Libertarian Gubernatorial Candidate Slams GA 400 Toll Extension, Calls it "
2010-09-28 00:23:00 Libertarian Gubernatorial Candidate Slams GA 400 Toll Extension , Calls it "Breach of Public Trust" Contact: Daniel N. Adams - (404) 353-6004 daniel@votemonds.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE With recent news that the State Road and Tollway Authority voted to extend the toll collection for GA-400 until 2020, John Monds, the Libertarian Party of Georgia's nominee for Governor, expressed his outrage at the action. He thinks that the extension is another example of the continuous breaches of trust between the state government and the people of Georgia. Governor Sonny Perdue, who leads that SRTA, said that the extension of the tolls for use of GA-400 will pay for future projects to accommodate the growth of the region that the toll road serves. This shows the people of Georgia that the state government is willing to break promises made to continue receiving funds; funds that will be diverted for other uses, rather than sticking to the promises made at the onset of the project.... Libertarians say Republicans owe apology, not pledge, to America
2010-09-24 22:22:00 Libertarians say Republicans owe apology, not pledge, to America WASHINGTON - In response to the recent Republican "Pledge to America," Libertarian Party executive director Wes Benedict released the following statement: Instead of a "Pledge to America," the Republicans should have written an "Apology to America." It should have gone something like this: "We're sorry, America. Sorry we grew the federal government budget from $1.7 trillion to over $3 trillion. Sorry we added $5 trillion to the federal debt. Sorry we doubled the size of the Department of Education. Sorry we started two incredibly costly foreign wars. Sorry we supported the absurd and costly TARP bailouts. Sorry we created a huge and costly new Medicare entitlement. Sorry we did nothing to end the costly and destructive War on Drugs. Sorry we did nothing to reform the federal government's near-prohibition on immigration. But hey, at least we helped you by shifting a lot of your tax burden onto your children and gra... Why Libertarian? by John Jay Myers
2010-09-24 17:00:00 Why Libertarian ? by John Jay Myers 9/21/2010 I am asked “Why don’t you run as a Republican? You could do so much good in the Republican Party”. I should not be upset, after all it’s sort of a compliment “they like me, they really like me”! It’s hard to respond, because I don’t feel like knocking any ones attempt at freedom or smaller government. As a somewhat influential member of the Libertarian Party, some might take exception to my comment “I believe in Principle before Party”. I do believe this, but let me say I also believe the Libertarian Party needs to flourish and become a true option for the American people. It would be silly for me to tell people that they should not always vote for party and then tell them that they should only vote for mine. However, I would like to take this time to explain the many reasons why I believe people should run, and vote Libertarian. But My Teacher Says......: I was forwarded a letter the other day from the Texas Secr...

2010-09-23 16:21:00 Chuck Donovan: Statement on Filibuster Opposing Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” ATLANTA, GA – September 21, 2010 – Chuck Donovan, Marine Corps veteran and Libertarian candidate for United States Senate from Georgia, issued a statement today during Senator John McCain’s continued filibuster of the repeal of the U.S. military's “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. “As a Marine, I swore to support and defend Constitutional protections for all Americans. I am disappointed by fellow veteran, Senator John McCain, who seems more focused on political gamesmanship during his challenging reelection campaign than on the primary question of effectively defending the United States. However, I am more disappointed by President Obama’s failure to provide strong leadership on this issue. The Commander-in-Chief has always held the power to take politics out of the military yet he has failed to properly assume control, instead relegating to the courts and the Congr...

2010-09-22 21:32:00 Chuck Donovan: The Only U.S. Senate Candidate in Georgia to Sign the "No Pork" Pledge ATLANTA, GA – September 21, 2010 – Chuck Donovan is now the only U.S. Senate candidate in Georgia to sign the No Pork Pledge. The No Pork Pledge is published by the Citizens Against Government Waste, a private, non-partisan, non-profit organization focused on eliminating waste and mismanagement in the government. Only one other candidate in Georgia is on record as having signed this pledge, and no other Senate candidate has signed it. Although there are strict limits stated in the pledge, Donovan felt the pledge is not strict enough. The original language stated he would not support a budget request that “Greatly exceeds” the previous years funding. Because of the huge spending increases in the past years, during Donovan’s first full term of office there will be no need for a Federal budget increase of any kind. Donovan crossed out the word “Greatl...

