Some other body lanauge your cat may show an what it means.
2010-02-18 17:25:00
When your cat kneads with thier paws it is a sign of contentment. This is thought to be from when wild cats would knead an area to make a comfortable to place to sleep or from kitten behavior to stimulate their mother's milk production. When a cat rolls over to expose it's belly to you this is the ultimate sign of trust. Animals do not like to expose their bellys an by doing this they are telling you they have comlete trust in you.Your cat may rub noses or cheeks with you. They are showing you affection towards you. When a cat gets in low to the ground ( an also usually display a twitching tail ). Look out they are getting ready to pounce. This can be two fold. It can be an act of playfulness or sometimes the cat can be aggravated an it means to back off. Learning your cats behavior will go along way in determing whcih one your cat is displaying. Many people believe whan a cat rubs their legs they are looking for attention, a treat, or they want to be feed. What is your cat telling you with their tail?
2010-02-18 16:07:00
What is your cat telling you with their tail? If  your cat tail is low or tucked down this generally means that the cat is frightened. If this also accompanied by flattened ears an possible a growl be aware this might mean the cat is getting ready to pounce an defend itself, it would be a good idea to slowly back away if you notice these signs. If you cat is showing a long swishing movement with their tail this indicates the cat is annoyed an it is a good idea to give your cat some space. If your cat tail is held high an is coming to greet you this is telling you ?I am happy an glad to see you? ?Welcome home?  ?Please feel free to pet me? There are people who believe a quivering of the tail is the ultimate form of love an only shown to the cat?s most favorite people. When a cat twitches their tail it usually means they are very interested in something. The movement of a favorite toy or maybe something they caught sight outside a window. Does your cat scratch the furniture even while using a scratching post?
2010-02-18 15:53:00
Many people get confused when they see their cat use the scratching post they provided an than even after using this they will than go ahead an proceed to do the same thing to the furniture. Many people are at lost an assume the cat just is using the furniture to maintain their claws in addition to the scratching post ( this habit can be broken by using a spray bottle with water or shaking a can full of coins ). However the cat may be using the furniture in addition to the scratching post for attention. That right your cat may be telling you ?hey look at me I want some attention.? If this is the case you  need to find out what your cat is trying to tell you. It could mean play with me or pet me. Learning to communicate with your cat will go along way in correcting bad behavior.

American Bobtail a brieg overview.
2009-07-03 20:39:00
GENERAL:The American Bobtail is a medium to large, naturally occurring, bobtailed cat. It is a noticeably athletic animal, well muscled, with the look and feel of power. It possesses a unique natural hunting gaze that combines with the breed's body type and natural bobtail to give the American Bobtail a distinctive wild appearance. The breeds expression is one of intelligence and alertness. Females are generally proportionately smaller than males with type a more important aspect of the breed than size or tail characteristics. HEAD:Shape - broad modified wedge without noticeable flat planes or doming, in proportion to the body. Cheekbones are apparent. In profile slightly concave curve between nose and brow with good length between brow & ears. Widening of the head and stud jowls apparent in adult males. Brow - distinctive, evidenced by a slightly rounded forehead to eye ridge; brow border is fleshy creating and enhancing the top line of the eye. Eyes - Large. Almost almond in ...

What must you do to prepare for your cat?
2009-07-03 15:43:00
Before bringing your new cat home, prepare places for it to eat, sleep, and eliminate. Purchase necessary accessories such as a litter box, litter, toys, and food and water bowls. Pet-proof your home by keeping toxic chemicals and plants out of reach, and make sure windows are securely screened when open so that your cat cannot escape. Be sure to provide appropriate scratching materials, such as a scratching post, so your cat can stretch and sharpen its claws without damaging your furnishings. Plan to spend time training your cat so that it becomes comfortable with handling and grooming, and learns how to play and interact with people. Provide different kinds of play with a variety of toys, balls, or even a climbing tower. Kittens need frequent attention to socialize them to people and acquaint them with new things and experiences. Careful supervision also helps the kitten learn the rules of the household. If you already have a cat and wish to add another, matching personality types...
Does a cat fit into your lifestyle?
2009-07-03 15:41:00
Cats can adapt to most living situations if proper housing, food, grooming, and exercise are provided. To help decide if a cat is the right pet for you, answer the following questions:Do you rent or do you own your home? If you rent, does your lease allow you to keep a cat?How long is your work day? Do you frequently have obligations after work that would interfere with caring for your kitten or cat? Do you travel? Who will care for your pet in your absence? If you have multiple pets, will adding another cause you to violate restrictions on the number or types of pets where you live? Will your new cat get along with your existing pets? Do any family members have allergies to pet hair or dander?

