2007-10-06 20:27:00 Just five or so miles outside of Joplin is the small town of Carterville. There is not much in Carterville, but what is there is interesting (such as the Superman Museum/ice cream parlor). Among its charms is this shoe repair/saddle repair shop. More About: Shop
Rt. 66
2007-10-04 14:58:00 Today is a special day at Joplin Daily Photo--the blog has reached its first birthday! I started the City Photo Blog on October 4th, 2006. Who would have thought it would have lasted so long (and who would have thought that there are so many things to take pictures of in Joplin)? I've really enjoyed being part of the Daily Photoblog community and I anticipate many photos to come!I thought a Rt. 66 sign would be appropriate since it was the subject of my first ever post.
Theme Day
2007-10-01 07:05:00 It is the first of the month again (already?!?) and that means it's theme day in the City Daily Photo Blog community. This month's theme is Cemeteries and Gravestones. I chose this photo from Old Newtonia cemetery in the small town of Newtonia, just a few miles from Joplin. Old Newtonia was the site of a couple of Civil War battles, and many of the fallen soldiers can be found in this cemetery. There are many of these "unknown" graves scattered throughout the older section of the cemetery.Nearly 100 blogs are participating in this month's theme. Take a look at their takes on this theme:St. Louis (MO), USA - San Diego (CA), USA - Cleveland (OH), USA - New York City (NY), USA - Boston (MA), USA - Mainz, Germany - Hyde, UK - Arlington (VA), USA - Cape Town, South Africa - Saint Paul (MN), USA - Toulouse, France - Arradon, France - Menton, France - Monte Carlo, Monaco - Montego Bay, Jamaica - Ampang (Selangor), Malaysia - Joplin (MO), USA - Cottage Grove (MN), USA - Bellefonte (... 2007-09-28 15:33:00 This photo rounds out the week of photos from Wildcat Park. I certainly hope you enjoyed them.I will not be posting over this weekend, but I will be back again on Monday!
Litter
2007-09-26 16:03:00 Unfortunately not everything at Wildcat Park is pretty and natural. Plenty of people litter, start fires, and leave graffiti at various places along the walking trail. Hopefully the new Audubon Center will help to raise awareness of what exactly we have in the area and why we need to treasure it. More About: Litt
Stream
2007-09-24 15:27:00 A small stream on its way to Shoal Creek at Wildcat Park. More About: Stream

Fish
2007-09-22 16:01:00 A perch in the same aquarium as yesterday. The aquarium at the Audubon center is rather large, and resembles a stream. It houses many species of fish, turtles, and aquatic invertebrates. More About: Fish
Audubon Center
2007-09-21 15:28:00 Yesterday I went to the new (and finally completed!) Audubon Center at Wildcat Glade just south of town on Main St. The center is the only one of its kind in the state of Missouri. It houses offices for the Department of Conservation, along with a nifty interpretive center and several miles of trails. I saw some great things there yesterday, so over the course of the week I will show you some of them.First up is this Red Eared Slider (the turtle) in the interpretive center.
No Swimming
2007-09-20 18:47:00 Even though it is still quite warm outside, this sign asks you not to swim in the nearby fountain. That may seem like a silly warning, but I've seen people in there before. The building in the background is the Joplin Globe newspaper. More About: Swimming
Dorm
2007-09-19 21:29:00 I've not gotten out and about in Joplin for a few days (can't seem to escape all the papers I'm supposed to be writing), but I did think that this globe and fake carnations in my dorm made a nice still life.

Reflection
2007-09-11 06:22:00 It's still technically Sept. 10th, even if it is a bit late in the evening. Anyway, here is a reflection of a sports complex a couple of miles out of town. There was no one there when I went today, so it was interesting to explore. More About: Reflection
