Suspect wants troopers to prove they can sniff out pot

Suspect wants troopers to prove they can sniff out potBy BILL RANKINThe Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionPublished on: 07/08/08 Two North Georgia troopers say they followed their noses to the 10 pounds of marijuana stashed in the trunk of a car they'd stopped on I-75. Troopers Jeff Adamson and Kevin Turner said they caught a whiff of "raw marijuana" from within Jarmane Vernon Knox's car. This gave them probable cause to search, find the pot and then arrest Knox and his passenger, Derrick Mikes. But Knox, of Chattanooga, claims that something about the arrest smells funny. Specially trained dogs are often used to sniff out illicit drugs, but is the human nose that sensitive? The dispute has spawned a novel challenge in a court motion filed in Gordon County Superior Court. It seeks a court order to have the marijuana put back inside a trash bag and placed in the trunk of a random car in the courthouse parking lot. The troopers would then be given the chance to prove they can...

I know some of the Georgia guys are going to be pissed at me for reposting ( Written By G.E.) this but sometime being a party man does not override  common sense. This will be the last post for a while on Bob Barr . I understand You should not talk ill of the dead but you should smart enough to know this man was not liked by Libertarians. Bob Barr would have been better off keeping this to himself. If this is how he felted then he should have sent a private letter to the family . Why would you poke the hard core Libertarians in the eye with this press release. I will continue to work on state party stuff including are great local candidates. If I am wrong about this please email and let me know where I am wrongThis is posted at www.lastfreevoice.wordpress.com. I hope G. E. does not mind Bob Barr: Statist, abortionist, homophobe, and now racist I have given Bob Barr every last possible chance to win my support. I have overlooked his part in...

Steve Kubby: “States’ Rights” is an Anti-Libertarian Concept
2008-06-30 17:01:00
This was posted on the Last free voice today. I like steve kubby I voted for him at the Denver Convention for VP. Steve Kubby: “States’ Rights” is an Anti -Libertarian  Concept The following is published with the permission of the author, Steve Kubby. Steve Kubby is, of course, a highly respected longtime Libertarian activist, a former candidate for Governor of California, and a popular 2008 Libertarian presidential candidate. “States Rights” is an Anti-Libertarian Concept By Steve Kubby The concept of “FEDERALISM” is properly used to describe a system of government in which sovereignty is constitutionally divided between the federal government and the states. In contrast, the term “STATES’ RIGHTS” is a fraudulent and profoundly ANTI-Libertarian concept that has no other purpose but to deceive and rob us of our natural, inalienable, inseparable, non-transferable rights as human beings. The Ninth Amendment says: “The numeration in the Constitution, of certa...

Barr: GOP says one thing and does another
2008-06-29 14:32:00
From the www.thehill.com Barr : GOP says one thing and does another By Klaus Marre Posted: 06/29/08 12:09 PM [ET] Libertarian Party presidential candidate Bob Barr, who has some Republicans worried that he might take votes from their nominee, on Sunday accused the GOP and its standard-bearer Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) of saying one thing and doing another. “What’s wrong with John McCain is symptomatic of what’s wrong with the Republican Party in these first years of the 21st century,” said Barr, a former Republican congressman from Georgia. “They talk one thing but do something different, and that’s become very obvious to the American people.” When asked about his potential role as spoiler, Barr said on Fox News Sunday that, “if [Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)] wins on November 4th and Sen. McCain and I lose, it will be because he presented a vision and a platform and a candidacy to the American people that resonated with a plurality of...

To Clean Out K Street Cut Government, Says Bob Barr
2008-06-28 14:49:00
Saturday, June 28, 2008 This is on www.nationelections.blogspot.comTo Clean Out K Street Cut Government , Says Bob Barr “Big Government reduces our liberty and prosperity,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president. “It also corrupts the political process. For it is pursuit of federal dollars and regulatory privileges that has led to the explosive growth of the lobbying complex we call K Street,” explains Barr. After the Republican Party took control of Congress in 1994, the GOP leadership attempted to take control of K Street, forcing the hiring of more Republicans and using the lobbies for partisan advantage. “Now the Democrats, having won control of Congress in 2006, are trying to do the same,” observes Barr. Roll Call reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and other Democratic leaders are demanding that K Street accept and work with the new rulers of Capitol Hill.“Unfortunately, the housing legislation ...

