2007-03-24 03:26:00
Thunderstorms have been added to Sunday Afternoon and Evening with a Chance for rain 50%.  Would say for now that this looks good and would expect at least several cells for this day.  The storms will be general in nature, still cant rule out small hail and maybe a gust or two as storms breakup.  Thunderstorms ...

A Rather warm yet cloudy pattern has been the story for the last several days.  On the days that thunderstorms were forecast the atmosphere just couldnt get unstable enough or at all.  Considering this is the 3rd day of spring, things still look good as far what is to come.  There is speculation about a ...

Well after about a week of looking at the statistical models for Thunderstorms and various other sources, it looks as if Tuesday Afternoon/Evening/Night might be the first Shot at thunderstorms for Southeast Idaho.  Tuesday marks the first Day of spring, therefore thunderstorms will be an excellent start to the spring season.  NWS Pocatello and the ...

The temperatures have been record breaking lately.  Temps have been reaching higher than 65 in most areas and Spring looks like it might finally be here after all.  Its been dry for a short while here in Southeast Idaho.  So dry that Farmers and Local residents with big yards have already started to bring out ...

BUST!!!! lol
2007-03-14 03:00:00
Yeah, the titles right.  There was no Convection anywhere near Idaho today, hence the title “Bust ”.  Instead of thunderstorms we got hammered with winds.  The winds were ranging from 10-30mph with gusts to 40 and sometimes even higher.  The clouds did have a linear look to the east but they were too far away for ...

Weather Update March 8 2007
2007-03-10 00:09:04
As mentioned in the prior discussion, temps have climbed a bit.  Highs range anywhere from 45-55 degrees.  A very welcomed warmth since most all winter wwe have seen extreme lows and Cold readings.  The snowpack is basically melted from the 5000k elevation range and lower.  The common sight of brown grass is everywhere and thus far the next coming storm looks to be all rain for The snake plain region.  Elevations higher than 6-7k feet will still see pretty much all snow.  The first mentioning of Thunderstorms has been made by NWS Pocatello.  Looks like areas South of Swan Valley could see morning thunderstorms in the Morning Saturday.  Seeing as its 2 days out things can still change and depending on Ground temps and the strengthening storm the chances could increase somewhat,  But after looking at the statistical models, I dont see anything that would lead me to believe there would be thunderstorms at all.  Nonetheless, The NWS see’s it and I must say it is nice to thundersto...

Quick Update March 9th 2007
2007-03-10 00:09:04
As I had originaly thought,  Thunderstorms have been removed from Tommorows forecast for the Extreme Southeast Corner of Idaho.  No other updates really,  Temps are still nice (45+ degrees) and the coming storm will be mostly all rain.  Tommorow looks to be a wash out as I had plans to go riding and the onslaught of rain will occur in the morning.  Might change to sunday instead, however its going to be hellishly muddy.  Owell, cant really complain tho.  Sray Tuned… -gerrit

Update
2007-03-05 00:06:03
Temps remained chilly today with Mostly to partly cloudy skies.  Temps will gradually rise Starting tommorow and should get to around the low 50’s.  The Current Forecast calls for a decent storm on wednesday with snow in higher elevations and Rain in the Snake river plain.  Not expecting any convection as the models dont indicate anything for much or all of the U.S.  Expect Warmer temps and a wet pattern starting Mid week.  In the last 3 years The Month of March usually starts off the convective season for Southeast Idaho.  Usually occuring in the last 2 weeks of March.  Usually the case is fast thawing of the ground to better help lifted indices and warmer temps.  This is not a gaurantee for storms,  But after a small deal of research and looking thru the Severe Thunderstorm events,  In most cases the earliest Thunderstorm whether severe or non severe occurs usually around the Last 2 weeks of march.    A small reminder,  SevereIdaho.Com’s Peak season is from June thru O...

