?
2008-03-17 17:51:00 Conversations from this morning: Woodrow: Mommy I want a big sister? me: what? W: I want a big sister, right now. me: um…it doesn’t work like that. Your a big brother to Cooper and you can’t have a big sister. Do you mean a sister or a little sister? W: No. Big sister now. me: Sorry honey but I can’t give you a big sister. Your the big brother. If we have another child *which we won’t* you’d be the big brother, cooper would be the big brother and the 3rd child would be your little sister or brother. W: No mommy. I WANT A BIG SISTER. me: It ain’t happening Woody. W: oooo *stomps away* I’m sad, it’s a sad day. More About: Work
Great weekend
2008-03-17 13:49:00 Saturday we went to the American Indian Museum and hit National History as well. The boys had a great, great time! They loved both museums and the highlight of the AI museum was the fountain outside. Could Randy get a closer parking spot? I think not. Yet another reason I love love love my husband Sunday came quickly and the day flew by and we tried to get everyone out of the house on time. Randy’s action shot I’m on the far left (#1515) Right after the race (I was soooo cold!) We stayed to watch the St. Patrick’s day parade…. and to give a nice long one finger salute to our favorite person in Maryland. and no it’s not to the hippie there…. Overall it was a good weekend. I slept for 10 hours last night and I’m feeling great today. Thank you all for the congratulations last night. It made my morning. For those that asked, this was my first 5k and I’m looking forward to doing the next one in May. More About: Great , Weekend

it’s just that easy
2008-03-15 13:00:00 We are hitting the National Museum of the American Indian today and I’m so excited. We’ve been wanting to go downtown to see it for sometime now and while Randy has gone several times I haven’t yet stepped into the building. It’s one thing to go to a museum with your family and enjoy yourself it’s another thing to go a museum that your husband is excited about sharing with you. It’s fun to have an architect as a husband when you have all those annoyingly dumb questions about plaster, cement and rock and how the structure fits into the grand scheme of the environment. My 5k Race is tomorrow. It was exciting to see all the folks lined up to get their packets yesterday and to bump into Jessica. I’m excited about running and thrilled to be part of something bigger. Oh…have you checked out my Celiac page? I’m trying to raise some money for Celiac research right here in Maryland. I’ll be running for the center in May. Wanna joi... More About: Easy

2008-03-11 13:50:00 I have a 5k race/run on Saturday so I’m keeping busy working out at night and keeping my house in order (or at least trying to!). My sister has surgery tomorrow so I’m anxious and nervous about that…so keep your fingers crossed for her that everything goes well. The boys finished up their art class and their gymnastics class yesterday. They did very well yesterday and mama was so proud. I have lots of pictures to edit and share but no time to edit them. So…they will have to wait. Go see what Xander’s mama posted here about it. Off to help Cooper who has been hacking up a lung since last friday. Poor little guy.
clearing things up…
2008-03-10 03:08:00 This post is not to say that I’m happy. I’ve been VERY depressed after my allergist told me that whey is why I have been so sick the last year or so. If you aren’t sure what whey is. Go here. My favorite line in that article is this: “Whey is used to produce ricotta and brown cheeses and many other products for human consumption. It is also an additive in many processed foods, including breads, crackers and commercial pastry, and in animal feed.” So basically anything yummy = whey product. The past two weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions for me. I think great, now I can eat anything growing out of the ground or off a tree…and any type of beef or chicken as long as I make it. *sigh* While it’s very comforting to hear my friends tell me ” think of how heart healthy your eating.” That’s not exactly what I want to hear when all I want is a bag of m&m’s or a pan pizza or to stop somewhere and grab something t... Miracles
2008-03-10 02:34:00 When you lose hope and think why in the hell would God make me allergic to whey AND dairy products?! I get a phone call from a friend. She went through IVF for 2 of her 3 kids. The third child was conceived five months after her second child was born. Completely out of the blue…a shocker. WOW she tells me..what are the odds of that. We both go through IVF and we both have HOLY MOLY we got pregnant on our own. Why did we not play the powerball that month? She calls me today…sixteen months after giving birth to her third child. She’s been on birth control pills for 13 months. She’s pregnant AGAIN. Holy Moly I said. She is delighted to have another child. Shocked, but delighted. She’s amazed that after all that work she got two children on her own. If someone told me in early 2004 that by January of 2006 I would have two children I would have laughed in their face. I also would have thought that I had twins on my hands. I truly believe that it is my des... More About: Miracles

