He was elevated as director through 'Mass' by Nagarjuna. He proved successful as director as well. On the lines of his mentor Prabhudeva, Lawrence too tried his hand in acting and turned a hero through 'Style'. He also played solo hero with 'Muni'. Now, he played the main lead in the latest film 'Pardhu' a film which was simultaneously made in Tamil as well as 'Pondy'. This time, he played the role of hero alone and gave the choice to direct the film to Madhuravan, unlike earlier films in which the film was directed by himself. Balakrishna as police officer in 'Sadhu'
2008-05-27 09:13:00 Nandamuri Balakrishna's latest film 'Pandurangadu' is all set for release on May 30. Even as the film is about to hit the screen, Balakrishna started playing hero in a film under the direction of Gunasekhar, which is being produced by MS Raju on the banner of Sumanth Arts. 'Sadhu' is the title under consideration for the movie. Though the shooting of the film had begun long ago, the entire unit is maintaining a low-profile, in the wake of MS Raju's successive failures. It is learnt that Balakrishna is playing the role of a powerful police officer in the movie on the lines of 'Rowdy Inspector'. The role would be further powerful than 'Lakshmi Narasimha', the director claims. However, who are playing the female leads and it is still unclear as to who were the other artistes and technicians in the film. Stay glued for more information. Junior NTR in ?Srirama Navami?
2008-05-27 08:56:00 After ?Kantri?s release, Junior NTR has signed in V.V. Vinayak?s film produced by Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan under Vaishnavi Arts banner. Trisha and Tamannaah will be his two heroines. NTR will also star in ?Srirama Navami?, produced by Dil Raju and directed by Sri Vasu of ?Lakshyam? fame. The film will start shooting in October. There?s a strong belief in the Telugu film industry that a director?s second movie never goes as well as his first. However, Dil Raju and NTR don?t believe in this at a time when other producers and actors have feared this concept. Both of them have agreed with open hands to work in Sri Vasu?s second film. Dil Raju is currently doing ?Kotha Bangaru Lokam? with Varun Sandesh as the hero. Source: Galatta
Glam girl Simran happy playing mom on screen
2008-05-27 08:45:00 After giving three back-to-back flops there are no takers for Tamil cinema's former glamour girl Simran . She is only getting offers to play mother, but she isn't complaining. "I don't mind playing mom roles if they have something special. Gautham Menon offered me a good role as Surya's mother in 'Vaaranam Aayiram' and I am also doing Hari-directed 'Seval' with Bharat in the lead. Both the roles appealed to me," Simran, who took a short break from acting after tying the knot with Deepak Bagga in 2003, said. Success eluded Simran when she tried to make a comeback after her son's birth in 2005. She featured in Tamil film 'Kicha, Vayasu 16', Malayalam movie 'Heart Beats' and two Telugu films - 'Okka Magadu' and 'John Apparao 40+' opposite Jai Akash, Indrajith and Balakrishna and newcomer Krishna Bhagwan respectively, but none of them fared well. When she experimented with TV as the anchor of a Tamil reality show, it backfired because she had crossed the wrong side of th... More About: Screen , Girl , Happy , Glam

Ltd., Shemaroo Entertainment Producer: Vinod Suryadevara, Smita Maroo Director: Singeetam Srinivasa Rao Music Director: Singeetam Srinivasa Rao Background Music: Pravin Mani Editor: Ashmith Kunder. The animation film Ghatothkach does not show mythology, that it promises through its promos. The cute animation character Ghatothkach as kid is attracting most of the little kids but the film is aimed towards adults as well because it depicts a love story in animation and animated characters smooching. The script of the film is similar to Ghatothkach released in 1970.. The character Ghatothkach is important in context of Mahabharata but the mythology is missing from the film Ghatothkach- Master of Magic .The film starts with the expected adorable character Ghatothkach growing up in a jungle who has got magical powers and when he grows up he helps the love couple, Arjun?s son, Abhimanyu and Balram?s daughter, Surekha to get together, against the wishes of th... Don Muthuswami Review
2008-05-24 11:57:00 Producer Shakti Samanta Director Ashim Samanta Music Anu Malik Writer Salim Agha Lyrics Amitabh Varma Release Date 23-May-2008 Nowadays, with corporate houses being in the spotlight for their multiple films, one begins to think - whatever happened to producers who built an empire in the 1960s, 70s and 80s? One of the prolific production houses of the era re-emerges on the scene with the Mithun starrer Don Muthuswamy. To put it blatantly, it is a complete rip-off of the Sylvester Stallone starrer, the English comedy OSCAR. But our real concern is does it work as well? To answer that simply - Mithun can never be doubted. The film does entertain and the credit goes to Mithun mainly. He is the life in the film and honestly, there's nothing to look forward to except him Muthuswami's father is on the deathbed and Muthu [Mithun] comes to see him and pay his last respects. The father slaps Muthu and tells him that he has brought shame to the family by being a gangster and that he would d... More About: Review

Though Sashi has been doing the rounds in the media for various social causes such as ?Laadli? and his involvement with the Tv industry through the ?GR8!? magazine, pressure seems to be riding on him with ?Dhoom Dhadaka?. The story begins with the 'All Asian Bhai Meet? being held in Bangkok where the falling sensex of 'Bhaigiri' in Asia is being discussed. In the discussion, a rival Don of Mungi's [Anupam Kher], Fursat Lala [Gulshan Grover], proposes an ambitious plan for a piece of land in Alibagh and puts across a valid argument that it is important to have a waaris(hier), the new generation, to improve matters. Soha is So HOT - Soha Ali
