Of WOW moments............
2008-04-20 15:08:00
First things first, Batty and Scatty were homed yesterday. They have gone to an awesome home with a lady who is a serious cat lover, takes one to know one J She just called me a few moments ago to let me know how they are doing. They were hiding most of yesterday but came out last night which is a very good sign. I suggested that she use ?play? to reach them as that has worked for me and it?s what Batty knows. She will keep me posted and send pics which I will post for you lot as and when I get them.   Ok, second and just as important as the homing of Batty, I want to say a huge thank you to Ella-belle, Nocomment and Colonialist for the very generous offers of help. Thanks also to Lornagh who will be "nailing" and changing cd's. Also a special thanks to Stray Cat for all the "cat chats" during this trying time and for letting me cry when I needed to.You are all AWESOME!!   It?s amazing how cats have rules that sometimes we humans disobey. The 2 renegade ceilin...

Broken Heart..........
2008-04-18 18:23:00
Hi All,What a depressing week it's between Stray Cat's post and Taitas Life and the poor dogs. And of course we had the cats that were going to be "dumped" at the SPCA which of course as you knew I would, I took in.Then I get home and I am even more depressed because Batty's sister is SO stressed out she has wee'd all over the room. She is just lying there under the bed and I can "feel" how stressed she is.I have a dream which is to build a "cat run" consisting of a wendy house for shelter and an actual run so that the cats can then experience the outdoors. Anyone who has ever worked with feral cats will know that they cannot be locked up in a room and poor Batty's sister has been in 2 foster homes both of which have consisted of her being locked in a room. And what happens now when they come here, once again I have to put them in a room because I have 6 of my own cats. At least I spend time with them, play with them and give them an hour outside playtime everyday. Sh...

Cat Update..........
2008-04-18 08:58:00
You will all be very pleased to hear that I have taken Batty and sister in. They arrived last night at about 7.15. Batty just sits and stares at me but she is not sure....... Her sister has not come out from under the bed but that's ok I have no doubt that by the end of this weekend she will be playing just like the rest.Columbus was very happy to see his buddy and even Big Daddy looked quite pleased and Batty was given a quick lick.So there you are, cats once again in a good place and this time I will NOT let these Animal List people interfere. In fact, I will actually not let them onto my property! I am now going to try my best to home these cats myself.......Hope you all have a good day. This is Batty's sister. They look almost identical except that Batty has the soulful eyes....  P.S. The clipped ear denotes that the cat has been sterilised. The SPCA thinks that we re-release these cats back into the wild so they clip the ear to identify which ones have been "fixed".

Of cats coming back..............
2008-04-17 11:27:00
I have just received the following email. This is from the lady that has Batty and her sister. She thought that she had found a home for them. Now she wants to take these poor cats to Darg which is similar to SPCA......What do I do? Do I take these cats in?? It makes me so angry that they took Batty from me in the first place!!!!----- Original Message ----- From: (Name Removed) To: Cat_Woman Sent: Thursday, April 17, 2008 9:17 AM Subject: cats Looks like that person who said she was interested is a timewaster.  I phoned her yesterday and she said she was busy and would send me an email. When (Name Removed) phoned her the other day she said the same thing.   I’ve emailed (Name Removed) to ask if she thinks it best if I phone Darg again or turn up at their doorstop.  I can’t keep the cats any longer, sorry.

Cats at Play.....................
2008-04-15 20:55:00
Anyone who has lived with cats can testify that their sense of humour tends towards practical joking. My lot have the kind of facial features that allow for smiling.       Purring serves that purpose too although cats do purr when they are in pain. A friend recently told me of a cat that had died purring in her arms. Cats also don’t laugh out loud, but when a cat executes a prank successfully, it always seems pretty pleased about it. Some cat jokes are part of their play and mock hunting activities. Popular with kittens is the secret stalking and Sudden Ambush of another kitten, older cat, human, well basically anything. Adult cats also will sometimes play this game with each other (even my 12 year old absolutely loves this game) or with humans. If the cat about to be ambushed, the Stalkee, hears or catches sight of the Stalker, the cat being stalked may sit up and make eye contact with the Stalker as if to say, “Oh, hell no!” That round is ch...

