It's only after you get to know them that you start to realize.....hey....they are not as "normal" as you once thought them to be. Ever thought the same thing? That's the strange thing about perception and reality. Which brings up another issue... Is perception reality? I've argued very often that it is. Take the very simple example that I'm giving here. We all have an idea of "what" we sound like, or "how" we look like. It might be that we think that we are ugly eventhough other's think that we are beautiful. So who's perception wins? Theirs or yours?I'm willing to bet that it's your perception that wins....What a shame... If I could only see myself in the positive light that other's see me in....thought du jourNote about the photo:So this is one of the photo's that I will be submitting ...

We can see one-eighth of it above, but what about what’s below?”I must say that I am a little stressed today! As some of my readers might know, I sometimes take executive headshots at the company that I work at. I'm proud to say that my work has been published in trade magazines, newspapers and newsletters. Although I've done this a couple of times, I ca't help but feel nervous each time I am called upon to take photos of new executives.Tomorrow, I have to take headshots of the new Chief Financial Officer! To be completely honest, I'm a little bit scared of him!...lol...its true...he's very business like and although he knows me by name...I'm not so sure we have that "connection" to make a good photo....!I'll post pictures from the photoshoot later this week. Wish me LUCK!thought du jourNotes about the photo:This is a photo of the Sen...

New Material for my blog - MUSIC!!
2007-02-14 02:41:00
Djavan Ao Vivo (1999)Starring: Djavan As my regular readers can tell, my blog is not just about photos, its not just about my rants, my efforts at poetry, or my attempt to make you see things my way...I figure there's no reason why I should not share some of my favourite pieces of music with you. While I LOVE Jazz and the Blues, I am completely in love with Brazilian music. From time to time, i will post links to music that I listen to in the hope of bringing something new to you. This one is sung by the ever popular Djavan, a Brazilian musician who makes some of the most beautiful music. To say that he is popular would be an under statement. Djavan who was born in a favela in Rio de Janeiro sings some of the most meaningful music ever written in Portuguese. His music has been played in the West by Al Jarreau and The Manhattan Transfer. in Brazil, his music has been recorded by the greats such as Gal Costa, Chico Buarque and Daniella Mercury just to name a few.Come on... take a cha...

The Freedom of Hope

Click on the picture to view a larger version:Thought of the Day:Hope is the worst of evils, for it prolongs the torments of man.- Friedrich NietzscheThe beautiful thing about hope is that we can lose ourselves in HOPE. It's the one thing that keeps us alive and makes us take that other step when we feel we can take no more.Whatever our troubles and fears are, as long as we have hope and dreams, we can escape to another place, leaving our troubles behind. Some hope for food, for water, for a roof over their head...And me? What do I hope for?Well, my recurring dream is that I find you and me, slow dancing within a ring of fire, in a the room of a burning house... We're doomed, you and I... My HOPE though, is a simple one....... IF true love truly never ends, I HOPE to find in my after life... you.thought du jourNote about the photo:This photograph was made earlier this year on one of my trips to the City Of Timmins which I fly to for work assignments from time to time. Love and Jealousy are Sisters...

Click on the photo to view a larger version of the pictureThought of the Day:Jealous y in romance is like salt in food. A little can enhance the savor, but too much can spoil the pleasure and, under certain circumstances, can be life-threatening. ~Maya Angelou ...sometimes, just the very thought of someone is enough to drive us to do crazy things. And, being driven to do crazy things is not limited to normal people like you and me. Doctors, professors and yes, even astronauts fall prey to this.American spacewoman Lisa Nowak was charged with attempted murder after driving from Houston to Orlando to confront the woman that she thought was romantically inclined with a space shuttle pilot that Lisa had her eyes on.The New York Times says that what Lisa Nowak did destroys the "cherished image of astronauts as superior individuals who can cope with stresses that might crumple the rest of us".The Times says that it's "unnerving that she drove more than 900 miles to confront a woman she dee...

Click on the photo to view a larger version of the pictureThought of the Day:“True love doesn't have a happy ending, because true love never ends.”AnonymousAs kids, we are taught to play nice, share our toys with the other kids at the playground, eat our vegetables.... and if we don't have something nice to say, well, we don't say it....But anytime we stop ourselves from saying what we feel, we prevent our partners from knowing us.To spare heartbreak, we hide our true feelings. And when you hide what you feel, you end up with regrets...Don't lose that little voice inside your heart, because if you do, your secret is safe with yourself. If tomorrow never comes, what good is knowing that you love him if he'll never know? thought du jour Notes about the photoThis photo was inspired by wanting to try something new. The lens is out-of-focus, the shutter speed is too slow, and the lens is dirty. There are so many things that are technically wrong with this photo. Does it really ma...

Or are relating very well to somebody Else's issues. Either way, didn't want to ask any specifics.Thought that you will enlighten me if you feel like it."Why am I pre-occupied with these thoughts? Question: Why are some people pre-ccupied with poems of love? Answer: I guess they are because they are in love...? Question: Why am I so interested in love, heartbreak and sadness? Answer: Because I................ ? Let's be serious.... I'm not sharing that bit about me yet...Notes about the photo:I really enjoyed my photo series on Florida, but they were mostly snaps. Click on the photo below to view a larger picture.Thought of the Day:Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. If you look hard into every dark corner of a person's life, you will find that they are not as innocent as you believe them to be. The fact is, most people don't realize that they aren't as innocent as they think themselves to be.Have you looked into the mirror?I highly suggest that you do it.As you look at your reflection, you start realizing that what you look like in reality, and how you perceived yourself to look like are completely different. You realise that perhaps, you have been pretending to be someone else.It is very humbling for someone to point out that what you say and what you do are two different things. It is humbling to be branded a liar.Let's remember though, that there is NOT one of us without sin. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone...thought du jourNotes about the photo:This photo was made on Reddington Beach , one of the many beaches...