The weather around Idaho is settling down.  Mild temperatures should start Pretty soon as Temps will get back into the 40s and possible 50s.  A High pressure is taking place over our region and will keep all the storms to the north and we will dry out considerably.  Next possible Wet Pattern will take place late next week with mostly rain being the story.  Could spring be starting early finally?  Im sure we will find out soon enough.    Stay Tuned… -gerrit

Slight Chance for Thunderstorms or Thundersnow from 3pm thru 10pm This Afternoon and evening.  Some snow may be heavy at times throughout today.  NWS Pocatello only expects 2 inches for Snake River plain, however Im seeing a little more as currently there is about an Inch of snow on the Grass, still to mild to stick on the street but that will change quickly.  Heavy snow will be on and off throughout the Snake River plain and Ongoing in Higher elevations.  So If you hear a rumble of thunder and the snow starts to come down very heavy youll know its what we call Thundersnow.  For more on Thundersnow Please visit= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thundersnow Weather trend will remain Mostly cloudy with a chance for snow each day this coming week.  No toehr highlights for now… Stay Tuned. -gerrit

Weather Update Feb 25 2007
2007-02-25 12:01:05
As you can see by the Latest SPC Convective outlook, there is a small chance for General Thunderstorms In Idaho.  The Outline covers Southeast Idaho, however the NWS Pocatello calls for Southwestern Idaho to see the thunderstorms rather then us.  I still think there is a bit of a chance anywhere from 12 noon thru 7pm,  I will be monitoring the weather for this and will let you know of any Update s.  Other than Thunderstorms, a strong Low is expected Early this Morning into Sunday Night.  Higher elevations above 5000 feet can expect Heavy snow with Lower elevations seeing maybe 1-3 inches.  All Next week looks wet as far as Forecasts go.  Snow each day pretty much for the Snake river plain, some days there will be a rain/snow mix, but it should mostly be snow due to almost average temps.  Stay Tuned…   -gerrit

Weather Update Feb, 21, 2007
2007-02-22 11:59:01
Possible significant winter storm on the horizon expected for Mainly Thursday Night and Into Monday. Currently 2 inches expected tommorow night (thursday) and then Friday the forecast calls for Significant Accumulations.  Im thinking the NWS is waiting another day before determining how much snow can be expected.  The Southeast Highs, Upper Snake Highlands and Central mountains are already under a Winter Storm Watch and this should change over to a warning by Tommorow Morning.  The Storm which is located just off the Northern California Coast is expected to stall over our area and with a Substantial moisture amount some area’s may see very rough driving conditions starting around Late Afternoon tommorow.  Temperatures will start out Mild but quickly turn to snow by Early Evening around most of Southeast Idaho.  I do believe we may get a Snow & Blowing snow advisory for The Snake river plain due to Strong winds after the front moves in and possible Heavy snow bands.  Stay ...

Weather Update Feb, 17, 2007
2007-02-19 11:57:01
A small disturbance will move thru the area on Sunday.  With this disturbance we could start out with Rain and then precipitation will quickly change to all snow by Evening.  There is the possibility for 1 inch around the snake plain and 2-6 inches for the Higher elevations.  If a wind convergence sets up, we might recieve more than an Inch.  The Models indicate very little precipitation and even forecast a split which in turn might result in no precipitation.  Not a big weather maker at all and it is noticeable by the local NWS pocatello website with no Warnings/watches posted.  The end result is the stormy Pattern looks to possibly make a return as the High pressure is pushed east and the Stormy Jet Stream is allowed back over our region.  No Big weather makers on the horizon yet.  Stay Tuned… -gerrit

Weather Update Feb 15 2007
2007-02-16 11:55:02
Not Much going on really with the weather.  There is a storm on the horizon and will impact our Region tonight into Friday, however temperatures will be mild and will most likely barely reach the freezing mark.  Thus expecting Mostly rain with a possible mix of precipitation later tonight.  There is abundant amounts of moisture with this storm and the only remarkable point of this storm is orographic forcing which in Turn will Favor the Eastern Highlands with anywhere from 8+ inches to a foot.  The snow level should remain near 6k feet as temperatures remain mild.  The only big concern is wind for our area.  Winds are already increasing throughout the snake river plain and By Friday morning we should see Warning Criteria winds with up to 50mph gusts.  Thus,  blowing and drifting snow for the Higher elevations above 6k feet.  In the long run,  The weather remains pretty much the same.  Threats of Rain and wind with Mild temperatures should continue throughout the week and into the we...

