Pure mornings
2007-10-06 07:11:00
Purs matins A day off. Start with good, fresh coffee. Maple syrup on your pancakes, just a little. Pure morning. Purs matins.
Warm night
2007-10-05 07:55:00
Chaude nuit It is very strange how nights in Montréal go to very cool to very humid in only days of difference.

The younger you start...
2007-10-04 07:33:00
Le plus jeune on commence... Down the hill, on Côte-Ste-Catherine street (not to be mixed with Ste-Catherine street), is the Vincent D'Indy music school for younger people. Like saying "when you get better in something, you climb up the hill".

I know it looks like a hospital, but this is actually the music faculty of the Université de Montréal where I take my music lessons. On the Mont-Royal.

Theme day : Cemetary (month of Halloween)
2007-10-01 07:05:00
Here it is. The month of Halloween . As a theme, we decided in the Daily Photo Blog community to open the month of october with a taste of the 31st. I couldn't feel the darkness of it, so I decided to go with a lighted picture, more of hope than desperation. The list that follows are all participating blogs. Visit them ! Le voici. Hanging shots
2007-09-30 07:55:00
In many cafés, in Montréal, some artists put their creations on walls. In this one, a photographer simply hanged some sepia shots from a recent trip in southern countries. Amazing.

Game Night
2007-09-28 07:24:00
Whatever your idea about the game, whatever the kind of fan (or not) you are, it is always a really nice moment to hang around the Bell Center and the rest of the town when it's a game night. When the Habs win, you can hear the honks miles away.

Anorexia
2007-09-27 07:34:00
For sure that animal needs to eat a little more. Why is it the way it is ? It seems to be an emblem to a famous private corporation which I will leave unknown for now. I just happened to ask me... why ? Je me suis juste demandé... pourquoi ?

UQÀM or the new campus
2007-09-26 07:07:00
The new campus for UQÀM. Near the science buildings, this green place has been constructed last year. A new year has just started, let's wish the students a good year !

L'Absynthe
2007-09-25 07:50:00
I passed by this bar quite a few times, never willing to sit on the terrace, situated inches from the sidewalk. Really simple, some tables placed here and there, people chatting, smoking (one of the downside of this bar)... and a projector presenting a live show that's being held inside. Original, I have to admit. It would've been better if it was less crowdy (or if they decided to fit the people on the terrace logically) and if they sold the beer for less.

Finally.... the street !
2007-09-24 07:49:00
Here it is. Corner Sherbrooke and St-Denis, one of the most attractive place for local and tourists. Down that street, a movie theater, a theater (St-Denis), dozens of bars, shisha salons and terraces, good restaurants (and bad ones, as well... make a stop at "Les 3 brasseurs" to see), local shops for nice and unusual souvenirs, nice people, a University (the UQAM, for Université du Québec À Montréal), an hospital, and, to the very end of the street, the Old Port and the Old Montréal. As to say, it is a really famous street and for so many reasons. By foot, you could easily spend few days here. Let's discover it together !

Pretty in pink
2007-09-23 07:46:00
As promised, the pictures on MDP will take a turn to St-Denis street for a few days... at least ! As a first shot, I propose this model shop, which is to be honest on Sherbrooke street corner St-Denis. But I think it gives a great look of what you can find if you shop around the corner. Who wouldn't need that nice blue model in the back ?And the camera is working again, so the break is over !

Yet another...
2007-09-18 07:15:00
Yet another pic from Québec city. "Why, you promised it was over ?!" Well, I would answer "Yet another business trip". For few days, I'll be in North Carolina, Charlotte. Next week end MdP returns with authentic Montréal pictures !
Until next time
2007-09-16 07:33:00
Leaving Québec city. This is the last pic you get from here, until next time. This is a view from the back of the Museum of Fine Arts, right on the Plaines d'Abraham (Martin).