2010-09-21 04:35:00 LP Monday Message : Candidates , Campaigns , Polls , Fundraising posted by Staff on Sep 20, 2010 September 20, 2010 Dear Friend of Liberty, We have a great slate of over 800 Libertarian candidates for the upcoming November elections. Many of them are looking for more coverage on our website, in our emails, and in LP News. They want publicity, donations and help. That's a good thing. Unfortunately, there's just too much information about our candidates for us to convey directly. And even though there are probably a hundred candidates around the country who would be happy to email all Libertarians nationwide each week, we know that you might not appreciate getting that much unsolicited email. We have to rely on our state and local affiliates to provide announcements about the campaigns. I also encourage you to seek out candidates you might be interested in, and get more information. You can visit all 800 candidates listed here. Some of them have websites with email announcements ...
Johnny Isakson Receiving Campaign Support from Socialized Medicine Champion
2010-09-17 01:56:00 Johnny Isakson Receiving Campaign Support from Socialized Medicine Champion, Mitt Romney ATLANTA, GA – September 17, 2010 – It is interesting for the Donovan campaign to note that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney will be coming to Georgia to support Johnny Isakson’s bid to be reelected as U.S. Senator. Governor Romney pushed forward Massachusetts’ socialized medicine bill, better known as “Romney Care”. Health care insurance premiums are now rising faster in Massachusetts than in any other state. Following Romney Care enactment, the number of doctors and other medical providers in the state has significantly decreased. Many Massachusetts patients hoping to make a health care provider appointment face the longest waiting periods in the Nation. It isn’t rationing, but to people like Chuck Donovan’s parents, longtime residents in Massachusetts, it certainly feels like it. Chuck’s parents know better than to miss ap...
Libertarian Senate Candidate Receives Endorsement on C-SPAN
2010-09-15 21:42:00 Libertarian Senate Candidate Receives Endorsement on C-SPAN ATLANTA, GA – September 15, 2010 – Political activist Joe McCutchen yesterday made his endorsement for Chuck Donovan nationwide. Speaking on C-SPAN’s Greta Brawner segment, McCutchen reiterated his unconditional support for Donovan’s campaign for U.S. Senator in Georgia. “I supported Johnny Isakson because I thought he would be a taxpayer champion,” McCutchen said. “Instead he turned out to be a pork champion. On November 2nd, I’m voting for Chuck Donovan." This morning, McCutchen followed last night’s endorsement by speaking out in favor of Chuck’s candidacy on the Al Gainey Show, WDUN News Talk, AM 550, Gainsville, GA. McCutchen, a Donovan supporter for months, announced in his latest monthly newsletter his unconditional support for Chuck Donovan’s campaign for U.S. Senator in Georgia. “I have gotten to know Chuck well in the past few months, and I am confident he will put the interests of the ta... Libertarian U.S. Senate Candidate and Airline Pilot Makes Statement on Nint
2010-09-10 19:09:00 For Immediate Release Libertarian U.S. Senate Candidate and Airline Pilot Makes Statement on Ninth Anniversary of 9/11 ATLANTA, GA – September 11, 2010 – Chuck Donovan, candidate for U.S. Senator from the state of Georgia, issued the following statement on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001: “Like most Americans, I took the attacks of 9/11 very hard. As a professional pilot, I took them personally. We pilots had been trained with a plan to deal with hijackers; a plan we were told included team members outside of our cockpits. September 11, 2001 showed us we were disarmed and alone. “Nine years later, we Americans are more and more restricted from using the tools of self-defense. Far too often and in far too many ways, we find ourselves helplessly at the mercy of a government we cannot rely on. “The government’s reaction to 9/11 was to energetically use its’ two favorite tactics; expand power at the expense of our li...
Chuck Donovan’s First TV Commercial Takes Johnny Isakson to Task
2010-09-09 06:13:00 For Immediate Release Chuck Donovan’s First TV Commercial Takes Johnny Isakson to Task ATLANTA, GA – September 7, 2010 – The Donovan For Senate campaign announces the completion of its first TV commercial. The ad, which has been well received among test subjects, is planned to air on stations throughout Georgia over the next several weeks. The ad introduces Chuck Donovan to a wider audience, touching on issues critical to Georgia voters such as the national deficit and the stimulus packages. Donovan’s tone is hopeful, however, as he reminds voters that with the right leadership our best days are ahead. To maximize the ad’s exposure between now and Election Day, an additional fund raising drive has been initiated. Since the campaign is staffed by an all-volunteer, grassroots group of Georgians, all funds received during the drive will go directly to the cost of radio and television ads. Chuck Donovan has reached out to disenchanted voters...
Monday message from the Libertarian partyits all about the freedom
2010-09-07 01:08:00 September 6, 2010 Dear Friend of Liberty, It's hard to celebrate Labor Day when unemployment is 9.6 percent. Government interference is the single biggest cause of unemployment. Minimum wage laws, OSHA, ADA, etc., etc., make it difficult both to hire and to fire workers. (And when it's difficult to fire workers, it's much less likely that they will be hired in the first place.) To reduce unemployment, we need to start repealing laws! Section 2.7 of the Libertarian Party platform states: "We support repeal of all laws which impede the ability of any person to find employment. We oppose government-fostered forced retirement. We support the right of free persons to associate or not associate in labor unions, and an employer should have the right to recognize or refuse to recognize a union. We oppose government interference in bargaining, such as compulsory arbitration or imposing an obligation to bargain." I read today that President Obama wants another $50 billion in Keynesian... Bob Barr endorses Chuck Donovan for US Senate
2010-09-01 14:11:00 Chuck Donovan Receives Significant Endorsement from Bob Barr For immediate release ATLANTA, GA – August 16, 2010 – Former U.S. Congressman and 2008 Presidential candidate Bob Barr today announced his endorsement of Libertarian Chuck Donovan running for U.S. Senate . The Donovan for Senate campaign is proud to receive such an endorsement. Bob Barr is well known figure in third party politics ever since he left the Republican Party in 2006 to join the Libertarian Party. “Both our basic liberties and prosperity are increasingly at risk because of policies implemented by both of the two major monopoly parties.” said Barr. “Instead of giving us free markets, Washington puts taxpayers on the hook for bailouts. Instead of reforming crippling entitlements, Washington expands them.” “There is not only a budget deficit in Washington, but also a severe deficit of leadership, and unless we start electing people like Chuck Donovan, our Constitution and Bill of Rights will becom...

