A good day starts with treats!
2008-01-07 21:13:00 At last. It’s my turn to post. Yipee! Hi! I’m Daisy. Also called “Dickens”, “Cutie-Pie”, “Daisy-Baby”, “Spitfire” et al. Today I’d like to speak to you about one of my most favourite things in the whole world! I didn’t know how much I loved treats until one day, my mistress, Kat brought home some greenies. I don’t know what they put in them, but they are scrumptious! My favourite ones are salmon-flavoured, but really, I like them all. I’m sure you’re thinking this is like some kind of ad for these treats, but it isn’t. I just can’t say enough about greenies. They taste sooooo good! When the call goes out, I make it a point to get up the stairs and jump on the dresser so I can have first go at a treat. If we’re in the bathroom, I get on the stool (that’s me, the little black and white one in the photo) or the vanity so Kat will see me and give me another one. ... More About: Good , Treats
A Sneaky Spot
2008-01-05 20:05:00 Queen “B”, here. (For those of you who don’t know, that’s Queen “B” for Blanche). It’s true; I am the queen of the Hyggehus. To prove it, I take whatever place in the house I want, be it in front of the fire, on the “Bishop’s Chair” (See the picture above– Gilbert got there first, but luckily I like that cushion on the stool, or he’d be outta there pronto! Isn’t my glowing white fur gorgeous?), I also like to lie on the back of the couch, or, even on my mistress’s office chair where she likes to sit and work on her computer. Sometimes she has to take her laptop and work somewhere else because I’ve usurped her spot. I like her chair very much because it is comfy with the green and white cushion and it’s hidden away from the rest of those dimwits I have to share the place with. Daisy doesn’t have any interest in this chair, Gilbert’s just happy to have his turn at the fire ... More About: Spot , Sneaky
No cat is an island…but it helps to have one.
2008-01-03 18:40:00 Me again. Here are a few shots of my favourite hangout: the butcher block island in the middle of the kitchen. It’s ideal for snagging bits of food that’s being prepared by the masters. I’ve had much success in this situation — got lots of cheese gratings, licks of margarine and peanut butter. Just this morning, I used the old sweet face trick and cadged a piece of fried egg from my mistress’s sandwich. Mmmmm! The great thing about this spot too, is that I can use it as a launching pad to one of my other fave places: the stovetop. You wouldn’t believe the great things I find there. The other night while they were eating in the dining room, I stuck my face in the silver pot on the burner and I found some yummy beans in tomato sauce. Sadly, my mistress heard me licking the pot and dashed in and yelled at me to get down. I held my ground for a few seconds, but eventually gave in. I don’t want to lose my “charm” powers. ... In which Red finally gets his shot at snoozing, fireside.
2008-01-01 20:39:00 Around here, it’s tough being the youngest and a male to boot! Rarely, do I get a chance to stretch out and bask in the firelight’s glow. Blanche never lets anyone take her spot and Gilbert starts out nice and friendly, lying next to me, and we’re licking each other’s faces and then we end up in that tango of sorts and one thing leads to another and pretty soon, the fur is flying. Not that it isn’t a good laugh, but he takes it all too seriously. I mean, I never planned on kicking him in the face like that; it just sort of happened. Daisy has it in for me ever since I spooked her upstairs in the hallway on New Year’s Eve. Well, I say, she shouldn’t have been coming up the stairs so silently and secretly. She was coming up in the hopes of snatching some Greenies, I bet. Well, I fooled her! Anyway, I’ll just have a snooze here for a bit, store up some more energy for a few antics and we’ll see what we can get up to this even... More About: Shot , Finally
Four resolutions
2008-01-01 12:34:00 Blanche: I resolve not to fight with Daisy, as long as she stays out of my spots Gilbert: I resolve to eat more turkey-bacon, margarine, kibble and freshly baked muffins. Wait a minute! That was last year’s resolution. Daisy: I resolve to get Red, once and for all! (And eat more “Greenies”) Red: I resolve to have more fun! (is that possible?) (Oh, and lick more peanut butter off my mistress’s fingers). Conflict of Interests: Here’s our mistress’s list of resolutions with regard to us: I resolve to intervene at the first opportunity between Blanche and Daisy if things start to get nasty. I resolve to keep the cupboard doors firmly secured after baking and resist “sweet faces” lurking at the breakfast table. I resolve to keep Daisy occupied and out of Red’s path of destruction. I resolve to keep Red occupied (okay, he can have all the fun he wants), resist beggars (see “sweet faces” comment above re: peanut butter). ... More About: Resolutions
Happy New Year…and a big hairball to you!
2008-01-01 11:56:00 That’s what I presented my mistress with at 5:15 this morning (underneath the bed, approximately right under her pillow). Yes. I am so thoughtful. It got her right out of bed (okay, it took a few extra coughs and a high-pitched mew to really get her going, but she finally got up.) She only gave me that tasty gooey stuff in the tube, while the other three got a bit of kibble in their bowls, but that’s okay. I wasn’t really that hungry anyway. Now she’s turned on the gas fire so I can lounge in front of it and warm up. It’s freezing outside! Snow fell all night long and everything’s covered again. Well, back to bed for all of us now. She’s still up though. And the master, you ask? He slept right through it. Blanche More About: New Year , Happy , Happy New Year , Year , Hairball
Gilbert and Blanche’s first poem
2007-12-31 21:40:00 When we were very young, we lived in an apartment building in a big, noisy city. We weren’t very high up and we had nice big windows to look out of, so it wasn’t so bad. We spent our days viewing the surroundings and watching the odd bird fly past. Inside, we concentrated on play and sleep (and of course eating). It was lots of fun to jump up high on bookshelves, sit on the exercise bike seat (we called it “the perch”) and chase fur mice around the parquet floors. Blanche liked to sit on top of the tv in the bedroom and I loved to ride up and down the hallway in the laundry basket that my master and mistress were delighted to push for me. Sadly, there are no pictures on the computer to document those happy times. They do exist in photo albums that we rarely look at any more. So we are very happy that a fancy, new digital camera has come into our lives and we can all be seen in our glory from now on. Here’s the very first poem our mistress, Kat w... Meet the Dane Street Kats!
2007-12-30 02:40:00 Meet Blanche, Gilbert, Daisy and Red. Blanche is a beautiful all-white domestic short-haired (DSH) feline of dubious age (approximately 15 years). She is the queen of the Hyggehus on Dane Street . Gilbert is a handsome all-black DSH of 14 years. He is the softy, the sensitive one, who eats to feel good. Daisy is a sweet, black and white DSH farm-kat. She is 11 years old, but looks 2. Red is the jester of the Hyggehus. He’s a long-haired, ginger tabby with big, round gold eyes. He’s 7 going on 8, but acts like a big baby. He’s spoiled rotten and gets away with murder. These are the Dane Street Kats and this is their blog. More About: Meet
