Preview visit England December 2008
2008-12-30 00:52:00 It's been way too long since my last update. It was not a lack of pictures. More a lack of time and energy. The past few months have been very hectic. But hopefully the next year will be a little less hectic and more relaxed.Anyway me and my Mrs. were in England last week to visit a good friend of ours who was staying at his parent's house in Devon around X-mas. We made some trips and I shot some pics. There are more to follow, but here is a little preview from a few that I shot at Bude, North-Cornwall . 2008-08-29 01:20:00 Here are the last selected pics from Parkpop 2008 . This time some pics taken during the performances of Kula Shaker and Sheryl Crow . They both played a good set. With the set of Sheryl Crow we couldn't get so close to the stage, so that's why I had to use the maximum zoom on my lens. That also made it hard to get sharp pictures in a constant moving crowd. Anyway here are the last pics from Parkpop 2008. Enjoy it! More About: Music

Parkpop 2008 The Hague, Netherlands - Intermezzo
2008-07-01 21:29:00 It's been a while since my last posting. Time flies when you're having fun!Although this will disturb the chronology of my postings, this as an intermezzo with a preview from some of the pics I took last weekend during the Parkpopfestival 2008 , one of the biggest free popfestivals in Europe which is held every year on the last Sunday of June. I will try to post some more pics during this week, I also shot some videos. If they came out okay and the sound is not too bad I will post them on YouTube and will make a post about it on my musicweblog BrownNoiseMusic .In this some pics from the Dutch band Moke from Amsterdam. They are a very good live band and played an excellent gig at the festival. The band had their major breakthrough last year and their debutalbum Shorland is selling pretty well in Holland.We had a great time at the festival. Maastricht part 3
2008-04-26 10:45:00 Today part three which will be the last part with some selected pics from our trip last year to Maastricht. There will be a little bit of backgroundinformation, but some pics are just showing some atmospheric impressions.This is inside the Church of Our Lady (Onze Lieve Vrouwe Kerk sorry only Dutch), one of the oldest churches of Maastricht. The current church dates back to the 11th century and the foundations of the western part have been dated back to the year 1000 A.D. It is said that there was a preceding church which dates back to 500 A.D. The church early constructions are Romanesque and the later constructions Gothic. Since 1933 the church is a so called minor basilica.While we were inside there was a rehearsal going on from a music ensemble who were playing medieval music. Maastricht part 1
2008-04-20 01:57:00 I'm still behind with posting pics, but if I can keep up with this speed of three to four postings a week I should be finished within about three to four weeks, I hope.Anyway this time a selection of pics of a daytrip my wife N. and I made last year September to the city of Maastricht in the province of Limburg. It's located at the river Meuse (Maas in Dutch) in the south-east of the Netherlands , close to the border with Belgium and Germany. It's one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and the city is involved in a dispute with the city of Nijmegen in the east of the Netherlands near the German border which is the oldest city in the country. I'm not going to interfere in that dispute. I'll just say that Maastricht together with Nijmegen is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands.Maastricht is a nice city with some nice churches, many historical buildings and lots of nice café's, restaurants and quite some sculptures. 2008-04-13 02:22:00 Now I'm finished with my selection of pics from our trip to Bavaria last year I still have to do some catching up with posting pics. This time some pics from a daytrip I made to the zoo of Emmen, called Dierenpark Emmen or also called Noorder Dierenpark.The zoo is considered as one of Europe's finest and won several prizes. It's sure is a nice zoo. Because I forgot an extra battery for my camera I ended up with a flat battery after a few hours while I would have like to take many more pictures. I'm pretty sure I will go back again to this zoo. So this time you have to do it with this selection. The second serie I will post tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.I think these pictures don't need much comment. 2008-04-10 00:31:00 Well this is going to be the last posting with pics from our Bavaria n trip last year August. This time some pics from a daytrip we made to Herrenchiemsee, a palacecomplex on the island Herreninsel (gentleman island) in the middle of the Chiemsee a freshwater lake. The "Neues Schloss" (New Castle) is the most famous building and was build by order of Ludwig II. But when he died in 1886 it wasn't finished yet. From the total of 70 rooms, 50 rooms were unfinished.The palace was also suppose to be some kind of monument to show Ludwig's adoration of Louis XIV and was meant to be an equivalent of the palace of Versailles. It is also called the Bavarian Versailles.From Munich we took a train to Prien am Chiemsee. This traintrip didn't went so smooth, because thanks to the wrong information of some Deutsche Bahn staff we first ended up in Salzburg, Austria. 