2008-05-23 09:35:00 Whether it's a Kareena, Katrina, Bipasha, Priyanka or Mallika, there's no question about it. Today's Bollywood is all about the 'S': steamy, sizzling, sexy. But even now, there's a new wave of fine India actresses, and they emphasise versatility. In a flash, Amrita Rao went from woman-next-door in Vivah to 'perfect 10 bombshell' in My Name is Anthony Gonsalves, capturing both looks with ease. It's safe to say, we can add another name to this list of up and coming talents: Soha Ali Khan. In Rang De Basanti and Khoya Khoya Chand , she dressed like a conservative girl from the 1950's! But in the most recent issue of Maxim magazine, Soha sheds the good girl look, magically transforming into the sultry vixen from many a young man's dreams. With Soha, it's obviously in the genes. Her uber-famous mother, Sharmila Tagore, was the first Bollywood leading lady to wear a bikini in An Evening In Paris, all the way back in 1967, over 40 years ago! It was Tagore's skimpy two-piece ...

Jannat Movie Review
2008-05-22 09:28:00 Producer Mukesh Bhatt Director Kunal Deshmukh Music Pritam, Kamran Ahmed Writer Vishesh Bhatt Lyrics Sayeed Quadri Release Date 16-May-2008 A ?Materialism versus idealistic simplicity? theme runs heavily through Jannat. So, who wins? If only it were that easy to answer. Such a deep philosophical question cannot be answered in 2.5 hours, and isn?t answered either. So, if you are looking for a conclusion, a closure, Jannat is not for you. I?m sure you could easily replace the cricket-match-fixing backdrop with any dishonest activity and arrive at the same result. But, cricket feels fresh and the season is right, so why not? The dialogues spiced up with references to retired cricketers and some cricketing events in the recent past are good enough to keep you interested too. The climax of the movie reminded me of a 5-6 pages long, Marathi essay I had written in school - ?An autobiography of a soldier?. In the end, my soldier who was taken in as a prisoner of war was released because th... More About: Movie , Movie Review , Review
Iron Man Movie Review
2008-05-22 09:05:00 You might attribute it to 9/11, or simply blame director Joel Schumacher, whose camp take on "Batman" derailed that franchise for several years. But, lately, Hollywood superhero movies have taken themselves awfully seriously. Ang Lee, Bryan Singer and Christopher Nolan have produced solemn, almost morbid versions of the Hulk, Superman and Batman, respectively. Even Sam Raimi succumbed to this gravity in the "Spider-Man" trilogy. Enter Robert Downey Jr., riding to the rescue, a glass of Scotch in his hand and a sardonic smile on his lips. As everyone knows, Downey is not the hero type. Not in his public persona and not on screen either, where his dissipated narcissism has been most often effective in supporting roles ("Zodiac," "A Scanner Darkly," "Wonder Boys"). Downey is one of those actors who likes to doodle in the margins, to ad-lib and fool around, instincts that give Jon Favreau's "Iron Man " movie an immediate fillip. The star's bad-boy past becomes part and parcel of ... More About: Movie , Movie Review , Review
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Review
2008-05-22 08:51:00 The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" takes place one year after the events in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," the initial film in the series derived from the C.S. Lewis religio-fantasy series. In Narnian years, however, that one year represents about 1,300. Fortunately, watching this movie doesn't feel quite that long. Once more we are unceremoniously plopped into the world of the Pevensie siblings: big brother Peter (William Moseley) and little brother Edmund (Skandar Keynes), big sister Susan (Anna Popplewell), and little Lucy (Georgie Henley). They find themselves transported, via a World War II-era Tube station in Trafalgar Square, to Narnia, where last time out they dispatched the White Witch (Tilda Swinton) and were elevated to royalty. (The White One makes a brief cameo here, but she is sorely missed.) The moral of this new movie seems to be: You can't go home again ? especially if you arrive 1,300 years later. The new Narnia is a pale reflection... More About: Review , The Chronicles of Narnia , Prince Caspian
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
2008-05-22 08:26:00 CANNES, France ? ?Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? is a movie for boomers of all ages, though you can bet the bank that plenty of tots will be tagging along with Mom and Dad, Granny and Gramps. Like the 1981 blockbuster ?Raiders of the Lost Ark,? the first in a monster franchise that has spawned two previous movie sequels, a television series, comics, novels, video games and Disney theme-park attractions, this new one was directed by Steven Spielberg, cooked up and executive produced by George Lucas (with Kathleen Kennedy) and stars Harrison Ford as the archaeologist-adventurer-sexpot with the sardonic grin, rakish fedora and suggestive bullwhip. This latest Indy escapade, which was shown out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival and will probably scoop up more money than the rest of the selections combined, serves as a reunion for the principal creative team. Almost two decades have lapsed since the third installment in the series, ?Indiana Jones and the L...
