Going downhill
2007-06-05 19:00:00 Well today started well enough. Sun was shining, Richard treated me to a bacon bagel, my morning smoothie woke me up and I was still elated following last nights gig.I decided to get my hair cut and the day went down hill from there. To start with my request was simple enough: grade 1 sides with a trim. Sadly the barber was more interested in telling me about his move to London rather than paying attention. I now have a very short hair cut and I hate it.I returned back to the office to an unpleasant scene and within 5 minutes wondered what I was doing there.A 'chat' here and a 'meeting' there soon left me royaly fucked off. My whole day had been turned on it's head within a matter of minutes. Now I am heading home wondering why I got out of bed this morning. The prospect of two days away with the team doesn't make me too happy. At least the weekend will arrive sooner. More About: Going , Goin
Kings Cross (eyed)
2007-06-04 22:19:00 What an excellent night. The Pet Shop Boys at the BBC were superb.I was lucky enough to be right up the front where the view was amazing. The newly refurbished BBC radio theatre is an Art Deco jewel.Once again Neil and Chris were on form and everything seemed much clearer than Hammersmith. Additional numbers include Being Boring (which once again nearly made me weep) and Kings Cross which I don't think I have ever heard them perform live. If you have access to BBC Radio 2 online, listen out for Saturdays broadcast of the concert at 9pm.Going on my own was a little daunting but I have to say hi to the couple from Blackpool and Lee who I have never met before but recognised 'Trunk Guy' from my voice from my pod casts! Green Men, Queershires and Buzzards
2007-06-03 17:38:00 I am starting to feel much better, thankfully my cold appears to be on it's way out now... I still have a headache, a slight sore throat and am a bit bunged up but believe me I am much better than I was last week.We had a quiet day yesterday, choosing to take it easy at home.Richard tried his hardest to get me to agree to go to the Suffolk coast today but I am sure he realises that I wasn't in the mood to go as I still wasn't feeling 100%. Plus it's a 2 and a half hour drive when the traffic is in your favour. So we went to a local Pub which was first introduced to us by Ben where we had a lovely Sunday lunch. The weather until now has been lovely and sunny. It was great to sit in the large pub conservatory and look out over the Hertfordshire/Bedforshire countryside.Afterwards we headed into Knebworth and then into Welwyn Garden City for a browse around and an afternoon tea. I honestly don;t think I have been back there since I left my job in the NHS several years ago. It's ... More About: Green , Queers
OMG PSB again!
2007-06-01 18:51:00 Guess who has won himself a ticket to the re-opening concert at the BBC Radio theatre on Monday night? And guess which famous pop duo will be performing?Yes (well the title gave it away)...I have secured myself a ticket to see PSB at the BBC on Monday night. I am a little dissappointed that there is onyl one ticket - I would have liked to have taken Richard or Steve. After some initial concerns and nerves about going on my own I realise I'd be mad not too - looks like there will be even more PSB chat to come!Let me know if you are going too - maybe we could meet up!