Bob Barr money bomb getting Press This was in The Colorado Independent   Bomb s away! Ron Paul supporters organize cash drop for Bob Barr By Wendy Norris 06/27/2008 It was only a matter of time before the warring sides came together to support their presidential candidate. But lest you think Sen. Hillary Clinton's sullen supporters are suddenly unifying with their primary rival and now presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, the Libertarians are showing how they wear their big-boy pants. The Ron Paul Revolution fans are organizing a "money bomb" on Wednesday to help the cash-strapped Barr-Root Libertarian ticket. Can the Paulites work their political holiday-inspired magic yet again for Bob Barr, the former Republican congressman from Georgia who helped lead the drive to impeach Bill Clinton who staged a surprise presidential bid for the Libertarian Party nomination? On Dec. 16, 2007, the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, the Paul campaign hauled...

Op-Ed by James Bell 404-452-4668 Have Mercy ! The recent arrest of Macon radio talk show host (WMAC News Talk 940)Shayne McBryde for possessing a small amount of cannabis in his homeshould light a fire under Georgia 's Gold Dome to decriminalize thepersonal and private possession of marijuana. Our jails and courts are full. Law enforcement personnel certainlyhave better things to do than harass otherwise law abiding citizens.Around one million Americans are arrested each year for marijuana.Taxpayers have spent hundreds of millions of dollars locally andbillions nationally chasing the "evil weed" and those who use. It still eludes me how McBryde poses any threat to me or his neighborsfor possessing marijuana in his home. A bottle of wine in myneighbor's home certainly poses no threat me.Cases like this should be used to challenge the constitutionality ofGeorgia's marijuana laws. In 1974, the last time the constitutionalitywas challenged, the court required the defendant to prove that...

Bob Barr Calls Heller Decision on Gun Rights “One of Court’s Most Important Rulings on behalf of Liberty ”Washington , DC - Today the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the individual right of Americans to own guns in District of Columbia v. Heller.  The ruling “will go down as one of the Supreme Court’s most important rulings on behalf of liberty,” says Libertarian Party presidential candidate Bob Barr. Until today, the Court had never held that the Second Amendment directly applied to individuals. “Today’s decision marks a new era for gun rights in America ,” explains Barr, who is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association.  Barr also drafted the Libertarian Party’s amicus curiae brief in Heller.  “By protecting an individual’s right to keep and bear arms, the Second Amendment ensures that all Americans are able to participate in sporting activities, hunt, and protect themselves and their families,” he explains. The rig...

Bob Barr Says U.S. Must Cut United Nations Role and Budget
2008-06-26 19:19:00
Bob Barr Says U.S. Must Cut United Nations Role and Budget On this day in 1945 the U.S. and other countries signed the United Nations Charter.  Unfortunately, “the UN has been an enormous disappointment,” says Libertarian Party presidential candidate Bob Barr.   “The U.S. should push to roll back the UN’s functions and slash America ’s financial contribution.”Expectations for the UN initially were high:  before the signing, President Harry S. Truman said “At no time in history has there been a more important Conference than this one.”  Obviously, “President Truman had no sense of history,” notes Barr.  “ America ’s constitutional convention always had a much better claim to that honor.”Nor was President Truman much of a prophet.  “The United Nations has turned out far different than expected,” says Barr.  The budget is bloated. “The UN has become a huge, bloated and costly bureaucracy, constantly seeking ways to ...

