What Everyone Ought To Know About The Dog That Cannot Bark...
2008-03-09 15:27:00 There must have been times in your life when you had wished that your dog would just stop barking! Or maybe the neighbors have threatened to go to the police, if Fido carries on without a break. Well if you are one of those people, who loves dogs, but cannot stand the barking, there is hope! Have you ever heard of the Dog that doesnt bark?...Or more commonly known as the Basenji? This amazing dog comes from Central Africa, and while civilizations were only starting to blossom, this dog was already established as a known breed! With a gazelle-like sleekness, an almost feline grace; and a movement that resembles more of a trotting horse, than a slumbering canine - the Basenji truly is a unique breed. They clean themselves like a cat; they have no doggy-odor and most interestingly: the Basenji cannot bark. They can howl like a wolf they can yodel playfully...and they can scream when in pain yet they cannot bark. Although they have the same vocal cords as other canines, it is ...

Finding Champion-line Komondor Puppies for Sale is Now a Possibility...
2008-03-07 08:57:00 Did you know that the Komondor is the breed of dog with the heaviest amount of fur in the whole canine world? That's right! The Komondor has the most fur and even among it's sheepdog colleagues it reigns supreme at spot number 1! It's fur resemles a mop or collection of dreadlocks and therefore it is safe to say it is much like a European Rasta Dog! (or at least one of two, since it's Hungarian cousin , the Puli, has to come first, in that department!) Nevertheless, the fur of a Komondor is stringy and thickly corded. As a puppy, the fur is fluffy and soft, but as it grows into adulthood, the strands becomes more and more wavy and thus grow naturally long and cord-like. The length of the coat is in direct proportion to the age of the dog!How so, you ask? Well the oldest dogs have the heaviest and longest of coats. Once the cords are fully formed, the Komondor does not shed. It is thus a hypoallergenic giant and although one would think a huge, hairy dog like this would shed, i... Can Ear Cropping and Tail Docking of Dogs Be Compared To Breast Implants in
2008-03-06 19:58:00 Tell me do women look better with breast implants? You are probably thinking what the hell does silicone have to do with dogs? Not much, I agree, but as an analogy, it is striking. Today I was walking in a shopping mall and saw a woman with fake boobs. My train of thought steamed ahead of me and I found myself thinking: Hey! This is much like cropping a dogs ears or docking its tail! So .I would like to talk about docking and cropping. (At the end, feel free to answer my initial question, if you feel like it, of course) Much like with silicone implants, tail docking and ear cropping have been met by a lot of opposition. The tradition first originates from selecting breeding practices and it is seen as cosmetic modification of that which is God-given. So let me start by explaining what ear cropping is. At about age 9-13 weeks, puppies go under the knife and their whole look changes. While the puppy is anesthetized the outside edge of the puppys ears are cropped. ... Dog Poems: Pals
2008-03-06 07:55:00 PALS You see us every morning, A common pair are we, Each on a leash's ending My little dog and me. We amble village byways In bright or dismal weather; You may not think there's much in that, But we have fun together. No many-stranded cable Could bear the jokes that pass Between my little comrade And me -- my! how we sass! But how we give assurance That we don't really mean it! (A dog-and-man companionship Is balm to him who's seen it.) He greets his dog friends happily, While I to neighbors speak; He sometimes finds a treasure - A bone that's lost its meat! He talks with dogs or children, While I swap views with master . . . I had this thought the other day, While visiting with Pastor. "When dog and I have rambled on Beyond this mundane scope, And seen the Golden Gateway, (From the inside, we hope!) We won't pause on the highway Made smooth for feet more sainted, But wander down some quiet land, And start to get acquainted. We hope there'll be a hydrant, A friendly tree o... More About: Poems

The best option is to go for natural light, where there are equal amounts of shade and sunlight. 2. The best thing is to always use a flash, even when it is relatively light outside. 3. Canine Genetics May Help Cure Human Cancer, Diabetes and Epilepsy..
2008-03-04 15:08:00 Have you ever thought that dogs have a lot in common with humans? Well, if you answered yes to that question, you may not be too far off. We may be more like dogs than we think! Why are some dogs great at chasing balls while others are predisposed to lying on your lap? The answer to dog differences is hidden in specific sequences of DNA. Molecular biologists have now completely and successfully sequenced the first dog genome. A genome is the complete blueprint of an organisms DNA molecule sequence. By having a complete map of dog genes we are able to explain what gives dogs their unique set of traits, behaviors, and diseases, and strangely enough it may also help identify human diseases as well! How, you ask?? Well, by understanding how genetics play a role in canine diseases, it could help us humans to devise new treatments for diseases shared by humans. Diseases shared by dogs and humans include Cancer , Diabetes and Epilepsy . A standard poodle, named Shadow, was the first d... More About: Human , Genetics