2008-04-10 00:04:00 Things are going slow, but little by little we are getting there.In my former post I said that I would update it with some extra backgroundinformation, but when I was checking on the internet I found out that there was not so much more to add, so I decided to skip the update and start preparing the last two post with pics from our trip to Bavaria, Germany last year.In this post you will see mostly pics from Munich and taken at the Englischer Garten (English Garden), one of the biggest parks in Europe and very pleasant to walk through. The weather was very nice that day, so it gave me quite some nice photoshoot opportunities.The street on the right is the Maximilianstrasse (Maximilianstreet). Bavaria part 7
2008-03-02 23:23:00 I'm almost getting to the last pictures from our trip to Bavaria last year. There probably will be one or two more postings and then I'm done with Bavaria. In this posting some pics from our trip around Lake Starnberg or Starnberger See as it's called in German. The main sightseeing places we wanted to visit were the memorial place (the cross in the water) were the drowned body of Ludwig II was found and Roseninsel (Roses Island). The death of Ludwig II until today is still a mystery. Officially his death was suicide by drowning, but he was known as a strong swimmer and according to the autopsy report there was no water found in his lungs. Until today the Wittelsbach-family refuses to solve the mystery.On the way to Roseninsel we also passed Possenhofen Castle (see picture 14) the birthplace of empress Elisabeth ("Sissi"). 2008-01-26 00:07:00 One of the worst flu's I had in decades and a very busy job made that my planned catching up postings were delayed a bit more than I planned short after the start of the New Year. This heavy flu kept me in bed for 8 days.Anyway, here is the first real posting of the New Year.First some left pictures from our Bavaria trip last year August. After this posting I think I'll have pics left for two or three more postings before I'm done with our Bavaria trip. Then I have pics from a daytrip to Maastricht and a daytrip to the zoo and some pics from some kind of art meets science exhibition that I visited last November, plus pics from our four day trip to Vienna, Austria. An update with a little more backgroundinformation will follow later this week.(Update )This time a little more backgroundinformation with the pictures that I took in and around Neuschwanstein Castle, one of the castles built for Ludwig II, the Bavarian fairytale king who lived from 1845 to 1886. The castle was meant as a retreat for Ludwig II and was also an hommage to Richard Wagner, Ludwig's inspiring muse. The castle is probably Germany 's most photographed building and one of Germany's most popular tourist places. Every year it attracts more than a million visitors. We combined our visit to Neuschwanstein Castle with a visit to the nearby Hohenschwangau Castle.Although it's a very commercialized and overorganized tourist place it certainly was worth a visit. 2007-11-05 23:21:00 It's been a while since my last posting. About 7 weeks since my last post. The keyword was (and still is): BUSY. And when there was a bit time I didn't had the energy. It's not that I didn't had anything to post. On the contrary I would say. Still have more pictures to post from our trip to Bavaria, Germany and pictures from a visit to Camp Westerbork, the zoo at Emmen, a daytrip to Maastricht and a 4-day visit to Vienna, Austria last week and I shot pictures this weekend at an open house of Theo Jansen a fascinating engineer/artist who makes socalled kinnetic art. 2007-08-18 16:55:00 It's been a little while since my last post. We came back last night from a 10 day trip to Bavaria, South-Germany. The first 5 days we spend with my friend Frank (Mr. Superfly for close friends), who I met 11 years ago at the kibbutz in Israel. He drove us around and took us into the Bavarian Alps to some sightseeingplaces (mostly castles/pallaces and countryside). After that we spend 5 days in Munich from where we made a few more trips. Mostly to places related to King Ludwig II of Bavaria, because my wife N. is very much interested in this fairytale and (in my opinion a bit tragic) king.Anyway, as soon as I sorted out the pictures I will post a selection. First attempt macro photography
2007-07-25 22:54:00 Noticed that I didn't post for more than two weeks. I was quite busy. N. and I went on a short three day trip two weeks ago. Hardly didn't took any pictures. Until last weekend. I tried my 105mm f/2.8G AF-S VR Nikon Macro lense for the first time. It was my first serious entry in the amazing world of macro photography.I didn't had to go far, I only had to walk a few metres from the living room to the conservatory. There was a 3 to 4 mm little fly sitting on the leave of one of the plants over there. I'm quite new to macro photography, but I soon found out that it's a whole different branch of sport than portrait-, architecture- or landscapephotography. I surely have a lot of trial and error and experimenting to do when it comes to macro photography, but it certainly is exiting.N. is also growing lavenderplants on the outside balcony which attracts humblebees.