Kissing John was no big deal: Sonal Sehgal
2008-05-17 11:28:00 After making a splash on TV with the soaps Saara Akash and Hotel Kingston, actress Sonal Sehgal is gung ho about her big screen debut. And why not? It?s opposite one of tinseltown?s hottest poster boys, John Abraham, in Nagesh Kukunoor?s Aashayein. Ask about her working equation with John, and she doesn?t mind stating the obvious. ?Oh! It was great working with him. He doesn?t have any starry tantrums? When we first met on the sets he said, ?you look familiar? and I laughed. I?m sure he?s got better things to do than watch TV.? Kiss and tell Ayesha Takia?s loss became her gain; Ayesha walked out of the movie because she was reluctant to do a kissing scene and Sonal stepped in. So, is the kissing scene still there? She says, ?Yeah. But why so much fuss about it? It may have been a big deal for her, but it wasn?t a big deal for me. In fact, we didn?t even have to do too many retakes. It is just part of your job ? similar to doing dangerous stunts or crying on screen.? Was wor... More About: Kissing , Deal

Shah Rukh licks my feet: Aamir
2008-05-17 09:51:00 Aamir Khan is at it again. After taking pot-shots at Big B and his film Black last year, this year it is Shah Rukh Khan?s turn to become his punching bag. A few months back, when Aamir was asked what he would like to ask King Khan, he replied, "I would like to ask Shah Rukh how it feels to be No. 2." While SRK took it in the right spirit, there certainly seems to be no love lost between the two superstars. The latest comes in Aamir's blog where he talks about Shah Rukh licking his feet. Before you think Aamir has lost it, the actor clarifies that he is referring to his dog, Shah Rukh, in his Panchgani home. In Aamir's own words: "Shah Rukh is licking my feet and I am feeding him biscuits every now and then. What more can I ask for? ?Now, before you jump to any conclusions, let me add that Shah Rukh is the name of our dog. And before you jump to any further conclusions let me add that I had nothing to do with naming him. In fact, Shah Rukh is the dog of the caretakers of our ho... More About: Feet
SRK unflustered by Aamir's blog
2008-05-17 09:48:00 The battle of the blogs has just intensified, with Aamir Khan proclaiming he has a dog named Shah Rukh. However, though the unflattering comment sent shock waves across the film industry, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is unfazed, saying humorously that it marks a new trend. Commenting on the whole episode, Shah Rukh said: "Earlier people used to name their children after famous people. Somebody naming a dog after a known person is a new beginning in that direction. I don't have a copyright over this name if used non-commercially." Read: Shah Rukh licks my feet: Aamir Khan The superstar, who owns the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders, is right now busy with IPL matches. However, a close friend of the superstar, on promise of anonymity, vented his unhappiness. "Aamir's megalomania has been brewing for a while. Will Spielberg take a walk on the wild side?
2008-05-17 09:14:00 The director has said he's out to challenge himself in his 50s. The results could be fascinating -- if he's really willing to take the risks. Steven Spielberg , who at 22 was hired by Universal to a long-term contract, started out his career as the teacher's pet of the Movie Brat generation. With the unveiling of his first Indiana Jones escapade in 19 years today at Cannes, he's proffering yet another polished apple. It's been something of a class reunion lately. Francis Coppola made his first film in 10 years, "Youth Without Youth," a muddled mood-memory fantasia that attempted to recapitulate the handmade approach of his "Rain People" days. Martin Scorsese brought out his Rolling Stones documentary "Shine a Light," which hearkened back to his apprenticeship as editor of rock documentaries such as "Woodstock." Brian De Palma made his Iraqi docu-thingamajig "Redacted," which, in its shape-shifty experimentalism, recalled his earliest, French New Wave-influenced movies such as "T...
