I love this kid
2008-05-31 19:38:00 Cooper is helping me pack today while Randy and Woody finish up the funeral arrangements. Cooper is always so happy. Our power went out for two hours earlier and he was just happy to watch me run around and hit on his drum. More About: Love
For the love of my life
2008-05-30 18:45:00 As we remember your sister this week, I think of how strong, loving, gentle and sincere you are. At my lowest low you are there to make me whole. At my highest high you are celebrating right beside me. You have always been there for me and for all your family and friends. You are the glue that holds us all together. Happy seventeen years* to us. My love, my husband, my everything. *We had our first date June 5, 1991.* More About: Life , Love , My Life
the tent
2008-05-26 14:19:00 Randy and I have two tents. A four person tent and an 7-9 person tent. We are bringing both on our trip. The smaller one for the quick one night camp set up, the bigger one for the 2+ night set ups. I tried to set up the 7-9 person tent by myself and it did not work out for me. I felt like a tiny woman trying to conquer this huge mountain and while I wanted to complete it, it was impossible to do alone. Randy and I set it up in 55 minutes together. It was a big project but well worth it as I think it’ll be a great tent for Yellowstone, Badlands and the Rocky Mountains. The boys and I were sitting in the tent and I finally asked Randy about his thoughts on food while we camp. (he’s been avoiding this question since Christmas!) He said I don’t know. We’ll cook dinner and find other food around. Uh huh. Where? on bushes and trees? He said no, we’ll go somewhere. uh huh. Where? I knew I was getting on his nerves we had to talk about this. I needed to k... More About: Tent
Opening day
2008-05-26 14:04:00 Randy and I were eagerly awaiting opening day at our neighborhood pool. We knew that the sun, water and sheer excitement of the pool would wear the boys out enough that we might actually get a nap out of one or BOTH of them. We got the boys ready and heading out to the pool. It’s an easy 3 minute walk from our house. (truly a fantastic thing about our house) We check in, have a photo taken for the pool membership cards. Walk into the baby pool area and before I can stop him, Cooper walks right into the baby pool. Shoes and all. Lands head first in the water and sits up and laughs. Luckily it was deep enough that he didn’t hurt himself and to be honest I should have seen it coming as the boy has no fear of ANYTHING. Woody on the other hand took 1.5 hours before he would even poke his feet in the water. He was playing catch with the kids in the pool without getting in the pool. Finally he got in the water when Randy and I both were standing up in the baby pool. W got in an... More About: Opening
trip
2008-05-24 14:27:00 We leave on our adventure Friday evening. FRIDAY. I still can’t believe that six months of planning have finally arrived. Our first stop will be Mammoth Caves in Kentucky. We’ve booked a guided tour that is 90 minutes long and .75 miles deep into the caves. We booked it at 8:45am so I’m hoping we’ll be lucky and the boys will be in great moods that morning. We’ll be camping at the Caves. Then we drive to St. Louis. A long hike from Kentucky, but you have to get west somehow. We booked an AWESOME hotel in St. Louis. *thank you priceline* We then set our sights to the west and hit the Great Sand Dunes National Park. If you only click on one link in this post click on this one. This place looks awesome. We’ll be camping here. I hope the weather is nice and I want to explore the sand dunes with the boys and I’m sure Woody will be busy here moving the sand from one spot to the other. Next we hit Rocky Mountain National Park. Just the pictures of ... More About: Trip
Headache
2008-05-23 22:36:00 When you wake up with a headache and it never seems to go away through out the day…that’s the kind of day I’m having today. Complete with screaming, yelling toddlers who won’t stop hitting each other. Complete with mean little girls at the park who actually make W cry. (what’s up with that?!) Complete with cries for pizza and ice cream. Is it 7pm yet? I’m so ready for this day to be over so I can crawl into bed. Off to referee another fight and hope that the sun will set as quickly as possible. By the way: I meant to mention in the last post…my SIL has been arrested 3 times for assault on my MIL and has been to rehab. So has my MIL (been to rehab I mean..I have no idea if she’s been arrested) Thank you for your concern and emails. More About: Headache
Love Abuse Anger
2008-05-23 14:56:00 I can’t seem to hold this in any longer. My heart has been hurting for quite some time now, for a family member who I’m not sure how or what I can do to help her. She’s in an abusive relationship. Not with her husband but with her daughter. I’ve had some serious disagreements with my mother back in the day. I’ve never felt the need to hit, scratch, injure or physically abuse my mother. Of course, my father never hit my mother, my grandfather never hit his wife. My husband comes from a family where hitting, scratching, screaming are all the norm. I did not. When I first met Randy and he got excited about something and would raise his voice I would cringe. My parents did not yell. EVER. Well….unless it was at me or my sister for doing something insanely dumb. I can not remember a single instance when my father yelled, screamed or even raised his voice at my mom. Yes, my mom would yell at my dad. “David do this, David don’t do that... Patapsco State Park
2008-05-15 14:54:00 It was a great day yesterday so we set out to a state park. We had a great time. We conquered a 2 mile hike without mommy carrying ANYONE. woohoo! Woody was asking all kinds of questions like: Where do rocks come from? How did they get here? Why did the earth leave them here? Why do trees fall down? Bugs live there? ewww. Why? More random W-isms: Let’s hide the acrons so the squirrels can’t get them. Wanna run Cooper? Let’s run and jump in the creek. (we were literally looking down on a creek about .5 mile below and it was a steep drop and I was scared to death that they would actually jump together.) I grabbed them and moved them along. I’m tired mommy I’m going to nap on this rock. All better, awake, awake, awake. We can eat crackers now and watch the birds. All while singing twinkle twinkle little star to help the birds sleep. Throwback Thursday - May 1992
2008-05-15 14:44:00 First thing Randy told me after we had left my parents house: “your hair, wow, it’s curly.” He hated my hair. I should have known…he fears change. I remember having a good time at prom (not great as my beloved does not dance and he has no rhythm whatsoever) We stayed out way to late and had quite an adventure the next morning. Other than that memories of prom were pretty good. Besides the fact that someone’s date who did not go to our school wore the SAME dress as I did. Yes. I remembered. Randy reminded me again, how much he must have loved me to wear a pink bow tie in front of our entire class. Yes I know my fingers are freakishly long….thank god I have a wedding ring now to distract folks from staring at them. More About: Throwback , Thursday

huh?
