Weight On Weight Off
2007-09-28 06:12:00 One night, when I was working as a police dispatcher in North Las Vegas, I was talking to one of the officers who mentioned how funny he thought it was that so many women who moved to Las Vegas from California gained so much weight. He based this on the hot little pictures on their California driver's licenses and how he always had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't a fake ID. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to fall out of the chair because he was pretty much describing me. I gained a ton of weight my first two years in Vegas and steadily gained each year after that. This is a pretty embarrassing subject for me and I'm surprised I'm even mentioning it here, but I feel it's a way of keeping me in check and in reality. I'm very good at denial and my weight is no exception. I thought I'd post a picture of me in Balboa Park, pre-Vegas, to show how far from healthy I've gone. Even in the picture, I'm not at my ideal weight but I was SO much more comfortabl... More About: Weight , Weigh

Settled In
2007-09-25 21:11:00 Making our roots in Encinitas, a quaint little coastal town just north of San Diego. I know I'm bragging here, but being able to see the Pacific Ocean on my daily walks with the dogs or my drive to the grocery store is an amazing thing. We made the drive in two days and somewhere along the way I picked up a nasty cold/flu. I haven't been able to respond to any emails but I'm hoping to get that fixed this afternoon.Going to IKEA this afternoon. So typical.I wish I could hire someone to unpack.I have to finish up my last two clients in Omaha. My first San Diego client is next week along with a wedding in Vegas for a friend. Happy Tuesday!
Showin Some Love to My Omaha Readers
2007-09-17 23:24:00 I'm doing a give away, this time not with $50 beauty products but furniture!I have an absolutely beautiful Armoire that I can not take with me. It's a designer piece and very lightly used. It weighs about 700 pounds so bring some muscle if you want it. Here's a picture when it was in my guest bedroom in Vegas (it's the armoire in the corner). It has plenty of room for a large sized TV, but I used it as my scrapbooking storage unit:::: I'm also giving away a custom made wrought iron bench that was made for my courtyard in the Vegas house. Then there's the IKEA desk, that's more like a work center for two people. It's hard to explain, I'll post a picture as soon as I can. It's a pretty significant desk, it takes up an entire room. It comes with two under desk filing cabinets and two wall mounted shelves. Two office chairs also need a new home.We have a 58" Panasonic plasma that is so expensive to ship and we are trying to sell it. If you need a decadent TV, ... Bitter Sweet
2007-09-17 07:28:00 It was so great seeing yesterday's family but it was also a bit emotional as it is my last session as a resident of Nebraska. I adore all of my clients--honestly, I really do but there's a special place in my heart for the first couple of families I met here. Speaking of special places in my heart, here's a little boy I don't think I will ever forget--remember him:::I'm pretty sure I've never captured an "inside" joke before but this picture would definitely qualify as my first:::We went to the lake and walked down the trail where we were in search of squirrels, rabbits and of course, GIRLS.Little Mr. Fearless, there was no ledge too high:::And I mean FEARLESS. He was on his way down in this pic, I kid you not:::Two of my all time favorites:::Now, off to pack. Move date is Thursday!! More About: Sweet , Bitter

2007-09-05 10:29:00 South Bend , Nebraska. Population 92. Really, I saw the sign.I was in South Bend last night for a photo session and I loved it! One of the best parts was seeing the very first family I took pictures for in Omaha. I had a great time and have a ton of pictures to get through so I thought I'd post a handful here in the blog since it will take a couple days to complete them all.2 of the 92 residents of South Bend:With their dog Murphy:One of the happiest dogs in Nebraska, I'm sure of it.One of my favorite families in Nebraska, this I'm also sure of.Love this group shot. When I look at it, I keep thinking there's a white sandy beach at the end of the bridge:::Closest thing I've seen to a beach around here:::With kids, I don't always care about the smiles and poses, what I love more than anything else is eye contact and this is precisely why:::Two of my favorites from the session:::This picture makes my heart skip a beat, it's so sweet:::I had so much fun last night and am lovi... Labor Free on Labor Day
2007-09-03 23:27:00 So it's Labor Day, a day of rest. Doesn't a Mojito sound fabulous right now. I haven't had one yet but I plan on indulging before the day is over. I've never gotten too attached to Labor Day but it's funny that, of the 9 or so government holidays it's one of the three that I know exactly when it occurs. Honestly, I think it's pretty much a meaningless holiday but that's probably because in the past I've had to work most of them. I think Labor Day wages should be tax free. I also think it's silly that people get so bent out of shape about wearing white after today. I remember my Aunt, in her thick southern accent, saying "you must never wear white shoes after Labor Day". Besides tennis shoes and flip flops, who the hell has white shoes? I can't think of one single outfit where white patent leather pumps would look good.Watch white patent leather pumps be the next fashion trend or maybe they already are. Shows you how little I know. 1968...2007. The Shameful Same
2007-09-03 04:33:00 This is a time of shame and sorrow. It is not a day for politics. I have saved this one opportunity, my only event of today, to speak briefly to you about the mindless menace of violence in America which again stains our land and every one of our lives. It is not the concern of any one race. The victims of the violence are black and white, rich and poor, young and old, famous and unknown. They are, most important of all, human beings whom other human beings loved and needed. No one - no matter where he lives or what he does - can be certain who will suffer from some senseless act of bloodshed. And yet it goes on and on and on in this country of ours. Why? What has violence ever accomplished? What has it ever created? No martyr's cause has ever been stilled by an assassin's bullet. No wrongs have ever been righted by riots and civil disorders. A sniper is only a coward, not a hero; and an uncontrolled, uncontrollable mob is only the voice of madness, not the voice of reason.Whenever a... More About: Sham , Shame
For My Fellow Dog Owners
2007-08-31 10:17:00 Dear Dogs of Mine, It seems that lately things have gotten a smidge slack around here. I feel it is time to remind you of the rules that heretofore we have operated under. You are all cute dogs, but your continued cuteness in no way negates our previous agreement. Let me remind you of a few details of this agreement. 1. In exchange for room and board, you are to guard the kingdom. That would be guarding the kingdom from any and all bad guys, robbers, serial killers, etc. Feel free to bark maniacally at any of those that should appear. Guarding the kingdom does NOT include barking maniacally at bunnies, squirrels, cows, sheep and invisible things that only you can see, especially between the hours of 5am (when I stumble out of bed to let you out) and 8am (when I actually have to get out of bed).(And let me take a moment here to remind you that the pizza guy is a potential bad guy. He is not your friend. Just because he comes bearing food does not allow him free and easy access to the... More About: Owners

