Puppies in our future
2008-04-24 23:09:00
I've been watching Ingrid the last couple weeks for signs that she's in the family way and I am cautiously optimistic that she has little buns in the oven. A couple weeks after she was bred she had a bit of morning sickness and today she definitely looks thicker in her sides. Also her mammory tissue is fuller. While I'm not 100% positive, I do think the chances are quite good at this point. She'll have an xray about a week prior to her due date near the end of May.This is an exciting breeding. For one reason, we used frozen semen from our past black champion, Kirby. While this is an outcross breeding, I think both parents will compliment one another. It will be interesting to see if we get any blacks. I expect these puppies to be heavy boned with very large pretty heads and great pigment. Here is Ingrid with her litter of 6 babies she had last year.

First attempt at making a Pug dress...don't laugh (:
2008-04-22 03:35:00
Ok, well I didn't get it quite right the first time but Ingrid was a good sport (and model) none the less. Making clothing for a dog was more difficult than I thought. I started out by taking all these measurements and then had to make a working template. It was a pain to be honest, but maybe next time it will be easier.I made the ruffled dress portion a bit too wide and long. I'll have to adjust that next time. That is if I can get my sewing machine fixed. I had to finsh sewing some of this dress by hand. I haven't hand sewn in ages. I ended up tired of hand sewing and disgusted in my Singer Featherweight for having bobbin casing problems, so I didn't finish the hem line. But you'll get the idea...Anyway, here is Ingid modeling my mishap for me.

Antique Pug Image Tags
2008-04-18 03:44:00
I just love finding vintage and antique images of Pug dogs. They are hard to find and somewhat rare. I thought I would share a few in my collection by creating these tags. Each tag prints out at 3 inches x 2 1/4 inches. They would be ideal for gift tags for Pug lovers. If you are a 503c rescue organization and interested in these tags to print out and sell them for fund raising events, let me know. I'd be happy to provide them free to rescue organizations. For more information and a larger view of the tags just click the image or more info button below.

What is a Health Guarentee?
2008-04-17 00:01:00
What is a Health Guarantee? It?s actually a oxymoron when you think about it. I don?t know of any breeder that could, with 100% certainty guarantee the future health of any puppy they produce. It doesn?t matter how much health testing or the choosing of the best bloodlines, no breeder can guarantee a dogs health throughout it?s lifetime. The term ?warranty? would be a better term. When you purchase a puppy it?s not the same as purchasing a new car where you get a bumper to bumper, 10 years or 100,000 mile warranty. Dogs are living, breathing beings and as such breeders can?t give you a guarantee that they will never face some sort of health issue. With a warranty or as some breeders term it, a health guarantee what you are getting is an agreement that if the dog should face a genetic health problem, the breeder will do one of several things. Some breeders may offer to pay a limited amount of money toward the Vet costs associated with the health issue, though I believe this is rare. Mor...

The waiting begins...
2008-04-14 19:14:00
We recently bred our gorgeous champion girl Ingrid via frozen semen we have stored on a champion black male, Kirby we owned. I'm excited to learn if the breeding took. I won't know for sure for several weeks. She did have a bit of morning sickness the other morning which is actually a good sign.I'm keeping busy with other things in the meantime and just being patient until I know for sure. Here are pictures of the wonderful pair. I anticipate some gorgeous babies from these two. Hopefully we'll have some all black puppies as a result. It's been quite awhile since we have had a litter with blacks, so that will be exiting! I'll keep you all posted (:

Meet Beebers
2008-03-31 23:20:00
I'd like to introduce you all to Beebers aka Regals Honey Bee. I call her Beeps for short. For those interest in her linage, she has Sheffield and Blackberry Wine (Oliver) behind her. Quite a nice pedigree indeed. I've co-owned her for some time with my handler who gave me a wonderful surprise by letting her come live with us. She's a sweety! She has so many wonderful qualities such as a beautiful correct front, incredible pigment and such a pretty face. She'll be bred likely in the fall. Isn't she a pretty girl? We sure think so.

