Want to improve your exam results?
2007-12-07 23:10:00
As a high school senior I know that all educational institutions love to make our life more difficult with tons of exams. Getting through hasn't ever been a problem for me but getting acceptable grades hasn't always been easy. What would you if I told you there is software designed to help you do better in exams just a couple of clicks away? Say that I must be kidding? But I'm telling the truth. Exam -prep.com offers educational solutions for Real Estate, Appraisal, Home Inspection, etc.I'm actually a little surprised because there aren't more of products like this available. A lot of our life has something to do with Internet, why not studying. In my opinion the best thing about the software is that they offer practice tests that easily show you what things you already handle and what needs to be worked on. This is important because self-evaluation is one of the hardest things for a student. Now you wonder what all it's going to cost. And the answer is that no more than a computer...

The Simpsons Movie
2007-12-03 18:50:00
Did you know that The Simpsons Movie dvd just came out?I'm a true fan of the series and I've seen almost all seasons. It's a sad fact the quality of the shows has been too stellar lately. But who can blame them when the show has been out here for ages ( There is one episode in South Part where they refer to this several times. I believe it was "Simpsons did it")Despite the ups and downs of the series the movie is really good stuff. They've gotten back into the essence that made the series so popular: absurd plot and hilarious characters. The best thing of all is that the movie has something for everybody. Kids laugh at the the funny things that happen and adults find tons of references to popular culture and politics.I will not spoil the fun by telling you more about the movie itself. I just say that it's really worth watching!

Are you still looking for a suitable gift for him or her?If so I suggest you to check out www.OpticsPlanet.com. They offer a variety of optics from binoculars to cameras and night vision equipment. If you don't find what you're looking for it probably doesn't even exist. And they take care of their customers. You can start by checking out the gift guide and best sellers. I found a lot of interesting stuff I would love to have. Check out this Leica. There aren't many compact cameras that are as good as it is. Or these binoculars with built-in camera. Time management series: part 2
2007-12-02 14:22:00
It's for the second tip of the series.Today's tip: Think how much time you need and then double it for your timetableWe're still in the basics of basics. Countless times have I noticed that the schedule is too tight and all the great plans start to go wrong. I realized that doubling the estimations is closer to the reality + it keeps you from piling up too much stress. This way you actually can stick to your schedules.

Clearing the blog design
2007-12-01 16:24:00
As you may have noticed, some changes have taken place in the design of the blog.I decide go for a plain white background and simple title for now. I also got rid of some some of the ads and other widgets because they made the design look messy. Only the adsense text ads stayed.

How to make your holiday cards more personal
2007-11-30 20:16:00
It's that time again. Sending tens of holiday cards to all your family and friends. What bugs me with those cards is that they're all the same. I've seen the same Santa thousand times.I've thought about making the cards myself but the fact is that I'm too lazy to do that. Isn't there a way to make personalized holiday cards without extra hassle.Well... actually there's quite an interesting way I want to tell you about. A company called Vistaprint offers personalized Christmas cards. You can order holiday cards with custom texts and photos. There's a lot to choose from. This is my favorite. I like the simple design. Too much stuff makes the card look... well... homemade. My photo and my name next to it. That's all I need.Christmas is pretty much the only time in the year when I send cards to a lot of people. Could I have found out about Vistaprint's cards at a better moment?photo cards

The time management series: part 1
2007-11-28 12:09:00
It seems things turned out differently. I managed my time a little and found time to start the time management series now. I'm going to tell one thing that I've found useful in my studies and life.Today's tip: Make daily scheduleIt sounds and is very obvious. But why so few people do that. Why don't you make daily schedules? It restricts you right? I thought so too before my teacher encouraged me to try it out.It took a couple of hours to build a basic weekly frame in Excel where I can add or remove things as I like. The first thing it it did was make realize how much time I waste by doing nothing. You know the time that when somebody asks what you've done today you don't know what to answer.Realizing this fact actually makes your days more efficient and instead of restricting you they offer more free time. It only takes a couple of days to get used of thinking about future and making schedules. I've actually faced a problem of what to do with all this time... I decided to ...

Time for time management
2007-11-27 13:25:00
As you've probably noticed I've been geen quite rushed recently. (or actually you haven't noticed it... my stupid thoughts)   Anyways I'm once again in the middle of exams period. The final exams are also closing way too quicky.   So much for meaningless introduction stuff. I just wanted to say that I'm not going to be able to pay much attention to this blog or my other social nerworking platforms. Right now I'm looking at the big picture. Education is an important piece in that puzzle.     [ I've been focusing on time managent skills a lot recently so expect an article about that in near future ]

Thoughts about Jokela high school shooting
2007-11-08 21:54:00
It's now been 36 hours since the tragedy in Tuusula begun. You all probably have heard about it in the news. 9 people killed, including the killer himself who died in a hospital last night. You don't really need me to tell about these facts that we all know but I want to share some of my thoughts I have right now.I've been watching a picture of the killer in a newspaper and trying to figure out what made him do such horrible things. He looks pretty normal to me. Nothing tells you that he's one capable of killing 8 innocent people and himself.I've also read the manifesto written by the killer. He has obviously been reading thoughts of many philosophers and combined fractions of the to create a theory to support what he has done. It is also written in very sophisticated language and it shows that he isn't stupid and has been thinking about it for a long period of time. The text also shows clearly that the killer thinks he's better than other people. I can't help thinking about ...

