The old man A Ghost or a Friends Father
2007-09-08 17:14:00
Across his face, the expression seemed opaque The maturity he must have been proud to posses Seemed the next causality And when he smiled, nodding, The world ignored without cruelty  He waved, watched, dreamt, With eyes moist and remorse, Still hoping, still expectant They sidestepped his unsolicited overtures And avoided the soul, unrepentant  Then he rekindled the memories Sitting in the corner on his own Of the lost world; of love and compassion When the sun didn’t feel so warm And the youth cherished his company, with zest and passion  He looked near; he looked far He seemed to find someone known He called names, strolling alley after alley Looking for lost friends, peers, even foes Ready to pardon all for the dilly-dally  But there isn’t a soul There hasn’t been for awhile Who seems even least bit to bother All are comfortable looking through him Not knowing who is he – a ghost or a friend’s father?

India Wine Show 2007
2007-09-08 17:13:00
Well, the post is intended to share some of  the observations that has a direct or indirect bearing on the  'India n Wine Culture'. Not just the Wine journey seems to be becoming merrier with time now-a-days, people seem to becoming more and more inventive. I think that is a good sign. Seen with the fact that so many Indian companies are foraying into the emerging market and famous brands making their presence felt here in India, I think better times lie ahead. India Wine Show 2007 The Indian Wine industry is going through an amazing discovery, as more and more companies are joining the bandwagon. Much is getting more. And more, even more. The golden, amber, rose... are all swirling in far too many freshly wiped glasses, much as the industry and trend watching pundits had predicted. At enchanting parties, in the neighbourhood functions, at corporate events, at social get-togathers... it seems everywhere. For a wine enthusiast like me, the fascination is a fantastic f...
Four year old Alisha was very excited that morning
2007-09-08 17:10:00
Four year old Alisha was very excited that morning.  It was her first day at the play school. All of last week she and her mother talked about nothing else. Her mother told her that there would be a lot of little boys and girls to play with at her new school. There will also be toys and books and also teachers who will teach her everything she needs to learn before starting kindergarten at the big school next year.  Alisha and her mother had gone shopping last week for some new school clothes, shoes, a snack box and water bottle.  She waited impatiently on the verandah for her mom to lock up the house and walk her to her school. "We have to walk fast because I don't want to be late", Alisha told her mother. Her mom laughed.  " You are eager to start school I can see", said mom. "I am so proud of you". Alisha felt good.  She always liked it when mom said she was proud of her...

2007-09-07 03:00:00
Then why is he living the anchor which raised him to the Captain's throne. It served3 purposes -1. It got Rahul Dravid the Captaincy may be for sure. Who knew Sachin's name will not     crop up  even if BCCI wanted a change. So this the short cut. Who cares for scruple?    At least Greg Chappell did not.2. It served Greg Chappell because he was assured of the "His Master's Voice" for till    2007 World Cup. It was also made sure by Rahul Dravid's appointment  till WC 2007.3. It suited Sharad Pawar's group because killing Saurav Ganguly was to get at     Jagmohan Dalmiya.John Wright adapted because the only only way which was known to John Wright was getting players on his side. Inspite of some disagreements, he never put his ego above Team India's interest. He recognized Saurav Ganguly's abilities as leader and the support he enjoyed. What did Greg Chappell do ? He planted the seed of divide a...

2007-09-07 02:59:00
It takes all sorts to make this world, and as a doctor one sees all sorts of characters and all sorts of frailities.I would like to narrate two incidents of lax morals-without being judgemental.         ;     The first incident concerns a lady patient of mine brought to me with appendicitis. When i pronounced the diagnosis and said that immeadiate surgery was required, the relatives demurred and said that the husband was in the gulf, and that they could not consent to the procedure without his presence.I explained in detail regarding the possibility of the appendix perforating and the likely consequences of refusing surgery. Finally convinced, they agreed and the lady was operated on.The postoperative period was uneventful and the lady was duly discharged. When she came for follow up,she was accompanied by a male who seemed very familiar with her-pulled down her sari to show her wound, and in fact spoke with inside knowledge of her me...

Women are like apples on trees The best ones are
2007-09-07 02:57:00
Women are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. Most men don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they sometimes take the apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easy. The apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they're amazing. They just have to wait for the right man to come along, the one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree.   Now men.... men are like a fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the shit out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with!