Picasso and the Antibes
2007-09-15 07:37:00
Right after the second world war, Pica sso got invited in a castle in Antibes to paint the walls by his on and unique ways. More than hundreds of paintings and sculptures later, using what the rest of war permitted for artists (litteraly like older paintings, doors, pieces of wood). As the artist said once, one who wish to view the Picasso from Antibes must come to Antibes. And since, the castle has become a museum. Which is now in renovation. Guess what ? The Museum of fine arts in Québec got some of the nicest work from the collection ! Until next january !

The Capitole and the mountains
2007-09-14 07:38:00
Right in the middle of the picture, attached to the round sign, is the Capitol e de Québec, a cabaret presenting live shows. And by the way, I was standing right on the fortifications to get that shot !

La Porte d'Youville
2007-09-13 07:17:00
This is one of the entrance to the Old Québec, the fortress. It is the only fortified city in North America ! Right behind the photographer is the St-Jean street, full of real nice restaurants, like the St-Antoine and the St-Patrick (which are in reality great pubs), and lots of arts galleries.

The Parliament of Québec
2007-09-12 07:16:00
So there it is, the famous Parliament of Québec. Here politicians discuss important issues and tourists make guided tours. It is obviously a place to go when around Québec city. Written in big capital letters, right over the front entrance, is the name of the discoverer of our Province : JACQUES CARTIER.

Right in front of the Parlement of Québec, which is home of the governement, has been placed a nice fountain perfectly lighted. By night, it becomes a treat for the eye. Click here to get a glimpse of the "not artistic version" of the fountain !

Wind it up !
2007-09-10 07:25:00
It is really windy tonight in the Old City. After wandering around a bit inside the fortifications, I decided that I wasn't due for a cough. Near the Plaines d'Abraham, you find some great architecture like the one inspiring this building.

Looking down
2007-09-09 08:21:00
These are the steps that goes from Chateau Frontenac, in Old Quebec, to a charming street near Champlain bld. From there, lots of little shops and terraces offer their charm.
Biz Trip
2007-09-08 07:54:00
For the next week, I will be working in Quebec City. As I wanna keep my ratio of one pic a day, I will be presenting a special dossier on that city, which is going to be 400 in few months. This is the Chateau Frontenac, south of Old Quebec fortifications.

Go South !
2007-09-07 07:55:00
This is a view from the Mont-Royal, looking to the south. The Biosphere is there, the Saint-Lauwrence, the Mont Saint-Bruno and the Mont St-Hilaire. The easiest way to get that view is to climb half of the Mont-Royal and stop at the halt with the huge parking.

L'île-des-Moulins
2007-09-05 07:02:00
This island is really pleasant to take a walk, read a book or just wander around lots of happy people. Something like 15 minutes north of Montréal, it is surrounded by and old quarter that's been overused in movies and tv series. You come to Montréal, you got to visit this !Note : As one can see in yesterday's comments, a reader of MDP thought it would be great to see more of St-Denis street. Be aware, fellow readers, that I really love to receive special orders ! :0) Be sure that for the next week or two, I will be walking St-Denis for you.
Portraits on the go
2007-09-03 07:16:00
Walking the Old Port, one will see many drawers, painters, all those kinds of artists ready to lay a memory of you in the city on paper, or wood, or anything else they find usable. I think it's a good idea to take few minutes and walk by, looking at some local talent as you may never see so close.

Back in april
2007-08-30 07:13:00
As I came over that piece of paper on the wall, in a trendy cafe, I realized it's been months since this face made appearance on worldwide news reports. Now it seems someone cannot forget her, here in Montréal.As it reads on paper : Ségolène Royal, give to the world a different face of France.

Swinging for money
2007-08-28 07:08:00
Instead of laying on their back like many of Montréal's homeless, these two have been really inventive in attracting people. I would even say they are good in attracting... crowds ! Locals as tourists gathered to take part to the show which, I think, was more than original and well done !That scene took place on Mont-Royal street.
