Definitely, Maybe....Not
2008-02-15 17:19:00 The weekend is here! Tomorrow morning I plan on waking up early and searching for a local farmer's market to buy fresh fruits and veggies. Then in the late afternoon we're going to Quail Gardens to check out some lush greenery and bask in their tranquil bamboo garden.Today we went to see Definitely, Maybe and it kind of sucked. I hate to say that because I love Abigail Breslin, I think she is so talented but the movie was a tad boring.Sunday I'm going to my first photography workshop. One of the things I need to do more of this year is invest in myself. Much to my dismay, I exempted overpriced purses from my 'invest in myself list'. That was a long fought battle in my head, believe me. No, I decided a little less vanity and a heavy dose of self nourishment is greatly in order.Wishing everyone a blessed weekend!
Balboa Park and Coronado Island
2008-02-14 23:24:00 Nevermind that I forced them to meet me at seven am.Or that I had them climb through a tree that was displaying some monster root growth.Or even the fact that I told them, ever so boss-like, to "get in the damn ocean, I don't care if it's freezing!"None of that matters now because I think they look fabulous in the pictures, and really, what else matters? We started out in Balboa Park and ended up at the beach on Coronado Island . It was cold and almost unbearably overcast, but Laura and James were up for anything. Well, Laura was. I think James was being politely obedient. Here's a peek at our day:::Click on this picture to view full size, it almost screams for it. As my 13 year old cousin just said, "that picture is sick!" (translated for those of us in generation X--"that picture is totally rad!")I'm kind of jealous of this picture, how silly is that? I want to be Laura in this picture:::There are so many more. Checking In
2008-02-13 07:12:00 Just stopped in for a quick post. It's been a busy couple of days. Few picks from the weekend.Sister-in-law came over with Kayla on Saturday. She wanted some pictures of her with her daughter:::I'm in kind of a rut photography wise, just can't seem to pull everything together:::But this smile makes my rut all the better:::Til next time!!
Best Cuban Food in San Diego
2008-02-09 02:26:00 This afternoon Curt and I went up to Oceanside for some Cuban food. Growing up in Florida, good Cuban food was something I took for granted, until today that is.It's been too long since I've had plantains and an excellent pork sandwich. I've been watching a lot of Dexter lately and when he talks about those sandwiches, it makes me crave them so much! Also had a refreshing Mojito to go with it. We drove home the scenic route via Pacific Coast Highway, it's a beautiful day in Southern California!Loving life today.Have a great weekend--a toast to you! More About: Food , San Diego , Diego
Nieces
2008-02-08 07:44:00 Saw my beautiful nieces today. Kayla is getting so big, so fast. SIX months already:::And little Vanessa in a dress:::Even though she stepped forward right when I snapped the picture, I still love this smile so so much::
Talent Agencies and Your Child
2008-02-06 05:35:00 Is it pretty common for kids to be scouted by talent agents in malls? My sister-in-laws' boyfriends' daughter was approached by a talent agent at the mall the other weekend.I don't know how I feel about this. On the one hand, I know many legit, big stars have been scouted randomly. Yet, on the other hand, it's a little creepy.I'm not sure what I would think if I had a kid and this happened to me. Doesn't help that the world is so full of loons these days, you always tend to think the worst.Regardless, she is a beautiful girl. Just in case she becomes a mega star, I grabbed her for a few photos so I can say I knew her when::: More About: Child , Talent , Agencies
Looking Up
2008-02-05 00:57:00 My monster sore throat ended up being my very first case of strep throat. I woke up Friday morning in so much pain, I couldn't wait to get to the Urgent Care office, and I HATE going to the doctor. Friday I could've kissed the doctor right on the mouth, I was so happy to see him. But that would've been weird, so I refrained. My willingness to make out with an unfamiliar doctor had everything to do with the pills in this container and his promise that I would feel much better after taking the first dose::Actually it was the second dose, two Tylenol PMs and sleep that made me feel much better. It's still hanging around, but now it feels like a really bad sore throat, which is manageable. Spent the weekend mending the strep and house/dog sitting for my father in law. It was the perfect stay under the covers, watch movies and read books weekend, weather-wise. Cold, dreary and rainy.I took these as I was sitting on the floor in the foyer of their condo, in my PJs with an open fro...