Indo US Nuclear Deal
2007-09-07 02:56:00
There are a lot of discussions going on the Indo US Nuclear Deal . Every other day there is a view from left, centre or the right.I read an article in Hindu on why Naom Chomsky opposes the Deal. He cites reasons such as Arms race, Nuclear Disarmament and coercion power that US would acquire etc for opposing the deal. These are my thoughts on it******Opposing Indo-US Nuclear Deal or supporting it depends on which country one belongs to.Under the NPT regime that this deal is an opportunistic agreeement between two partiesis well known to everyone. If Pakistan has concluded such an agreement we, Indians would have opposed it.The hard-truth is as Chomsky says U.S. is trying to play a king-maker in welcoming Indiato Nuclear Weapons club. India is making an opportunity out of it to meet its energy needs. Though opportunism is not sustainable in the long run, as man cannot predict future, his life ends up as a series of opportunistic steps. Hence opportunism can't be avoided fully. We need ...
Why does Islam degrade women by keeping them behin
2007-09-07 02:54:00
Question: Why does Islam degrade women by keeping them behind the veil? Answer: The status of women in Islam is often the target of attacks in the secular media. The ‘hijaab’ or the Islamic dress is cited by many as an example of the ‘subjugation’ of women under Islamic law. Before we analyze the reasoning behind the religiously mandated ‘hijaab’, let us first study the status of women in societies before the advent of Islam 1.   In the past women were degraded and used as objects of lust  The following examples from history amply illustrate the fact that the status of women in earlier civilizations was very low to the extent that they were denied basic human dignity:  Babylonian Civilization:The women were degraded and were denied all rights under the Babylonian law. If a man murdered a woman, instead of him being punished, his wife was put to death. Greek Civilization: Greek Civilization is considered the most glorious o...

If a man is allowed to have more than one wife
2007-09-07 02:47:00
Question: If a man is allowed to have more than one wife, then why does Islam prohibit a woman from having more than one husband? Answer: A lot of people, including some Muslims, question the logic of allowing Muslim men to have more than one spouse while denying the same ‘right’ to women. Let me first state emphatically, that the foundation of an Islamic society is justice and equity. Allah has created men and women as equal, but with different capabilities and different responsibilities. Men and women are different, physiologically and psychologically. Their roles and responsibilities are different. Men and women are equal in Islam, but not identical. Surah Nisa’ Chapter 4 verses 22 to 24 gives the list of women with who you can not marry and it is further mentions in Surah Nisa’ Chapter 4 verse 24 "Also (prohibited are) women already married" The following points enumerate the reasons why polyandry is prohibited in Islam: 1.   If a man ...

HER DIARY Day night, I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a cafe to have some coffee. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment.  Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk, he agreed but he kept quiet and absent.  I asked him what was wrong - he said, "Nothing". I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry. On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept driving.  I can't explain his behavior; I don't know why he didn't say, "I love u, too". When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched TV; He seemed distant and absent. Finally I decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed. I decided that I could not take it anymore, so I...

A shattered dreamGlimpse
2007-09-05 21:00:00
It was pouring outside, Sunil entered his apartment complex completely drenched.  He fumbled with his keys for sometime before unlocking his apartment.  The only  source of light in his apartment was from the hallway entering through the half open door.  It was the first time Sunil was entering his dark apartment after Richa had left him.  He quickly turned on the lights and there she was staring right back at him, with a warm smile and her arms around him in the large photo frame right above the sofa.  They had clicked this picture way back in grad school when they were dating.  He looked at the photograph for a brief moment and went directly to his bedroom, where Richa was smiling again this time with henna and a dozen of lal chooda (red bangles) decorating her hands and  a faraway look in her eyes, as though she was seeing the future.  This photograph was taken during their wedding, he was standing besides her also giving a f...

TEACHERS DAY VERSES
2007-09-05 20:56:00
GIFT FROM MY TEACHERS  I love my teachers; By God’s grace, they Never taught anything That would have given me A vision beyond mediocrity.   GIFT TO MY TEACHER  In all my years As a student, I know One teacher alone Who asked us To go beyond What is taught. In the class To acquire knowledge. He was dismissed From the school As a bad influence. My first lessons of life, ‘Knowledge is never Obtained in classes. And, being too candid Has its own perils.’ Came to me Through the penalizing Of a honest idea. Here is a rose I offer from my heart In the memory of A teacher, who suffered For imparting the wisdom To his students that Education is only a Poor substitute to knowledge.

A curse of a broken heart
2007-09-05 20:50:00
I have a vivid memory, Of the moment, we first met… It was from then, when, My mind dream, I let.   It was you who first, Came and talked to me, It was you who made, My mind dream free.   Oh why ever did you, Make my hopes grow stronger, When you knew you would Not fulfill them any longer?   You are the cause of, My sad broken heart today, Never will I ever now, Fall as anyone’s prey.   This strange behavior of yours, Emotionally, has made me strong, Thanks to you, I now henceforth, Won’t make friends and do wrong.   Don’t you mistake me, My emotions as my weakness, When they are the one that now, Have become one of my assets.   Surely one day you will, Also fall as someone’s prey, This is a curse of a poor broken heart, It will be true in anyway.

