Following is the story of this historical event as well as the construction of first railway section of Pakistan which was opened between Karachi City and Kotri in 1861. G T Road has a history. Once upon a time, travelling on G T Road (Jarneli Sarak) used to be reliving the past and a colorful cultural experience. No more. Travel ling on G T Road has become an ordeal; there is a lot of traffic and the road is under construction, since the time I can remember. I normally take an hour to travel 25 kilometers from my home to getting out of Lahore (Ravi Bridge). It is very exhausting pass Ravi Bridge but the real text starts. The road from a little ahead of Ravi to Kala Shah Kako Motorway Entrance is in real bad condition. Most of the way has been excavated and there is a huge amount of material laying around and there is a total absence of Highway Police or any sort of sign posting. Traffic remains choked till people find their own ways somehow. Seeing the condition what came to my mind was this; Is Shahdar to Kalash Kako portion of G T Road is left in this condition to force commuters to use Motorway?