Thought of the Day:Nothing is easier than self-deceit. For what each man wishes, that he also believes to be true. - Diane ArbusClick on the photo below to view a larger picture.Who owns love?A thought occurred to me as i was driving...Do you ever really own LOVE or does LOVE own you?Or, is LOVE something we rent, something that we own just for a moment....? Think about it...It's not LOVE's heart that is broken when the relationship comes to an end. I understand that sometimes in life, we loose the things that we LOVE the most. But if we "owned" LOVE, it would never have to go away. When in LOVE, we're always waiting for "love's answer"... love doesn't wait for our answer. It's not a "two way" street. It's more like a "dead end"Unlike a car or a house that we rent, we never really know when our partner will stop loving us. There is no definite date. It can come in a sudden moment. And when it arrives, it's a train wreck. A real mess. In most cases, the writing is on the wall,...

Thought of the Day:The ear tends to be lazy, craves the familiar and is shocked by the unexpected; the eye, on the other hand, tends to be impatient, craves the novel and is bored by repetition. -Wystan Hugh AudenClick on the photo below to view a larger picture. After reading the quote from Auden and realizing that the "eye gets BORED by repetition", I figured I would create a short series entitled "Flor ida " to give both myself and my readers a break from my pictures of Ontario, Canada. This photo was made from the Sheraton Orlando overlooking Ivan hoe Lake in Orlando. The photo itself does not contain a whole lot of detail as it was made with a very simple Sony "point-and-shoot" camera. What I am more excited about it the break in the clouds, as if the gates of heaven was right there on the right. Are you from Florida? I would love to hear from you if you live around the Lake Ivanhoe area or anywhere in Florida. I'm always looking for tips on great places to visit in your wonderful...

Click on the photo below to view a larger picture.Thought of the Day:A good photograph is like a good hound dog, dumb, but eloquent. -Eugene AtgetIn case you haven't realised, I've been shooting a lot of photographs recently that are very simple in composition. I try to have a minimum as far as "points of interests" in the photograph. I like the wide, open spaces that my photos afford. You know, pictures of the city are beautiful, but pictures of the country side....now, they really let you dream.Dreaming, perhaps that's what I do a lot of these days. Dream. I'm actually quite excited these days about sleeping, because I want to get to the good part. The dreams. Here's a question. What do you dream about? Is your dreamworld beautiful or scary? I'd really love to hear from you. If the pictures or text move you in anyway, I'd love to hear from you.My dreamworld is beautiful, and my dream lover...that's a story for another day.thought du jourP/S Are you visiting this blog from F...

Love is like grass...
2007-01-31 02:53:00
Thought of the Day:Knowing trees, I understand the meaning of patience. Knowing grass, I can appreciate persistence.”Hal BorlandGrass bends to accommodate the strength of this earthly force that no man can see or touch. It has no physical form, no taste and it is un-tameable.This invisible power sweeps across grass land, across great oceans and across vast deserts. The only proof of its existence is the effect that it exerts on the landscape. Trees are uprooted, ships...sunk and entire sand dunes can be moved by this invisible force. There are times like today when I feel that I should be like this humble blade of grass. An oak tree stands and provides everything from man and animals shelter from a storm while the humble blade of grass gets whipped about in this same storm. Yet, one bolt of lighting, and this proud oak tree is no more. The blade of grass on the other hand will rise again the next morning. And even if the rain and the wind were to come again, as it surely will, the...

Stop looking back to move forward
2007-01-27 23:22:00
Thought of the Day:The thing that's important to know is that you never know. You're always sort of feeling your way. -Diane Arbus...and isn't that the truth? You just never know...Today I have nothing to write about with regards to photos or photography. I have no poem about a lost love. Instead, I am writing about love, the thing that moves us and makes this world go around.I've realized that sometimes...in order to more forward, you have to stop looking back. As tempting as it might be to gloss over and romanticize every past moment spent with that special someone, the tendency is to glamorize every second of every moment spent. And sometimes there's the opposite....things weren't as bad as you remember them. Old flames never die...they just become smouldering embers instead of raging fires, ready to start up if you give it a chance. Why do we spend time in the past? Its because its whats MOST comfortable. But L-O-V-E isn't safe.We can't trust that it will stay the same.All...

Luck has everything to do with it...
2007-01-18 03:19:00
Thought of the Day:It is a peculiar part of the good photographer's adventure to know where luck is most likely to lie in the stream, to hook it, and to bring it in without unfair play and without too much subduing it. James Rufus AgeeI'm not a serious photographer. Heck, there are moments that I dream about taking photography seriously and pursuing it on a permanent basis. The question is.... will I enjoy photography quite as much as I enjoy it now? Let's see. To actually get into the "business" of photography, I have to get:1) Better at taking pictures.2) Better at selling pictures.3) Meet all my business objectives.4) Meet with clients.5) Negotiate with clients and contracts.6) GET PAID.It might do us all some good to read "Best Business Practices for Photographers" written by John Harrington. URGH! Question. So where will I find time to enjoy the art of photography? Which brings me to today's quote... "A good photographer's adventure (is) to know where luck ...
