Mt Hood to Portland OR Daily Photoblog
I am attempting to blog a picture a day from my photography archives. I have lived many places between Mt. Hood and Portland -which spans from the high mountains to the big city, about a 65 mile distance- and am looking forward to posting some of my

Todays picture is of our state animal, the slug. Ok, thats not true. Our state animal is the beaver. But you see so many of these slimy creatures around in the spring and fall, it might as well be. I think they are rather discusting, but interesting anyway. There are many varieties and they are so funky looking, they make a good photo subject!

Missing the sun
2007-11-12 23:17:00
I am missing the summer already. Just a month ago when this was taken, this sunflower was at least still showing some signs of life. Now it is blown over in the present windstorm and rotting away from the wet. Today, the wind is so intense it is leaving all the trees pretty bare. The last remaining leaves are being forced to fall. Sad.

Macro Day - Stamp
2007-11-11 23:40:00
Interesting. Todays Macro Day subject is "stamp". So I know I don't have anything with a stamp on it easily accessible in my archives, so I set out to take a new picture. I come across this old letter postmarked exactly 25 years ago tomorrow. The coincidence with the date was too much to overlook, so it is todays picture and Macro Day submission.

Lens Day- Around the House

This has always been one of my favorite pics of my cat, Kitty Witty. She was so content in her thoughts. Todays picture is my Lens Day submission for "around the house".

Photo Friday- Dangerous
2007-11-09 17:33:00
Photo Friday s topic today is dangerous. This last summer I took a trip to the beach with a group of friends, and when walking along the sand, came across this little jellyfish. It may look kinda cute, but could sting you even in this freshly beached state. Since it was so small, it could have easily been overlooked and stepped on in bare feet. Sounds dangerous, right?? ;)

Inside looking Out
2007-11-08 18:14:00
A few years ago the Portland area was hit by its yearly ice storm and I took this picture, looking outside from in my warm living room. The wind had blown rain water all over the glass, and it had frozen in place. It it todays submission for the Thursday Challange "transparent", even though the ice actually makes it exactly the opposite!

I <3 Geese
2007-11-07 19:54:00
Many daily photo blogs out there have been posting pictures of geese lately, due to their flying south for winter. The past few weeks you can often hear the distant call of the geese flying overhead. I have not gotten a good pic of the "V" in flight, but did have this picture taken at a local park of the attentive animals. I love geese. When I was a kid we always had a flock of geese on our property. Every time I see a group of geese it takes me back.
Moving On
2007-11-06 17:27:00
I always thought that this mushroom, found out in my front yard a few years back, resembled an elf house. Appropriate for today, since I am getting ready to move. New home, here we come!

Photo Friday - Strong

Todays picture is of "Portlandia". Portlandia is located on the front of the Portland Building of 5th Ave. She is noted to be the second largest bronze statue in the United States, behind the Statue of Liberty. The statue itself is 36 feet (11 meters) high and its image of a woman in classical clothing with a trident is derived from Portlands city seal.

Lack of Direction
2007-10-31 17:53:00
I was kinda at a loss for ideas on what to post today. So I took my lack of direction and played off that! This sign is posted in Portlands Pioneer Courthouse Square (otherwise known as Portlands Living Room). It shows the distances and directions to many other large, famous or local locations.

Weekly Shot - Seeing Double
2007-10-28 18:00:00
This has always been one of my favorite Mt Hood shots, and I thought it was quite appropriate for the theme of the weekly shot (seeing double)Taking this was a total fluke too. I did not expect the blue tint or the crystal clear reflection. Just happened to be driving by the lake one day and stopped by. It was just before dusk and the mountain just popped against the sky. Love it!

Catching up....
2007-10-27 17:47:00
This picture is kinda cheating. It is a picture of Silver Falls, down in Silverton OR. Silverton is about 25 minutes east of Salem, where I spent my weekend. So I am playing a bit of catchup on my blogging. Bear with me :)
First frost of the year
2007-10-26 19:33:00
Ok, this is not an example of the ice on my car this morning, but it WAS the first time I had to scrape frost off my windsheild, and the temperature was quite chilly this morning. Brrrr!Have a great weekend, all!

See it Sunday - Sky
2007-10-25 19:05:00
I know, its not Sunday . But I just checked the "See it Sunday" website and saw the topic today. I am slow.I have always liked this picture. The colors are great, but my favorite part is the mist forming below the cloud line.
Lens Day Challenge: Graffiti
2007-10-24 19:32:00
This weeks Lens Day Challenge is "Graffiti " I took this picture in the very popular Hawthorne District of Portland. This is pretty much how the backs of all the signs look, and the poles are littered with flyers for concerts and other get-togethers.

Portland Center for the Performing Arts
2007-10-22 18:30:00
I have a series of pictures I took of the downtown Portland area that I think I will try to squeeze in on days I dont have a photo meme or some other inspiration. Todays pic is looking up in the front lobby area of the Portland Center for the Perform ing Arts . The stained glass dome is really an awesome addition to this building.
View from the Gorge
2007-10-21 17:39:00
Last month I photographed a beautiful wedding above the Columbia River Gorge . The Columbia River separates Oregon from Washington state, and the sun setting in the west was absolutely breathtaking that evening.

Whats that smell??
2007-10-20 22:10:00
Things are very soggy in Oregon right now, and particularly in the more swampy areas. Around many creeks in the Pacific Northwest, low muddy areas provide the perfect home for Skunk Cabbage. It gets its name from its distict "skunky" smell. I think they are really awesome looking plants. So on a hike this year I took the chance to take this pic. And in classic HoodPhotography fashion, where there is a pic of a flower, there is a little spider too :)