Isolated Thunderstorms occuring Just Southwest From My area.  After watching radar intensely the Thunderstorms seem to be moving Northeast and if this is so, I may be in for a little treat.  NWS Pocatello sent out a short term warning for the Magic Valley earlier and concentrated on Isolated thunderstorms with Gusts to 35mph and small hail and frequent lightning being possible.  My Winter SDS http://texastailchaser.com/SDS/  has been extreme lately so something like this has gotten me very excited regardless of the Thunderstorm strength.  =)     If the storms do occur near my area, I will setup in the back yard and try to get some shots.  Will update this ASAP if I do indeed get lucky.    Cross your fingers… -gerrit

Weather Update Feb,12,2007
2007-02-13 11:53:02
Last night was a mear glimpse of whats to come.  I say that because the storms fizzled out 20 miles before getting to my area.  It was nice to see convection occuring so closeby.  Turns out This morning I wake up to 3 inches of snow on the ground and the snow was coming down moderately.  The Small Wave came down from the Northwest and moved Southeast clipping the Upper snake river plain and causing several accidents due to the Wet Snow and Icy conditions combined.  I havta say that beofre the plows got to some areas that I drove over were pretty darn slippery.  Quite a suprise since All winter till now I finnally almost lost control.  The day was rather active with several Snow showers with sleet combined.  Some snow melted and most of the streets got cleared up nicely.  The Big story is what is to come on thursday.  A polar Low is expected to plunge south to our area.  Thus far 2 models indicate this along with another model pointing to the system moving further south.  What we can...

Weather Update Feb 8th 2007
2007-02-10 11:51:02
The warmup is continuing with temperatures reaching 40+ degrees.  The combination of the rain and warm temperatures today have increased the melting effect of snow anywhere from 5500 feet and lower.  Currently yards are turning to small ponds and runoff is noticeable with River levels gradually rising.  The Mild trend looks to continue with each storm a threat for rain below 6k feet.  The High pressure that has been dominating our region for quite some time now is being broken down by shortwaves moving thru and the forecast is that the High will eventually get out of our way and may open the stormtrack for our area, therefore increasing the threat for rain and some Mixed precipitation with the colder of storms.  Friday and Friday evening looks to be the Biggest threat for rain and snow mix with most likely no accumulation for snow around the snake river plain.  For now, Mild conditions continue with a threat for rain.   Stay Tuned. -gerrit

Weather Update February 4th 2007
2007-02-05 11:46:01
If youve noticed that the temperatures climbed a few degrees and you were pleased with the Climb then you may be in for a shortlived treat.  I know there are those Winter Enthusiasts that hope for Freezing temperatures and Major snowfall and Im not about to crush those hopes, But in the next few days thru Tuesday the temperatures are going to rise steadily.  Its uncertain how high but you can count on Above Freezing temperatures anywhere from 32-38 which the chance for rain if any moisture can penetrate the High pressure that has been dominating our Region for weeks now.  Keep in mind the rise in temperatures will also be shortlived.  Being so early in the season you can still count on temperatures to drop back to below normal readings and Receive more snow.  Due to my Winter blues and hopes for a Spring to develop quickly for thunderstorm threats, a rise in temperatures is a great relief for myself.  Speaking of Spring Coming Early,  The groundhog did not see his shadow this year a...