My Thoughts
2007-08-29 10:52:00 When we went to visit San Diego a couple of weeks ago, there was an interview for a job that Curtis was perfectly qualified for, although he was a little hesitant to embrace it as his current employment leaves little room for complaint or dissatisfaction. After weighing all the pros and cons (and there are so many), we felt that it was indeed a sound decision to move back to where part of our family resides. I think the official offer from the "other" job came in about two weeks ago, so you can imagine how much has been going through our minds and my beloved 'to do' list is about to burn a hole through the paper in which it is written. The last few days have been particularly difficult as I'm receiving numerous emails from my clients here expressing their disappointment that I'm leaving and offering their support and well wishes. I am so very grateful to all my clients here in Omaha and I will miss them immensely. I get a bit over attached to things in my life that I hold dear, a... More About: My Thoughts , Thoughts

2007-08-28 06:37:00 So the big announcement is we are moving back to San Diego!I wasn't able to say anything sooner because Curtis had to let his employer know and I had to email my future clients. Now that I have emailed everyone, I'm left with a huge cloud of mixed feelings. Honestly, everything has happened so fast I don't think it's all hit me yet.I'm actually exhausted, sad and overwhelmed just writing this so I will update more tomorrow. Another Set of Sweet Sisters
2007-08-27 08:09:00 This weekend I had the pleasure of doing a session with two sisters. Like my last set of close-aged sisters, these two were so sweet with each other. I think I can safely say they were the most outgoing, friendly kids I've ever met. When I walked into their house they greeted me like I was an old friend of the family. Mom and Dad were the best. They totally 'got it' as far as giving me space with the girls and letting them show me their personalities. It's a funny thing, but I notice a huge difference in kids when I get some alone time with them (not really alone as the parents are always in the next room or at the very least in listening distance, but out of sight). Of course not all kids are comfortable being in the company of a stranger, but these girls didn't have a hang up in the world. They couldn't be any sweeter or more generous. And any kid that invites me to go get ice cream at the end of our session, without any coaxing from mom or dad, is going to score so... More About: Sweet , Sisters
B to the S
2007-08-23 11:42:00 Now, I'm all for making women feel good about themselves and if a little touching up here and there helps, I'm all for it. But there is something so blatantly wrong about this Faith Hill cover for Redbook. It's just the lie of it all on a national publication that wrongly holds this middle aged woman up to godlike perfection when in real life she is ordinarily beautiful, in spite and because of the wrinkles and extra arm fat. Why? Why do they have to be airbrushed to perfection? You know, as I write this I realize I'm being a bit hypocritical because I have "fixed" dark circles and wrinkles in a few of my photos. I just don't know where the line is, for me anyway. This photo just seems to take it too far to the extreme. ..and if I can just be hyper-critical, her left arm really bugs me in that position and I hate how her hand just falls off at the bottom of the page. This picture has me in all kinds of a bad mood now. one more thing..this is totally jessica simpson in ...

To Do List
2007-08-20 03:03:00 I don't know how I'd function without my 'to do' lists. I'm a firm believer that there are two types of people in this world--those who cling feverishly to their 'to do' lists and those who don't (I guess they just wing it). I also believe that the 'to do' list people are type A's secretly afraid of early dementia. I'm probably just describing myself. San Diego Pictures For A Friend
2007-08-17 06:14:00 While in San Diego , I met an ex-coworker and friend, Debra, to take picutres. Mostly of her step daughter but we also squeezed in a couple of her and her son at the beach at sunset. Southern California sunsets on the beach--so so heavenly!I credit my nephew for giving me the courage to become a photographer. If it weren't for him and my very first Canon Rebel equipped unheavily with a kit lens, I would have never gotten my feet wet in what has become my greatest passion. Second to my nephew, is Debra and her kids. I remember nervously asking her if I could take their picture and she enthusiastically said yes. That, in itself, was my first shocker. I had since upgraded to a Nikon D200 with a very decent kit lens and purchased a couple of spot on prime lenses, but still no experience at all. I show up with my new equipment (falsely thinking at the time that equipment was the biggest obstacle), and just dove in with taking shot after shot. Not having a clue as to what I was d... First Slideshow
More articles from this author:2007-07-25 01:17:00 I've been wanting to do slideshows for quite a while now, but the problem was that I could make them but couldn't produce them into DVD format in a quality that I was happy with. In Vegas, when I was taking pictures for my friends and coworkers, I got really good feedback on the slideshows but wasn't able to make a DVD for them to have. I used iPhoto on my Mac for the slideshow and loved it but had to use iDVD for output and hated that part. Finally, I found something that does both! The slideshow portion is easier and much better then iPhoto and the DVD output portion is completely outsourced so someone else does that for me altogether. On the control panel of the slideshow there's an opion to purchase and it's all taken care of for me. It's so easy.***Click Here*** to see my first slideshow, it was so much fun to make!!
