Colors of Fall
2007-10-08 18:51:00
Things have been a bit slow on the site of late. First of all my trusty D70 went for a swim in the creek, still uncertain if it's repairable and second I've been on a bit of a road trip for the last 3 days across Utah, Arizona, and southern Colorado, Lots of film to be developed! Thanks to everyone who has left comments and visited of late!

Deer Creek before the Fall and the changing of the foliage, might take a trip back up this evening to show the contrast of the seasons.
Junk Yard With a View
2007-10-01 16:36:00
35mm slide scan pulled from the archives from our trip back to Australia earlier in the year. This junk yard was a dump site during the war along Darwin's coast.

Clearing in the East
2007-09-30 03:42:00
I have found the ultimate camera store/lab in Denver, anyone in the Denver area in need of some lab work, go check out Englewood Camera, 5855 S. Broadway Littleton CO 80121. They just developed and scanned a bunch of films for me including this little medium format number of Mud Lakes in Mt. Evans Wilderness, and I was well impressed! Not to mention cheap too.

Back in Colorado after a long drive back from New Mexico, got a couple of photos worth posting on the digital, but film should be greatly anticipated.

Don't Slip!

First, big apologies for my lack of responses and the slow pace of new postings, I'm back down in New Mexico for a few days, so with a little luck I'll have some new visual treats for ya'll. This shot however is not of New Mexico ;) Taken in Rocky Mountain National Park, CO.

They Grew Legs

Taken on the trusty Holga, Ilford FP5 125 film. Interesting gallery opening last night, congrats to all who won! The competition was very tough, some truly amazing work was on display, both in skill and presentation.

Waves in Time
2007-09-19 20:04:00
Wood detail of a Bristlecone Pine, as I mentioned in a previous posting about these trees, some of them live as long as 1,600 years. What forces over the millennium caused these twists and knots? Very mysterious trees.

Around We Go
2007-09-17 19:23:00
Hope everyone had a great weekend, I know I said no more lakes in my last post, but this scene does have some goats in it at least! Again, Mt. Evans Wilderness with my beloved 35mm brick camera, the Yashica Lynx-14.
Wilderness
2007-09-15 22:00:00
Ok, last lake shot for now, though I have many more where these came from ;) Hiked out to Mud Lakes yesterday, a remote off trail lake system in Mt. Evans Wilderness . What an unfortunate name these lakes have, it is truly a beautiful area that's abundant in wildlife. We had a herd of Elk come through camp with their bugle calls echoing across the valley and lake, I think they were being pursued by Coyotes (aka prairie wolves) that sounded their howl soon after. This morning we watched one of the returning Elks, a 7 point antlered male, graze and scrutinize us from across the lake while an eagle patrolled and swooped on the far shore. Nonetheless a very eventful evening, and noisy ;)

Summit Lake
2007-09-13 21:44:00
It's not often I do a HDR image, every condition except for the glaring sun was perfect yesterday evening, so I attempted to filter out the glare with a HDR, kinda worked ;). Howdy to all the folks I meet up at Summit Lake yesterday evening! Glad to meet ya'll :) Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Denver!

Battle of Light and Darkness
2007-09-09 19:43:00
A mix of rain, cloud and sunlight meet us on the way down from a trip up the mountains. I'd have loved to have stayed up longer, but the light was quickly fading and without the right gear for staying over night, it would have been miserable cold evening.

A New Friend
2007-09-08 15:57:00
So I did it again a few weeks ago, I found another bargain at a yard sale, an 1979 Nikon EM. Sweet little camera, aperture priority, compact, but weighs a ton! You can feel the quality in these older cameras, I bet this thing could be thrown from a moving car and the only damage would be to the side walk!

Magic Mushroom

The gratuitous seasonal mushroom shot. I love watching the seasons go by, there's always something new and changing in the mountains and woods. Kind of looking forward to the winter too, slap on the snow shoes and snap some black and white photos ;)

A Mountain Goat on Mt. Evans. Ilford FP4 125 film. I have three other beautiful shots of these goats with a low golden light highlighting them... only problem is the carry strap of the camera got in the way! Ya gotta laugh :)

Night Sky
2007-09-05 06:21:00
Taken a few weeks back during the Perseid meteor shower. I was pretty despondent after I reviewed my digital results of the shower, as I mentioned in a previous post, but this came back from the photo lab today. I can't remember exactly how many seconds exposure this was, rough guess is over 30min. but the film used was Ilford FP4. I assume the streak in the middle of the frame was one of the meteors, at least that's what I'm sticking to ;)

Hope everyone in the States is having a great long weekend (what's left of it!). Cloud cover moving in from the south west on top of Mt. Evans.
Drowning
2007-09-02 06:40:00
Ilford FP4 on the Holga, I think it was a 6 second exposure. Had a frantic day back and forward to the photo lab, trying to get some prints and frames ready for a show I have a couple of pieces in, it's opening later in the month. There's a ton to do, business cards, revised bio, frames etc. A little nerve racking really, but good fun :)
Tractor Power
2007-08-31 18:19:00
I've had my eye on this tractor and some hay bails laying in the fields down the road for some time. Does anyone ever get to a point where they've obsessed about a picture so much that you can't tell if it's good or bad? This is one of those occasions.

Mirror Lake
2007-08-29 19:48:00
The full moon in the mountains last night was quite spectacular, though I don't think I got quite the shots I was hoping for. None the less the weather held out (even though it's bitterly cold this time of year at high altitude) and the wind was still, perfect conditions for a few lake panoramas.

Should be a full moon tonight, so I'll be heading up the mountains to try get some of that light over the lakes, well that's the plan anyway. Good ol' Ilford Delta 100 at the Catwalk, NM.

Old Guardian
2007-08-24 21:24:00
So yesterdays trip out didn't go as expected, I hit dense clouds at 11,000ft (hint: don't wander too far from your tent looking fire wood in the clouds, can't see a damn thing!) and the sunrise over Bear Track lake was obscured by clouds this morning. Got a couple of interesting shots going up though, these bristlecone pines can live over 1,600 years, for a comparison, some these trees were saplings at the end of the Roman empire, pretty neat eh?

Alone in the Woods
2007-08-22 19:28:00
The latest Holga photographs have uploaded by my photo lab, I wish I could scan 120 format negatives myself, but unfortunately not to many companies make the scanners any more :( I wouldn't have thought the medium was that obsolete in certain art circles? Ilford FP5 on the beloved Holga.

Molded Rocks
2007-08-21 18:44:00
Whitewater Creek rolls down about 4,000ft from the Mogollon mountains and ends at the Catwalk, a series of raised walkways that hover over the gorge and rock formations made by the flowing creek. A very spectacular place but very difficult to photograph, unless your shooting in the dark shadow of the rocks or camp out nearby over night, the intense New Mexico sun washes out most scenes.