No Free Papers
2007-06-01 08:13:00 Last Friday when I left Blackfriars Station to walk the three minute journey to my office I was besieged by nine people trying to give me free newspapers and supplements.Am I the only one who is getting really tired of this? The people block entrances and exits. They stand in the middle of corridors and pavements and some have taken to thrusting papers into my hand.So far I have been polite and simply say no thank you but my patience is wearing thin.I am also hacked off because the people who do read these papers readily discard them on the train/tubes or leave them hanging out of bins. I guess because they are free people don't' feel obliged to take them home or dispose of them properly.I know the paper companies try to promote recycling but why not simply stop producing these wafer thing pieces of propaganda? When do you find a rubbish bin in Central London it's always full to the brim so where are we supposed to dispose of them?So with this in mind I came up with the idea ... More About: Free , Papers

2007-05-28 11:51:00 I didn't think the Thetford PSB show could be bettered but I was wrong.Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe put on an electric night of electronic music! The Hammersmith Apollo was jumping all night - from the opening bars of God Willing/We're the Pet Shop Boys to the finale of So Hard/Go West. This was an amazing gig and an excellent evening.I think it'll take Steve and I some time to come back down to earth...Between us we managed quite a collection of photos - a bit blurry due to all the dancing but we were close enough to the front to give you the idea...Read Steve's perspective here... Sleepy but Wild Animals
2007-05-27 10:30:00 We visited Whipsnade Zoo yesterday with Richard's sister and family. I have not been to a zoo in years but not much changes - all the animals huddle together out of view! Just as well I went prepared with a large zoom lens :0)It was nice to see the children's reactions to the animals though.Tonight will feature a different set of animals as Steve and I are off to see the Pet Shop Boys, oh we're so Flamboyant! ;0) More About: Animals , Wild , Wild Animals
Turfalgar Square
2007-05-24 19:25:00 Until Sunday Trafalgar Square is covered in grass creating a temporary park in the middle of London. Of all the schemes dreamt up for Trafalgar Square, this has to be one of my favourites. It looks like it's going to be a busy weekend, bit of a shame really as it's been a hell of a week! As well as my usually duties I have also been setting up a major team event at the beginning of June. It's virgin territory for me but it's fun nonetheless. Whilst searching for venues I have been to places in London I never knew existed (and as I am planning it I have made sure it's in Central London). We're off to a fab new location on the river - I get to meet with the team there tomorrow to finalise details.Richard's sister and family are paying a visit for the Bank Holiday weekend. It should be interesting, Richard still has the scar from last years visit (quite literally!).Sunday I am off to Hammersmith Apollo with Steve to see the Pet Shop Boys in concert. Even though we saw them... More About: Turf
What a weekend!
2007-05-22 18:42:00 This weekend in Cheshire with Andy and Rob was lovely. We had such a lovely relaxing time, I am really glad we paid them a visit. From the moment we arrived they made us feel very welcome and we all took ther weekend as it came, relaxing and laid back. There were no grand plans for the weekend but we did end up at Jodrell Bank and Tatton Park. Rob even let us play with his Raclette Set ;0)Watch my video of the main astronomic radio telescope moving to line up with the Earth's Axis (this is the third largest telescope in the world). A bevvy of photo's are on Flickr (in three separate sets... Cheshire, Jodrell Bank and Tatton Park). It's been a while since I have uploaded anything, find out all about the last two weeks in Trunk Cast 92. More About: Weekend
Luv2H8
2007-05-17 21:07:00 OK so we're off for the weekend. Before we go I want to share this fab playlist set up I have created for my iTunes/iPod. Basically it lets me listen to my favourite and least played tracks of the same artist:1) Create a new Smart Playlist with Artist as (i.e. Prince) + My Rating "is greater than" *** - call it +Prince2) Create another new Smart Playlist with Artist as "Prince" + Play Count is 0 - call it -PrinceI usually set both of these two select checked items only, random with live updating, limited to 25 items.3) Create another Smart Playlist with Playlist = +Prince + Playlist = -Prince.This time check all the boxes (live updating etc), but select 50 items. In the Match box above change the option to "Any".Save it as Luv2Hate Prince and there you go; a brand new Playlist which allows you to listen to favourite and least played tracks. Of course as you go you can rate your tracks and as they are played their play count goes up. This means whenever you sync your iPod f...
I/U Noticed
2007-05-16 19:10:00 I noticed that there have been very few comments lately :(U may have noticed that there hasn't been any blog entries or pod casts this week - being back at work has zapped away all my time... I don't know if I am going to record a Trunk Cast this week either as we're away this weekend!I am just about managing to produce 365 pics though!Hang in there... More About: Notice

Bit Breezy 'innit?
2007-05-13 11:28:00 We spent yesterday in Essex at Dan and Matt's invitation. We were going to down to watch Dan have his first flying lesson but sadly the weather was aginst him. There were some heavy showers at the start of the day but (as you can see from the photo's), the main problem was the high winds.Still we had a good day out. We went into Southend with Matt's friend Lee for lunch and a wander around before heading back to Matt's home for a birthday party for Dan.Matt's parents were very hospitable and welcoming. It was a fun day and now I can say I have been to Southend and Canvey Island.
