2007-06-23 03:20:00 It's true, Pippy is finally home! After a quick turn around, Pippy's condition improved so much that we were able to take him home yesterday evening! I would have posted this news yesterday, but we were slightly preoccupied with our furry friend ;).Pippy is doing great thus far; he's been extremely tired and sleeping most of the time, but occasionally the old mischievous Pippy comes out. The doctor told us "Pippin shouldn't be jumping around onto tables, counter tops, etc, until he heals a bit more".... well, Pippy had other ideas because he broke that rule 2 minutes after coming home!We can tell he his understandably weak though - he tried to jump on to the kitchen countertop like he normally would, but only made it 90% of the way and fell back down :( He's ok though... he just suffered a minor dent to his enormous ego. Given Pippy's personality, he's going to need constant supervision over these next few days so he remains calm and content, as opposed to his normal c... More About: Home
Pippy Purrs Again!
2007-06-21 06:16:00 We had a chance to visit the hospital again this afternoon and get an update on Pippin's progress. All-in-all, a very positive visit!He was much more active this time; moving around the table, trying to jump at the birds outside, and leaping from our arms onto the table. Now, it's good to see him active, but he's doing this with an IV in one paw and a belly bursting open!He was also starving for affection. He snuggled into our laps rolling around to find the optimal petting position, while rubbing his face on every inch of our clothes. We even heard a soft purr rumbling from his belly.... a good sign that things are healing nicely!It was great to see our Pippy start to come back to life!Unfortunately it is not likely that Pippin will be home tomorrow. As the vet stated "he ate a little bit, but not as much as we were hoping for". 2007-06-20 01:07:00 My girlfriend and I finally got a chance to see Pippy this afternoon - post-surgery. We've called the office a half-a-dozen times since he went into surgery yesterday, so I'm sure they're getting sick of us by now.It was good to finally see our Pippy, but a shock nonetheless. He appeared disoriented, understandably upset, and very worn out. He was looking very pathetic with a blue bandage wrapped around his left paw to hold the IV needle (which he didn't like one bit), and with his tail tucked between his legs.The vet said he hasn't moved much, and hasn't been very vocal since the surgery - all of which is understandable considering it has been just over 24 hours.And the reason for the surgery? A thread.... a lousy cotton thread that Pippy tried to eat.Apparently this is common in cats. What can happen - and happened to Pippin - is a thread will get wrapped around the base of the tongue, and at the same time move into the digestive track - throat, stomach and intestines. ...

The vet said it is still too early to make any definitive judgment call on his condition, but he did make it through surgery without any issues. I'll give more details tomorrow when we visit him.My girlfriend and I would like to thank everyone who has shown there support already! The messages of thoughts and prayers have been overwhelming in the few hours since we posted information about Pippin's problems.We also got a better idea of the costs for the vet visits, surgery and the hospital stay that is required.... Now, we would pay anything in the world to save our Pippy, but the costs are ridiculous!! So, despite the fear of appearing greedy and unkind, we have decided to start a "Pippy Recovery Fund " for those that wish to help with the costs of this ordeal. To be honest with you, I am truly amazed of the popularity that his site has gained. Who would have thought that my cat would be an internet phenomenom (at least that's what he tells us he is)?Aside from my amazement, the real reason I am posting here is to inform everyone that Pippin will not be posting on the site for at least a few days.Over the weekend, Pippin became sick; beginning on Saturday morning, he was vomiting every hour or so. Obviously concerned, my girlfriend (the female captor) and I took Pippin into the vet on Saturday morning. There they evaluated him and told us that it's probably one of two things; a) he has a simple stomach bug, or b) he ate something, such as a rubber band or string, that is stuck in his intentistines.
