Why do we have to face problems?

Thought of the Day:"For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else? Ralph Waldo EmersonYes.... It has been a long time my dear readers.... A reader and friend of mine (Robyn) sent me a private email yesterday... she said.... "your readers need you"...  I must admit.... with the pressures of work, I had forgotten about this blog, and how I used to live to write my thoughts. I've have wondered about you folk from time to time... are the faithful still there.... ? Are there new ones? Who knows. What I do know is that I've lost my job here in Vegas, and am faced with having to go back home. I spent the first day shocked an unable to do anything... the next day was better and now the third day, I have some concrete plans. In talking to a dear friend of mine, he said to me...."Today's challenges are tomorrows teachers".... a very interesting and poignant phrase.  Well, it was more eloquently put than how I've explaine...

Gosh, it's been forever since I posted anything good let alone ANYTHING!Right now, I'm scrambling to write something before getting dressed to get to work.... another 3 days before our new tower opens here Vegas. Scary times. Lots of work still to be done.I was thinking about how far I've come from the hole that I dug for myself. I'm getting better, inside. Regardless, I've emerged myself into photography. The picture above is one that I took of a local music artist. She's released her cd and the cd cover and pictures on the inside are all taken by myself!Very exciting stuff!Aren't you proud of me? Thought of the Day:" You can close the windows and darken your room, and you can open the windows and let light in. It is a matter of choice. Your mind is your room. Do you darken it or do you fill it with light?"My friends back in Toronto, Canada have packed away their summer clothes while I'm still running around in shorts and sandals. It's a tough life but someone has to live it. I spend a lot of time in the desert. It is beautiful. I spend a lot of time meditating these days. The desert is a strangely beautiful place that allows me to focus and center myself. I fill myself with positive emotions, and remember where I came from. I remember how I got here. It all started with a thought....well, more like a question.I've learnt that positive thinking is a mental attitude that creeps into the mind, thoughts, words and images. Positive thinking was the single most condusive energy to my personal growth and my success. It is a mental attitude that expects good and favorable results....

Thought of the Day: "Love isn't someone you can live with..... it's someone you can't live without".....I apologize dear reader for not writing and updating you on my travels. I have thought of you but when there is so much in life to experience, there is not enough time to write about them. When I look back at the past, I realize that much of what I wrote before was written from a position of pain. It was my effort to rationalize what I was feeling. Today, I smile as I sit here at my breakfast table, eating my cereal. My life today is different from what it was. Positive thinking has changed my perception and outlook on life. What caused the change? It was a desire to be happy. We all have a set amount of time on this earth. You can spend it either in sadness, or you can take your destiny into you hands and mould your future.I choose the latter.thought du jourNote about the photo:If you had told me a few months ago that I would have the opportunity to get press credentials to sho...

Thought of the Day:"He who controls the present controls the past, he who controls the past controls the future." George Orwell. I was talking to a friend of mine who lives in Minas Gerais, Brazil last nite. I haven't talked to her since I left Canada and moved to Las Vegas. It's almost two months now. She asked me..."So tell me everything.... I miss talking to you.... How is your life?" I began to describe it to her.... I said.... Well... I work for an amazing company in Las Vegas.... I have a dream job. I get paid a ridiculous amount of money. I have a great boss..... The company loves me. I get to do lots of photography..... and as I listed the benefits of my new life...... it sunk in.... This life I was describing sounded perfect.....  This life I was describing was mine. MINE. Less than two years ago... my life was in shambles.  Today, it's completely different. What ch...

Persistence like a sledgehammer

Thought of the Day:?What do you first do when you learn to swim? You make mistakes, do you not? And what happens? You make other mistakes, and when you have made all the mistakes you possibly can without drowning - and some of them many times over - what do you find? That you can swim? Well - life is just the same as learning to swim! Do not be afraid of making mistakes, for there is no other way of learning how to live!?Alfred Adler quotes I was watching a wrecking crew the other day take down an old building. A guy with a huge sledge hammer was swinging the tool in an effort to bring down a wall.First swing? nothing happened? just a small indentation in the wall?Another swing brought about a crack in the wall?. A couple of swings later? a small hole in the wall?. He could now see the other side of the wall?. A couple of minutes later, the wall which once stood proudly has been reduced to a rubble of bricks and mortar. The guy scrambles over the pile of rubble that was once a wall a...

