History of the Doberman Pinscher
2008-02-17 03:57:00 It never ceases to amaze me just how interesting the history of many dog breeds are. This is especially true of the Doberman Pinscher. Many years ago, during the 1800s, a man named Louis Doberman from Thuringen in Germany had in part of his career undertaken the task of collecting taxes. Every day Herr Doberman would set out on foot and literally walk door-to-door asking people to pay their overdue taxes. He was also a night watchman and needed a dog that would provide protection on his rounds. Needless to say, these jobs were obviously quite rough and Mr. Doberman needed an excellent guard dog to accompany him on his rounds. He then set out with the goal of creating such a breed by cross-breeding several types of breeds to create the perfect companion - guard dog. The most likely mix came from the old German Shepherd and the German Pinscher, with later crosses using the Greyhound, Weimaraner, and the Black & Tan Manchester Terrier. (more…) More About: History
What is the normal amount for a 100 lb dog to drink per Day?
2008-02-16 07:04:00 A recent question prompted me to want to share this with you if you are concerned about how much water your pet drinks. Here is my answer: Question: I have a Weimaraner dog, he’s 100lbs. He’s a big dog though, bigger than normal, not overweight, and drinks four full water bowls a day (about 128 oz) He also has been eating a lot. We give him three cups of food in the morning and three at night, and he’s been eating our other dogs food, and our cat’s food, he’s been eating uncontrollably. Are we feeding him enough, or is there an underlying problem. Does this warrant a visit to the vet? Kids and Puppies Training Tips
2008-02-14 06:45:00 How To Combine Playtime With Obedience Training Puppies are like children in many ways because they are so cute and cuddly most of the time. They need constant care, supervision, and a lot of affection. Having both together, your kids and your dog, especially during playtime, require extra supervision and patience. The key is to teach your child how to play with the puppy and for the puppy to understand that he needs to listen to the child the same way he listens to you and the other adults in the family. Parsley Water Builds Your Dog’s Immune System
2008-02-06 05:01:00 You may consider if dogs are truly meat eaters or can a dog be vegetarians? The problem is whether an all meat diet which is mainly protein provides a balanced variety of nutritional needs of a dog. If your dog is getting sick or vomiting after a meal you may now know why and you may need the parsley water recipe. What is a vegetarian dog? There is a commonality of a human being’s physiology to that of a dog and it would make sense for dogs also to be vegetarians. As for my dog unfortunately before I brought her home, she was raised on Wal-Mart’s Old Roy and macaroni and cheese. Unfortunately not a good diet to grow a puppy into a health adult dog and her health suffered for it. Disaster Preparation for Dogs
2008-02-02 21:57:00 I do not know about your area but storms in my area are getting very severe and intense these days. The winds blew down portions of my fence in the backyard, and with 80 mph winds anything can happen. This winter has been a disaster in many parts of the country knocking down power lines, flooding cities, and nasty hurricanes destroying property. Before Hurricane Katrina, there was no law that said that all pets and service animals needed to be evacuated, rescued, and sheltered during an emergency or disaster. Are there Any Known Holistic Treatments for Cancer in Dogs?
2008-01-17 06:04:00 We all know that temporary treatment and relief from cancer in dogs is possible but a permanent cure is not, especially when metastasis has occurred and affected vital organs. Small localized cancers are curable and a dog can live a normal life. Benign tumors do not technically fall under cancer and can be removed surgically without fear unless of course a vital organ is involved. Treating cancer, including canine and feline cancers with chemotherapeutic drugs is beset with dangers. Most veterinarians are against the use of these drugs since the affects are sometimes worse than the ailment. Mostly veterinarians suggest chemotherapy if the dog owner insists and is adamant to prolong the life of his dog, irrespective of its quality. If you are looking for a better quality of life rather than just adding the number of years, you should look towards a holistic treatment for cancer. A natural approach is devoid of toxicity, has no side effects and attempts to fight cancer cells in a natu... More About: Dogs , Treatments , Cancer , Holistic