2008-05-13 19:57:00 While search for camping sleeping mats I find this. Huh? Here I thought dog strollers were ridiculous. This is listed as a sleeping bag for your dog. Now that’s just crazy. If your wondering…Olie will be spending the month of June with my parents. Maybe I can talk Melinda into a journal of Olie’s adventures with Buddy.
The long and short of it
2008-05-08 01:54:00 Take a guess who enjoyed the sprinkler more from the following pictures… My dog loves the sprinkler. Throw the ball into it, he’ll jump over it, he’ll run through it…whatever. He’s all over it. The boys were a little iffy about the whole thing but eventually they both came around. It’s been one heck of a long day…and we still have to finalize our plans for Dayton, OH and Pittsburgh, PA…and then we’ll be all done planning our month long trip. WOOHOO. More About: Long , Short
how have I lived so long without you?
2008-05-07 21:29:00 How in the world did I live without my TomTom? I typed in the park we went to this morning, got in the car after our adventure and asked the boys where they wanted to go for lunch, they said Burger King, typed it into TomTom, it gave me the closest 15 locations, hit navigate and we were off. For my run on Sunday I used TomTom to help me navigate through the city streets and my favorite thing about this gadget is that even if I stray from the route it will re-route me and start from where I am and get me to my destination. LOVE THAT. I am always thinking that the road is this left and end up all turned around and 2 miles further away than I should be…so in the days where the gas stations are charging $3.85 a gallon, I seriously love my TomTom…if for nothing else that I’ll save a little bit of gas from seeping out of my 22 gallon tank. If you haven’t guessed already dh and I are BOTH gadget fanatics. We like new gadgets and if we have an excuse to buy one we ... More About: Long , Lived
A hiking we will go…
2008-05-07 20:53:00 I finally got my Seneca trail maps from the DNR in Maryland. So…this morning we hit the trails….at first I was going to ease them into it by going to Great Falls or some place close by to a trail and introduce them to hiking but once I saw some of the trails in Seneca I decided to go for it. We parked near the playground, played for 20 minutes and then set down the trail. (an easy trail at .5 miles RT) We talked about the trail markers and how we have to stay on the trail and be VERY careful where we walk. The boys were fascinated by all the plants, bugs and especially the tracks that other people/animals made on the trails. We stopped and found deer tracks, dog tracks, ants, spiders and lots of other bugs along the way. Woody was not thrilled with all the flying bugs around but he said that he would hike again. I said oh good…because you have at least 3 weeks of hiking ahead of you in June. I’m hoping to hit Patapsco Valley State Park tomorrow or Frida... More About: Hiking
Run, run, plop
2008-05-07 14:37:00 I had a great race on Sunday. The weather was fantastic, the folks, the samples (oh man GF EVERYWHERE even donuts and bagels!!) but the trail for the run…not so great. FULL of hills, valleys and more steep hills. When I thought Federal Hill had a hill boy was I wrong. Yeah not so much. The hill down Boston street going up to Ellwood is much worse and is a horrible, mean way to end a race. Seriously. My time was a minute better than my last race but I was really huffing it up that last hill and didn’t think I would make it to the finish line. I’m pretty sure I could have ran it much faster if it wasn’t for those damn hills. We did get a lovely view of the water in Canton from that big ass hill we climbed up and I did get to run through Patterson Park which was lovely…but it wasn’t worth the hills. The hills sucked. Ask Melinda, she’ll back me up on that one. This will be last race of this season and I’ll be looking for another 5k to d...

