Weather Update Jan 29th 2007
2007-01-30 11:41:02
If you have been enjoying the cold temperatures and every once in awhile snows then the possibility for a good week looks great for you.  The Cold temperatures dont appear to be leaving anytime soon and the Rex Block (High) that has been blocking storms for the last 2 weeks will finally let in some shortwaves for Chances of light snow starting Tonight and lasting into the weekend.  The models are generally pointing to the Eastern Highlands and Central Mountains for Best chances fo Light snow but they are definetely indicating low QPF (precip) amounts.  If the thought of pleaseant temperatures and Clear skies is your current day dream fantasy then keep day dreaming for a little longer, eventually the Northern Flow will deter and we will get those decent temperatures. My current day dream is temps in the 70 degree range with the threat for thunderstorms.  Looks like I have a long ways to go (2 months) before I get any of that.  lol.  Stay Tuned… -gerrit

The Cold snap continues throughtout Southeast Idaho.  High temps reading only at Upper Teens and Lows still hovering the zero mark.  It is cold out there and the only good news I have for you is a warmup by Mid week where we could see Low 30’s which will seem pretty warm compared to what we have now.  It is greatly welcomed.  As the temps start to Climb we could see Fog developing due to the snow melting and weak inversions.  If fog does develop and the temps lower below freezing then we could see freezing fog, but for now will just go with a slight warmup.  No Weather concerns as of right now for storms.  The high pressure has been dominating the area and keeping storms to the North.  Just think,  in 2 or more months we will be back to the 60 degree temps and gradually higher temps as the months go on.  Eventually all the Flies,  Bees and Wasps will make it back along with the birds and other wildlife.  The 4 wheelers will come out in full force and the Water skiers, hikers a...

Decent snowfall occuring throughout the Upper Snake River plain and Island Park area.  Thus far since 1pm today we have received about an Inch of new snow.  The band of moisture isnt moving that much, so my guess is we should get near 2 inches by the end of the day if not more than 2 inches.  The temps remained cold and didnt rise to any noticeable temperature.  Currently a temperature of 16 reads for my area.  I saw the extended forecast and by next weekend we look to get near the freezing mark and maybe even a little above.  Current forecast calls for  high pressure to again dominate the region with below average temperatures and hardly any storm concerns.  The plains are getting pounded by snow and Ice and currently 53,000 are without power and up to 25 deaths due to extreme conditions of Ice and snow and temperatures.  For More Info on the Southern PLains Ice and Snow Storms Please Visit= http://wwwa.accuweather.com/news-top-head line.asp?partner=accuweather&travele r=0   Tha...

Weather Update Jan 19,2007
2007-01-28 23:39:02
The weather around southeast Idaho is slowly warming up.  Temps may hover the freezing mark by sunday but as soon as it warms up it will cool down as fast.  We had about a 1/4 inch snowfall from Wednesday thru Thursday.  The actual conditions were quite phenomenal.  Skies were partly to mostly cloudy with steady snowfall occuring.  Bascially is the Barometer wasnt so low it would have just been like a Weak Marine layer.  Shockingly enough the snow accumulated up to about a 1/4 inch.  Having lived here shorter than 3 years and seeing stars at night during a steady snowfall I have to say it was very interesting.  The coming storm for this weekend looks to be small.  Mountain areas only expecting to see 1-2 inches.  From what it appears we will be lucky to get 1 inch.  There really is no concern for a Convergence event so expectations are very little for accumulating snow.  Basically we will get somw occasional snow showers and by Sunday the storm will be over and as the storm moves ea...

Comet McNaught ?Visible to The Naked Eye During Sunset?
2007-01-28 23:39:02
Well Come t McNaught is becoming more and more visible during Sunset .  Some photographers are taking advantage of this “Very Rare” opportunity and are catching some amazing shots.  I hope to take some shots over the next few days and will hope to catch some great shots of the Comet and tail behind it.  This Comet some believe is on a path to collision with the sun, but due to Uncertainty it is unknown due to little knowledge of size and Orbit.  No matter what, this is a great way to make time pass by during the sunset and is great opportunity for those to tinker with there camera’s in hope to catch the Comet moving over the horizon.  It is said that Comet McNaught might even become visible during daylight hours and could make for even better photo opportunity.  I have saved a few links for your enjoyment and learning pleasure.  Here they Are::::   1. StormTrack Discussion on Comet McNaught http://www.stormtrack.org/forum/showthrea d.php?t=10613   2. Nasa’s Java...

