More From Sherbaug
2008-04-13 05:00:00 There was some more of Mahabaleshwar left to see thru my camera and here it is. Most of the flowers in Sherbaug are rare varieties and these are one of them.mumbaidailysnapshot
Raghuleela Mall
2008-04-12 07:12:00 Raghuleela Mall is one of the biggest and popular malls in Navi Mumbai, and is on a prime location exactly opposite Vashi Station. The mall not yet being fully functional, Future Group's Big Bazaar in the mall is the favourite shopping paradise.I love the architecture of the mall. Photography is not permitted in the mall, so I could not get any photos of the atrium. For amazing photos of the inside, click here. mumbaidailysnapshot
Vashi Station Entrance
2008-04-10 15:13:00 This is what you see if you look up at the entrance to the station. I like the structure. Most Navi Mumbai stations have been built with planning and design, and not randomly like Mumbai stations.Raghuleela Mall, which also houses Big Bazaar is exactly opposite this entrance.mumbaidailysnapshot More About: Station , Entrance
Vashi Ticket Counter
2008-04-09 15:30:00 As you pass by the shoe shine boys (locally called boot polish walas), to the left are the ticket counters for local train single and return journey tickets, and also monthly and quarterly season tickets.mumbaidailysnapshot More About: Counter , Ticket
Boot Polish
2008-04-07 20:44:00 These are boot-polish walas making a living outside Vashi Railway Station( & International Infotech Park). For a small amount, they will first use cream, then polish and polish your shoes really well. It's common here for men to get their shoes polished(on their way to work) outside railway stations, and at some places, even on railway platforms. If you want to be sure of the quality of polish being used on your shoes, ask for 'SPECIAL' polish, which will cost you a little extra.A little further on the left is the Vashi station ticket counter, another entrance ahead and to the right, opposite the station is Raghuleela Mall.I will show you these photos in my next posts.mumbaidailysnapshot More About: Boot , Polish

Ghodawala
2008-04-06 20:10:00 This is Seven Bunglow's Ghodawala. Like Kunal said 'wallah' is added to a word. Ghoda means horse, and Ghodawala is the man who has the horse. He gets the pony to the market area, to give rides to little children. For a five minute ride from a point to another, he charges Rs.10 for little ones and Rs.15 for older ones.Three or four little ones sometimes queue up here, waiting for their turn to enjoy the ride on the pony. Whenever I visit mom's place, my preschooler Krrish makes sure he gets the ride.mumbaidailysnapshot

Snacking
2008-04-04 13:15:00 Trupti Snacks is a popular snack joint at Nadco Shopping Centre at Andheri West, near the railway station. You can have fresh samosas, vadapav, khandvi, dhokla, kachori and all types of bhajiyas (pakoras) with tasty green chutney and sweet chutney. They also sell fresh Gujarati snacks like theplas, khakras, mathris, banana and potato wafers. The sweets like Mohan Thal, Besan Laddoo and Kaju Katli are simply yummy. The place here is always crowded and you are simply lucky if you can get samosas after 6 pm in the evening. The samosa tray comes hot from the kitchen 3 to 4 times, and within minutes, all are sold. When you are in Andheri West, dont forget to snack here.mumbaidailysnapshot

April 2008 Theme Day - Water
2008-04-01 09:02:00 Today is the April Theme Day and the theme is 'Water '.I didn't have much of a choice between the water photos I clicked of the Venna lake at Mahabaleshwar(the nearest hill-station to Mumbai), the sea waters at the Gateway of India and the seaside at Sagar Vihar, Vashi. But none of the photos, even the Venna lake had lovely blue waters and an amazing landscape. The waters were not clear. So I chose this photo of a little stream of water. No, this is not unclean water from Mumbai's nullah. This is a part of the acres of land of a strawberry garden in Mahabaleshwar. It is a clear stream of water. I found this stream of water behind the strawberry garden area, where we were choosing rose and other plants for taking home. The woman in the pic is a worker with the garden and is doing her daily washing chores here. The strawberry garden we visited had huge cabbages planted in between strawberry plantations. When we look to the left from the place above (where we could choose and buy plant... More About: 2008

Train Ads
2008-03-22 12:17:00 Advertisements on Mumbai Local trains have become very common nowadays. Ads like this one 'A TV soap about shaadi- marriage, sasural - home after marriage, usually a joint family, sasumaa -mom in law' are best advertised on Ladies compartments, and increase the TRP of TV soaps. As soon as women passengers see a train like this, they begin to discuss the storyline and lo --the soap is soon popular. This one 'Mera Sasural' is on all the compartments of the train.mumbaidailysnapshot More About: Train
Hot Chips
2008-03-21 05:51:00 Hot Chips at Seven Bunglows in Andheri is very popular. You can get fresh chips at any hour of the day from morning till late night. I see this man grating potatoes and bananas, and frying chips whenever I pass by. The scene is simply inviting. If you pass by here, do try them, and you will surely come backvfor more. The potato, banana and sago chips are popular besides many types of farsan including bitter gourd chips, chakli and South Indian varieties too.mumbaidailysnapshot
Mumbai Metro
2008-03-20 14:43:00 Work for Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro Rail Project Mass Rapid Transit has finally begun. This photo is right outside my mom's place on Versova Road. The first 11 km route of the Mumbai metro will be between Versova and Ghatkopar, all stations elevated, connecting the East to the West.Anil Dhirubhai Ambani's Reliance Energy has bagged the project. Talks are on with major rolling stock builders like Alstom (France), Siemens (Germany) and Bombardier, which have produced vehicles for metro systems all over the world. This section on Versova road is in the middle of the road, and obviously causing traffic problems. You can see the 7 Bunglow Bus Depot Mall in the photo. Also, a large number of traders at the Andheri market will have to be relocated to give way to the project. Promises are many. We have to wait and watch if they are implemented. mumbaidailysnapshot

2008-03-05 12:40:00 This is the Elephant's Head. As you can see, the extended portion of the rock looks like an elephant's head and trunk. Kates Point 3
2008-03-02 09:15:00 One must not miss horse riding at Kates Point . I simply loved the horses. In contrast to the horses we see in Mumbai used for Weddings, rides at the beach and other places, these horses are clean, well-fed and taken care of. A boatman told us that each horse owner makes a handsome amount of about Rs. 1000 per day, so he doesn't mind spending a couple of hundreds on the horse everyday.mumbaidailysnapshot