Bob Barr on ANWARJune 19, 2008 6:35 pm EST Atlanta, GA -- “The United States has large energy deposits within its own borders and off its shores.” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president.  “It is time for America to develop those resources to benefit the American people.” The Democratic Party remains a large road block to a better energy future, since it even opposes exploration to determine how much oil and natural gas we have.  “Sen. Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats say they want to promote a prosperous America, but they are committed to keeping us dependent on expensive foreign energy sources,” Barr observes. Unfortunately, Sen. John McCain is little better. He is “a late and uncertain convert to a smarter energy policy,” says Barr.  For years Sen. McCain, like most of his Democratic colleagues, opposed allowing development of the Outer Continental Shelf, thought to contain 86 billion barrels of oil, and the Arctic Nation...

Bob Barr on Private Property
2008-06-24 14:47:00
Bob Barr on Private Property June 23, 2008 12:27 pm EST Atlanta, GA -- Three years ago today the U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision in Kelo v. City of New London, undercutting the Constitution’s protection against the unlawful taking of private property.  “In Kelo the Supreme Court held that government could take private property to give away to private developers so government could collect more tax revenue,” explains Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president.  “That allows governments across America to ignore the Fifth Amendment’s clear requirement that property be taken only for a ‘public use’,” Barr adds. Many states responded to Kelo by restricting the use of eminent domain to conform to the Constitution’s language rather than to the Court’s interpretation.  But abuses still occur.  Thus, “the president should direct all federal departments and agencies to avoid the seizure of private property except as a last resort,...

Bob Barr on the department of educationJune 24, 2008 12:13 am EST Atlanta, GA -- The federal Department of Education is spending almost $70 billion this year on a function not even mentioned in the Constitution.  “The Department should be closed down and the money left with the American people to use for education at the family, local, and state levels,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party presidential nominee. While spending so much money on programs that should not exist, in 2003 the Congress created a small voucher program started for students in Washington, D.C., which has some of the worst schools in the nation.  Now the Democratic majority is planning on killing the initiative, putting nearly 2000 students back into the failed public school system.  “The only federal education program Congress wants to get rid of is the one doing the most to help poor kids,” observes Barr. But since education is not a federal responsibility, “a better way to promote...

On top of that, Bob's running mate, Wayne Allyn Root, has been hitting the radio waves several times a day to promote our ticket. Our staff is coming together strongly as our web team has relocated from California to our campaign hub in Atlanta . Bob Barr Urges Congress : No Surveillance of Americans Without Fourth Amendment Protections June 19, 2008 6:33 pm EST Atlanta , GA -- “In asserting his power to conduct warrantless searches of Americans, President George W. Bush has expressed his clear contempt for the Fourth Amendment.  So has Sen. John McCain, despite his reputation as a supposed maverick,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president.  Now the Democratic-led Congress is preparing to approve a so-called compromise that gives the Bush administration almost everything it wants in order to expand dramatically the power of the federal government to surveil American citizens without court orders.  “ America desperately needs leaders who will stand up for the Bill of Rights,” observes Barr, “not those who flaunt its vital and time-honored protections.” The president already has the power to conduct surveillance of foreign terrorists.  The 30-year old Foreign Intelligence ...

(Web) RALEIGH — Libertarian candidate for governor Michael Munger's name will be on the ballot alongside Democrat Bev Perdue and Republican Pat McCrory. So, the Duke political science professor reasons he should be alongside them at upcoming debates. But at least one upcoming debate will exclude him while other hosts are having to be reminded that North Carolina officially has three parties. "If I'm invited to the debate, and I do a bad job, voters are going to say 'I'm not interested,'" Munger said. "If I do a good job, if I raise some ideas, some issues that other people aren't talking about, I can make the political system more competitive, more transparent.......

Bob Barr Challenges John McCain to Debate “Worst” Supreme Court Decision June 17th, 2008 Posted in Bob Barr | No Comments » From the Bob Barr 2008 Campaign: Barr Says Decision a Victory for Rule of Law, Constitution Atlanta, GA — “The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the importance of the ancient writ of habeas corpus, one of the bedrock guarantees of American liberty,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president. The procedure, which predates America’s founding in British legal tradition, forces the government to justify an arrest in court. However, Sen. John McCain called the decision “one of the worst decisions in the history of this country.” That is quite charge given a legal history that includes Supreme Court opinions such as Dred Scott, observes Barr. “The Court’s habeas corpus decision was a victory for all Americans more than any particular litigant, since it affirmed the duty of the executive branch to obey the law,” Barr explains. The...

