Charleston's Flowers
2008-03-26 14:53:00
These pictures were photographed one week ago in Cypress Gardens and in Down Town and I hope they are not gone by this cold weather we have just now here in Charleston. It's way to cold for the blooming nature and way more too cold for us - me and David - sun spoiled kids from Key West, as we are! We are still not used to this very cool temperatures up here in the "North". :-))

"Wildlife" in Down Town
2008-03-24 14:50:00
In all the seven years I lived in Key West I have not seen one of these cute and rapidly moving Squirrels and here in Charleston they are everywhere - and they amused me very much running up and down the trees and on the walls in one of Down Town s parks, always on the search to find some food.

A Walk on the Wild Side in Cypress Gardens
2008-03-20 15:00:00
In the late 1920's, Dean Hall Plantation in Berkeley County was owned by Benjamin Kittredge as a winter retreat and hunting preserve. Mr. Kittredge especially enjoyed duck hunting in the black water impoundments that were remnants left from the days when Dean Hall was a mojor rice plantation on the Cooper River. The story is told that one day when he was out hunting, he became entracted by the reflection of a red maple leaf in the mirror-like waters of the swamp. This experience inspired Mr. Kittredge to re-capture this image by planting thousands of azaleas, cammellias, dogwoods, wisteria, daffodils and iris along the dikes of the impoundments. He imported winter-blooming Daphne and paid a penny for each Atamasco lily bulb that local children brought him from nearby woods. As the years passed, Mr. Kittredge created the 163 acre swamp garden presently known as Cypress Gardens . The reflections of fuschia, red, white, lavendar, and pink on the smooth black water enthrall visitor...

A day in Spring at Folly Beach
2008-03-14 15:17:00
Beautiful colors of the water and the sky and some people were already enjoying the sunshine. This is the place to be on a day like this!A place, where flying kites is not only for little boys...A place where airplanes meet the clouds......and fourteen pelicans are flying over your head... and you will find some still living shells in the waterand of course, where hubby has to take a closer look to it too - don't worry, we released it back to the sea.The place also, where palm trees are giving a very tropical look to the scene - I felt almost like back in Key West :-)...where the palm leafs have very strong colors... ..where black birds are singing in the limbs......and on the other side is his neighbor singing too, a brown bird. Can anyone tell me the real names for these little cute birdies?Do this plant will have some flowers too? I'm pretty sure they'll do, later in the summer - because just now it's "only" springtime. It's so much fun to spend some time at the beach - and i...

Five Signs of Springtime
2008-03-03 15:21:00
What a pretty contrastMagnolia buds everywhereWe call these pretty signs of spring "snow bells"First DandelionsYesterday's nice weather tempted many people out of their houses - we too.Strolling up and down the streets and the small picturesque lanes in Down Town, I found these five remarkable signs of springtime. If it stays this way from now on, the whole city will be a sea of blooming flowers and trees.I'm so excited to have a seasonal change for once - which I never had in Key West's eternal summer time!

It looks the same like at home
2008-03-01 16:04:00
Walking recently in Down Town Charleston I saw this sign and felt for seconds like I'm back home in Zurich again :-)UBS has its roots as a Swiss Bank, originating in 1747, when its first branch was established in the Swiss region of Valposchiavo. However, the three core components of the company date back to the second half of the nineteenth century. Union Bank of Switzerland, Swiss Bank Corporation, and Paine Webber or their antecedents, were all founded in the 1860s and 1870s. Modern UBS was formed through a merger of the Union Bank of Switzerland and the Swiss Bank Corporation in June 1998. Although the merged company's new name was originally supposed to be the "United Bank of Switzerland," officials opted to call it simply "UBS." SBC had previously built a global investment banking business through its acquisitions of Dillon Read in New York and S.G. Warburg in London. The first chairman of the merged bank had to step down in October 1998 due to the Long-Term Capital Manag...