Quick Hello
2008-04-14 16:44:00
Hi allColumbus here. The human is well and getting so much done, not to mention all the time she is spending with us lot. We have even got to have some outside playtime. I don't really like to have to come indoors but she manages to trick me everytime!!She has us all in her room and of course as you know I am the tame one BUT she has made great progress with the rest. One of the renegade ceiling cats has decided that she rather likes being stroked and having her ears scratched by the Human. I don't know what took her so long, I could have told her how nice it is to be touched............ *sigh* Ah well these feral cats.... oh wait... yes I was one too once....Ok well that's it, I did say it was a quick hello.I will leave you with some pics to oooooh and aaaaaah over. Here's Littely on HER bed.... tee hee (actually it's our bed)Look how content Pumpkin is looking. I think the Human has a very soft spot for him. Here's the whole gang together. Of truth and perceptions........
2008-04-07 11:50:00
You might have heard it said at one time or another that there is no such thing as truth, only what we believe is the truth. You can see that again and again whenever a number of people witness a scene and every one of them has a different version of what happened. We all place our "filters" and prejudices over what we see and hear, where we "pre-judge" what we see or hear based on our beliefs.  And through our filters, we "see" things that probably aren't there at all.  And we completely miss things that are ridiculously obvious to others. The same is true of fear...Most times the things we avoid, whether they're duties, actions, people, situations... doesn't matter what they are - those things, most often, are not scary.  Those things can't hurt us.  Nothing about the things that send us into panic is usually dangerous.Yet they make people quake with fear anyway.Because of skewed views.Because of Faulty perceptions.Coloured by our personal and societal...

Farewell.......
2008-04-06 18:12:00
Hi all you fabulous bloggers,Cape Town has got some rain at last. My friend Dinx will be very happy to know that I got some well needed rest today.Last night because it was cold (I think) all 5 of the little rescues came and climbed on the human's bed. I had my head examined by Pumpkin's sister and when she decided I was acceptable I got a lovely head massage and she then proceeded to "clean" my hair!So this morning I stayed in bed until about 10.30 and got some love of the best kind - feral love. P.S. This blog will be moving....... will post the new link once I am up and running!

Of broken hearts..........
2008-04-05 21:39:00
I have had a busy day today!I popped in to see Meezie earlier while we were both being load shedded! Had a fabulous lunch and left way after I meant to. Thanks Meez, lunch was delish! I met her Grandson, he is too precious for words. Then it was back home to do a few things before zooting off again this time to go and see how Batty Cat was doing. My heart is breaking and I am angrier than I was before. The Batty I saw today is the Batty that she was the first day she arrived here. Hiding under a table with that terrified unhappy look in her eyes. All my months of work has been undone in a week! I cried all the way home. Now I know why I just felt it would be wrong of them to take her from my home when I was at the point where I could touch her and she was already sleeping on my bed.I am more determined than ever before to now home the remaining cats myself. Please see my previous post and let me know if anyone can help or knows of someone who can help. Please read my prev...

An appeal............
2008-04-04 14:20:00
Good Morning fabulous bloggers,   Because this subject is very dear to my heart, this post might be a little longer than usual.  As most of you know, I had 5 rescued feral cats from different litters brought to me simultaneously by a privately run Animal List group, bearing in mind that I already had Columbus to tame.  Yes, I offered my services to tame one or two BUT, even with the best will in the world, taming 6 ferals at one time is a pretty tall order.   When these ladies supplied 5 wild little outsiders to an existing domestic colony of 6 without fair warning, I should have realized that they weren't all that clued up on cat behaviour!!   Columbus was easy to tame as anyone can gather from previous posts.  The next 5 arrived in one fell swoop and I've posted ad nauseum about their antics.   Pumpkin was beginning to respond to me when he was injured by said ladies during an attempted "capture" at my house (I disapproved and was o...

Obituary................
2008-04-03 14:09:00
The sad passing of Common Sense   Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No-one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long in bureaucratic red tape.    He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in and out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.   Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge).   His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.   Reports of a six year old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condit...

Of Gratitude Lists...............
2008-04-02 11:12:00
I have a friend who mentioned to me a while back that although there are aspects of my personality that she does not like, she likes the way that I relate to cats and what I do for cats in general.   Last night we had a chat and I was telling her how I cannot pull myself out of this negativity I feel about my job and for the first time in my life I just CANNOT see the positive.   Anyway, to cut a long story short - I woke up this morning and realized that this is one of the aspects of my personality that she more than likely does not like. I am not practicing what I preach with regards to positive thinking. And no matter what my reasons are I need to get my ass in gear and JUST DO IT!   So, today is the beginning of my new life. I have decided to stick my job out and see the positive.   In this vein, my Gratitude List for today reads as follows:   I am grateful that I have a well paying job when many out there do not.   I am grateful that my job ...

Good morning boggers bloggers,   Columbus here, the Human can't be bothered is busy today and doesn't have time to blog. She is going for training today for that work from home (woo hoo!) job so wish her luck.   Last night I FINALLY got to see the great outdoors as the Human let me out for a while. It was a closely supervised outing and I have some nice pics for you lot.   This is me discovering trees.    Jake wasn't too happy about having to share his garden.   But Big Daddy was watching to make sure I stayed safe.   I explored every nook and cranny of the garden   It was FABULOUS and the Human says I can do it again when she comes home. I can't wait!   This is a pic (not a very good one - the Human was half asleep already) for Ella-belle of my friend Pumpkin. Just look E how he is smiling now!    Well that's it for now. I am sure the Human will visit you all later but they are load shedding in the CBD from 12 to 2...

