ID theft!
2008-02-11 18:00:00
I was reading an interesting article in the Christian Science Monitor the other day about a dog that becomes a victim of identity theft. The ID tag of Sir Barks-a-lot, a black Lab, is stolen by a German shepherd owner, who pins a crime on the unsuspecting hound.May be a funny story, but ID theft certainly isn't, it can really mess up lives. We read about lifelock a service that helps prevent identify theft. They take the steps necessary and do all the leg work to help you from becoming an identify theft victim. And they guarantee their work. It may be worth checking out for individuals, students, children, family and even those who are current victims of ID theft.

Lost and found in Utah!
2008-02-10 12:38:00
Benjamin Hardin, a volunteer of more than a year at the South Utah Valley Animal Shelter and a graduate student studying Computer Science, created a Web site to make reuniting pets with their owners a little easier.Hardin said many owners lose their pets, but do not know where to start looking for them. "The old way of doing things is to post signs around your neighborhood," Hardin said. "The Web site is just a better way of doing that."The website had a lost and found section, a bundle of resources and even some success stories. Check out Utah County Pets if you've lost or found a pet, help them be reunited with their loved ones! And if you're out there in cold Utah looking for a lost pet, be sure and wear your Emu Australia boots to keep warm, K?

Lending crisis affecting pets!
2008-02-10 12:00:00
Here in the US, homeowners are having a tough time keeping up with their mortgage payments and pets are suffering.According to Adam Crisp, Staff Writer, for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, "Each week about 20 to 25 pets are dropped off at Chattanooga's Humane Educational Society, given up while moving vans idle in the parking lot.""Families who have lost their homes to foreclosure tell animal care workers they have nowhere else to turn, as the temporary housing they have found won't allow their furry friends," Crisp added in his article."When people lose their homes, they have to go somewhere, and oftentimes they must downsize and go to an apartment," said Guy Bilyeu, the society's executive director. "If they haven't really done their research, they might end up in a place that doesn't allow animals, and then what do you do?"And similar situations may be happening in the UK, where a lending crunch is also occurring. "Homeowners have been advised to act quickly if they see a ...

Take caution when buying pet medications online!
2008-02-08 18:58:00
There is an interesting article online from WPXI in Philadelphia today and we wanted to share the information. Here's the article:PITTSBURGH -- Treating a pet's illness with drugs can be costly. That's why many are turning to the Internet to find cheaper prices on pet medicines. While it may be cheaper, the Federal Drug Administration says it can also be dangerous.A Pittsburgh biologist and owner of Pets Supplies Plus, Burton Patrick, doesn't think buying pet medication online is a good idea."They think they're saving a lot of money and sometimes they're actually using these meds not under a veterinarian’s guidance comma and that makes a big difference. I think people are better off finding a vet who's reasonable, buy their meds add space from a vet. He's fam i liar with what's bei ng used and he will be better at helping maintain the health of your pet." Patrick said. However, many pet owners like the convenience of online ordering and now some local veterinarians are now d...

Meet Boomer!
2008-02-08 12:00:00
Boomer is a neutered male Basset Hound/Yellow Lab cross with an approximate birth date of October 2002. He came to live at the Central Dakota Humane Society as a hurricane rescue from a Southern sanctuary. This loveable guy arrived in North Dakota suffering from heartworm disease, but today, with treatment, is heartworm free and healthy as a horse! We found Boomer currently being cared for by the Central Dakota Humane Society in Manden, North Dakota. CDHS was originally formed by 12 members as the League for Animal Welfare in 1960. Now CDHS has over 1,800 members, but unfortunately, an animal shelter in a community the size of Bismarck/Mandan and the outlying towns should have about 3,000 members to continue its community work and help more animals. For more information about Boomer, click here!