Jokela high school shootings
2007-11-07 18:19:00
A couple of hours ago a shooting took place in a Finnish high school circa 100 kilometers from where I live.An 18-year-old student killed several people with a handgun. He described himself as a "social Darwinist" "anti-human humanist" and various others. He "eliminates all he sees unfit"Again has a madman brought death to our lives here.I'm really disturbed because of this right now. Where is this world going?CNN reportsHe posted footage on youtube and other locations on the day before. In the videos he is shown shooting in a forest, poses with a gun and some kind of twisted news report "massacre in Jokela high school". Search the web you'll find the videos if you want.

How to turn your 300D, 350D, 400D viefinder the size of 40D
2007-11-04 09:33:00
After using the great viewfinders of the film days the tiny window the 350D looks just awful. The small viewfinder alone is a reason that made think about upgrading to a 30D and later 40D. But we all know that spending money on bodies isn't the right way to go. They lose their value in no time. It's good glass that you want instead. Kind of paradoxic because I need a better viewfinder to handle those lenses. I did some research lately and found out something that really made me happy. Both Nikon and Olympus offer magnifying eyepieces. Better still the Nikon dk-21m fits Canon without any hassle (according to a Finnish webstore and many forum posts). The Nikon eyepiece magnifies the viewfinder by factor 1.17. The original viewfinder magnification in Rebels is 0.8. So we do just some simple math: 1.17x 0.8 =0.936 Olympus OM-1 offers slightly grater magnification actor 1.2 but I'm not sure it can be fitted on Canon. 1.2 x 0.8 = 0,96 Now some facts: 30D viewfinder magnific...

Goal: back to shape
2007-10-25 19:45:00
Back to shape may not be the right expression because I haven't ever been able to reach the climax I've wanted to. It's just that life gets in the way at some point. By the time in shape I mean the period of time when I had lost almost 20kg. From a over 100kg tank a got to 85 kilograms. I've actually been able to maintain the weight because I got rid of some of the bad habits I used to have. The problem is that I want more. Who wants to be an average when you can be better. It may be that you can't be the BEST but you can certainly beat 95% or people with just hard work. My goal is to reach 85 kilograms of weight and fat percentage of 12. This means that I'm going to have to lose fat and build some muscle as well. I've decided to set the goal to the end of December. How am I going to do that? I'm going to use methods that worked before and combine them to some new. A 4-day routine where I train the entire body twise in a week. I'm used to going through the entire bo...

EdealFinder.com - How to save money
2007-10-16 09:28:00
SPONSOREDIn addition to the Xbox 360 I've been looking for a high-performance laptop. I found out that Edealfinder.com has something special to offer: They offer coupons that simply mean lower prices and/or extra advantages. And they happened to have exactly what I needed: They offer HP coupons. I was very happy to notice that they offer Dell discounts as well. This means I have many brands to choose form and compare their offers. Both of them are among the largest companies in business. Big company means that it's reliable and they choose their partners well. You can trust EdealFinder.com because such large companies wouldn't risk their business by having unreliable partners. I saved the best for last: You'll save a lot of money (You can save over 200 dollars when you buy a Dell laptop).BlueNile coupons

More about the Xbox 360
2007-10-15 13:17:00
I went to a local store today and asked about Xbox 360. I've really been thinking of buying one and my main question right now is how it works with a normal tv. The salesman told me that normal tvs are underrated. He told that image quality beats the low-end cheap flat screens easily. I can believe that because I've seen the evolution of flat screens because I almost bought one 2 years ago and have been watching the market really carefully ever since. Especially the dark tones are more gray than black. The problem isn't as bad nowadays and TVs are actually almost affordable. A year ago I was thinking of a 32 inch Sony for circa 1500 euros. And I thought it was pretty good deal. Today I could buy a 37-40 inch Full HD TV for the same price. But back to the Xbox. The shop I visited has specialized in selling used games. They offered me a dela that for 5 old xbox games I get a discount of 100 euros for buying a 360. It sounded pretty good. In fact I could tweak the system and...

