History hovawart
2007-03-01 13:23:04 An obscure German breed has the opportunity of becoming a “Yuppie Puppy” - one of the new fad breeds. What makes a breed a candidate for “Yuppiehood”? High price and rarity are two salient reasons. A “conversation piece”and a great breed. The Hovawart happens to be both a conversation piece and a great breed. It is one of the newest of the old breeds or, if you prefer, one of the oldest of the new breeds. Its written history goes back to l230, but the breed existed before that time. Now that is antiquity! It was’nt reconaized until l936. And that is contemporary! The breed was “reinvented” in l922. A big strapping dog, it comes in three colours: golden or blond, black and tan and solid black. The males are an honest 28 inches at the shoulder. Temperment
2007-03-01 13:23:04 The Hovawart is an outstanding watch dog and somewhat reserved towards strangers. They make excellent family dogs as they are totally devoted to their family. They are a working dog breed, and require a consistent and loving yet strict training and meaningful activity throughout their lives. Miscellaneous A Hovawart dog in a forest. The Hovawart does exceptionally well in search and rescue, tracking and working dog activities. The females are generally lighter in build and often love agility. In training and especially obedience work the trainer must keep positive reinforcement in mind all the time, as the Hovawart is not as eager to please as many other working dog breeds. The Hovawart may easily become reluctant if training is built only on punishments. The owner of a Hovawart should ideally have previous experience in owning and training a dog and as such the Hovawart is not usually suitable as a first dog. Appearance The Hovawart is a large dog. Dogs are 63-70 cm (24 3/4″-... More About: Men , Tempe , Perm , Temp
