I Was Only Going To Do a Couple
2007-07-24 07:42:00 Once I started, I just couldn't stop. I'm buying a new slideshow program and can not wait to put all the photos from the session on it. Hopefully I can have the slideshow posted in the next couple of days. In the meantime, here are a just a few from the sisters I met this morning. I love this session and these two are so charming, I couldn't get enough of them. I loved their dresses and that headband--love it!These two were so close, you could just tell how much they love and adore each other. They really had a special relationship and they made me miss my little sister so much. This is a busy week, I have three sessions coming up before Sunday and still a ton of pictures from the wedding to get through. My goal is to have the wedding finished by Thursday...keeping my fingers crossed anyway! More About: Couple , To Do , Going , Goin
Beautiful Bride
2007-07-23 20:13:00 Congrats to this beautiful bride and her new husband, who should be carefree in Cancun enjoying their honeymoon. The wedding was great and there was no crying done on my part so it was a splendid success. Now I'm up to my eyeballs in proofs. There are going to be so many for them to go through. I almost want to keep the number of pictures I present to them down to about 250-300 but I've read on forums that brides expect like 800. I could easily do 800 but holy moses that's a lot of pictures. How could you possibly go through them and sanely pick the ones you want and why in the world would you want to look at 800 pictures of one event? The candids are definitely my favorites, they are so much fun to process. I'm finding it a little difficult to get through all the posed portraits, but I will survive. If I need a break, I can always edit some photos from this morning's session...two sisters who were insanely adorable. Can't wait to post those!I also turned 33 over the weeke... More About: Beautiful , Bride
Big Day Ahead
2007-07-20 05:25:00 Tomorrow is a big day for me as I am shooting my first wedding in Omaha! Granted it's a bigger day for the bride and groom but I'm so excited to be a part of it. Tonight was the rehearsal at the church and I'm such a big goofball. Yeah, I cried during the processional. It was the music, I'm telling you, it gets me every time. First it's the goosebumps with Pachelbel's Canon, then let the tears be rollin when I hear the Bridal March. Everybody else was joking and having a great time while I'm feverishly searching my purse for tissues. If you know me well, this crying revelation is no surprise. If I cry tomorrow, I'm quitting photography. Seriously I CAN NOT cry as the wedding photographer. On to less embarrassing stuff---look at the stats for my website. Most of the hits to my website come from right here--the blog. So I guess it serves me well to update more often!!Finally, I'm doing another give away. Believe me, I am not below buying hits to this blog :) The fi... More About: Ahead
Give Away!
2007-07-16 23:33:00 "somebody has a case of the Mondays"That would be me. Every Monday--and I have no idea why. It's been well documented but I'll say it again, I have a small problem with buying beauty products. Some of them don't work out so well, like the Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford Skincare Line that I bought in a moment of weakness while I was up at god knows what hour in the wee hours of the morning watching infomercials. The thing with informercial products is that they make you sign up for bi-monthly deliveries, specifically targeted for people like me. People who decide they don't want something any longer but don't call to cancel the subscription. So I have an unopened, unwanted box of Meaningful Beauty that I'm giving away. If you want to try it, email me your address and I'll send it to you. I liked the product and used it for a couple of months but my skin needs a little extra help I think. That and I really, really like to buy masks and toners and creams...you get th... More About: Give , Away
Let's Not State the Obvious
2007-07-11 05:36:00 When you meet a family of, let's say...eight, doesn't it seem a little obvious to say, "wow, you have a big family!!"? I'm sure most people say it out of intrigued admiration, but mom and dad must hear that ALL the time. So, when meeting my largest family clients Saturday morning, I tried my very best not to utter those words. Instead, I did what must happen almost as often. I screwed up on all the names--over and over and over again. To save my life, I could not get them straight. I have to admit, for the first time in a long time I was nervous going into the session. What if there was so much going on I couldn't capture the little "moments" I love so much? What if they gang up on me (this I found to be way too far fetched because they were all so sweet and well behaved)? What if I didn't get one frame worthy picture of each child? To get over all my doubts I had to loosen up so I could be ready for the little moments when they happen, and they always happen eventua... More About: State , Obvious , Stat , The O
My Beagle Hates Me
2007-07-09 15:12:00 I'm such a bad blogger. My goal this week is to update everyday until the weekend. I'm also a bad doggy mommy. Knowing that my beagle is cripplingly terrified of fireworks, I tried this past holiday to shield her against her worst nightmare and decided to drive out of town to the middle of nowhere during the big firework displays. In Nebraska, that means we drove north. For twenty minutes. Viola--nowhere.Then for some unknown reason, amidst peaceful stars and distant, silent firework shows, we decided to turn around and head towards the airport--right in time to be on Dodge when Boys Town lit up the sky with a serious display that drew the biggest crowd I've ever seen on a street. Seriously, it looked like Omaha was hosting the Macy's Day Parade. So we were literally driving under the display with a non-drugged (whole other story), fully alert and terrified dog who thought her world was coming to an end. Needless to say, this was not a problem in Vegas. Nor do I recall... More About: Beagle , Eagle
Catching Up
2007-06-29 19:49:00 I love the feeling of getting caught up, it's almost as good as the feeling of satisfaction from a perfectly cleaned house. Nowadays, I do all my own cleaning so that satisfied feeling is more abstract than reality. All my proofbooks have been packaged and are ready to be mailed. I'm just waiting for my UPS man to deliver a couple of print orders, then I can do my out of the house errands, including the dreaded post office. The last couple of days have been nice weather-wise so leaving my air conditioned abode isn't so tremendously horrible. In the spirit of getting caught up, here's a couple of pictures from a few weeks back. Three sisters who were as wonderfully unique in their personalities as they could possibly be:::Absolutely beautiful girls with the most gorgeous eyes! The oldest was not so thrilled about picture time. And that's perfectly okay. What cracked me up was that mom wanted to coordinate in pink, which by the way I think is fab. But the oldest was not ha...