Thought of the Day:?From a certain point of view our real enemy, the true troublemaker, is inside.?Tenzin Gyatso, The 14th Dalai Lama quotes (Dalai Lama, b.1935)What do you do when you?ve spent your life trying to do the right thing, only to find out that you were wrong all the while? (It?s an open ended question so feel free to respond)What do you do when you?ve been alone for so long that your skin just screams out that it?s had enough of being alone/My skin and soul need a nice cool breeze to blow over the hot desert sand here in Las Vegas. I?ve spent enough time building fences around me heart until I figured that fences were not strong enough?. So I started building a fortress wall and felt quite satisfied until the fortress wall got breached and my heart got broken again?.so I built a moat around the exterior of that wall, I built a castle and started wearing full body armor.Up here behind the secure walls of my castle, I cast a watchful eye for the enemy but it gets lonely si...

Looking into my crystal ball?

Thought of the Day:?Losers live in the past. Winners learn from the past and enjoy working in the present toward the future.?So there?s a girl in my new office that looks just like this girl that I talk about in my blog from time to time during my "better days". The same height, the same body?. She's almost a body double. Just my luck!It made me think of what I used to call ?the better days?.It also made me re-think my definition of ?better days?.Have my better days all already happened? Are there no more "better days" that I can look forward to?The reality is that our ?better days? have not been spent like a box of Kleenex tissues. Being wistful about the past or hopeful about the future can sometimes be counter productive. Why?Well, we all ?hope? to be happier in the future. ?Tomorrow will be a better day? we say?Lest we forget, while hope IS a good thing?. Hope also leads us to believe that the ?now? is not as great as what might happen in the future. One thing is for sure? you ha...

I visited Paris tonight....

Thought of the Day:Paris is a hard place to leave, even when it rains incessantly and one coughs continually from the dampness. Willa CatherThe more I travel the more I realize how little I know. My pre-conceived notions about the world around me has been created while I have been in a "mental Galapagos". As I look around Las Vegas and the canyons around, I realize that the world that I live in is huge. I realize how small I am in comparison to the physical formations all around me. They have been here for MILLIONS of years. I will live probably only to an age of 70. My life is a drop in the bucket compared to these grand, majestic formations. In a few decades, those of you who read what I write today will be nothing more than dust. Do you have an urge like me to leave your little mark on the world today? What will you do?thought du jourNote about the photo:This is Paris, Las Vegas... ;-) Had a great time tonight.addthis_url=''; addthis_title=''; addthis_pub='thoughtdujour';v...

Thought of the Day:?I haven't a clue as to how my story will end. But that's all right. When you set out on a journey and night covers the road, you don't conclude the road has vanished. And how else could we discover the stars??The desert is a wonderful place. It?s barren and ?seemingly? devoid of life. The dictionary definition of a desert is ? ?. As I drove past the deserts in Utah, I could not help but feel wonder and amazement for this beautiful landscape. You know, Utah was one of the last places to be inhabited in the United States. It was Brigham Young who moved his people to the West to claim this land. Claim land that no one else wanted. What a wise move?to take what no one else wanted. To see beauty in what other people don?t bother casting more than a glance. To look past the obvious.... When was the last time any of us looked past the obvious?? In our hurried, modern day life?. We rush from place to place. Some of us will spend an eternity looking for Mr. Right or Mrs...

Activating positive energy

Thought of the Day:"The person who sends out positive thoughts activates the world around him positively and draws back to himself positive results. ? Norman Vincent PealeToday I want to share something that I experienced yesterday.....One of the many things that I need to do before leaving Canada is making sure that I get my work visa to the US. From what I had been reading on the Internet, it would be a miracle for someone like me (Degree in Arts but working in Information Technology) to get a work permit in the computer field. In fact, I had told myself to give up without trying.... I mean, the guys on the forum who all seemed to knowledgeable made it quite clear.... I had as much chance in getting the Visa as a fat kid has in saying "no" to cake! Then a friend of mine called last night.... She asked how's my "positive thinking" thing going on..... "Awesome" I mumbled..... She asked about my work situation... I told her "Yea...got a job down in Las Vegas... but I'm afraid of appl...