I'm a Speedy Boarder! (not)
2007-05-11 11:54:00 Written on holiday as my daily journalWhat is it about airports and holidays that really brings out the worst in people? At the airport we all queued in a patient and english manner for our turn to board the plane but this calm was punctuated by an arrogant so and so who thought his speedy boarding ticket allowed him to jump the queue in front of everyone else (including other speedy boarders).I find it bizarre that Sleazy Jet can charge upwards of £3.50 per person per flight just to put 20 people in a queue ahead of other passengers. Especially when these people treat it as Sleazy's equivalent First Class.Let's face it, everyone has to queue and you all get as much chance as the next person at a seat (and it's not as if anyone will have to stand). And yet there is still this chaos. This even spilled over to the plane where the two Spanish gents in question (both speedy boarders, both wanting to get on first)), had an altercation. It's not worth it!Monday We spent the rest of ... More About: Speed , Speedy
Holiday Eve
2007-05-06 09:29:00 It's the day before our holiday so today is the day to dig out everything to pack... and of course my last day to blog before I go.Do I have much to talk ab out since my last entry? Not really but I have found some cool things online I'd like to share before I go.1) Magnetosphere. I do tend to think that the Visualiser function in iTunes is underused and forgotten. Unlike the Windows Media Player version which is shoved in your face whenever you play anything. The iTunes visualiser has a number of neat tricks up it's sleeve and I just discovered Magnetosphere which is a rather fab plugin. Check out the link to see a grab from the animation. It's worth a download.2) Facebook I know there are hundreds of social web sites and groups out there and it's hard to keep up. This is probably why I am only just discovering Facebook. There is a large following in my company so I decided to join up and take a look. I have since created a Trunk Guy Group which you are all welcome... More About: Holiday

Fags in Football
2007-05-05 18:39:00 It's long been said that professional football is one of the last professions where it is not OK to be openly gay. Judging by the reactions of the Chelsea players when asked the simple question of who they thought was the best looking footballer at Chelsea, I am not surprised...Although the boys seem a little shy and awkward to be answering such a question, they majority of them do have good taste. Carlo Cuddicini is quite a dish ;) More About: Football , Ball , Foot

Out on the lash!
2007-05-03 19:02:00 It's certainly been a busy week. At least for once it's not all been taken up with work though! To start with their was the Tony Bennett Concert on Monday. Last night I attended a leaving party for Gordon. A colleague of mine who is leaving my company after working there for 13 years. He's jacking everything in to travel around the world and I really admire his guts. He's a nice chap and he has an oddball sense of humour which I am going to miss amongst our team. There was a nice group of us in attendance last night and we started the evening by making the most of the warm weather by enjoying the local beer garden on the Thames. We made out way along the South Bank to Wagamama where we had a fun evening scoffing and joking around.I could have done without getting back so late though. With all these late nights and early morning this week I will need a holiday. Oh hang on a minute, we're away next week! ;¬DNote for those of you waiting for this weeks Trunk Cast, I am afrai... More About: Lash
The Good Life
2007-05-01 19:44:00 Ah the good life, listening to an old geezer crone!Seriously though, Richard and I were privileged to see the legend that is Tony Bennett at the Royal Albert Hall last night.Boy what a concert!I am amazed that a man of 80 has so much stamina. He was on stage for a 90 minutes set with no breaks and he covered a great deal of songs from his repertoire. What was truly amazing was when he got the sound guys to switch off all the mics and sang a rendition of Fly Me to the Moon only with the aid of a guitar on backing. This 80 year old filled the Royal Albert Hall with sound, his vocals were clear, crisp and bang on the mark. I have never witnessed anyone sing so well with such volume and make it all seem so effortless.I can see why so many people raved about the Brat Pack when they were in the hey day.Tony Bennett truly is a musical legend and I feel very honoured to have witnessed this real gent and to have me in his company for one evening.(Read Richard's account of the concert here). Blading for Glory!