Tea and Me
2008-02-01 04:52:00 Ever have one of these days?Where you just want to pull the cover over your eyes and block out the world?Yeah. Me too.Nursing a killer sore throat with lots of camomile tea, honey and fresh lemon. Tomorrow I plan to leave the house first thing and get lots of fresh air. Maybe a walk on the beach.Something, anything different from today.Goodbye January.
When Life Gives You Lemons, Hand Them to a Toddler
2008-01-30 19:23:00 A couple more pictures from last weekend--The lemons in the backyard are screaming to be picked, so I thought this would be a fun activity to do with our niece. She went bananas over the lemons. At first I didn't have my camera with me, so as soon as I realized this would be a picture taking event, I snatched the lemon out of her hand (which immediately led to crying and for some reason she didn't seem to understand or care when I explained to her that I only did it for the sake of documenting the fragility of her youth--it seemed perfectly logical to me). After running through the house and up the stairs as quickly as I could to grab a camera, with a crying, almost two year old on my hip (those daily two mile walks are starting to pay off), we resumed our task of lemon picking::These are Meyer Lemons and as you can see they are so good a toddler can eat them freshly picked. They are much less tart then their store bought counterparts and have a bit of a sweetness to them:::Ev... More About: Life , Hand , Toddler , Mons

Giddy
2008-01-29 09:10:00 Just booked a fifteen day vacation to Hawaii, October 2008.This is making up for our European Vacation that was cancelled because of the move back to San Diego.Planning itineraries are so much fun, is this what it's like being a Travel Agent? If so, I totally dig it.
Rain, Toddlers and Michael Clayton
2008-01-28 08:20:00 Loving the storms that have been blowing through these parts lately. The wind, the chill and the sounds of raindrops tapping against my window makes me so happy. I had a great weekend that started out thinking I would breeze through having our 17 month old niece spend the night Friday. I'm not sure who I thought I was fooling but now that the weekend is over and I can gather all my thoughts and place them in nice, organized compartments in my head, I have come to the conclusion that (A) 17 month olds have a demon-like need to pick every single thing they lay eyes on up and either throw it, put it in their mouths or bang it against something and (B) I am ill-equipped mentally, physically and emotionally to handle (A).Other than that, she was a dream.Watching her fall asleep almost made up for her inability to sleep in the same position for more than 3 minutes:::She woke up in the most adorable mood (it would have been so much more adorable if it weren't six in the morning but I ... That's Me in the Corner...
2008-01-24 21:36:00 ...that's me in the spotlight I'm losing my religion...so in a lot of ways I've lost my religion.Wait.Before I get into a religious post let me just say this:I believe in God. As a bumper sticker I saw the other night said, "Jesus is my homeboy". I just wanted to make that clear in case the following sounds like God bashing.I grew up under very strict Presbyterian rule. My uncle was the associate pastor of our church. Sunday school, sunday service, sunday evening service, youth group, vacation bible school...all of it, perfect attendance. The lyrics of "This Little Light of Mine" and "Kum Ba Yah" were the soundtrack of my youth. Not that that's bad, they're really kind of catchy tunes..don't let Satan blow it out, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine...BUT, right about the time I learned to think for myself without worry of repercussion, I became a little uneasy with the constant message that was being beat into my head Sunday after Sunday, y... San Diego Zoo Pictures
2008-01-22 08:07:00 Saturday we picked up our nephew Mikey in South County and headed over to the San Diego Zoo. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of zoos because I get a little sad looking at caged animals. I know the animals are more than taken care of and they probably don't know that their natural habitat is infinitely larger than the caged quarters that they are living, but still, it feels a little exploitive to me. The San Diego Zoo is so famous and has no shortage of funding but I couldn't help but think of zoos like the one in Las Vegas. WHY IS THERE A ZOO IN LAS VEGAS? THE TEMPERATURES IN THE SUMMER ARE INSANE, EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS! I've driven by the Las Vegas Zoo many times and every time my heart melts of sadness. When I got over all of that, I actually had a good time. I loved how tropical it was--the waterfalls and the lush trees. Here are some of the pictures from the day:::Expressions like this make me want to take this kid to every theme park/attraction within a 500 mile radius:::A... DREAM BIG
2008-01-21 08:42:00 The new website is up but we're still having a little bit of trouble getting everything switched over to the new name, so all the updates and changes have been added HERE. Everything is pretty much done except the contact section doesn't work and a few of the proof galleries from the last 2 months haven't been added.***********Okay. I'm pretty depressed about the football outcomes today. Obviously, the Chargers (although I have to say I completely think the Chargers' quarterback is a punk and I wish he would grow up and shut his mouth!) but I was also hoping for a Green Bay victory and eventual SuperBowl win. After the loss and our long drive home from Point Loma, I needed a little pick me up so I stopped on over at one of favorite websites and of course, she never lets me down. One of her posts from today::DREAM BIGIf there were ever a time to dare,to make a difference,to embark on something worth doing, it is now.Not for any grand cause, necessarily —but for something ... Self Realization Fellowship, Encinitas CA
2008-01-19 03:27:00 After lunch at Claim Jumper, Curt and I went to the Self Realization Fellowship that is located in downtown Encinitas , about five minutes from the house. It is an amazing, serene tropical oasis located on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. The meditation gardens are open and free to the public and forgive me for getting hippie-dippy here, but the energy and vibe is palpable. There were all these nooks and crannies where one could go off to reflect or meditate. I could picture myself sans camera there early in the mornings when it's even more quiet and peaceful, if that's possible. I loved the sun rays beaming down, it felt like a cocoon up there.Tomorrow we have a big day planned with our nephew. We are going to the San Diego Zoo so expect another major picture post soon!Have a great weekend everyone!