My garage is a mess
2007-10-14 12:04:00
SPONSOREDI'm almost constantly bothered by the messiness of my home. Occasionally I do a real cleaning and get rid of stuff that takes too much space or isn't needed too often. The question is where I put all that stuff. Well... to my garage. It's filled with stuff from car to boxes that include stuff that I don't even know I own. The worst part is that all this stuff is needed occasionally. I can't just burn then in my backyard as I'd frankly like to do.So what I need is some sort of storage system. Shelves and stuff like that would be really useful because I could sort my belongings so that I would actually be able to find them when I need them. Another great thing would be some sort of rack for bikes so that they wouldn't consume so much space. The rooms in my garage are quite high but the area is scarce. This way I could store the bikes efficiently and save room for other things.garage storage

Interesting times on the gaming front
2007-10-14 11:37:00
This fall is one of the most interesting ones for a gamer. By a gamer I mean a person whose main interest is gaming, not the hardware or all the boring stuff behind the scenes. Many interesting games have recently drawn my interest. Anyone who knows anything about gaming knows about Halo -series on Xbox. They also know that Halo 3, the one to end the story has recently been published. Well I'm a proud owner of the first generation Xbox. I've played both Halo 1 and 2 through several times. And I still love them. When Halo 3 was released I instantly started to think about buying Xbox 360. Halo 3 is seriously a game that could make me spend hundreds of euros. The reviews that I've read don't exactly help to keep my finances balanced. They say that Halo 3 is simply the best Halo and an superb end to the saga. Another game of intrest is Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. I used to be totally addicted on the original Enemy Territory and my expectations were high. But a bitter surpris...

In search for inspiration
2007-10-02 14:33:00
I've had really great days recently and I feel that I've improved as a photographer. But now I've hit the plateau. The inspiration, the feeling, the touch or whatever you wish to call it is gone. I've heard that this kind of development is usual when you work on something for longer periods of time. Relationships, work, everything. You have good and bad periods. The main thing I'm concerned right now is how to break the plateau and move on. Right now I've increased the timed used to reading and actually going through different galleries. I watch people's galleries and study their progress. This state is really depressing. I have enough time in my hands but inspiration just refuses to come.

Sorry about the silence

Because of my studies I haven't been able to write anything for a while. I'm going to write something worthwhile soon. For now I'll just tell you what I've recently been into:Buying used cameras online: There's a lot of good stuff out there just waiting to be bought. I just bought a Yashicamat and an old m42-mount slr with a bunch of lenses. The best part is that they could easily be sold for higher or same price I paid for them.Metallica videos:You already know this but I must say that I'm still hypnotized by their old videos. About Pagerank: Choose your websites focus and name carefully
2007-08-31 20:31:00
There's no doubt about that Google is the leading search engine and what is visible in Google is exposed to a huge audience. The best part is that people tend to be quite relevant too. Sounds like a perfect deal to me. But, as always, there's a catch.Google has become number one search engine because of it's good and relevant search results. (I'm not sure how much their marketing has affected to it's power but you can google to find out ;-) )Google pagerank is something that a lot of people discuss these days. Pagerank is also the catch in the perfectness of Google as a marketing tool. Your content must be useful to be visible to be seen in Google. This is vital because without this kind of system the Internet would have fallen apart long time ago because the lack of relevant information in the middle of meaningless words. Pagerank meters the usefulness of your site (how many links lead to it). This is the reason why setting up web directories that require back-linking is good ...

Oh caffeine How wonderful you are You keep me running until I fall apart You make me live When I almost die Of caffeine These were just some spontaneous lines that wrote while thinkin how addicted I'm getting with that stuff. I drink 3-6 cups of coffee + several energy drinks. All this is because of the great exams just behind the corner. 24 hours per day just isn't enough. I need to get more time and less sleep. Caffeine is my friend. The only thing I'm worried a bout is how I can get rid of this lousy addiction and it's side-effects when less sleep isn't desired anymore. [I'm sorry about the recent silence. Social networks and money
2007-08-16 19:09:00
I've recently studied social networks in our lives. I've found out that they affect us far more than I thought. In addition to this fact I've slowly started to learn how to benefit from these networks the most. You probably know that people who have a lot of friends have more power than others. There are exceptions but this should work as the basic idea. People with a lot of friends usually know someone in power and therefore have a lot more power than their own position would suggest. Things are no different on Internet. Now let us get into the real thing: I'm talking about making money by using social networks. Blog communities like MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog are a good examples of a social network that can be taken advantage of. I've seen some people who use the system by adding a lot of people to their friends. People that they've never heard of. This method works on three stages. The first and also the most obvious effect is that by adding a lot of people to your f...

Business in Second Life
2007-08-15 14:44:00
(I was unable to find a free promo picture for the entry but check their flickr community to see what the world online looks like)I recently watched a document about Second Life . It focused on the financial potential of Second Life and the people who already earn their living there. Most of them designed clothes, furniture or haircuts that were sold to people then. What makes this so interesting is that Second Life money can be turned into real-life dollars. People can make real money by selling things that only exist on the databases of Second Life. I would say that this is one of the phenomena that are connected to Internet 2. Not only can people find info, they can add their own and earn money. I guess it's at least Internet 2.1.I instantly started to think about possible ways of taking advantage on this phenomena. As a photographer I started to think about kicking up a virtual gallery where I could show and sell my works. In addition to virtual images I could offer real prints...