The dream nominee is McCain's nightmare Current rating:3.08 by 25 users.   By Don McKeeColumnist Bob Barr has pumped new life into the Libertarian Party since winning its presidential nomination and a shot at spoiling Republican John McCain's chances. "Our phones are ringing off the hook and the e-mail inquiries have increased," Georgia party chairman Daniel Adams exulted last week in a news release. "We are seeing an increase in volunteerism, memberships and inquiries from the media has increased dramatically. We have never seen anything like this." Barr, a former Republican congressman from Marietta, has generated more news coverage for the little Libertarian party in eight weeks than it received in the previous eight years, a LP official said. Likewise, Texas Libertarians have been "energized" and are "extremely excited" over Barr's candidacy, a party official told a reporter before Barr spoke Saturday at the state convention in Fort Worth. They were so excited...

Bob Barr in the Houston Chronicle www.chron.comLibertarian candidate Barr says 2008 is 3rd-party year By ANGELA K. BROWNAssociated Press FORT WORTH, Texas — Americans are so fed up with the country's direction and worsening problems that this is the year they'll send a third-party candidate to the White House, Libertarian presidential nominee Bob Barr said Saturday. Barr, a former Republican congressman from Georgia, said at the Libertarian Party of Texas convention that he is asking citizens: "Have you had enough? ... I think this year, in this cycle, in this election, the answer will be yes." The luncheon crowd of about 125 gave Barr a standing ovation. In the parking lot, one pickup's bumper sticker read: "No more Republicrats. Choose freedom." Barr said polls show that Americans "by a distressingly large margin" feel the nation is on the wrong track. "They are desperate for change, desperate for something that will rekindle their hope. That's an opportunity that we have ...

Bob Barr may get post-Paul boost
2008-06-14 04:17:00
This is in todays www.ajc.com. I know a few people in this article and have enjoyed working with them. I would like to point out one thing in the article. Ike Hall said some people will vote for Chuck Baldwin. That will not happen in Georgia.Chuck Baldwin and Ralph Nader will not be on the ballot because your State house Reps and state Senators belive they know what is best for you and have keep them off the ballot. I can not believe people do not get upset with the lack of candidates we have to choose from. Maybe if the Georgia house can narrow our option down to one candidate by law we would be happy. If they took your right to vote away you would be up in arms but if they limit your options down to nothing you are O.K.? Non-intervention simply means America does not interfere militarily, financially, or covertly in the internal affairs of other nations. It does not we that we isolate ourselves; on the contrary, our founders advocated open trade, travel, communication, and diplomacy with other nations.” – source Bob Barr: “Our National Defense policy must renew a commitment to non-intervention. We are not the world’s police force and our long, yet recently tarnished, tradition of respecting the sovereignty of other nations is necessary, not from only a moral standpoint, but to regain...

Russ Verney asks for money for ballot access
2008-06-13 15:32:00
Dear Friend, Since I wrote you late yesterday, several hundred people have rushed us a contribution to help the Barr/Root Presidential campaign be on all 50 state ballots this November 4th. As you can imagine in a Presidential campaign there are hundreds (and sometimes it feels like thousands) of important projects that need our immediate attention, but in June – one issue dominates all others. And as I’m sure you know its making sure we get on all 50 state ballots. About 27 states are relatively easy but 23 take varying degrees of work But no question, Oklahoma is the hardest state.  In 2004 Oklahoma voters’ only choice was between a Republican and a Democrat. No third party or independent candidate was on the ballot – in fact they’ve rigged the election rules in Oklahoma so you can’t even write in a candidate’s name. Late yesterday, I got a phone call from Oklahoma State Chair, Angela O’Dell. To say Angela is passionate about her job as State Chair would ...