Lots of Love in the Air
2007-06-28 22:52:00 I don't know about you, but I know a ton of women getting married or having babies! Or, in the case of this post, BOTH! I met this couple Tuesday night for their engagement session and they were so cool, calm and collected for being right in the middle of so many wonderful, life changing situations!!Seriously, does this look like a woman who's about to get married, just closed on a house and is going to have a baby in a few months? First of all, her hair is way too pretty and styled. I would be having some serious war-hair going on--you know, when it's up in a looped pony tail on the top of your head with strands sticking out every which way!! The beautiful bride/mommy to be:::We couldn't forget another very important member of the family:::Had to include this very popular pose:::If I ever take your picture, I can almost guarantee that I will be asking you to walk away from the camera! 99% of the time I throw this in black and white, but the colors this night were poppin::... Energy
2007-06-26 00:00:00 Although the majority of my weekend was draining and hectic, last night's session ended the weekend on a much needed good note. A too cute almost two year old with abundant energy and a bigger than life smile was a blessing with perfect timing.I love everything about this little girl--FUN, sassy, funny, independent and of course, adorable::::One of the cutest moments was when she was looking for ants::::She got in a teeny bit of trouble for sticking out her tongue, but I thought her little mischievous look was too adorable to pass up:::After the little misunderstanding about tongue etiquette, my little firecracker friend knew exactly how to get the adults laughing again:::I often get asked "what should we wear" when it comes to getting photos taken. Okay, let me just say last night's family gets an A++ for wardrobe. I loved everything about how they were coordinated with bold colors right down to their bare feet:::And finally, one of my very favorites from the night:::I so enjo... More About: Energy
Running Behind
2007-06-21 15:52:00 My dear friend's mother passed away sadly and I made last minute travel arrangements to Las Vegas for the services. I'm leaving town as Curt's family is coming in town for the College World Series. (Yes, Omaha actually has a national event that draws "tourists" to this quaint 'ole town in the middle of the country!)I'm worried that my animals aren't going to get fed while I'm gone. I put sticky notes all over the condo to remind Curt to feed our four legged family.I'm WAY behind on my sessions. I have several pictures to post from recent sessions that I can't wait to share. I hate not being caught up.Whenever I'm jolted into realizing how fragile and precious life is, I often feel as if I've lost my ground. I mourn for my friend's loss and for her sorrow, and I feel helpless and afraid. I was reading one of my favorite blogs this morning for inspiration and I found this list. Twins!!
2007-06-13 10:19:00 I've been waiting a long time to meet this family! Mom booked last night's session months ago and I've been looking forward to it ever since. Their backyard looked like a park, with better kid amenities. Really, fun could be had back there for days straight. I'm in the middle of going through the pictures but had to pull a few out because I know mom reads this and I can't wait for her to see:I love how the rocks were arranged as if they were just as much the subject as the two boys, one rock for each leg:::I found it so funny that my favorite picture of Little Q was the very first picture I took of him (he has the most expressive eyes):::and my favorite one of his brother was the very last one I took of him:::When the Nebraska hats came out, it all made perfect sense to me. These ever faithful fans out here are literally born and raised red and white:::We ended the night with the Fisher Price Water Table. Love Birds and Trees
2007-06-06 10:18:00 It's been a while since I've done an engagement session and I have really missed them. Last night I met Desiree' and Mark, who are a gorgeous couple and incredibly sweet. I loved how they interacted with each other, they made our session so much fun and an absolute breeze to photograph. We went to Walnut Grove Park, which let it be known that I'm convinced has the most trees per square footage than any other park in the world. If there were one more tree, it would have been borderline ridiculous. The lovely couple--I had poor Desiree' lean up against this tree with these huge ants crawling around but you would never know with her beautiful smile that anything was wrong:::I absolutely love this candid moment::: More About: Love , Trees , Birds , Rees
My Country Bed
2007-06-01 06:47:00 Am I the only person who does not make their bed on a regular basis? It's a chore I loathe, but I should start making a better effort. I was reading the Martha Stewart Housekeeping Book and of course it's on her list of daily chores. Her weekly chores are similar to my spring cleaning chores, which is very sad. Anyway, she does make a good point in that once a bed is made the chances of messing up the rest of the room is less likely.Going shopping for new bedding last weekend helped too. I realized I had no summer linens and one must have summer linens. I love a comfy, fluffy bed with lots of down and thick comforters and blankets, not so practical for the hotter months. The only choices I had in the summer bedding department seemed to be quilts. Like quilts Aunt Linda had on her antique beds. Some time between the early 80's and present day, quilts seemed to have come full circle and back in style because there were tons of them. A little weary of the quilt, I threw cau... Giving Up
