Tsk Tsk, arguing with a bird...
2007-11-21 11:16:00 Yup, I know, should be below my dignity, but I had a serious beef with the Butch family (pied butcherbirds) yesterday. read more » More About: Bird , Guin
Paying our friends a visit
2007-11-18 03:36:00 It's been hard this week to go bush and visit our bird friends. Last, I think it was Monday, Gitie was driving home and she saw baby Josie magpie walking all alone along the road. She called for Maggie and told him that she was very worried that a car might hit Josie. Well, immediately, he took her way off into the bush well away from traffic. But then there were two days of cold, continuous rain, and we didn't hear Josie even in the distance after that. So this morning we specially wanted to see if we could find her. read more » More About: Friends , Visit
Cuckoo
2007-11-14 13:26:00 I was quietly eating my brekky this morning when an almighty ruckus broke out up at the front gate: loud snake-like hissing and sound of wings. read more » More About: Cuckoo
The State of the Magpies (Part 4)
2007-11-13 11:34:00 I've told you about our magpies, grey and pied butcherbirds, and the noisy miners. They are really the core of Maggie's circle, but they have lots of other friends. read more » More About: State , Part , The State , Magpie
Talking Kookaburras Love The 'Big Eye'
2007-11-10 14:06:00 Weather permitting, I like to visit the chicks on their first few days out of the nest. Partly because I can't wait to see them closer and make friends and partly to take some photographs. On Josie's (Maggie and Vicky's seventh kid) fifth day out of the nest, I trooped towards their 'nursery' armed with my camera and some bread for all the other birds who might want a snack. Wendy, her older sister (1 year old) called out to me. read more » More About: Love , Talking
The State of the Magpies (Part 3)
2007-11-10 08:35:00 These "State of" posts are to fill everyone in on the bird community around our house. I've told you about the magpies, though: Maggie and his family, Vicky, Sophie, Wendy, and this year's bub, Josie, and then on the other side Billy, Maggie's adopted younger brother who seems to have had a big group of bubs with his partner, Polly. So I'd better get on and tell you about the other birds in the community. read more » More About: Part , Part 3 , The State , Magpie

2007-11-06 10:52:00 Well well! Baby Josie is a week out of the nest and yesterday she came to the back yard and let us take a couple of photographs. Not too many though, you can't let those humans take advantage! read more »
The State of the Magpies (Part 2)
2007-11-01 13:06:00 I said I'd tell you about the "other" magpie we have here who is not in Maggie's family, but events have moved so fast they've overtaken my story. read more » More About: State , Part , The State , Magpie
Butterfly Day
2007-10-29 12:57:00 Yesterday was Butterfly Day. Once a year or so we get millions of butterflies fluttering by in unison, going where only they know. This time they were all going north. Sometimes it is so dense it is like a cloud of butterflies. It was a wonderful day for us and our birds, too. read more »