How to Find the Perfect Rottweiler Puppy!
2008-03-04 09:11:00 I think there are very few dog lovers, who can deny that a purebred Rottweiler has an immensely noble bearing. With German perfection in the canine form, a Rottweiler is sure to turn (the right) heads. A person, who is truly a Rottweiler lover will know that this stunning and often misunderstood - breed is one of the most valuable specimens of all the canine breeds and working dogs as well. It is not an easy task to find the perfect Rottweiler. Of course .there are tons of Rottweilers out there, that look great and will suffice for those Rottweiler fans that are keen on having (just) a representative of the breed. But aaaaahhhh those that have perfect conformation; correct breeding; come from top champion-lines, and maybe even hold a few show titles and working titles as well those are few and far between. So, bearing this in mind; what is considered to be a top quality Rottweiler puppy? Quality depends on a number of factors. First of all, breeding is a very important ... Dog Poetry: Taking My New Puppy Home
2008-02-19 08:59:00 It was a cold December night, As she curled up tighter; shivering from fright. A bus screeched and mud splashed, And a lonely snowflake found her eyelash. What a night to take my new puppy home; My fingers freezing in the icy cold. She trembled, she shivered, she squirmed not once, As not yet in me had she instilled her trust. Her long, soft ears of true Cocker Spaniel, Oh if she were a boy, I could have named her brave Daniel. But for me she was a ray of sunlight; A gem, a gift, a treasure in the night. Scared as she was, that much is true, Yet - even for a brief time- she was my Bijoux. - Agnes Katona More About: Poetry , Home , Puppy , Taking

Popular Paws # 23: Great Dane
2008-02-19 08:38:00 Great Dane: Just Nuisance Just Nuisance was the only dog ever to be officially enlisted in the Royal Navy. He was a Great Dane, who from 1939-44 served at HMS Afrikander, a Royal Navy shore establishment in Simon's Town, South Africa. Just Nuisance was entitled the same benefits as any other Able Seaman, which included a cap. Nuisance was involved in a car accident which had caused thrombosis to develop, and this was gradually paralysing him, so on 1 January 1944 he was discharged from the Navy. His condition continued to deteriorate and on 1 April 1944 he was taken to Simon's Town Naval Hospital where on the advice of the naval veterinary surgeon, he was put to sleep. The next day he was taken to Klaver Camp where his body was draped with a Royal Naval White Ensign and he was buried with full naval honours, including a gun salute and the playing of the Last Post. A simple granite headstone marks his grave, but a statue was erected in Jubilee Square in Simon's Town to commemor... More About: Great , Popular
Fighting Dogs vs. Guard Dogs...
2008-02-15 08:51:00 Fighting Dogs are a perplexing group of dogs to comment on. The majority of them are loving pets with adults and children. The problem is that when they go awry, they are exceptionally dangerous because when they bite, they lock their jaws and will not release. They also have the inclination to lose their loving nature when they enter a pack of dogs more aggressive than themselves. Exceptions are Boxers, Bulldogs and Bostons who seem to have lost their fighting and negative traits. Do not purchase puppies when either parent is aloof or distrusting! If you purchase one of these breeds, accept the fact that it may never get on well with other dogs and may eat cats, birds, etc. Early socialization is a MUST for these breeds. Some Fighter Dog breeds include: -Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog -American Pit Bull Terrier -American Staffordshire Terrier -American Bulldog -Boxer -Bull Terrier -English Bull Mastiff -English Bulldog -Olde English Bulldog -Boston Terrier -French Bulldog Guard D... Ask Euro Puppy USA: "Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as Bird Dogs?"
2008-02-14 11:16:00 Question: Hi! Can you train Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as Bird Dogs ? Thanks, Pierce Answer: Dear Pierce, Thank you for visiting Euro Puppy and for your query. Concerning Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as bird dogs let me explain a few things, before I can answer your question... The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an interesting breed since it is first and foremost a companion dog. Even the FCI registers it the 9th group, which is designated for companion dogs. All the other spaniels belong to 8th group as designated by the FCI. This group is for the spaniels that are more hunting / bird dogs. A Cavalier, however is in its element if it is around people and family members. Therefore it is a companion dog. However, like all Spaniels, the Cavalier also has a genetic background of being a hunting dog or a gun dog /bird dog, where it was used to retrieve birds and game. Of all the Spaniel breeds, the original Cavalier is the only one that developed into a lap dog and t...

Dog Art: Springer Spaniel Paintings
2008-02-14 08:23:00 Artist, Sarah Theophilus distinctive style as well as her passion for dogs take the contemporary approach to the tradition of pet portraits much further. Her dog paintings capture the candid, the intense, and the more quirky nature of our beloved companions. Her art can be seen at Pet Portraits in Pastel. The English Springer Spaniel is a breed of gun dog traditionally used for flushing and retrieving game. The Springer is an affectionate and easy-going family dog, and its alertness and attentiveness make it the ideal hunting companion. An intelligent dog, and eager to please, a Springer is easily incorporated into a family setting. Although good with children, the Springer Spaniel tends to have a moderate to high energy level, so supervision is advisable. Its long-legged build makes it among the fastest of all the spaniels. In general, the breed is good with other pets, such as cats and ferrets, but in certain situations may not tolerate same sex dogs. This spaniel is an quit... More About: Paintings

2008-02-13 07:59:00 Treasured Friend I lost a treasured friend today The little dog who used to lay Her gentle head upon my knee And share her silent thoughts with me... She'll come no longer to my call Retrieve no more her favorite ball A voice far greater than my own Has called her to His golden throne. Although me eyes are filled with tears, I thank Him for the happy years He let her spend down here with me And for her love and loyalty. When it is time for me to go And join her there, this much I know... I shall not fear the transient dark For she will greet me with her bark. Author Unknown More About: Poems