The Rant & Rave

American Idol -vs- Rosie “Donnel    Today I started out at a lab for an Insulin Resistance test and was Forced to watch the ever so unpopular “The View” staring Rosie O’donnel.  Reason being (forced) was due to the amount of people there and me not wanting to change the channel.  Well I havta say I was baffled at what I was hearing by Rosie O’Donnel.  Basically she came down really hard on FOX’s Number one show American Idol and came down even harder on the Judges of the show especially Paula Abdul.  Rosie I think was trying to catch an audience of maybe 5% of out 100 that watches american idol that do feel offended by the show and actions behind the judges.  Sadly Rosie seems to like being in the Media spotlight and loves the negative attention.  Unsuprisingly most day shows today immeidately jumped on the Comments by Rosie and pointed it out to the world.  Just when you thought the negativity was only with Donald Trump, Rosie aimed her “Vi...

Weather Update Jan,17,2007
2007-01-28 23:39:02
The day started out partly cloudy and by 1pm the snow showers began.  Accumulations ranged from a trace to almost a 1/4 inch.  The temps were a bit higher today with 20+ degree readings.  The forecast calls for another Blast of arctic air but the blast wont be as cold as this last one.  A pacific storm is in question for the coming weekend/week, thus far the GFs models indicating plentiful moisture but forecasters going with more of a dryer QPF standpoint.  We should warm up this weekend somewhat,  readings will be anywhere from the High 20’s to low 30’s.  We welcome any warmth happily.  Packed snow from last week is still on the streets due to the very low temperatures.  Very little to no melting has occured thus far.  I will update on the coming storm soon.  Stay Tuned. -gerrit Download Our Wall Cloud or Lightning Series Wallpapers at the following URL= http://www.severeidaho.com/gallery Enjoy

American Idol has Begun.
2007-01-28 23:39:02
Finally after months of waiting, America n Idol has returned and started out in Minneapolis/Minnesota.  The common off tone singers and Out of the Ordinary people are in full force taking aim at Simon, Randy and Paula looking for there way to Hollywood.  There were many favorites as far as the bad singers go and I cant pick just one,  But I can Pick a singer that nailed her audition and that is the 16 year old (aka crackbaby).  This girl has got the lungs and Vocal chords to sing.  I would be shocked if she didnt make it all the way through, Not to win because we still have much more talent to See, but she should easily sail through. American Idol is taking on another 2 hours tonight from the Rainy state “Seattle ‘ Washington”.  This show and state will be marked as the Worst Audition State in all of Simons state to state auditions.  You are gauranteed to see the Strange, Crazy and way out of wack type of people in this show,  But I also gaurantee some will amaze us...
Frigid Cold Temp?s
2007-01-28 23:39:02
Sorry for the lack of updates for the last 3 days.  My Internet service was down and finally today started back up…  Back to the latest.,…. The Weather in Southeast Idaho has remained mostly Clear with temps hovering near zero during the day.  Lows are ranging anywhere from -6 thru -14 and thus far the winds really havent been a factor, but when they are around the Wind chills drop to near -20 thru -30.  We did have a wind chill warning from Yesterday afternoon thru today and has since expired.  The temps will remain dangerously frigid till at least Next weekend. The latest forecast calls for several cloudy days but no Big precipitation makers for at least the next 7 days.  So for now, will highlight temps as main story and go with that.  Streets remain mostly icy to partly icy around town.  The snow clearing took longer than expected so most snow on the streets was packed in by cars which in turn is now ice.  I was able to Plow my driveway yesterday but my beanie mask o...

October 4th 2006 Severe Weather Summary for Southeast Idaho
2007-01-28 23:39:02
October 4th 2006 was a very interesting day none the less.  From a typical Summer day with Thunderstorms predicted the sky remained clear and Cumulus and Cumulinimbus clouds were nowhere to be found.  I was monitoring the Weather by Radar and satellite hoping for some action near My area and I happened to notice a cell developing Near Twin Falls, ID.  The First 5-10 sweeps of the storm by radar indicated it was growing ever so steady and slowly taking more of a Northeast Track.  The weather conditions were basic for a summers day.  The Lifted Index was around -2 and Dewpoints were in the 30-40 degree range, again nothing impressive.  The storm started taking on a Mesoscale Indication and suddenly around 12pm the storm idicated a tornado.  Multiple Reports were recieved by the National Weather Service Pocatello.  Multiple touchdowns indicated by spotters and hail up to an Inch were reported.  Map Below:   As the storm moved Northeast I finally decided to Intercept the storm for Phot...