Right, you all know about the 2 renegade cats in the ceiling. I decided this weekend they WILL come down come hell or high water. And so on Friday night I patiently waited and ...................... nothing, nada, nix.So on Saturday night again, I waited and nothing again. Then I thought maybe if I open the trapdoor in the passage.....Right then, trapdoor open, all my lot outdoors and kittens running up and down the passage having a ball. 2 little faces peeked down from the trapdoor and watched the shenanigans with great interest. 2 little faces watched longingly at balls being batted around against walls. 2 little faces watche with awe as human played with once wild kittens. 2 little faces showed signs of jumping onto the scratching post I had put there for that exact purpose. 2 little faces were hanging down and just about to jump when Son A and GF arrived home. Damn, buggery bollocks! Plan foiled! This morning at 7.00 AM I was awoken by elephants running around in t...

Sideview's Weekend Challenge....
2008-03-29 10:51:00
Good morning fabulous bloggersI thought I would do Sideview's Weekend Challenge which is to come up with 'home remedies' of the less helpful nature. Anything ridiculous would be best. So here are mine: If you are choking on an ice cube, don't panic. Simply pour a cup of  boiling water down your throat and presto! The blockage will be almost instantly removed.Clumsy? Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop away.Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by simply using the sink.High blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a while. thus reducing the pressure in your veins.A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep when you hit the snooze button. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you will be afraid to cough.

I have just walked into Son A's bathroom and found this spider!!!!!!!!!! I think he must have brought it back with him from Knysna! It took me AGES to kill it!And just to be sure, I flushed it!It was so HUGE I was afraid it might eat my little Pumpkin!
Your Friday story............
2008-03-28 12:32:00
Here is your Friday story, M.I.H. Just read an inspirational story in our local paper about a young man in high school with a very bright future thanks to his focus on three letters, M.I.H. This kid has a passion for excellence in everything he does, particularly his sport of choice, wrestling. Last year he had what most considered an amazing wrestling season and ended up hoisting the second place trophy at the state championships. While friends and family cheered, he planned. The day after the state finals, he was back in the same old gym working out in the same old sweats with one small change. He had placed white tape on each of his three middle fingers, and on each piece of tape was a letter. M.I.H. His friends, family, and teammates all repeatedly asked about the letters, but he refused divulge their meaning. He kept the letters on his fingers all year, and he trained harder than ever, until he again found himself at the state tournament. This time the outcome was slig...

Hi All,   There are so many things that I would like to tell you about right now but I just can't seem to find the time. Work is hectic and I don't even find time to sneeze never mind anything else. Oh and of course we have blah blah bullsh*t meetings for an hour and a half in between all of this.   I cannot wait to be out of this place. My update on that score is that sod I mean boss talked me out of resigning only to have learnt NOTHING from the frank and open discussion which we had during that meeting. So now... once again I will be resigning on 1 April to leave at the end of April. I do have a very nice work from home internet related job in the bag and also have been given a website by a very generous blogger but that is a post all of its own.   So for now I am biting the bullet and *sigh* taking each day as it comes.   In feline news, on Tuesday Batty went to a new home where she is now with her sister who was being fostered by someone else. I cried my e...

2008-03-25 22:59:00
Right then my MOB post.............Sponty had come to me a little earlier for a visit which I kept having to postpone thanks to the cat saga that had been ongoing all week. Finally she arrived and while I blowdried my hair she shouted spoke to me. Eventually we were ready to go and sped off to Woolies to go and buy my "plate of snacks".We arrived at Meezie's and Lornagh and Old Hen (now changed to Granny Hen at our orders request) were already there.Hugs all around and we plonked ourselves down on our favourite couch. Samantha and family finally arrived and within no time at all the party had began. The wine flowed as did the conversation and the laughter. What a stunning lady Granny Hen is and so full of life. I think poor OC had a culture shock but he took it in his stride. It was good to see Samantha again too as I had not had much of a chance to chat to her at our last MOB as her visit was short that day. And what stunning children she has!Meezie as always was an excellent ho...
And again.....
2008-03-24 13:56:00
Right so once again I went into the garage this morning to do my usual filling of food and water bowls and emptying of cat litter. Yep not a cat in sight! And once again my handiwork undone!Since 8 this morning I have left the garage door open and have just now closed it. No takers, although they did all come out of the roof except one (the original renegade who started this trend). So I have now given up and it's up to the Feral Organisation to catch them and good luck to them. I must just say that this is a private network of people who rescue and so for those who were concerned about the cats, none of them under any circumstances will be put to sleep. They will be tamed and homed, otherwise I would let them exist in my garage for ever.Columbus really did try and get them all to come out and play: And so did Batty:Who also made sure the Human didn't think of going up the ladder this time:(as if I would even consider that)Littely One kept looking for ways to get past the HumanWhil...
