Google Reader hacks-repository
2007-09-25 02:19:00 Does speed-linking has to be a weekend activity? It seems customary to write link posts over the weekends but here I am, sharing some of the links that I have followed on using Google Reader more efficiently. These posts have wealth of ideas and I am sure you will love to bookmark them if you plan to use some of the techniques described in them. Organizing your Google Reader for efficiency, from Library Clips Tips for Google Reader Search from Google’s blog Aibek writes 16 more tips for Google reader Adam Pash even has a video on the keyboard shortcuts to get good with the reader, that he posted in earlier this year Short time after lifehacker’s post, Lifehack also had a wonderful post on reader hacks And of course how can you not take a look at Steve Rubel’s perspective on trends analysis? My Journey In Persuasion
2007-09-23 17:11:00 At my job, I have the responsibility to oversee a few people’s performance, which they sometimes call ’supervision’. In this capacity I often have to convince people to perform tasks that they may not always find to their liking or even make them accept the decisions that don’t sit well with them and various factors play a role in the latter - their age vs mine, their gender vs mine, their experience or seniority vs mine etc. On top of all these factors already in place, I am a pretty quiet person by nature so it is not always easy to persuade them to agree with me. And as we are all sometimes victims of stereotyping phenomenon, I have at times linked this trait, the ability to persuade people, to those types that have the skill to sell just about anything to anyone. But, Does this mean my quiet disposition prevents me from being effective in making people f... More About: Journey , My Journey , Persuasion
Smile :-) It’s your anniversary!
2007-09-20 00:23:00 25 years ago today, on September 19th, 1982, Scott Fahlman, a professor from Carnegie Melon University, invented the sideways smiley face :-) which is sometimes also called Emoticon! So, Happy 25th Anniversary to the ubiquitous Smile y that we have come to love so much… As is usually expected, there have been several disputes about Mr. Fahlman, Research Professor at Carnegie University being the first to discover the smiley emoticon, and I just found his response to a thread that he posted just about a couple of hours ago on one of the Google news article - oh yes, did you know you can comment on any Google news article now? Although the graphical yellow smiley face was invented by Harvey Ball in 1964 Can the new generations even believe how life would have been without the colon-hyphen- parenthesis combination ? &n...
Male-Female Ratios of 50 Most Influential Blogs and some
2007-09-16 01:08:00 I read the top 50 most influential bloggers list posted by Northxeast the other day as you all must have too. As is expected from most of such list posts, its being read and linked to even today by many. What intrigued me about this list was that it did not include a lot of the female bloggers who are equally or even more popular in some cases. As I was contemplating who got included and how many female bloggers were left out and such things, I also was thinking that it is possible there are fewer female bloggers than male bloggers - obviously, but then I read Shona’s post over at rich minx along similar thoughts, which revealed there were only 6 female bloggers listed in that top 50 most influential bloggers!! This is obviously a very interesting observation and I wonder why there are only 6 bloggers, why are not more females included in the list? I am by no means undermining the female bloggers included in that list, but I do feel that emomsathome by Wendy, succes... More About: Female , Blogs , Male , Some
I am most like Chris Pirillo?
2007-09-12 20:41:00 There is a fun little test on Technosailor that I found via Quick Online Tips that analyzes which web celebrity you associate yourself most with based on your answers to some dozen short multiple choice questions. Well, the very first question asks if you have a blackberry, I don’t own one, and I would be really shocked if Chris doesn’t have one either Who cares about the accuracy of these tests? I am happy with the results The Technosailor Self Importance Test You are most like Chris Pirillo! You are most like Chris Pirillo. You dominate your brand and do quite well in marketing it. However, you go out of the way to place the focus on other people as much as possible as a decision on power and authority. You may have many followers, readers or fans but you rarely let this distract you from your mission and focus. Who do you think your personality is like? Take the test here and let us know in the comments below….