Pet-induced falling injuries
2009-03-30 16:44:00
A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that an average of more than 86,000 people are seen by hospital emergency departments every year because they trip and fall over their pets or their pets' paraphernalia. This accounts for approximately 240 visits per day, but only 1 percent of the total trip-and-fall injuries. Most of the injuries occur at home, and children and seniors were more commonly injured. The vast majority of these injuries are preventable through common sense pet ownership. The following are some recommendations for pet owners from the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. Vigilance is the best way to avoid trips and falls. Be aware of your pet's location relative to your own when you are moving around. Make sure walking areas are sufficiently lit so you can see your pet (or other obstacles in your path.). Night lights are helpful. If pets tend to congregate around you...

America's #1 Companion Gets Respect The CATalyst 2009 Top 10 Cat-Friendly C
2009-03-30 16:42:00
PHOENIX, American Animal Hospital Association Conference What makes a cat-friendly city? The love and care cats receive, says the CATalyst Council. Today, the recently formed organization is set to raise the stature of America's number one companion, the cat, by announcing the CATalyst 2009 Top 10 Cat-Friendly Cities. "Cats are the most popular pets in the United States, and yet the frequency of veterinary visits for cats is less than that for dogs. That's why I'm such a big supporter of the CATalyst Council and its important work. It's important for every pet, including cats, to see their veterinarian regularly. Ensuring your cat's health through regular veterinary visits is of upmost importance," explains Dr. Jim Cook, president of the American Veterinary Medical Association. "By identifying the cities in America in which cats receive the best care and attention, I hope CATalyst will inspire every cat owner, nationwide, to give their pets the respect and attention they've e...

N. Dakota Responds to Red River Flooding
2009-03-30 16:40:00
The state of North Dakota is coordinating animal evacuation and sheltering efforts and is not currently asking for volunteers to assist in areas affected by record flooding, according to Dr. Deidre Qual, DVM, MPH, MS Dipl ACVPM, Emergency Program Coordinator and Assistant State Veterinarian for the North Dakota State Board of Animal Health and the state Department of Agriculture. An Emergency Management Assistance Compact request, which allows for the sharing of resources from state to state, has been submitted by North Dakota officials requesting the Minnesota Medical Reserve Corps Veterinary Unit to assist in veterinary medical care of evacuated animals at the Valley City shelter. The AVMA VMAT has not been requested or deployed at this time and is prepared to deploy on short notice. North Dakota is anticipating the need to shelter approximately 3,000 companion animals in the evacuation efforts due to the flooding. Check out this great new cat toy.
2009-03-07 01:50:00
Mouse in the House Automatic Cat ToyMouse in the House is designed to play with cats when they are alone in the house. Each year millions of cats are left alone locked in homes and apartments for days at a time with no companionship, no activity and no stimulus. In some cases this can lead to separation anxiety, overeating, laziness, obesity and even health and behavior problems. Mouse in the House can be activated manually by pushing the red button, by either a human or a cat, or by setting the timer to activate toy at set intervals. Upon activation the toy emits small animal sounds to signal the cat that the mouse is coming out. The mouse makes two revolutions of the track and then announces he is done for now with a humorous cuckoo sound. This sequence can be set to occur at intervals from one minute to several hours. The mouse operates on a hidden belt with a clutch so if the cat attempts to hold the mouse it will not hurt the mechanism, in fact the clutch will continue to provi...

CFA Premiership Class
2009-02-27 02:02:00
Altered cats (neutered males and spayed females) are judged by the same standards as the Championship Class . Awards given, e.g. first, second and third, are the same. Altered cats need 6 winners ribbons to attain the title of Premier, but since there are fewer cats entered for Premiership Competition than in the Championship Competition, only 75 points are required to become a Grand Premier. Cats in Premiership are also presented in a Top 10 Final in the all of the rings. Adapted from CATS CENTERSTAGE
