Christian religions had to suffer a massive decline in membership over the last 30 years, the study said. According to the 1971 census 6.49 million Austrians were Catholic. By 2006 that number had shrunk to 5.63 million. The number of Protestants went down by 120,000 to 326,000 faithful during the same period.At the same time, the number of Muslims in Austria increased 15- fold - from 22,200 in 1971 to around 400,000 in 2006, the study said. An update on this story.A worker at Heathrow airport who became the first woman to be convicted under new terrorism legislation has today been spared a prison term.Samina Malik, 23, called herself the "lyrical terrorist" and stocked a "library" of material that would be useful to terrorists at her family home in Southall, west London.She wrote poems called How To Behead and wrote on the back of a WH Smith till receipt: "The desire within me increases every day to go for martyrdom."Malik, who worked at the stationery shop, was given a nine month suspended jail sentence after her conviction at the Old Bailey under the Terrorism Act 2000 last month.She had already spent five months in custody.Described as an unlikely but committed Islamic extremist, Malik told the court she had only given herself the name because she thought it was "cool".She insisted in court that she was not a terrorist but prosecutors she had visited a website linked to jailed cleric Abu Hamza and stored material ab...

A MYSTERIOUS Muslim cleric has written to the grieving family of slain Australia n soldier Luke Worsley saying their son "died for nothing" while carrying out an "evil" act.John Worsley, the father of the 26-year-old commando, received the letter from "Sheik Haron" days after his son was killed by the Taliban in Afghanistan.The letter, also posted on Sheik Haron's website, urges Mr Worsley not to "be proud" of his son."We can't be proud when we lose our dear kids for nothing," says the letter, dated November 25, two days after Worsley was killed.