Is procrastination a habit?
2007-09-11 07:23:00 I am sure many of us have fallen prey to procrastination and the reasons may not always be so clear, but one reason that probably is common to all of us is laziness and simply not wanting to do something when it is supposed to be done. The ‘thing’ that we should be doing doesn’t get done for whatever reason and soon it becomes a problem that is out of our hands and could lead to anxiety and stress which obviously can further overwhelm us! So, its really a vicious circle of unwanted events that we often get trapped in. You know how I started thinking about this? A few days ago, Liz Strauss from Successful Blogs had posted on her blog about the Blog Day 2007 - which was supposed to be on August 31, but Liz posted it on September 3rd! Liz was generous to include me in the list of blogs she introduced on this day and I was thinking that I knew about this event a bit in adv... More About: Procrastination , Abit , Habit
Inside the Google Machine - from the founders
2007-09-10 17:09:00 Today’s video is good 20 minutes long but its really worth every second. Sergey Brin and Larry Page co-founded Googl e in 1998, and redefined the way people use the web. Now two of the world’s richest people, they still play an active role in the company, encouraging fresh approaches to Google’s unique culture and its expanding suite of services. In this video they offer a peek inside the Google machine, sharing tidbits about international search patterns and the philanthropic Google Foundation project (which soon became Google.org). They talk about how their shared Montessori background led to the company’s “20 Percent Time” policy, which is directly responsible for success stories such as Google News and AdSense. Google’s dedication to innovative thinking and employee happiness is behind everything from the offices’ specially soundproofed projectors (which make it much easier to follow what’s being said in meetings) to the ... I signed up for PayPerPost
2007-09-09 07:34:00 When I was on blogger I had signed up with a lot of the affiliates in the first month but after moving on WordPress, did not take the time to utilize many of the services. One of them was PayPerPost . I hadn’t even logged in my account for a long time and already forgotten the log in info, but when I did just a few days ago, I was amazed at how different the site looked. The dashboard looks much cleaner and user friendly. The place seems to be flooded with opportunities and I remember the last time I was on their site, which was a few months ago, the payouts for an article was around $2.50 but now it seems to have gone up to at least $5.00 and I was instantly thinking I need to try this service. I am not too ambitious about making any money from this site, but if I can make a few dollars to pay for the hosting, would be really nice! How difficult can it be to write a genuine review of a service or a product once every few weeks? Especially if it is so... More About: Signed , Payperpost

yahoo photos closing on the 20th
2007-09-07 18:30:00 I wrote about Yahoo Photos closing a while back when it was first announced!! Now that the deadline is coming closer I thought I would remind you of it ‘coz if you are like me, you must not have taken all of your pictures off of their photo service. This is the letter I received just a few days ago from Yahoo. Dear Yahoo! Photos user, For some time now, we’ve supported two great photo sharing services: Yahoo! Photos and Flickr. But even good things come to an end, and we’ve decided to close Yahoo! Photos to focus all our efforts on Flickr — the award-winning photo sharing community that TIME Magazine has called “completely addictive.” We will officially close Yahoo! Photos on Thursday, September 20, 2007, at 9 p.m. PDT. Until then, we are offering you the opportunity to move to another photo sharing service (Flickr, KODAK Gallery, Shutterfly, Snapfish, or Photobucket). We’re making the t...

On friendships
2007-09-06 07:11:00 I was thinking about all the friends I have made over the years. Friends from high school to college to various jobs I have held, some I am in touch with and others got left behind (or they moved on, can’t sometimes tell which one happened). As life changed, I realized that I had developed friendships with many different kinds of people: single, married, divorced, males, females, older, younger! All of them fulfilled different kinds of needs at different times. And I am grateful for having them. As I was reminiscing about my friends and all kinds of situations and events, happy and sad times these people have been there for me, I thought about how my own needs and preferences had changed over time. And it amazes me to think how much influence my friends have had in shaping my personality ... More About: Friendships

What’s in a name?
2007-09-04 06:30:00 When I signed up with Blogger one day, I had not given a careful consideration to the name of the blog or even the title. Before this blog, I used to start blogs and would quickly lose interest and would delete them after a few months. But with Fresh Perspectives it was different from the very beginning. I thought I would want to provide my perspectives on all things interesting! And named the blog Interesting Observations! Little did I know that the names do matter! This time I commented on other blogs and the blogging community quickly took me under its wings. Then one day I realized I had ‘met’ quite a number of bloggers who were blogging on WordPress so I felt I needed to get my own domain and move on WordPress too. Well, by now I had gained quite a number of backlinks and didn’t feel like changing the name from Fresh-Perspectives to anything else but co...

