It's Behind Me
2008-01-09 23:14:00 Thank you all for the motivating and thoughtful comments on the last photo, it was really great to see such a response :) The ever alert Husky, "Loup" (French for wolf) in her favorite place, the snow. Ilford Delta 100
Sunset Arch
2008-01-07 22:59:00 This has to be the most difficult photo I've ever taken. When I first visited Arches National Park, Utah, 3 months ago, I inadvertently took the wrong trail to the arch and missed photographing the sunset I wanted. 2nd time around I went to shoot another arch in the park in the late afternoon, upon trudging a mile through the snow to reach it I realized it was a morning shot, it was completely covered in shadow, d'oh. We raced back to the car and over to this arch, with time severely against me, I was dropped at the trail head (the right one this time!) and ran the mile long, mostly uphill path. With literally 2min to spare I quickly set up the camera gear and snapped a few shots. A truly elusive photograph! Fuji Velvia 50 (an awesome film!) More About: Sunset

End of the Season
2008-01-05 17:14:00 Taken before the big freeze up on Mt. Evans last year, already I'm feeling the itch to get back to the high places... Fuji Velvia 100 with a haze and polarizing filters. More About: Season

Monolith
2007-12-19 18:33:00 Another Arches shot. Kind of reminds me of "2001: A Space Odyssey", you know the scene with the towering rock with early evolution man running around it... anyway... Fuji Velvia 100.
Ying to the Yang
2007-12-17 17:32:00 The ever faithful hiking companions, caught the Holga. Kendyl the always willing chocolate lab on the right and Loup the very young sled-dog-in-training Husky on the left. What Photoblog is complete without it's dogs? ;-) More About: Yang
Under a Rock
2007-12-15 01:37:00 So last night was a pretty major meteor shower, there were few clouds in the sky and the light show was spectacular, so I thought it a good idea to pop out with the 35mm Yashica and get 2-3 30min exposures of the stars. I loaded the film up, went out, and spent 1 1/2 hours shooting only to find later that the shutter was playing up!!! Grrr... anyway rewound the film and fixed the problem with the shutter, but I missed the the opportunity, guess it was never to be... More About: Rock

The Line Up
2007-12-09 21:56:00 Monument Valley, Utah. Ilford Delta 100. My intention of using the Canonet QL with it's very raw look and feel and B&W film was to get an old western feel to the prints, the experiment worked reasonably well considering the Canonet is about as reliable as a Holga, though Delta 100 was probably too good for that camera. More from this series of scans to come! More About: Line

Western View
2007-12-06 18:22:00 Arches National Park, Utah, Fuji Velvia 100 (of course it would be ;-). The countless times these rocks have viewed the westering sun and the near timelessness of their formation is quite humbling, what is reassuring in our changing, "evolving" world is that they'll still be there, presiding over the setting sun and someone else will be awing at their majesty. Twin Peaks
2007-12-05 20:25:00 Near Moab Utah, Fuji Velvia 100. Clearing out a 2 month backlog of slides that need scanning, I'll love the surprises I find when scanning but hate the long editing and proofing process, processing 14 megapixel scans drains the computer... More About: Twin Peaks , Twin

Uphill Struggle
2007-11-29 19:11:00 Looking from our front deck, all the mountains around us are covered in snow, I wonder how these guys are doing up there in this weather. Remarkable creatures. Ilford FP5, on the Yashica Lynx with yellow filter.
Pinnacle Rock
2007-11-27 18:52:00 Monument Valley, Utah. Fuji Velvia 100. I realize the height of this image might be too large for some screen resolutions, by doing this I was hoping to achieve an effect that exaggerated the height of the sky. So my question to ya'll is, does it work or am I better off trying to squeeze it in for smaller resolutions? More About: Rock , Pinnacle

Give Me Liberty
2007-11-23 19:10:00 "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" - Patrick Henry I found this driving through a small village in rural New Mexico, it had "I'm a Holga photo" written all over it ;) The graffiti was accompanied by another political message, but I want keep my nose clean with the secret service, so we might not see it on this photoblog ;)
Red Sky Falling
2007-11-22 20:46:00 Believe it or not the cliff face in the sunset really was this vivid red, the Fuji Velvia 100 helped capture this awesome display of colors. I picked up the newly released 50 from Fuji the other day, can't wait to see what that will accomplish. Happy Thanksgiving everyone in the States!
