That’s where we put links to other peoples’ blogs that we think might interest our readers, as well as the occasional link to other sites that might be interesting. Ok, we made the decision to have TWO dogs. Of course it needed to be a Sheltie for the newcomer. Hunee is absolutely the most loved AND pampered Sheltie on the face of the earth for the past 10 years, we felt . Needless to say it was a tough decision to have another, although wanted by the parents, another dog of any persuisian was a possible threat to the only child and heavily pampered Hunee……. BUT after meeting Stevie Nicks , and her calm, even forgiving demeanor, we realizied this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Stevie is now in her new home and seemingly is very very happy. It didn’t take long. Stevie immediately staked her claim at bedtime, plopping in between the two of us, licking, seemingly unending for hours, in the middle of the bed til we awoke. Stevie slept in the bed the entire night with nothing but love. After 2 days we are so in love with Stevie Nicks and Hunee has been the trooper of all troopers after 10 years of being an only Sheltie. It ...

New Girl?Sarah?Is She ALL Sheltie?

On Sunday we spent almost an hour trying to decide if Sarah is a Sheltie mix or all Sheltie. She’s very sweet and we thought we knew who the perfect, recently available, foster Mom would be for this shy girl…Char Pierce. Char does great things for the shy kids. They feel safe and secure with her and it show in their increasing confidence. In the end we took Sarah into Sheltie Rescue and posted her on Petfinder. Who?s In Charge At Your House?

Dorothy Christiansen, National Sheltie Rescue coördinator, sent the Sheltie Rescue list a wonderful article about making sure that the right individual(s) is/are in charge in a house shared by humans and dogs. The immediate topic of the article is ensuring that your dog(s) are more relaxed, knowing that you are firmly in charge of the pack, and that he or she doesn’t need to worry either about the pack not having a leader or about having to fill that role himself/herself. I don’t know if this is going to look like a photo for real or not…I see the code but not the image - there’s the photo! This is a photo of Stevie Nicks and Jackson. This entry has turned out to be more of an experiment in uploading photos than anything else. Jackson is either a Corgi/Sheltie mix or a fluffy, which is a Corgi that is an embarrassment to its breeder because he’s got a major fault of a very long, Sheltie-like coat. He’s adorable though…like Stevie! Adoption Day: Stevie Nicks

This afternoon, Stevie Nicks went to her new home ? her forever home. Stevie arrived her only a couple of weeks ago, but she’d become a wonderful addition to the pack. She had this great talent of interceding calmly and quietly when any of the other dogs got into a spat. She’d just gently insert herself between the two squabblers and gently, but physically, move one of them away. Stevie was also one of the great cuddlers that go through our program every now and then. Her new family is just delighted with her. Stevie will be a companion for their older Sheltie, as well as a very-much-wanted family member. As they left our house with their new Sheltie-daughter, I opened my arms to give Stevie a big hug and she looked at me like “Sorry, but you can’t have me back…I’ve got a new family” And off they went to PetCo where Stevie was going to be allowed to shop for her own toys and treats! addthis_url = 'http%3A%2F%2FSheltieTales.com%2F200...

Therapy Dogs

I was reading the post about Tommy, and how Barbara and Jim have hopes that he might be able to serve as a therapy dog at some point in the future. I just couldn’t resist sharing my own experience with my rescue, Twist. He is a 6 year old Sheltie who came into my life about 3 years ago. In that time we’ve enjoyed doing obedience, agility and a little herding. We recently had the privilege to take a vacation to a place called Camp Winnaribbun in Lake Tahoe which is designed just for dog lovers like us. Among the huge variety of activities available to the campers was the chance to prepare for and then take a test to become a certified therapy team. I jumped at the opportunity! What a great way to be able to work together with your dog and bring happiness to others at the same time! I’m proud to say that Twist and I passed our test, and we are looking forward to this new adventure. I would really encourage anyone who have even casually considered this to loo...

SheltieTales is a blog about…well, Shelties, of course. On occasion, we will no doubt blog on other topics, based on what’s going on around us and occupying our thoughts. The Sheltie community and the rescue community are made of really, really nice people. Sure, there are going to be people with whom you have bad chemistry, but I promise you that anybody who gives of their hearts and souls like these two communities’ members do is a Very Good Person. So be nice. No name calling, no flame wars, and as little sarcasm as possible. (Remember that book that was popular a few years ago: “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten“?) We sincerely hope that some of what we write is interesting to some of you and that you’ll care enough to comment on or rate entries that catch your eye.