2007-05-30 04:25:00 I hate to admit that there was no painting done over the weekend, except for a small color test patch. I am happy to relay that there was ample amounts of reading, lounging, good food, and movies to take it's place. Today was slow going, the laziness of the weekend still lingering in the air. Even updating this blog seems to be a test of effort. I think I will throw in the towel and crawl into bed with a book and a cup of tea. More About: Giving , Ving
Count the Seconds
2007-05-24 17:05:00 How cool is constant thunder and lightning? Being a transplanted desert rat, I have to reacquaint myself with the calming sounds of a nice thorough storm. Love it.Not so much loving having to stand outside in it while the dogs relieve themselves but I'll take the bad with the good.Four day weekend starting tomorrow. Curt and I had two choices. 1-Go on a nice weekend trip to exotic, far and away places...like Denver. Or 2-Paint the office.Much to my surprise I actually chose to paint. Not everyday I dismiss a spa retreat weekend full of pampering and treatments to lay tarp and roll green paint on four walls. But it has to be done and it's the right thing to do. Speaking of the "right thing to do", those words were spoken last night on the Dateline (I think?) special with Angelina Jolie. I'm pretty ambivalent in my opinions of her but I usually find on camera interviews with her interesting. So last night I was surprised I was kind of bored, I even fast forwarded some of i... 2007-05-23 23:12:00 Well. I successfully ordered, if one considers $423.00 a success, from Beauty.com. The problem yesterday was the sale wasn't until today. Thinking Out Loud...
2007-05-16 05:51:00 about ethanol.A couple of weeks ago I watched a 20/20 episode on whether several hot topics were myths, one of the topics being the current use and push for ethanol to replace foreign oil.My first instinct was full support for ethanol. It makes sense to use replenishable corn as fuel as opposed to fossil fuels. What I didn't take into account was the use of foreign oil required to produce the ethanol by fueling the tractors that process the corn and the trucks that transport the resource, which is negating any good ethanol production has at this point.Politically, the current support for ethanol by the 2008 candidates seems to be motivated by votes rather than environmental gain. Hillary Clinton was publicly opposed to ethanol until recently, and I can't help but think it's not the good of the environment that is on her political agenda.I just read an article by the Vice President for the American Coalition for Ethanol where he responded to the 20/20 show. I wanted him to def... More About: Think , King , Loud , Thinking
No Shame In My Game
2007-05-15 04:17:00 I had a euphoric moment when I realized that I didn't have to spend hundreds of dollars on books--every other week. I could check them out at the library. At first I resisted it, even talked myself out of it. I mean, if you have kids it makes perfectly good sense or if you're a student, I could see it. But to avoid spending money at the bookstore, well, that's rather cheap. When I figured out how much money I would save though, I marched myself right into the library and got myself a library card, just like I did when I was in elementary school. Now I have a library obsession. Unless I want to peruse through endless magazines, for free, which I still prefer to do at Borders, in the cafe with a nice tasty coffee beverage, I don't even need to look around. I have my books held for me by reserving them on the internet at home. So every couple of weeks I check Amazon.com's new and future release list and put anything that interests me on the list. The Good Life
2007-05-11 06:49:00 Nebraska's state slogan was originally "Nebraska...the good life" (it was just recently changed to something else but the original slogan is still on the Welcome to Nebraska sign). Now, I was completely prepared to not dispute the original state slogan. Quite the opposite, I fully intended to embrace it. Until I realized there's a major problem in Nebraska, Omaha specifically. Bugs and insects, namely TICKS. Omaha ticks don't mind their own business; they attack. I'm not kidding. The first couple of times I saw them, crawling on my arm, I had no idea what they were, in the toilet they went. On the night I came home from a hike and found SEVEN of them on my body, I naturally freaked out. Searched the internet, suspecting they were some kind of fat, flat flea. Found out that these invaders on my body were Lyme disease carrying Deer Ticks.I've had a small phobia since then. Gallery Wraps
2007-05-08 23:22:00 I ordered an 11x14 Gallery Wrap of a picture I took of Curtis' niece and I love it. It's a product I would definitely recommend because it is so beautiful. The picture does not do it justice. I was highly impressed with the quality, the tone and the construction. The picture is almost three dimensional and alive. The only cons were that it is really expensive and it wraps the edges of the picture so not all prints will work depending on how the subjects fill the frame.