Pics From Christmas
2008-01-11 07:59:00 I've been sitting here debating on whether or not I should write about the race to the White House, the candidates and politics in general. I've decided to save that for another post but I did want to share a cool site that helps match up your views to those of the candidates. It's just a general guideline and not the end all and be all, as a matter of fact, the number one match for me is not someone I plan on voting for, but it's interesting nonetheless. Click HereHere's some pictures from Christmas ::My sister in law acting as designated Santa (the present hander outer)My niece Vanessa::Nephew Mikey and his half-sister:::Niece Kayla:::Curt's cousin Andrew and Kayla:::And finally baby Ava and her sisters:::Lots of movies out that I want to see. A couple of weeks ago we saw Juno and loved it. Happy Friday!

The Abstract of Marriage
2008-01-08 06:28:00 My wedding day doesn't come with an exciting story and I don't have any pictures to post, except for this one::It was a very intimate affair of 4, two of the four being strangers, and most of our friends and family didn't know we were going to do it. Curtis and I have been together for nine years and honestly, we've felt like we were in a marriage for several years now. We basically eloped, with the exception of asking my dad for permission the night before. Here's a picture of my husband taken today::And this one was taken a long time ago, when the bowl cut hairdo was all the rage (he's the cute blond boy standing on the left)::I've never had a conversation with any of my many married girlfriends about the process of changing your maiden name after the ceremony. It seems like a daunting task, like all the other times that would require a visit to the social security office or DMV. Unless it's the DMV in Omaha. I took this picture of the freakishly empty line at the Om... More About: Marriage , Abstract

Beware, I Use Words That May Not Make Sense
2008-01-05 06:07:00 I am...-a helpless romantic and a sucker for cheesy romantic comedies, especially if it has Hugh Grant in it--he is just so adorable in them (Love Actually and About a Boy to name a couple).-terrible at math but can kick some grammatical butt. I do realize that my grammar is sometimes atrocious but somehow I reason that because I am very well aware of most of the rules I break, I can grant myself creative freedom. -a procrastinator. I should write an essay on procrastination, but I would never get around to it.-a recovering vegetarian. I would love to relapse but meat is oh so delicious sometimes. I do try to only eat organic or free range if I can.-a hippie want to be. it's actually wanna be, isn't it? During my vegetarian stage, I was really hippiefied. I'm talking everything but the patchouli, and I would have probably doused myself with that if the scent didn't make me want to vomit. Fluffy Depth
2008-01-04 00:58:00 I can't post any pictures because I'm still working on my new website, which is kind of annoying because I have plenty of pictures to post.So I guess I'll talk about resolutions, it's still close enough to Jan. 1 to do that I think. Have you ever noticed that around the second week of January, the word "RESOLUTION" does not come up again until about twelve months later, somewhere near the date of Dec. 27? My thoughts on resolutions while it's still a topic of conversation: I love the thought of them, but I don't do them anymore. Actually, that's not true, I think I do them too much--like every Monday I seem to resolve to do something better, or different, or get back on track with something.Let's face it, the better half of resolutions have something to do with eating better and exercising more. That's not my first of the year resolution, that's my daily mantra and I am successful maybe 32% of the time. Maybe. I don't struggle with the addictions people seem to ea...