Family
2008-05-05 23:56:00 Aunt Wanda came to visit us and we all got together on Saturday to celebrate Aunt Vickie’s birthday. Here is all the Williams women (none of us have this name so I feel comfortable throwing it out there) From left to right: Ashleah, Aunt Vickie, Aunt Wanda (in front) my mom, Melinda and me. Me, my mom and my sister. It was a good day. Beautiful outside and the boys behaved for close to 3 hours! (the last twenty minutes were a little dicey there but all turned out well.) and then there are mamas who just get it
2008-05-05 23:51:00 One of the neighbors across from us who I’ve been waving too but have never spoken too…saw me on the path as we were walking back from park no. 3 today, she came running up to me and says “I’m so happy I caught up with you…it’s a lovely evening wanna come over for drinks tonight?” I said…um…okay. She said “oh I’m Sara, your Kara right? It’s so great to meet you. All of us thought you had twins there but now that I see your kids they are what 16 months apart? They are cute. See you around 6ish? Great. See you then!” I nodded and she ran after her kids. I think I’m going to like this mama.
Motherhood
2008-05-02 14:59:00 Why do moms do this to each other? I know that most of them do it to make themselves feel better. Or they think something and it just runs like diarrhea out their mouths. Since we moved into our new home in December I’ve been trying to meet as many neighbors as I can. I’ve joined our local neighborhood moms group. I’m meeting lots of new and interesting people. With all the meeting and greeting I have to go through the whole ‘how far apart are you kids? oh my 12 months really? Oh dear.’ *pointy fingers* Oh hi “Kristen says your kids are 12 months apart, here I thought mine were to close at 18 months.” Those comments do not bother me…if my kids were 22 months, 2 years, or even 18 months apart I would probably say or think the same thing if someone said their kids were 12 months apart. Yesterday we were standing at the park watching our kids and I met two new mamas. Both of their kids were 18 months old. Just toddling around being extra... More About: Motherhood
our trip
2008-04-28 05:01:00 We made a game plan for our big trip in June and I have a LOT of reservations to make. I need help figuring out how to organize all this information. I have a calendar set up with where we are, what we are doing there and where we need to be the next day. For example: Day 6 in St. Louis, drive to Sand Dunes NP 11am check in. Day 7 Sand Dunes NP Day 8 Sand Dunes NP Day 9 Sand Dunes NP leave check in at Fossil Beds NP Day 10 Fossil Beds NP leave check in at Rocky Mountain NP All of these places are in different states/different maps, different campgrounds. I started doing a folder for each state with the check in/data/maps we need for each state but how do I organize all this stuff?! We have 31 days planned out. AND the days in Yellowstone, Chicago and the Badlands have specific times and activities listed that we have to reserve the week/month before. HELP! Any ideas how to keep this all straight? Do I keep the folder system going and buy a folder organizer to keep in the car? Do I k... More About: Trip
the dawgs
2008-04-27 17:39:00 The day wasn’t all bad. I did get to mop/clean/scrub every hard surface in my house and garage. So my house smells lemon fresh. There was a lot of standing and growling. A lot of sad looks from Olie but at least I got to catch with Tom Colicchio. The best part was I was alone in the house for at least 4 hours yesterday and it was terrific.
what a ride
2008-04-26 17:52:00 My parents dropped off their 70lb dog at my house 15 minutes ago. My dog won’t stop barking, growling and peeing. WHICH makes Buddy (the 70lb dog) Pee all over my house to reciprocate the ‘threat’ that Olie is giving out as he pees. Please.send.reinforcements.NOW. Randy just left with the boys to run errands so a lovely two hours alone with the dogs will probably not be as peaceful as I hoped. More About: Ride

A letter
2008-04-23 15:22:00 Dear Ovaries, While I appreciate your timeless these days in keeping my uterus on a tight schedule. I’m not at all use to having monthly reminders of your presence. Thank you for finally making me a 28 day girl after 33 years. Seriously 5 years ago (and you know BEFORE the 2 years on fertility drugs and two cycles of IVF) this would have been prefect timing for us…but now after two babies the timing is not so great. If you think your going to find some action by giving me the opportunity to create another little boy your mistaken. I have no interest in creating another life. Taking care of another human being may just send me over a very tall cliff. I do appreciate the constant reminders that I do not have a little girl in my life, as the constant cramping and moaning from you aches not only my body but my heart. I get it. You want a girl. I do not. Get over it. I am. Sincerely, The one in control-K Dear Digestive system, Thank you for a lovely year. We’ve gone th... More About: Letter

Thank you
More articles from this author:2008-04-08 13:42:00 Thank you all for the well wishes. I’ve had a nice couple of days spending most of my time with the boys and enjoying what’s around me. Woodrow and I had a good three hour chuck of time alone together yesterday and I really enjoyed every minute of it. He is a sweet, caring, loving little boy. Woody took about 120 pictures yesterday as I let him go wild with my camera. He had a blast and I hope to create a portfolio for him on my Picasa account. We also spent most of the time together making people and animals out of play doh and acting out what they would do together. This all made me realize how lucky I really am. The boys woke up WAY to early this morning coughing and with runny noses. (Isn’t it suppose to be Spring?) Crazy Maryland weather. I’m hoping to hit a CVS this morning which means a quick stop to Starbucks is in order considering it’s right next store and has a HUGE counter for the boys to watch them make coffee.