boys and crying
2008-03-07 13:48:00 When I hear my husband say ‘Your a big boy, big boys don’t cry’ it makes me want to slap him silly. I get that his dad told him that and his dad’s dad told him that. I get that men see their 16 year old boys crying in a therapist chair and cringing. I don’t want our son to be a ‘crier’ either…but come on. My kids are 3 and 2. Toddlers cry. Kids cry. Mama cries. It’s life. When he’s 13-14 you can tell him big boys don’t cry. For now let’s let them work it out themselves. I’m sure it will. This mornings episode started last night…while I was at the gym Randy left Woodrow in underwear overnight and put him in bed. Thinking…why not. Well….we woke up at 5am with loads of laundry to do and a very upset little boy. He was upset his pillow was wet and that we would have to put it in the washer. It was like someone was stabbing him in the back. How dare I wash his sheets, his comforter and his... More About: Boys , Crying
lovely, good, great even
2008-03-07 02:47:00 Today was a great day. Even with the kids on the edge of a major illness we had a great fun day. We spent most of the morning making animals out of playdoh and going for a LONG walk. The boys were in curious interesting moods where they asked about everything on the path, all the bugs, rocks, dirt in the walk way. Woody was telling us stories about how the big rocks got in the ground and wishing it was warmer out so we could play in the swimming pool. This was one of those days where my heart melted. I was happy to be a mother to two curious fun little boys. They were sweet, tender and caring. I want more days like this. It was wonderful to have the playground all to ourselves and to let Olie wander around with us without worrying about other dogs or humans around. Have I mentioned how much I love our new home? I love the location, I love the neighborhood. I love how quiet it is. IT IS SO QUIET. It took a good month to get use to that. I love that I can sit on my sun deck and co... Art class
2008-03-03 18:16:00 My parents are in sunny, quiet, beautiful Florida. Enjoying the sunset on the water, watching the dolphins swim in the canal, taking trips on the boat. Oh how I miss them. I miss vacations. Quiet vacations. I experienced my first art class with my two little angels. It was the nightmare I imagined it would be. Complete with Cooper scaring a little girl so much that she cried the entire 45 minutes we were there. We basically have assigned seats and the woman that normally sits across from us brought her friends…so there was 3 of them to one child while I had two little maniacs with me alone. It was chaotic. Oh and did I mention the woman across from me can’t be any older than oh…25. So her friends were closer to 21-22…very young. *sigh* They couldn’t help but laugh at the paint, glue and glitter all over me, my boys or the floor. Thanks. More articles from this author:2008-03-03 02:54:00 Olie who is our five year old dachshund, has been asking to go outside a lot today. I thought maybe the boys fed him some cheese or something abnormal…so right before the sun went down I went to investigate what he was up to in the backyard. You see we have a pretty good sized back yard and it’s fenced so he can roam do his business and I don’t have to worry about him. *this I like* I go outside and see Olie had knocked the grill over and was inside the grill licking the grate. HOW IN THE WORLD?! How did a 20lb dachshund knock the grill over? What a clever, sneaky, HUNGRY dog. I wish I brought my camera with me to get the shot of him inside the grill…. Silly dog. I drag him back inside and clean up the mess. Olie comes inside and does his growl/moan *I’m pissed at you sigh* and I say oh Olie quit it. Woodrow says why is Olie growling?
