Grand Ole Opry
2007-05-16 07:15:00
I went to a live show featuring Porter Wagoner, who celebrates his 50th year at the Opry... this week ! Wagoner is the man that made Dolly Parton famous by signing with her in the late 60's. Fun fact : Dolly Parton and Wagoner were once a couple. When they split, Parton wrote a song to him, titled "I Will Always Love You". You all know this song, like it or not, that made Dolly Parton very rich... thirty years after writing it !! Remember a girl on drugs named Whitney Houston ?

Music City - Happy birthday to me !
2007-05-14 07:01:00
Here I am, Nashville, TN. Great temperature, great people. Had a good flight from Montréal, kind of tired from the past days. The picture shows some great country figures; one of which I really do appreciate, Johnny Cash. If you want more pics about my trip, you can go to http://cliches.blogspot.com.

For the next week, I will be on a trip to Nashville, TN. For work. As I can't be in Montréal showing how beautiful is my city, I will try to get nice shots from Nashville. As if it was Montréal. :0)

92 participating nations
2007-05-05 07:12:00
92 nations participated in the 1976 Summer Olympics. In fact, 6 028 athletes competed in 21 different sports. The Montreal Olympics are famous for two major reasons. First, they're known because of the African boycott, due to participation of New Zealand. Also because a 14-year-old gymnast from Romania, named Nadia Comaneci, scored seven perfect 10s and won three gold medals, including the prestigious All Around. The score board could hold only 3 digits, so her score was shown as 1:00.

Number 24 : a quiz
2007-04-30 08:22:00
The series of pictures I went in yesterday continues, but not for so long. That piece of memory is still fresh to every Montrealer, real ones I mean, even if it's been 14 years since then.Come to think about it... I could make it a quiz. What is shown on the picture ? (true, the idea of a quiz comes directly from my DP friend's Grenoble Daily Photo)

Télé-Québec
2007-04-11 07:51:00
The registered office of Télé-Québec is located in Montreal, near Jacques-Cartier bridge. That television channel offers cultural and international series, as well as local ones. It has a high level of quality; so a low level of popularity... to my great despair.

Ssssssmokin' !!
2007-04-10 07:08:00
I know it's a very bad subject, but that building has always fascinated me. It's a tobacco factory : sometimes it smells good from the outside, but most of the time (especially in hot summer days) it really stinks ! And no, I won't make any publicity by saying the company's name !

Becoming a classic
2007-04-05 07:04:00
Montréal has recently been invaded by Starbucks... for my own pleasure. I can't live without my Italian espresso, but in the morning, what's better than a great cup of mild coffee waking you up ?! Yeah, I know, a yoga session. That Starbucks is the one on Mont-Royal street, crowded by students reading course notes or typing on expensive laptops.

Get on the bus !
2007-04-04 07:07:00
One of the best way to visit Montréal is by bus, which is a good option in hot summer days when the subway is always down. This sign is a typical one from the STM (Montréal Transportation Society). One ride, 2,75$CA.

Not so typical meal
2007-04-03 07:15:00
To be honest, I could'nt resist taking that beautiful Nachos plate in picture and then share it with you. Not fully canadian (what !?), that meal is really popular here. Served with spicy salsa, salty guacamole, you're sure to grab another pint of beer to help the nachos make its way through !

Angus Shops
2007-03-27 07:12:00
Near the railroad, between Saint-Joseph and Rachel streets, is located the Angus Park. Sector of industrial military production during the Second World War, the Angus Park was used for the construction of trains by the Canadian Pacific. Today, the Park has become a mainly residential sector, still under huge development. Recently, the shops used for production were transformed into a big supermarket (what a surprise). The Park still preserves the vestiges and the typical red brick from the "old shops" which were set up there before. The ground is known for still being contaminated.

Coming to town
2007-03-23 07:20:00
Montréal doesn't know the artist. He is European, very well known in France, participated at Versailles in the Live 8 concert event, and has a real talent for melancholy. I listened to him real often when I lived in Lyon, France. I love his texts, I love his sound. And he's coming to town. For the Francofolies de Montréal.