2007-02-03 23:44:03
First Huge El Nino influenced Tornado Outbreak Occured early this morning at around 3am in Central Florida .  As with the New Fujita scale this is looking like an F2-F3 tornado that caused most of the damage.  Full Details Can be Found at Fox News…. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,24975 8,00.html For Weather Survey & Maps & Warnings / Watches Issued for The Central Florida Outbreak Visit:  http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mlb/surveys/02020 7/index.html   Due to the Outbreak Occuring at 3am I dont expect to hear of any stormchasers intercepting the Central Florida Outbreak.  One of many reasons include Rain wrapped tornadoes which are hard to see and Most times you can see a night time tornado is when the Lightning Bolts strike and that still isnt enough.  The Stormchasers and Meteorologists and weather watchers alike at Stormtrack.Org are discussing the Outbreak, Please visit StormTrack for more Info: http://www.stormtrack.org/forum/showthrea d.php?t=10864 Thanks for stopping...

Wind Chill Warning Feb 1st 2007 Thru February 3rd 2007
2007-02-02 23:43:02
A wind chill warning has been Issued for many Snake Valley Counties.  The concern for Gusty Wind s with Below Zero readings calls for Dangerous conditions that can lead to Frostbite (within 30 minutes or less) or even death.  Temperatures will drop dramatically this evening thanks to an Arctic Blast from a Low that moved in from the North (backdoor low).  The drastic decrease in temperatures might result in some School closures for thursday and Friday, Stay Tuned to Local TV news and Radio for info.  Information on the Wind Chill warning can be found via= http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/warnings.php?wfo= pih&zone=IDZ020&pil=XXXWSWPIH&# 038;productType=WIND%20CHILL%20WARNING All other Weather Information can be found Via= http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/pih/   Stay Tuned… -gerrit

Weather Update Jan 29th 2007
2007-01-30 11:41:02
If you have been enjoying the cold temperatures and every once in awhile snows then the possibility for a good week looks great for you.  The Cold temperatures dont appear to be leaving anytime soon and the Rex Block (High) that has been blocking storms for the last 2 weeks will finally let in some shortwaves for Chances of light snow starting Tonight and lasting into the weekend.  The models are generally pointing to the Eastern Highlands and Central Mountains for Best chances fo Light snow but they are definetely indicating low QPF (precip) amounts.  If the thought of pleaseant temperatures and Clear skies is your current day dream fantasy then keep day dreaming for a little longer, eventually the Northern Flow will deter and we will get those decent temperatures. My current day dream is temps in the 70 degree range with the threat for thunderstorms.  Looks like I have a long ways to go (2 months) before I get any of that.  lol.  Stay Tuned… -gerrit

The Cold snap continues throughtout Southeast Idaho.  High temps reading only at Upper Teens and Lows still hovering the zero mark.  It is cold out there and the only good news I have for you is a warmup by Mid week where we could see Low 30’s which will seem pretty warm compared to what we have now.  It is greatly welcomed.  As the temps start to Climb we could see Fog developing due to the snow melting and weak inversions.  If fog does develop and the temps lower below freezing then we could see freezing fog, but for now will just go with a slight warmup.  No Weather concerns as of right now for storms.  The high pressure has been dominating the area and keeping storms to the North.  Just think,  in 2 or more months we will be back to the 60 degree temps and gradually higher temps as the months go on.  Eventually all the Flies,  Bees and Wasps will make it back along with the birds and other wildlife.  The 4 wheelers will come out in full force and the Water skiers, hikers a...

Weather Update Jan 21,2007
2007-01-28 23:39:02
Decent snowfall occuring throughout the Upper Snake River plain and Island Park area.  Thus far since 1pm today we have received about an Inch of new snow.  The band of moisture isnt moving that much, so my guess is we should get near 2 inches by the end of the day if not more than 2 inches.  The temps remained cold and didnt rise to any noticeable temperature.  Currently a temperature of 16 reads for my area.  I saw the extended forecast and by next weekend we look to get near the freezing mark and maybe even a little above.  Current forecast calls for  high pressure to again dominate the region with below average temperatures and hardly any storm concerns.  The plains are getting pounded by snow and Ice and currently 53,000 are without power and up to 25 deaths due to extreme conditions of Ice and snow and temperatures.  For More Info on the Southern PLains Ice and Snow Storms Please Visit= http://wwwa.accuweather.com/news-top-head line.asp?partner=accuweather&travele r=0   Tha...