2007-04-29 19:13:00 After much planning and a lot of time passing I finally got to spend the day with Andrea, Yvonne and Ness in town.We planned a day in the Kings Road which is exactly what we achieved. After shopping our socks off in London's most chi chi borough we made our way to Harvey Nichols where we had an entertaining lunch. Entertaining because we all enjoyed bitching about the waifs and size 0's that seemed to occupy Harvey Nic's desperately trying to avoid eat anything whilst still trying to look cool.A trip with Bond Street led us in the path of the band of roller-bladers you see captured here. Sadly for Vanessa we learnt that no Tiffany's open in London on a Sunday. We did manage to get to see the new Abercrombie and Fitch store but apart from the half naked guy on the door it wasn't worth it. The store suffers the same problem as the main one in NYC, it's too dark, too crowded and you can't see what you're buying. At least now I know where all the úber queens are hanging out.I... How Tartly That Gentleman Looks!
2007-04-27 20:00:00 Well it's been a week of contrasts. A week of travelling and emotions.Thankfully Friday seemed to bring things back to normality - but with a cultural interlude at lunch...I spotted a flyer advertising Shakespeare in a lunch break at the Bridewell Theatre so I went along today with two guys from the office. It was really nice to sit down, take some time out and to enjoy some real culture - especially in the middle of a busy working day.Bridewell is a very small theatre in the City of London but is only 5 minutes from the office. The Lunchbox Theatre productions feature a number of Shakespearean productions and a 45 minute rendition of works is perfect. The cast were very good and incredibly fluid. It's been a long time since I have been to see a Shakesperean production. I think it's been even longer since I have read any Shakespeare. I am sure Patrick and I will go again - especially as Twelfth Night is coming up in a couple of weeks.I often wonder about what other people do... More About: Tart , That , Look , Gentleman , Gentle

2007-04-19 18:23:00 I have been very slow in writing anything for the blog this week as I just have not had the time.I did manage to produce another Trunk Cast and that will go some way to explain why. With one thing and another it's simply been too much to want to spend too much time in front of the computer at home. I think I may even be right in saying my computer wasn't even switched on last night - I'd simply had enough of sitting in front of a computer. There will probably be even less entries next week as I am away a number of days (again refer to Trunk Cast 88)I did mention the designs I submitted to Threadless last time I wrote anything here and sadly both designs were rejected over technicalities in the design (colours, size etc). I have now updated the designs and resubmitted. Follow the thumbnails to pop by and vote for them - of course, that is when they get approval!Update - unfrotunately Office Politics has been declined again. I will submit a new version over the weekend!I posted ...
Wear Some Trunk Guy!
2007-04-15 13:30:00 As you may have noticed I like to wear Threadless T Shirts - my only qualm is the cost I have to pay to get them shipped!Anyway I did submit some designs a couple years ago but although they were quite highly rated they never made it to the creation stage.I have decided thanks to the warm reception my vector wallpapers are receiving, that I would create two t shirts from the favourite designs.I would be really really pleased (grovel), if you could pop by Threadless and vote for my designs. I stand to win a cash prize and I promise with the winnings I will pick one of you who have voted at random and send you a copy of the tee :)To make it easier for me to know you have voted for me - visit the links here (the images) and then add a comment. Many thanks.Wish me luck! 2007-04-14 21:39:00 ...beside the seaside!Lisa invited us down to her neck of the woods today and it meant spending one of the warmest days of the year on the coast.Needless to say we had a lovely day.We met a couple of Lisa's friends; Barry and Jamie who were also very nice. It was a bit of a drive but worth the time spent circumnavigating the M25 to be near the sea with a cool breeze and great company. We had a nice al fresco lunch followed by lots of ice cream on the beach (see photo eh Lisa!).I hope this weather spell continues as I think we'll make the most of the garden tomorrow.I hope we all manage to get together again soon. More articles from this author:2007-04-13 18:58:00 We went to see Pam Ann at our local Den of Inequity last night. Much to my surprise we had a really great evening.Pam Ann was an act booked at a launch party for a web site I worked on several years ago and back then I didn't think she was very funny.last night's performance however has changed my perception of her. She was very funny, very filthy and didn't hold any hostages. This was particularly present when she decided to rip into all the local parochial queens who seemed to crawl out from the nearest rocks to attend. You know the type - the sharks fin hair cut, wearing flip flop and Calvin's hosted up around their necks!Still it was a fun evening and I think it is safe to say Dan, Matt, Richard and I all awoke this morning feeling very tired as we had been crying through so much laughter :)* C@!t Standing by the Door 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 |