Monday message from the Libertarian party
2010-07-20 00:31:00 Dear Friend of Liberty, The Federal Election Commission is harassing and maybe even threatening to silence the Campaign for Liberty. This is an attack on free speech and an attack on another organization working to promote freedom. The Campaign for Liberty was founded by Congressman Ron Paul after his 2008 presidential campaign as a way to continue organizing the grass roots activists who helped that campaign. Although Congressman Ron Paul holds office as a Republican, he’s often ostracized by his party’s leadership for holding libertarian views. He’s also a Lifetime member of the Libertarian Party , and he was the 1988 Libertarian Party presidential nominee. I’m glad when Ron Paul is willing to ignore party allegiance to fight for principles of liberty. I personally don’t think our freedoms will be secure until government is seen as the problem, and a majority of Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians and others are fighting over the best and fastest ways to dismantle govern... In addition to adding another story for the Libertarian Party of Georgia history books, we also made Georgia history today, as gubernatorial candidate John Monds, the largest vote getter in the history of the Libertarian Party in his stellar showing in 2008's Public Service Commission (District 1) race, qualified to become the first African-American to appear on a General Election ballot for Governor in the state of Georgia. John was not the only one to leave his mark on Georgia history today, as Dr. Rhonda Martini became the first female candidate for Lieutenant Governor to appear on the General Election ballot. Today is the final day of a VERY busy month for the Libertarian Party of Georgia...
Libertarian party of New York needs help getting its candidates on the ball
2010-06-28 19:56:00 June 28, 2010 Dear Friend of Liberty, The Libertarian Party of New York needs our help getting its candidates on the ballot this year. Please make a generous donation today. The New York LP needs 15,000 valid signatures in a petition drive starting July 6 and ending August 17. That's just 6 weeks. While we expect many New Yorkers to volunteer and for the state party to spend most of their own funds on this drive, they simply cannot make this happen without financial help from the National Libertarian Party. The Libertarian National Committee (LNC) recently approved spending $25,000 to aid New York's petition drive. We haven't spent that money, but we've authorized it. Authorizing those funds was a very difficult decision for the LNC. Our resources are limited, and deciding how to fairly and optimally allocate funds is not easy. ... More About: Candidates
Libertarian National Convention
2010-06-02 17:02:00 Just got back from the national convention. I had a blast. I did get myself elected to th LNC. I was not sure if I would get elected or not. Some big guns were running for the at - large which made me think it would be hard to win at the region level. The one thing I did was buy some label stickers (4 inch round) and had everyone wear one that I knew was going to vote for me .It made a difference. I won the election . I actually believe one of our problems in the party is not knowing how to campaign. One of my goals is to get more campaign stuff into the hands of activist at a low cost or at a zero cost.I believe we should make t.v. commercial at the national level so the states can run them. I will say this again it only cost about 15.00$ to run an ad on CNN in Atlanta. We had our first LNC meeting on Monday. I was happy with how the meeting went. It was kind of neat to be seated beside Nolan and Ruwart. One day when our party takes off these are the are the type ... More About: National , Convention , Libertarian

2010-05-03 16:15:00 Tonight is the first night of the new Georgia ex. com. It is the first time in about two years that I have been on the ex. com. I am looking forward to it. Georgia has got some great candidates this year from top to bottom. We will be running the first African American for Governor ever in the state of Georgia. The Great thing was the party never talked about his color we talked about his love for freedom and liberty . I have also paid for my hotel for the St. Louis National Convention. Has any thought abpout who they are supporting for LNC chair. It looks like I am going with George Phillies . I supported him early for the 2008 presidential campaign until I got wrapped him in the Bob Barr campaign. If I had to do it over I would stick with George Phillies this time around. I did vote for Steve Kubby for vice. who of course lost to Wayne Root in the end. I hope to start posting a little more often. More About: Back

2009-03-25 13:56:00 March 24th, 2009 ATLANTA – John Monds will be announcing his intention to seek the Libertarian Party of Georgia’s nomination for Governor with a press conference at the Capitol in Atlanta with family, close friends and supporters by his side Wednesday, March 25th at 4:00pm. During his campaign for Public Service Commission (District 1) in 2008, Monds became the first Libertarian to break one million votes in the United States. Monds and the Libertarian Party believe Georgians are ready for something new and different. “It’s difficult to tell the difference between Republicans and Democrats; both want to raise your taxes, waste your money and increase the size and scope of state government,” said Monds. “We must be competitive in the 21st Century. We must have meaningful tax reforms that allow businesses and individuals to thrive, a transportation system that eases congestion without raising taxes, an education system that gives more choices and re...