I want to speak about Suvendu. Yes, I know that you all know who he is...you all can guess rightly that he is my school days heart throb. But it took me long to get over my inhibitions to tell the story of my infatuation. Now I want to share it with the whole world...if any of you know him, must forgive me for falling for him. For he was special,   So special in not so  special ways. He was earthy and swarthy. A ninth class student with a big-time attitude!!! And I was a girl of class 8, with two tight plaits and a jassi type chasma!(they use to call me Uloo chasmaloo), it  sounds like a perfect bollywood drama I know. But till the time I met him, I hardly had any idea of feeling like a heroin. On the contrary, I did not like being sent there... I use to rant over multiple drawbacks of the school at every single chance! I hated my parents’ idea to relocate me. Being a loner, it was hard for me to like such changes. I absolutely disliked everything in there,...

Is life irrelevant past retirement as one gets
2007-09-05 20:44:00
Is life irrelevant - past retirement as one gets older ? I retired   from a US Multinational Company  on May 31,1998 after completing 60 years . But I took up two assignments effective June 1,1998. In the eyes of people, I was not aretiree,my commercial value did not go down. I gave up one of the assignments in February next year because I did not like some thing and my  assignment in the other Company was made one with Executive power after a few months. It continued for couple years more. Early 2001 I decided to hang my boots and gave my employer notice. I took my retirement on May 31,2001 and on June 2 moved to Nashik where we decided to settle. This is when I faced some of the realities of life. It was not that I did not know about it, still there is a little pain of neglect. I read an article many years back written by a lady associated with Lions Internation on middleage and Old age is not so bad if one prepares as they approach. I prepared m...

The lessons were too hard. In computer jargon -'' Access Denied.''   '' You did not study, I think. Why ?'' He asked softly.  '' yes, I did .''  ''Then come to me after the classes are over.''   He had a serene look. He spoke gently and clearly ,  and  his baritone voice was awe-inspiring. But for a child of twelve he was a distant man.    The teachers'  room was upstairs. As soon as I was at the door he called me in and sat me beside.   '' Feeling hungry ? ''   I nodded.    '' Well, let's have some refreshment. Oh, before that inform your parents that you will be a little late today. ''  He dialled the number and talked to my mother.    The refreshment was sumptuous. And then instead of giving and taking  lessons we chatted away for more than an hour, and lo and behold, the  hard lessons turned so soft that even after so many years I remember them vividly.  ...

2011 World Cup

The new Chairman of the cricket board had been a public figure in the deep south of the country. He was now addressing an in camera meeting of the board. He said “As you all know, the 2011 World Cup would be a big event featuring teams from 18 nations, and the finals would be hosted by India, and be held in New Delhi. We’ve to select our team for the event. Guidelines for any selection have been issued by the government. It’s fortunate we’ve to choose only an all men’s team. Otherwise, we would’ve to select 5 women for the 15 member team.” There was laughter. He continued “As per the guidelines, we’ve to select 5 in all from dalits, and 2 from minority communities. I would’ve liked to reserve one for a handicapped player, but I can’t do it for obvious reasons.” The Coach said “We should be extra careful with our team selection as the Chinese have become formidable in the game. India will host the 2011 cricket world cupInternational Cricket Council (ICC) chief Ehsan Mani says he is "grateful " to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for personally ensuring tax exemption for the 2006 Champions Trophy and that the immunity will "allow " India to bid for the 2011 World Cup . "The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the ICC worked very closely to obtain the tax exemption. It would have been unfortunate, to say the least, if India had not been able to host the Champions Trophy, " Mani told IANS in an e-mail interview. "I am very grateful to the Prime Minister of India for personally intervening in this matter; this demonstrates the importance of cricket to the people of India, " said the ICC president. The London-based Mani said that the tax exemption, to be granted henceforth to all internationally recognised sports events to be held in India, would inspire the BCCI to bid for the 2011 World Cup. Akbar Hrithik suffered knee injury
2007-07-15 01:42:00
Macho star Hrithik is fast turning out to be quite accident prone. Not so long ago on the sets of father’s film Krrish, he met with a near fatal accident and now last week he hurt himself again on the sets of Akbar Jodha. He was shooting for some remaining patch- work for Ashutosh Gowariker’s Akbar Jodha in Rajasthan. “The temperature was 45 degrees and on the top of it Hrithik had to wear his Akbar costumes weighing 40 kilos. It was nightmare 40 kilos of costumes and shooting at 45 degrees, and in the process he injured his knees badly,” says a unit member. But being a professional, Hrithik completed his shoot before flying to Mumbai and back home he continued to keep all his commitments. “For him his work comes first and he will never let his producers suffer because of some small accident. I’m yet to see an actor more committed than him,” says Hrithik’s secretary Ashok. Wish we had more actors like him!

Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007)
2007-07-15 01:41:00
Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007)While not a scene-to-scene lift, Ta Ra Rum Pum borrowed the basic plotline from the Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman starrer ‘Days of Thunder’. Both films centered on a stock car race driver who struggled to regain his confidence on the racing track after he has a near-fatal accident. Along with the mandatory Bollywood fare of song and dance sequences, Ta Ra Rum Pum also had a family element of a wife and two kids thrown in it. Essentially TRRP is what culminates when Bollywood met Days of Thunder.