Once in a lifetime Pug...
2008-03-19 01:59:00
This is Ingrid...a once in a lifetime Pug girl who is such a love bug and SO smart! We took her to her pre-breeding checkup today and the tech said let's weigh her. I told Ingrid to go stand on the scale. So she saunters over and sits on the floor scale LOL! She cracks me up...too smart for her own good. She caused quite the commotion at the Vet office as all the techs managed to swarm her to pet her squishy face and fuss over her. Oh my word...Ingrid ate it up! Here she is playing with her favorite toy.

My little girl is growing up
2008-03-16 16:42:00
Ah, they grow so fast! Even faster than their human counterparts ): Bindy will be 6 months old next month and wow how time has flown by. She's growing into quite a little beauty though and I'm excited to see how she will do in the show ring. She'll likely go live with my handler for training in about a month or so. I'll miss the little sprite, but I know she'll bond really well with Judy and have a great time struttin' her stuff in the ring. This breeding was such a great match that we'll be repeating it probably this spring or early summer!.

"Madeline" a little felted Pug
2008-02-18 21:57:00
Madeline, or "Maddie" as she likes being called is my newest Pug creation. She's a whopping 3 1/2 inches tall and made completely from felted wool. Needle felting takes hours upon hours of work, but the result can be delightful! All of her features are created from wool as well including her darling little curly tail. I then created her little gingham dress and bow. Her dress straps are made from sparkly silver tinsel. You can see more pictures of her in my Etsy store:http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.ph p?listing_id=9654792

So you want to breed Pugs?
2008-02-13 01:19:00
I received a question from someone today who has an interest in breeding their Pug. They will remain anynomous of course. But I really appreciate getting questions like hers because it gives me a chance to share the realities that breeders face. I thought I would share my reponse with all of you as well. Her Question:We have a 14 month old male Pug. We are looking to breed and have questions and concerns about this. This is the first pug we have ever owned and would love to talk to an experienced Pug owner. My Reply:Breed ing Pugs isn't easy and there is quite a bit involved that the adverage Pug owner wouldn't be aware of. For starters you would want to have an ideal Pug that conforms to the Pug standard set forth by the AKC and PDCA (Pug Dog Club of America). Also a healthy Pug. Otherwise, you wouldn't be bettering the breed. You also have to ask yourself why you want to breed. If you have a passion for this breed and want to work towards the betterment of it as far as health, temp...

Large Pug Painting on Cupboard Door
2008-02-02 17:53:00
"WEE!"I finished up this large painting today and wanted to share it with you all. It's done on a large 16 x 21 inch wood cupboard door. I then distressed the inner edges and sealed it with matte sealer. It's been awhile since I've done a Pug so it was fun to do a little painting today. It's titled "WEE!". Imagine the fun this little Pug is having riding his/her very own seahorse! This one of a kind painting is listed on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View Item&item=370019566970

First Time On the Table
2008-01-15 06:14:00
Bindy has been practicing a bit stacking on the table. She was nervous her first time as you may be able to see in this picture, as she's down in her pasterns. For those that may not know what I'm talking about...pasterns are the ankle area on her front legs. See how what looks like her "wrists" bend on her front foot? They shouldn't sink like that. But it's to be expected for the first time on the table. Everything pretty much sinks LOL! Anyway, I was so proud of her. She didn't go flat-as-a-pancake as some puppies do their first time up on the table. I'll share another picture once she gains more confidence and you'll see a difference.Want to subscribe to my blog and receive new posts in your email inbox? Maybe Black Puppies in Our Future...
2008-01-12 23:14:00

Snow Days
2008-01-12 23:07:00
The puppies loved the snow. Both Babalu and Bindy were zipping around like their bums were on fire! Bindy thought someone had given her a giant snowcone when she came upon the huge snowball my son made. She would of ate the whole thing if she could (it was like 4 feet in diameter).
