Touchless(!!!) remote control
2008-04-19 08:35:00
Bang & Olufsen has created the new Touchless B&O remote control. Still a prototype, it was designed by Joris Van Gelder. Inspired by the idea of making a remote control exclusively for kitchen use, he wanted to come up with something you didn't need to touch because remote controls are considered to be one of the gadgets that house maximum bacteria.Remote for B&O from Engadget on Vimeo.

Stop drugs. Start running!
2008-03-27 21:15:00
Some runners reported that they felt so good when they exercised that it was as if they had taken mood-altering drugs. But was that feeling real or just a delusion? And even if it was real, what was the feeling supposed to be, and what caused it?Researchers in Germany, using advances in neuroscience, report in the current issue of the journal Cerebral Cortex that the folk belief is true: Running does elicit a flood of endorphins in the brain. The endorphins are associated with mood changes, and the more endorphins a runner’s body pumps out, the greater the effect. For the full article click here

Apple Researching 3D Stereoscopic Displays
2008-03-20 17:53:00
A new patent application from Apple details how to implement a 3-dimensional stereoscopic display. While 3d images have been around for years, Apple points out that computational power has advanced to the point where these true 3d images can be rendered and aminated in realtime. Apple specifically explores the implementation of "autostereoscopic" systems that don't require the viewer to be wearing special glasses or goggles.I'm excited to see with my own eyes this thing!

Hard Candy
2008-03-20 01:32:00
The cover of Madonna's new album may seem promising and kinkier than ever but we will have to wait until April 28th to get it in our hands (or in my case download it).In the album's debut single "4 Minutes" she joins Justin Timberlake in a song we didn't really like. I heard it from various sources even if it's not officially released yet. What I didn't like about the song is that it "cries" to become a hit song without really deserving to be one :-)Hopefully Madonna compiled her new album with better choices than that!A little wait and we'll see...

Unbelievable innovation. Meet Apple's Macbook Air!
2008-01-15 19:57:00
It's here in two weeks and it's beyond words. One year after Apple's announcement of the iPhone, they impressed us again. Apple's CEO (call-me-Santa-Claus) Steve Jobs just announced the release of the new Macbook Air. It's thin as razor! This 13,3" and 3-pound miracle is 0.16 to 0.76 inches thick with a tapered design. The thickest part of the Air is smaller than the thinnest part of the Vaio. It has a full-size keyboard and 13.3-inch widescreen display. It utilizes a magnetic latch for closing and has an iSight camera like Apple's existing notebooks. The screen is LED backlit like the MacBook Pro, along with a keyboard with light sensor. "This is the best notebook keyboard we've ever shipped," said Jobs. "And it's full-sized. And it's backlit.New in the Air is what Apple calls a "multi-touch" trackpad, that works much like the touch interface on the iPhone. Users can move a window by double-tapping and moving, and zoom in by pinching their fingers. "We've also built in mult...

2008 in NY,A pay toilet opens. But not an ordinary pay toilet. The kiosk, made of tempered glass and stainless steel, is about the size of a newsstand is located on Madison Avenue, between 23rd and 24th Streets. The toilet itself is made of silvery metal, and more rectangular with curved edges than the familiar oval shape. Flushing, as on an airplane, is done at the press of a button. And men, take note: There is no toilet seat to leave up. There are toilet covers available. Also inside are a sink, a mirror and a hand dryer. A user has a (generous) 15-minute period of privacy before the doors pop open — with a warning light and alarm going off when there are only three minutes left. In between is an automatic 90-second self-cleaning process, which will be one of the great mysteries of New York going forward, since it happens only when the doors were closed. But the news media was given a behind-the-scenes peek at the process: for one, a sweeping arm sprays disinfectant over the toi...

The ethics of "piggybacking" (or "stealing" a WiFi connection)
2008-01-04 19:23:00
A recently released study by a security firm says that using an open WiFi network without permission is stealing.Network security firm Sophos recently published a study on what it terms WiFi "piggybacking," or logging on to someone's open 802.11b/g/n network without their knowledge or permission. According to the company's study, which was carried out on behalf of The Times, 54 percent of the respondents have gone WiFi freeloading, or as Sophos put it, "admitted breaking the law [in the UK]."It's time to put an end to this silliness. Using an open WiFi network is no more "stealing" than is listening to the radio or watching TV using the old rabbit ears.read more here

Cool promotion
2007-12-13 17:48:00
Brazilians can win one of 10.000 frozen ipods! After decades of popsicle promotions that included prizes printed on the stick, Brazilian ice-cream company Kibon has taken it to a new level by including the actual prize inside the popsicle: they will manufacture 10,000 specially made propsicles, identical in size and color to the actual thing, frozen with iPod shuffles inside. They started to think about it back in March with the objective of putting the shuffles directly in the hands of the prize-winner. "It works like this: the consumer buys an Fruttare popsicle which comes in 10 different fruit flavors," Neto told us, "and may find an iPod Shuffle inside the package," ready to play. However, since people would be able to tell that an iPod is inside by looking at the package itself, they had to find an alternative. The popsicles with prize inside had to be exactly the same as the regular popsicles. The obvious solution was putting the shuffles inside a real popsicle, but this ...

"Experience" the ultimate mind-blowing spectacle!
2007-11-24 21:58:00
Can a live album ever get across the staggering brilliance of an utterly mind-blowing spectacle? Daft Punk's Pyramid tour (or call-me Alive tour 2007), certainly the finest electronic/dance show of all time, is arguably one of the best live performances in any genre by any group -- and if you think otherwise, you weren't there. This recording of a Paris show certainly captures the massive energy generated by blending and tweaking their catalog into submission, but sound was only part of the experience. As such, this is an excellent souvenir, but what's really needed is a DVD and a time machine to see it all again. If you want to see a video from their fantastic last June's show in Istanbul (I-was-there) click here!

ABSOLUT THESSALONIKI!
2007-11-20 19:23:00
This is an aerial photo of "Aristotle Square" in Thessaloniki-Greece. The photo is made by the photographer Andy Glass (a year ago) and was shot in purpose to show the bottle of Absolut vodka. You can check out his work at his site www.andyglassphoto.com. The agency he co-operates with, used it for an outdoor ad that really came out in Thessaloniki. What is more amazing about it, is the fact that there has been almost no retouching of the photo. Aristotle square in Thessaloniki actually looks exactly like this! Amazing coincidence!from zero-zed.blogspot.com

Britney's new album is unexpectedly good
2007-11-10 21:10:00
It's kind of crazy but I do like the new album of Britney Spears "Blackout" and it seems that I'm not the only one. Most of the critics are positive and why not? Her album is full of future hits. The sound is fresh and different and even her voice sounds awkwardly decent for her standards. The quality of the whole package makes me wonder if she helped at all in its creation...