Blog ranking!
2008-02-08 01:27:00
If you haven't heard about it yet, there's a new blog ranking system that's hit the Internet. It's from IZEARanks.com and it's called RealRank. When you sign up with IZEARanks you insert a piece of javascript into your blog so that they can collect and report a rank based on actual traffic. (And for those worried that they may get dinged by Google, Izea claims, "that the code is different than the code used for PayPerPost, so anyone concerned about a hit from Google need not worry.")IZEARanks indicates they rank the top blogs in the blogosphere via actual site statistics, not an extrapolation of estimates, or links. They also indicate RealRank aims to replace historically unreliable influence indicators such as Google PageRank, Alexa and Comscore by providing more accurate statistical data collected directly from the source.According to the IzeaRanks website the system weighs blogs through the following statistics: 70% daily unique visitors; 20% daily active inbound links; and 1...

Dog cars!
2008-02-06 18:00:00
Anyone who has dogs, and does activities with them, probably has a dog car. I know we do!When we bought our last car, we took into consideration all the important things about the car and how comfortable it would be for me and my sis, Gracie (and potentially any new pups that may be added to the family in the future). We checked Car Prices, we checked crating space, flooring, the ability of the car to be cleaned easily, size, accessibility - you name it we checked it. It had to be able to handle all the travel we needed to do all the agility that we do. And it had to be safe.Next time you are looking for your new car, don't forget about the four-leggers! K?

Australia - it's summer there now! We have a few blogging buds in Australia, and while I talk about keeping warm, they're wanting recipes for homemade frosty paws, and talking about taking baths outside. If I did that now, I be a fur ball of icicles!Come January here in the Midwest, we get pretty fed up with the cold weather. Then comes February, when we just don't think we can bear it any longer. And just around the corner is March and finally some hope for the coming Spring and Summer.I sure wouldn't mind taking a nice visit to see my buds in Australia right now. Playing in the sand and surf at the beaches, taking in some nice hiking...sounds great after being cooped up in the house. Taking a nice flight to Australia, right now, sounds bloody pawsome!

The reality is, many of the animals surrendered to the shelter are not vaccinated or altered prior to their entry. Some come in with illnesses that can effect the other animals. We vaccinate in an attempt to prevent the spread of illnesses, but until the general public vaccinates and alters ALL of their animals, we will continue to have the over population problems that lead to health issues. For more information about Bear, click here!

Yukon is a 7 year old, 110 lb great dane/am staff mix. He is an absolute love! He is super friendly and calm. Despite his size he thinks he is a lap dog. He likes to play with basketballs and rope toys. Sometimes he can be a bit clumsy and may not notice that he knocks things over with his tail. He is on a special diet for his skin allergies. He has been exposed to other dogs and kids of all ages. He isn't a fan of cats though. We met Yukon currently being cared for by Animal Rescue League of Southern Rhode Island in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. The ARL/SRI operates as a "limited admission" shelter. Some may refer to this as a "no kill" shelter. They do not euthanize animals just to make room to take in more animals. Consequently, they may sommetimes have a waiting list for dog surrenders and usually have a waiting list for cat surrenders. For more information about Yukon, click here!

Meet Abby!
2007-10-12 12:11:00
Abby lived her first seven years in a loving home, with four children and a male dog. When her owners got a divorce, her world was split in half; the two dogs stayed with the husband, and the children went with the wife.Abby had loved “her kids” and missed them, but she still had her canine buddy. The new arrangement was short-lived, however, because there was a bad fire in the home. Abby’s owner couldn’t live there any longer, and he turned to a friend, who owned Abby’s sister/littermate, and asked him to take Abby. This arrangement didn’t work out, because the sister was jealous and kept attacking Abby. The new owner was worried about her safety and tried keeping Abby in a crate, which she hated; she kept breaking out in order to be near him. So as a last resort he turned to GSRNE and asked that we find Abby a real home of her own.Abby likes walks, attention and affection, hearing your voice, food of all kinds, water coming from the hose, fetching and chewing sticks,...