Feel the Force
2007-09-02 07:14:00 Isn’t it amazing to look back in time and read some of our writings from the past? I blogged at MSN Spaces in 2005 and that blog is still hanging out on technorati. Unlike in the past when I used to start a blog on blogger or WordPress.com and delete it after a few months of blogging, I never deleted this one. And even though the blog is essentially dead for two years, and only had one fan for most of its life, ever since I started Interesting Observations, more people have added it to their favorites, and continue to do so! So today seeing that another one of my fans had added this blog to their favorites, I thought of bringing one of the articles I wrote in August of 2005 alive on this blog! Notice the month of August bringing on the similar disenchantment!! That is because this month was the hardest on our family! So, here is that articl... More About: Force , Feel , The Force
Our thoughts and fears
2007-08-30 19:39:00 We have all heard this before, read it many times over that our thoughts create our reality, but do we really really take a moment and think what it means? I am generally an optimist but there are times when I have had to kick myself to not fall in the trap of negativity. The negative attitudes and thoughts can go away if we can learn not to foster them so much. But often times it becomes really difficult to shun them away! My thoughts that come closest to any sort of negativity are my fears. And the biggest fear I have is the fear of losing my loved ones, especially my aging parents, who are not without serious health problems. Once I start thinking about these things, I realize its a downward spiral from there on. I also strongly believe that our thoughts have the power to manifest themselves eventually, and that once the thought has originated in our mind and if we continue to give that thought our attention, the universe has a way of putting those thoughts int... Creating Content from Everyday Life
2007-08-28 10:17:00 Do the ideas to write for your blog come easy to you? Sometimes there are a lot of ideas in your head but when you sit down to actually writing them down, the mind goes blank. We all know to write these ideas down as they enter our heads or imaginations, but I find it hard to carry a paper and pen with me at all times. How can you? I do not find it feasible although I have actually tried to keep a notebook with me but it looks odd and I do not want to look I am obsessed with my blog! Although sometimes I feel I am!! So how can you remember those ideas? You can write them down if it works for you, but in my opinion, the easiest and the most interesting way to make posts is to transfer the ideas right out of your real life. The real life incidents and events can very easily give us fodder for our thoughts. For this kind of thing to work without remembering, all we need to do is to go through life with a little bit of awareness and better observation skills. I am a... 5 years from now?
2007-08-26 17:00:00 Do you ever think about any of the following questions? Say about 5 years from now, would you still be blogging? what would your blog have achieved? would you be putting in more numbers of hours into your blog? would you be reading same blogs you are reading today? would you be still be using WordPress or switch to another platform? (if you answered yes to #1) I am sure most of us would like to make a living from blogging but that just is not realistic, and there are a number of articles written by some well known bloggers on this subject which I agree with. What are your personal goals as they relate to your blog? As I went through Darren’s latest article on 10 blogs he reads, I thought I read 7 of the blogs he reads! and my 8th blog is his own blog of course! And I am sure blogs that are popular today will remain on top and may be become even more popular in the coming years just because of the valuable content they provide but what happens to the rest of mi... Fresh Perspectives got reviewed
2007-08-25 15:12:00 This is a short post to let you know that fresh-perspectives got a fresher perspective during a recent review by RT Cunningham of Untwisted Vortex. When I found RT was starting to review blogs, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get his view because the more I read his blog, the more I learn about blogging. His blog is a delight to read. Just imagine the amount of effort he must have put into its development and maintenance, no wonder it is so popular! Even though I know a whole lot of the things that need to either be fixed or changed in this blog, I am glad it passed an evaluation with flying colors! :) Thank you RT. How are you finding links to your blog?
2007-08-23 01:05:00 As I was browsing the net today I came across an article that talks about SEO tips and the top most tip Glen listed in this post was the importance of having backlinks! Good backlinks are apparently one of the most important factors in getting your site ranked high in search engines! In order to facilitate inter-linking of various blogs, Rhys came up with a brilliant idea of blogs reviewing each other! What? You don’t know who Rhys is? I have seen Rhys (pronounced as ‘peace’ - as guessed by RichMinx) around for a while and he is pretty active in the blogging community! Pretty cool guy who calls himself a Geek! You’ll see his talent when you read the six blogs he authors and guest posts on many! I really like his idea of blogs reviewing each other, giving honest advice and in the process exchanging links.
